She makes me want so much more...

Me: K. I'll marry you but no s3x.
CJ: Nice. Need 2 know 1 more thing.
Me: ?
CJ: Your name?
Me: Melanie Sanders.
CJ: Can call u Mel?
Me: No. It's Melanie.
CJ: K, Mel. C U tomorrow.

"Take off your shirt."
It comes off over his head and he smirks arrogantly when my mouth drops open. Sure, I've seen plenty of athletes but this guy is by far, the most ripped. Pressing my lips together, I grab a drink from my water bottle, and pretend not to notice. That gorgeous pack of abs is just damaged tissue, nothing more.

CJ
No longer New York's favorite quarterback, I'm in a jam. The car accident did far worse than mess up my knee, it ruined a sweet advertising deal. Now, there's only a few weeks to rehab my image along with my knee or kiss my career goodbye. That's when I overhear my far-too innocent physical therapist on the phone and offer up a win-win deal.

Note: Busted Play is a super-sexy, fast-moving sports romance and does not contain cliffhangers. HEA guaranteed.

Amazon Best Seller Stella Marie Alden loves Zumba, yoga, watercolor painting, and all genres of romances.

Her first book, ‘How to Train Your Knight’, won Romance Writers of America coveted Molly and Show me the Sparks Contests, and placed in four others.
Truly remarkable, considering she’s only been writing for three years.

Growing up in Vermont, she loved to make up stories. Crayons fought each other over size and placement in their cardboard box and imaginary friends crowded the house. Her brother often complained. “Tell her no one’s here, Mother.".

Her career paths have varied. She’s been a librarian, a classical clarinetist wanna-be, recording studio engineer, broadcast electronics repairman, and now she architects software programs.

She lives in Bergen County, NJ with her life-long hero and their two cats. Her two girls are grown but ever supportive. You go Mom!

A present-day Cinderella story!

I felt bad for Melanie. She had a very lousy hand dealt to her and I was really rooting for her to come out on top in the end.

CJ was really just a good guy caught up in the fame of being a professional athlete. I enjoyed seeing his good side come out more and more as the story progressed.

For me, the book felt rushed. Maybe a little more of how the characters' feelings got from Hate to Love and just more details in general.

All in all, this was a steamy, quick read from Stella with a very happy ending!

(I received a copy of this book in consideration of an honest review)

Good read. Very quick. Wish it wss a little longer and a little more in depth for the subject matter this book covers. I liked Melanie, CJ was a jerk but got better as the story went along. I am definitely going to read book 2.

3 and a half stars.
A quick read about a physical therapist that gets locked out of her (boyfriend of 4 years) apartment and is homeless now. The jerk won't even give her back her clothes. Her new client is a famous football player with a bad knee and a bad reputation. Fake marriage could help them both. Or not.
This is a fast and fun read, but does contain some facets of incest. Be warned if this topic bothers you. I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving an advanced readers copy.

Having second thoughts about this author
Lots of typos and other errors.
They are so bad they pull you out of the story.

Other problems I have with the stories. Kind of sluggish and boring.

Busted Play, was actually a good read and I know book 2 will be just as juicy. I love both of Melanie and CJ story.

**** SPOLIERS**************

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2018...

I liked how the story started off from Melanie getting put out by her bum of an ex. He was one cruel man. To actually do that to her, I was glad that CJ took her in to help her get herself together. But in the end they both fell in love with each other, they both help one another out in the end. Plus her being her physical therapist (he was definitely judgemental though once he first saw her, instead of actually getting to know her.) but heck they both were judgemental.

One thing I was glad of that she actually told CJ how her father abuses her, and no one else actually believes her, but a complete stranger actually did. Her family is in denial which sucks. I was glad that she found something in CJ and he in her. Like I said I cannot wait until I get a chance to read part two. I actually read a little of chapter one that was in book 1. Though I shouldn' have, because I really want to know what going to happen in the end, I already he's going to get Melanie back in the end.

Love, book 1 definitely will recommend it, it was one hilarious book.

This is the first book that I have read from this author, and I received a free advanced copy.

The story starts with Melanie having a really bad day. She comes home from work as a sports physical therapist, to find her boyfriend has not only changed the locks on the door, despite her having paid the rent since he has been out of work, but he will not only not let her in, but will not let her get her things. With nowhere else to go, she ends up at a women's shelter. She had fled from Iowa to NYC for a good reason, but we don't find out what that is until half way through the story.

Hotshot football player Chance was recently in an automobile accident, when he was not only injured, but finds out that the woman who came on to him was only 16 years old. So he needs to rehab not only his knee, but his reputation. He is not thrilled when he finds out that Melanie is his therapist, but after his first session, realizes that she is a miracle worker. When he finds out what happened to her, he makes a proposal: that they enter into a fake temporary marriage, so she has somewhere to live and he improves his reputation. She reluctantly agrees, with rules, but quickly wants to throw out the rules. Their chemistry is dynamic, so will they continue with their plan, or make the marriage real? Will they misunderstand the other's behavior, or open up to find love?

The characters are well developed, including the secondary ones and the conflicts are real. The author weaves a difficult issue into the story. The story ends with a HEA, but the first 2 Chapters of the next book in the series are included and instead of moving on to another couple, more roadblocks are placed in their path.

Real rating: zero stars. I made it 18% of the way through this book before throwing in the towel.

First off, the Americans speak like they are British. I was highly surprised to read the author herself is American. It came off as a British author writing about Americans while using British phrases. I honestly had to remind myself the characters where American through all of what I read.

Secondly, the Southern characters are so far fetched. They use the word “y’all” in reference to one person - it’s never singular. “Y’all” is plural (meaning more than one”. “All y’all” is in reference to a group. (Source: I’m Southern.) And North Carolinians do not have exaggerated Southern drawls - if she wanted exaggerated Southern drawls pick Mississippi or Georgia. This was ultimately the reason I threw in the towel aside from the constant never evolving of the story.

CJ and Melanie hook up just to accuse the other of cheating or some other outlandish made up theory just to repeat the cycle. It was tiresome and exasperating. Won’t be finishing this book - ever, or giving the author another shot.

I never know what to expect with new authors and novellas. Well I can tell you, Stella Marie Alden nails the novella with Busted Play. Great, well developed characters and a wonderful storyline all packed into a short listen. We meet Melanie as her boyfriend locks her out of her apartment. Now homeless with none of her belongings, she clings onto her job as a physical therapist to vault her into a good reputation, and as a result a good financial position. She just has to keep the most current client, CJ. A famous, cocky football player, this man has some issues. And between what he has overheard Melanie talking about and his own, he thinks he may have the solution. Will they both benefit from his offer? These two are complex, yet easy to get to know. It's quick, instalove, sexy and has some relevant issues that happen far too often in today's society. Alden writes with compassion and love.

This is my first listen by Jonathan Waters, and I really enjoyed his narration. He has a great voice, easy to distinguish between characters and has a great pace. He tunes into CJ and Melanie, gives them all the feels and lets us enjoy their heat as well as their turmoil. A great performance.

Ever have one of those days? You come home and find yourself locked out and your boyfriend has someone else taking your place? This is Melanie's life...no clothes...no computer. What's a girl to do? Melanie is a physical therapist. Her new client, CJ Dowell, football's bad boy, is in need of PR-adjustment after being caught with a 16-year-old girl. CJ comes up with a plan...Melanie will move in with him and they will pretend to get married. Melanie agrees but plans to reimburse CJ for everything he spends. Both agree to not fall in love, but Cupid has other ideas. Family is important, but Melanie's family has the taint of sexual abuse.

The underlying theme is lies. Melanie has told lies all her life in order to survive and realizes that she loves CJ too much to continue the lie.

I liked this book. You could really put yourself in this situation and ask yourself, "What would you do?"

WOW! Bing read in one go!

To say I couldn't put the book down is an understatement. I really found The Bushwick Series first and then got slightly co fused at the reading order as Amazon has it numbered differently compared to the Author.
I absolutely loved Mel and CJ. I like how all of the stories in this book hit the ground running and you don't stop until all characters stories have played out.
I found Grayson a bit naive in this book. For a guy who runs an innovative Security Tech firm he was quite naive about his personal safety and seriously lax in protecting him and his family. I'm sure any Billionaire who's life is threatened would have full security and protection. Never mind changing passwords to stop a company thief getting access again.
Ok, rant over. I seriously loved this series. I'm off to catch up on any others I've missed. X
Can't recommend this series enough!

(audiobook+ebook) I wasn’t expecting much, but I found more depth than I thought. A tough subject is touched upon, and it is treated with respect, with an interesting approach to what a third party could do in this situation.

It was short, so the story progresses very fast. Hence I didn’t really get the chemistry between the characters. There also wasn’t much sport in this sport romance. It revolved mostly around PR stuff.

Though the narrator wasn’t exactly bad, his voice did nothing for me. I’ll try other books by this author, but I’ll probably read them instead.

Quickie

- Series: Players #1 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #sport romance #fake relationship
- Triggers: depiction of incest and parental abuse
- Main couple: Melanie Sanders & CJ Quinn
- Hotness: 3/5
- Romance: 3/5
- + a short pleasant read
- – terrible female voice though

This was a well written novella (short story)with a strong plot and good characters. The book was fast paced, heartwarming and full of emotion. Poor Melanie had been through a lot with her ex and was trying to get back on her feet. CJ was a professional athlete who was injured in an accident and Melanie ends up being his physical therapist. She's offended when he offers her money to help get herself back on her feet. Things start getting a little steamy and their chemistry is off the charts. A fake wedding, growing feelings and lots of surprises. No spoiler here but there's no cliffhanger and that is good. Loved the way Stella ended the book. I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review the book.

Wow. I really liked this book. I really felt for Melanie. She had been a real shitty hand in life, thanks to her parents and he recently ex-boyfriend, Des. The slim bag!
CJ is a professional football player and he maybe a but of a player but I thinks he's just caught up in the fame of it all. He rescues Melanie from a life homelessness and she's greatful but their plan, it's getting to be to much after she goes back home. And everything comes to light when she tell CJ what happened all those years ago. But by then he's fallen deep.
I loved this story and couldn't put it down. When I read an excerpt for the next book, I knew I had to read it See what happened next.

Great story

After reading 2 books by this author which includes cj and Mel i had to go back to the beginning of the player series to find out their story and I wasn't disappointed . Cj need therapy after a car accident when need injure his knee Mel is the girl he goes to. After listening in on a phone call he discovers her bf has kicked her out of their apartment and left her homeless. To solve both their problems he suggested a fake marriage . After visiting her family he finds out why she didn't want to talk about them . He wants to help her but she thinks he no longer wants her now he knows the truth . Great story can't wait to continue with books 2 & 3

The story was novella length, so some aspects of CJ and Melanie’s tale felt rushed. I thought it ended very abruptly until I read the excerpt for the next book in the series, this is a HFN scenario and not the end of their story. Overall, I thought the plot moved along and the author provided a visible attraction and chemistry between the main characters. On my version of the kindle download, the last 5 or 6 pages are repeated, but I didn’t think that warranted lowering my overall score for this book. I found the story engaging and I’m invested in seeing Melanie heal and CJ and her get their HEA.

I like this short but enjoyable read. It made my laugh, sigh and wish for the couple. It is well written and has a lot of drama and passion in it. The chemistry is amazing and the hot scenes are steaming. I like the main characters and their way of trying to survive and get out of their trouble. They are such a cute couple. Melanie has not had much luck when it comes to boyfriends and CJ has been injured and needs to get up and out on the field again.

I can only recommend this short humoristic and amazing romance.

The perfect plan to help them both

When CJ gets injured in a car accident he has damaged more than his knee, he may as well have committed career suicide
Mel is a physical therapist in charge of CJ's treatment. She is going through some serious relationship BS with her boyfriend cheating on her and locking her out of their shared apartment.
To solve both their problems they decide to get fake married! But will they be able to do it without being intimate? And without any feelings involved?

Interesting read

This author is new to me. I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book, but it certainly wasn't what I got! Dealing with incest is always a difficult and sensitive topic and I wasnt sure if I wanted to carry on reading g when I found this out. However I did as I had to see the characters have a happy ending. The subject was dealt with sensitively without going into too much detail. I see there is another book in this series which should be interesting to read as a follow up to Melanies growth and hopefully closure .

Loved this series

So many love stories, and intertwining them, based on something that unfortunately happens every day. Even though it's a heart wrenching subject, you brought it to life. Everyone impacted will hopefully get help.

I do have to say that Izzy and Gray's story was my favorite. All the challenges. Her feisty attitude. His "never give up" attitude. The I connection.

Mel and CJ have an awesome connection, and she's not afraid to call him out either. Love that.

Ohmigod...What a kickass series!!

I’d read all the books separately as they were released and loved each and every one of them. This past weekend I was reading one of Ms Alden’s new books, Misconduct, and decided to read the whole Busted Play series in one fell swoop. It was totally amazing!! The storylines grab you from the git go; the characters are totally amazing; the plot twists and turns are off the charts; and reaching the HEA is one helluva ride! You need to grab this set today! ❤️❤️

I voluntarily read a copy of this book for review. This was a great short story, full of detail and a lot happens in a small amount of time! It's amazing how such a heartwarming, yet steamy read could unfold in a novella. I could have read more about the characters, but the story was well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it very much. Laugher, hot and steamy scenes, love gone wrong, starting over, finding new love and friendship all happens here. Don't miss this great sports read!!

Sometimes exes absolutely suck. Especially when they lock you out and steal all your belongings. Melanie got the short end of the stick in that relationship. When she gets the injured CJ as a patient, he's a curse and a blessing in disguise. He wasn't the nicest guy to be around, but he gradually got me to like him. A little drama, but a lot of sweet heat in Busted Play. It was a good novella, just right for a quick book to read. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

She is his physical therapist whose ex has almost destroyed her life. He is in trouble with his accident and can use her to sweeten his million dollar deal without the media finding something bad. He just wanted to give her money to start with to help and she thinks he is buying sex. Well here she comes up with the idea of marriage. Very well written and exciting read. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.

I purchased Busted Play by Stella Marie Alden and this review is given freely.
This short story features football player CJ Quinn and Physical Therapist Melanie. Child abuse and a broken romance lead Melanie into homelessness and a marriage scheme which CJ accepts to improve his image. Melanie's getting help and CJ's change to the role of a steadfast and caring man make this an interesting quick read.

Good read. I got the first three chapters for free and wanted to know how it ends. So I wanted to buy the book. Attention though, there are 3 books of this couple. When I wanted to buy the book there was the choice of buying one book or a 6 book package. It just didn't say anywhere that only the first 3 books are of this series and actually also be read singularly. The rest is bonus. If I had known I would only have bought the first book!!

If you're a fan of quick, well-written, fast-paced and steamy fake marriage romance stories with a great storyline, well-developed characters, some drama, lies, off-the-charts chemistry, hot scenes, love and a HEA, then you need to read Busted Play by Stella Marie Alden. NOTE: This book deals with the subject of incest; if this is a trigger for you please be warned.

Fantastic

This author is absolutely brilliant. This series covers touchy and painful subjects cleverly interwoven within the twilight beginnings of love. You'll find yourself either fuming over the craziest things, laughing about such idiocy, crying over shared pain, and the awesomeness of believing in answered prayers. Faith? Is there such a thing? Oh yeah read and perhaps you'll become a believer...A deep abiding Love.
