When Thorne McCafferty rushes home to the family ranch, he is thinking only about whether his sister Randi will survive the car wreck that has put her in the hospital. He never expects that Randi's E.R. doctor will be Nicole Stevenson.
Nicole has never forgotten the teenage passion she shared with Thorne… or the sting of his unexplained rejection. Now she's all grown up—but he still affects her in the very same way. Will they both be able to move beyond their pasts for a second chance at a happy ending?
Lisa Jackson is the number-one New York Times bestselling author of over ninety-five novels, including the Rick Bentz and Reuben Montoya Series, the Pescoli and Alvarez Series, the Savannah series, and numerous stand alone novels. She also is the co-author of One Last Breath, Last Girl Standing, and the Colony Series, written with her sister and bestselling author Nancy Bush, as well as the collaborative novels Sinister and Ominous, written with Nancy Bush and Rosalind Noonan. There are over thirty million copies of her novels in print and her writing has been translated into twenty languages.
Before she became a nationally bestselling author, she was a mother struggling to keep food on the table by writing novels, hoping against hope that someone would pay her for them. Today, neck deep in murder, her books appear on The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly national bestseller lists.
With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It was down to earth and real, while being hot and racy, and simultaneously hot and spicy. Jackson works a bit of everything into this brilliant tale that will capture your heart.
Jackson paints a brilliant picture of Montana, placing her amazing characters perfectly within its scope. A great deal happens in this story without becoming rushed or overdone. Jackson takes the time to expand on each element while ensuring that her readers remain engaged. She develops a seamless, complex, multi-faceted story that you’re sure to fall in love with.
This was a little slow and not as gripping as I expect from Lisa Jackson. The story was good just not great and the characters were okay but likely forgettable. I think once I read another part to the series I may feel more connected to the characters. At least I hope so.
These type of books are why I don't read romance novels. How so many women can read this drivel is beyond me. The adults (?) keep acting like they are 13 year olds. One is a doctor and the other a multi-millionaire. Yet they both moon around and act like children. Not to mention the aggressive way he treats her. Instead of kicking him in the privates she becomes a little puddle person and allows his horrible behavior. I kept reading to find out what happened to the sister only to find out that I would have to read the rest of the series to find out. No thanks!
Be sure to read the prologue and the epilog. They truly begin and end the story.
Thorne and Nicole's pasts, and their families, give depth and context to this story, as well as showing in depth who they are as individuals, all of which brought me to care for them and rejoice in their happy ending. I appreciated how believable the characters were. I also liked that two threads of the story were unresolved by the end, as happens in life.
I enjoyed this second chance, romance. I purchased this book at our local Goodwill store. I've given this story a 4.5* rating. This is not for the under 18 readers because of sexual content. There is some mystery in this romance and babies in the mix. Plenty going on to keep you turning the pages. Even had some tears on this one.
Love story & mystery that does not end. You have to read other books to find out who wants to kill the sister. I liked Nicole & Thorn’s story but I don’t know if I bought it. I liked the brothers Matt & Slade. Nicole’s kids were annoying. I don’t know if I’m curious enough to go on with this series? 🤔
It’s a good afternoon read. Setting on my front porch watch the leaves falling and a nice breeze,I read this book. I love a book that can take me away for a few hours, and this one did just that.
Nothing original here. Just read like so many other Romance novels. It was a real struggle to get through it for this year's reading challenge. If you want some light reading with steamy sex and some bit of mystery this is for you.
Romance and mystery intertwine in a lively dance that keeps things hopping. Past and present collide as accidents nearly kill 2 of the family and they find there maybe more to the story.
There's laughter, crying, romance, a little sex, mystery and anger. They were lovers years ago and now they are both back in town.....older, wiser, and still attracted. Highly recommend.
Jeez, did they have to keep talking out loud to themselves, so someone could “huh?” or “what did you say?” Too many inner thoughts are bad enough but when they’re saying them out loud it’s just silly. And going on a horseback ride date when it’s freezing outside in a SKIRT? Give me a break, and then Thorne has Nicole outside UNDRESSED and ready to have sex, didn't say anything about a blanket at any time so I'm assuming he just put her down on the cold dirty ground and went at it, AND he was still completely dressed. Wow, that is just too stupid. If you’re going to write a scene like that it should have been in the summer, not in blowing freezing weather.
Sorry, but this is a DNF for me. It could have been a good story but the author didn’t even bother to think of what she was doing. I wonder if she ever went out in the kind of weather she wrote about and got undressed and thought about having sex, or did she see how fast she could get dressed again. It’s ignorant for ANY author to write an outdoor sex scene when it’s freezing out.
As to the narrator: He kind of suck! No emotion, hardly any change when he did a woman’s voice. AND, believe it or not, his men’s voices sounded feminine sometimes. I can’t figure that out. I couldn’t recommend this narrator.
First book in the McCaffertys series. Random, their step sister, falls into labor just as an accident forces her into a coma. Her three brothers of another mother, yet a same father; Slade, Thorne, and Matt, struggle to juggle their lives and now the baby, they named J.R after their father John Randall.
Thorne falls fir the doctor, Nicole Stevenson, mother of twin girls, Mindy and Molly after a divorce from workaholic husband. After a plane crash that sends Throne to the hospital, he send dozens of roses for the proposal. Near death brought with to their senses, ever they once and for all allow hearts to lead their lives as she says yes. Yes to life with the man who broke her heart at seventeen.
I'm only halfway through the book right now but I've already checked thrice to see that the author isn't Nora Roberts. The book is a very light read. Frivolous and not having much of a story line and bare remnants of a mystery. The story line also doesn't really catch you and make you want to read. Nothing to hold your interest. So far it's a 1 star...
...The book now done, I can clearly say that my views have not changed one bit!! The thread of a mystery that we are to be following is still hanging unsolved and the book ended very abruptly. This mirage of a mystery is to be continued in the rest of the series, that is if anyone can stomach having to read the rest of the series!!!
This is the first book of a series of stories about the McCaffertys. Thorne is the oldest brother. His only sister has been involved in a car accident and he comes home to be at her side. When he gets to the hospital he finds and old flame is the ER doctor caring for his sister. Does he still love her? Does she still love him? What has happened with their lives since high school? What happens with his sister? Lots going on, good action and a to-be-continued part of the storyline.
Thorne and Nicole's story, the first in the series. The book was and easy read and entertaining. I give it 3 1/2 stars. What bothered my about the book was a horseback ride in the middle of winter that led to an outdoor love scene. All I could think when reading it was, "isn't she cold?" Silly I know but it still bothered me, the barn would have been warmer. Anyway, I did enjoy this story.
Not as good as I had thought it would be. It's part of a set and the mystery of Randi's (Thorne's sister) car accident is under investigation. I expected more out of Thorne as far as getting back with his old girlfriend, Nicole. It was an okay read. I won't reread it.
