Demon Assassins #1

Witch’s Bounty

Rate this book
One of only three remaining demon-stalking witches, Colleen is almost the last of her kind. Along with her familiar, a changeling spirit, she was hoping for a few months of quiet, running a small magicians’ supply store in Fairbanks, Alaska. Peace isn’t in the cards, though. Demons are raising hell in Seattle. She’s on her way out the door to help, when a Sidhe shows up and demands she accompany him to northern England to quell a demon uprising there.

Duncan swallowed uneasy feelings when the Sidhe foisted demon containment off onto the witches two hundred years before. He’s annoyed when the Sidhe leader sends him to haul a witch across the Atlantic to bail them out. Until he sees the witch in question. Colleen is unquestionably the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on. Strong and gutsy, too. When she refuses to come with him, because she’s needed in Seattle, he immediately offers his assistance. Anything to remain in her presence.

Colleen can’t believe how gorgeous the Sidhe is, but she doesn’t have time for such nonsense. She, Jenna, and Roz are the only hedge Earth has against being overrun by Hell’s minions. Even with help from a powerful magic wielder like Duncan, the odds aren’t good and the demons know it. Sensing victory is within their grasp, they close in for the kill.

This was a refreshing change of pace for me; I haven't read many paranormal books about witches but I really enjoyed this one!
The paranormal "creatures" involved in this story are witches, Sidhe fey, demons, changelings (new to me, but I adored Bubba!) and Unseelie fey. The characters were great, particularly the three main witches, Colleen, Jenna and Roz. They are kick-ass demon-hunter warriors and with attitude and sarcasm in spades. The hero of the story is Duncan, he's a Lord of the Sidhe race, I wouldn't say he's overly Alpha but he's definitely a rather swoon-worthy gent, very dashing and chivalrous.
The pace of the book is quite fast-moving with plenty of action to keep you engaged, the only thing that could have made this book even better for me would have been if there was more build up in the relationship between Colleen and Duncan.
I really enjoyed reading this and would recommend it to fans of paranormal with a side of erotica.

My Rating: ★★★★
VERY GOOD: The characteristics of a 4 star book include: a great story; I loved the characters; and there was an interesting plot and unique story elements; there may have been a few odd things kept the story from being amazing. I would read it again and I would recommend it to a friend.
Witch’s Bounty is probably a book that I would not have picked up on my own. Not because of any fault of the authors because I actually enjoy her writing very much. No, my aversion to the book stems from my general ambivalence with witch's as a book theme. However, I'm really glad that I gave this book a good read because it wasn't what one would typically think of when they think of "witch". Sure, there was a magical element to the story because it incorporated a good deal of myth and folklore -- all of which I really enjoy as a whole. So, those aspects of the book made up for its "witchiness". But Gimpel did an outstanding job incorporating so many different elements together in the story and they just worked!

I loved the almost Romeo and Juliet feel of Duncan and Colleen's relationship. By all accounts, they should have never been together because of their respective lineage. Duncan and Colleen who should have been enemies or, at the least, tenuous allies, worked together to quell a demon uprising. With each deadly encounter, the couple's desire, passion, and connection strengthened.

Although this book ended on a happy for now for the couple, the challenges facing Colleen and her witch sisters Roz and Jenna continue. And speaking of Roz and Jenna (who I hope will also be getting a story soon), they add a wonderful depth to the story along with Colleen's familiar Bubba. The troop has faced many battles with evil but as the demons grow in strength, their individual and collective resilience will be tested. Witch’s Bounty delivers a potent combination of intrigue, action, passion, and mythology. An outstanding fiction cornucopia :).

I was lucky enough to discover this authors work last year and heartily recommend her books. Filled with romance, suspense and action they invariably feature a strong heroine and this book is no exception. Colleen is a witch but she's so much more than that as she is also one of three surviving demon hunting witches. Cursed by the Fae to hunt and trap demons and save the human world. Demon activity has started to escalate and Colleen is about to undertake a journey to meet up with her friend when a Sidhe turns up asking for her help. Duncan the Sidhe warrior is immediately struck by the bewitching Colleen and realises that the only way forward is for them to work together. Colleen knows little of the truth behind her demon hunting heritage but it's clear that Duncan has the answers she needs.
Duncan really needs Colleen to follow him back to England but agrees to help her with her current mission in Seattle even though he knows the witches don't really trust him. Upon arriving they are immediately confronted by animosity and distrust but it's clear that Colleen is happy to stand at Duncan's side . Can Duncan convince Colleen to travel back home with him or is her place with her Coven? The demon activity has to be stopped but the source of it is about to turn Colleens world upside down . The witches have good reason not to trust any Sidhe and this could well be their last stand .
This is a much shorter book than I usually like but as usual from this author the writing and story building just pulled me in. Colleen and her fellow witches Jenna and Roz are sharp and believable characters that suffer so much in order to preserve a balance. These are strong determined women who realise that every day could be their last and are prepared to grab at happiness . Life is for living and I applaud Colleens ability to accept Duncan into her heart so readily. As for Duncan he's over a thousand years old and knows what he wants and goes for it. Duncan may not be the chest beating alpha that some books offer but he's prepared to stand up to his own peers and Queen if that's what it takes .Whilst there was very little sexual tension and build up to the romance I do think it works in this story but I personally missed the chase that some books offer.
This is a story that moves quickly and engages the readers attention. It's more than just romance though as humour is interjected in the person of a very amusing Changeling called Bubba! I adore the use of Celtic legends intertwined with this modern day setting and the forbidden love aspect just added to the fun. If you fancy reading an action packed sexy paranormal with a noble hero and a strong heroine then this could fit the bill. I sincerely hope that Roz and Jenna get their own books and there's one particular Sidhe that tantalised me, oh and I'd like to see much more from the Unseelie court as the author teased with a brief glimpse of their powers.
A passionate action packed story!

Ok, so this is a very interesting story of not only how witches were created but how they work and function, and that there are different types. Back in the day, there were all different kind of supernatural creatures, including witches and Sidhe, among other things, but let’s just say that the Sidhe decided to throw the witches under the bus so they didn’t have to get their hands dirty. And this story shows you just how rough it has gotten. one Sidhe meets some witches and some big changes come about :)

Let’s start with our witches, Colleen specifically. Colleen is a demon stalker witch, and this means she literally catches bad demons and carts them back to hell. She’s strong willed, she’s determined, brave, and quite bad ass in my opinion. Plus she has the coolest Changeling familiar, named Bubba. That’s just SO COOL!!! She may not have a whole lot of big magic, but her magic is still something to be nervous about AND she has her demon carting powers and fighting skills and that alone scares me. And when she meets Duncan, she’s furious with him and his kind, but he also grows on her as he continues to stand by her side. And with Roz and Jenna being the only other two demon stalking witches left, their kind is very important and she’s very protective of them!

Duncan is just damn pretty LOL He is. He’s powerful and he’s a Sidhe royal, but he’s willing to give it up to help Colleen and her sisters, but mainly Colleen. I think his character grows the most, because he started out being annoyed having to answer questions, you know normal ones like “who are you” and “why are you here”. He’s never been turned down or questions, or not revered even, so him being at the bottom of the totem pole was a whole new kind of reality for him. Plus, he’s got some serious feelings for Colleen and you know what they say, Love makes you do stupid things :)

Overall, I loved the story, because it’s not just a great plot, or wonderful characters, but the history that these characters were built on was fascinating. There’s a whole fresh look at how supernaturals came to be and what they were made for. And the plot is excellent. The side characters were wonderful. Wait til you meet Bubba, Roz, and Jenna. And there’s something cool about the good guys winning, even if it means they have to keep going into battle, the demons need to not be baddies LOL so 5 WITCHY GOOD PAWS from me :)

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Witch's Bounty is a fast-paced, fun adventure featuring demon fighting witches, an adorable changeling, and a sexy as sin Sidhe. There's never a dull moment in this story as Colleen and her friends race against time to stop powerful demons from destroying everything in their path.

I love Colleen, Jenna, and Roz. They are sassy, strong heroines who take their responsibility as demon-stalkers very seriously. The interaction between the three is witty, really they act more like sisters than friends. I was somewhat surprised when Colleen fell so hard, so fast for Duncan. But he is Sidhe, so I guess that would make him very hard to resist. Besides, if every day might be your last, why not throw yourself into an insta-love relationship?

Duncan was almost too good to be true. I kept waiting for the catch, for him to show his true colors. But it appears he really is that much of a hero. He's so in love with Colleen he'd do anything for her, including giving up immortality. But he's a millenium or so old-- maybe immortality means less after living for so long. This guy is every woman's dream come true: sweet, sexy, strong, caring... the list goes on.

I adored the changeling, Bubba. I think he may just be the best character in the book. Like I said earlier, the story reads lightning fast. It's a fun story full of battles. Every time I expected a snag, things still went rather smoothly for our heroes. It makes for a light, enjoyable time.

I absolutely, positively loved this book! Ann Gimpel is now on my favorite author list. This book is full of magic, adventure and romance. Colleen is one of the last demon stalking witches who just wants some peace and quiet. That is not happening as Irichna demons are killing witches. Duncan, a Sidhe, has come to bring Colleen to England to contain a demon causing problems there. Colleen is a strong and clever woman whom I enjoyed reading enormously. She is feisty and stubborn, a wonderful character. Duncan is a Sidhe who has mixed feelings about his people's past actions toward many of the magical beings. I couldn't help buy feel for him as he has literally no idea about what the demon stalking witches have faced over the centuries. Duncan and Colleen attempt to work together to save the world from being overrun by Hell's minions as well as fight an attraction that could only end in heartbreak (so they believe). I am so looking forward to more stories in this world of magic and fantasy as this story was so very well written that it left me wanting more.

Full review/Цялото ревю - Click, click :)

The attraction between our main characters was evident from the very beginning and I began to wonder if I was going to like it, as I am not a huge fan of "alfa-males", "primal instincts" and so on.
Oh, how I was wrong!
I just loved, loved Duncan! I loved how he can be so dangerously sexy in one moment and cute in the next, how adorably old-fashioned and gentlemanly he turned to be. In this, Colleen was his perfect counterpart. I could imagine her so clearly, going "Whoa, whoa, wait a minute lover boy!" XD They formed a great couple.
Jenna and Roz were very strong characters too. They weren't just supportive figures for Colleen, but stand for themselves in the story. Such an amazing trio of temperament, skilled - and very tall - witches! Their powers and they way they dealt with the demons were a nice surprize to me. How they got their Irichna stalking powers sounded a bit weird... I just can't imagine some Sidhe few centuries ago discussing DNA and "genetics" But it all fit well, and didn't bother me much, and the battles were sure impressive.
Two more characters that need mentioning - well Bubba of course! May I say, just like the witches from the Coven - "I want one too!" . I knew I was going to like him from the moment I read the word "familiar", but this joyful and loyal creature went beyound my expectations. Love!
And one more thing - Titania. I couldn't help but like her. The Queen cooking? Full of win.
Things I didn't like that much - but still were not a big deal and didn't ruin at all my pleasure from the book:
Spell names sounded just a bit silly.... I don't know, I was expecting something more... magical and witchy than a "forget me spell". Also, usually I am a HUGE fan of big and wrapped up happy endings - but here everything ended up so nicely and easily, it seemes almost unnatural - changelings are free, the Sidhe admitted their fault towards the witches, Titania gave her blessings, even Roz and Jenna had their eyes on some cute Sidhe. As I see that the book is noted as volume one from a series, it wouldn't have hurt to let some story lines to go on a slower pace.
Then again, I am DYING to see more of Roz and Ronin... Ooh, those two would be a must read!:D

To wrap things up, I fully enjoed this book. It was sweet and full with action and sexy in the same time, mixing mythology and supernatural in a way I truly appreciated; with great characters, nice touch of humour and very well written. A captivating and fast read that left me longing for more. I would def reccomend to fellow readers who enjoy paranormal romance.

SUPER FAST REVIEW:
This book is one I have very mixed thoughts on.
The story is pretty interesting, especially the world building and fantasy stuff. The romance is pretty interesting too. The ending is interesting.
The characters... didn’t care. I would have appreciated better dialogue. This also really needed more action for the first book in a series called Demon Assassins... hell I can’t even remember if there were any real demony-assassiny action scenes.
Though speaking of “action” that’s where some mixed thoughts are. The sex scenes. On one hand they are well written in terms of both emotion and sexiness. On the other hand, it got to the point where it seemed like the author just added them as frequently as possible. By the end it was like I should be turned on but instead am like “Okay, they’re fucking again, move on.”
Overall nothing great, wouldn’t particularly recommend but it’s not bad. The ending and fantasy world are interesting enough to encourage me to add the next in the series to my reading list but it won’t be high priority.

Another new and interesting series from Ann Gimpel and how she does this boggles my mind. Each series is a complete world with complex and entertaining characters as well as detailed plots and intrigue that engages the reader into and through the book and leaves them satisfied with the current book while anticipating the next book.

It is a talent and a skill very few authors have and Ann continues to use hers for good and the benefit of readers everywhere.

Witch's Bounty made for a fun and interesting read. The world created by the author was good, but there were not much details regarding them. There were witches, Sidhes, faes, gnomes/changelings. It was a short and sweet read and the one thing I had any problem with was the insta-love between Colleen and Duncan.

Colleen, Jenna and Roz are the only three demon-hunting witches left alive. When there is a sudden surge in powers of the Irichna demons, it is upto them to send them back to the last circle. The witches and the Sidhes don't have a pleasant relationship, so when Duncan comes asking for their help, the witches are not very receptive.

Duncan is in Fairbanks, Alaska to take Colleen and her friends with him back to northern England to quell the demon uprising there, but the moment he sets eyes on her he is taken aback. She is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen and he wants her. Her indifference and hostility was not surprising considering how the Sidhe Council turned their backs on the witches when they asked for help.

Colleen is struck by how gorgeous Duncan is. But she doesn't have time for a roll in the hay. There are demon uprisings in Seattle she has to take care of. Along with her familiar Bubba, her friend Jenna and Duncan, they leave to take care of the out of hand situation.

It was well written and the characterization was good too. The fight scenes were well written and so was the scene in which Collen along with Bubba and Duncan takes the Irichna demon to the last circle of hell.

The insta-love aspect of the book did not sit well with me in the beginning. But Collen and Duncan's relationship seemed like it was years old. As if they were together for a long time. Their understanding of each other was quite surprising given they only knew each other for a matter of days. I loved how they were together affectionate, and caring and a bit wicked at times.

I love the banter between Collen, Jenna and Roz. Their camaraderie reminded me of the kind of relationship I share with my best friends. The teasing and leg-pulling, even standing up for each other and fighting together. I loved their relationship.

The most adorable and lovable character was without a doubt Bubba. He was loyal, fierce, and like a child. He loved Collen and her friends and would have done anything for them. He is also quite passionate when it comes to his kin and how they were mistreated by the Sidhe. He sure knows how to throw a tantrum, but you can't help but love him.

Overall a great book with great characters. I'm looking forward to
Jenna and Roz's books. They were real fun characters too. All three girls were kick-ass, short-tempered, independent and just plain fun. Good job by Ann Gimpel. I'll be sure to read more of her works.

Colleen is one of the last few true witches they are special and unique you see they hunt the Irichna demons who plague the earth she and her sister are the last of their kind when one day a man come into their shop is is unlike any other man because he is fey
Duncan is a sidhe prince who needs help to defeat the Irichna demons who are destroying his home so he goes into colleen and her sisters store and asks her for her help when she refuse he asks why and she tells him when her grandmother went and asked the fey to help them they were in dier need of this help they were ignored and left to fight the demons on their own when Duncan find this out he is surprised to deny the help of the witches who ask for help was to go against an ancient treaty that says they are to help when needed he become shocked and angered that such a thing would happen he asks who her grandmother asked colleen had no answer because the request was so blatantly ignored it killed almost all of the demon hunter witches after finding this all out he asks for their help on their quest to rid the fey realms of the Irichna demons Duncan falls for colleen
Will colleen return Duncans love? Who ignore the witches’ plea that resulted in the destruction of the demon hunter witches? Will colleen and Duncan have a happy ending? To find the answer to these questions I strongly suggest you buy this book its fantastic I loved the adventure and love story in this book it was amazing 5 gold stars

I have yet to meet an Ann Gimpel book I haven't loved. Witch's Bounty is no exception. Colleen, the heroine, is a witch with a twist. She (along with two friends) are the last in a line of magic-casters who can lead the Irichna to hell. When she meets Duncan, her life takes a swift U-turn. Called upon to fight the Irichna by Dunan, a Sidhe, she is predisposed to not trust him. The Sidhe are responsible for giving her and her friends the special demon ability. But love always finds a way. Colleen quickly realizes Duncan is the one.

And what a hunk! Duncan, like all of Ann's alpha heroes, is larger than life. A Sidhe with man-like characteristics and courage to spare, he'll stop at nothing to make Colleen his. The sex is hotter than Hades and the tale keeps you guessing what'll happen next. Toss in Roz and Bubba, two minor characters who also stole my heart, there is much to recommend this to fans of romance and fantasy alike.

I'm a paranormal romance fan, but Ann's fresh, distinctive voice brings new life to a sometimes tired genre. If you want a book that will keep you up reading long into the night (trust me, I know!), grab a copy of Witch's Bounty!

Hmmmm... A very interesting story. It took a few to get all the history and characters in line and focus. Then it all fell together. An enchanting story of witches, demons and other magical creatures.

It also is a survival story, which also turns into a love story. It was a well written and intriguing. It held onto you. Wondering what was going to happen next.

It is full of twists and turns. The story does not give itself away. In the I mean, you cannot figure out what was going to happen.

I enjoyed the love, and sexual tension between the two moan characters. It was steamy hot. Can they make their love work? Is it meant to be??

A very, very, good read.
Enjoy <3 Kimberly

Ann Gimpel did a wonderful job creating this world. It had creatures I recognized from other paranormal books and some I hadn't read about before but know are in other books of this type. The love story/life mates are the type of stories I love and what got me really into paranormal romance. Its easy to follow though some things needed a bit more explaining like more o n how demon stalking witches came to be. I liked the plot line and the writing style. Characters were well written and had depth. I recommend getting this book if you enjoy paranormal romance.

I'm a lover of fantasy, so I was excited to get this book. The trio of witches, Jenna, Colleen, and Roz, who are sisters, make up a terrific, bickering threesome.

Duncan is quite a hot hunk, who wins over Colleen's heart. Their love scenes are well done and quite steamy. Make no mistake, parts of this book could fall into erotica.

In reading this book, it seemed to me that the fantasy story could be multi-layered. Aside from a twist involving the head of the witches, this plot is mainly to banish the demons, called the Irichna, to behind the gates of hell. As such, where there are great battle scenes in this book, I didn't feel I was caught up in a world of fantasy that makes me want to stay and meander, to explore the relationships between the various creatures of fantasy in this book. This author loves writing romance, and it shows. This is great, and if the fantasy could be as complex as the romance, then this would be a barn-burner for me.

For those who love a great romance story in a paranormal or urban fantasy setting, this book is definitely for them.

Have I mentioned how much I love Ann"Gimpel?! She truly is an amazing author. I've yet to read a book by her that I haven't absolutely LOVED! And I'd never be able to pick out a favorite. Seriously why aren't you a fan yet?! She really is a master story teller, bringing her characters and their world's to life. You'll love Colleen (and her familiar) and Duncan's story. I know you'll enjoy it as much as I did. So get to reading.

I'm leaving this review of my own free will. In no way, have I been bribed, coerced or paid for this review.

Just right when I think this author can not do it again she lasso's me in with her blend of writing. The mix of paranormal, drama and romance slowly and at times quickly wrap around you with refreshing characters. In this one Colleen is the one who kicks it off with picking my interest. Being different she is with things start popping. Oh boy that settles it I was in for the long or short haul. Also of the male who was easy on the eyes and involved in this one is Duncan who has his own brand of interesting too. The excitement and adventure in this one will be over the edge with us right there along the way. She though by the way is not the only one there are two others-Jenna and Roz will have more of theirs later too.

I really enjoyed this book. It focuses on the last 3 remaining demon-stalking witches, a changeling, and of course the gorgeous Sidhe (you can’t have a great paranormal romance without one!). However the demons are getting stronger as well as increasing in numbers so the witches task is not as simple as they first believed it would be. I loved the variety of different magical & fantasy creatures/races/critters. The romance part of the story is perfect!! I love it when the heroes & heroines get together and STAY together! There are also some really hilarious one-liners as well as a nice sense of humor throughout. All in all, I liked the mix of magic, romance, humor, adventure, variety and uniqueness – it makes for a fantastically refreshing paranormal read. Ann has done a wonderful job taking a witch story and creatively making it her own! I have read a few witch books in my time, but this one stands out as the best one! (I am having a hard time explaining why I loved this book so much as I don’t want give anything away!!! I am trying to leave out the spoilers or ruin the “surprises”! I find that these parts are what helps to make this a great book in what I am hoping will be an equally great series.)

In Witch’s Bounty we meet the last three demon stalking witches, Collen, Jenna and Roz. They are the only ones that have the power to send the Irichna Demons back to Hell.
There are several race human, Dark Fae, Sidhe, Druids, Witches, Human, Shifters, Demons, Gods, Goddess and Changelings. Each race thinks they are superior to others and don’t want to mix blood, so the bloodlines won’t be weakened.
So, when Duncan, a Sidhe, shows up on Collen’s doorstep she is not inclined to listen to his plea for help. He decides to help Collen so she would in return help him.
From that moment on, their action with lots of fighting, abuse of power, teleporting, shape shifting, trips to Hell and back, romance with sexual tension and lots of whiskey.

Witch’s Bounty is a paranormal romance. It was just an okay read for me. I felt that some things could have been fleshed out more. It was really heavy on the romance for me. Overall it was what it was an okay book.

I loved this story. Colleen is a kick ass demon stalking witch. Duncan is a hottie Sidhe trying to right a wrong done centuries ago. Loved that the author made Colleen such a strong character, and that she didn't need to have Duncan rescue her nonstop. Roz and Jenna (Colleens fellow demon stalkers) are just as fun and outspoken as Colleen. Add in Bubba, who is Colleens changling, and you've got the perfect combination of friendship and loyalty I would highly recommend this to anyone whos looking for a dark paranormal romance with forbidden love, deceit, and friendship at its best.

My first foray into Ann Gimpel’s books was via audio book. The narrator, Hollie Jackson, is fantastic and brings all three books to life! Witches Bounty, Witches Bane and Witches Rule are action packed and tough to put down, while still feeding my romantic heart.

Witch’s Bounty

Wow! What in introduction to Ann Gimpel’s books. I had trouble turning these books off. Stories of the last three demon assassin Witches (Colleen, Jenna and Roz), a changeling, Sidhe, Unseelie and demons make this a fantastic listen or read. I loved this was set partially in Alaska! Colleen, along with her familiar, a changeling spirit, she was hoping for a few months of quiet, running a small magicians’ supply store in Fairbanks, Alaska. No such luck, peace isn’t in the cards. Demons are raising hell in Seattle. Colleen, Roz and Jenna set out to kick demon ass with the assistance of Duncan, a Sidhe. Even with help from a powerful magic wielder like Duncan, the odds aren’t good and the demons know it.

Witch’s Bane

Book Two – Witch’s Bane, starts with Colleen’s wedding, lots of fae and witches in attendance, the demons and their friends got dissed. No invites for them making them more than a little displeased. This is Roz’s story, she’s been burned by love before but Ronin, the head of the Sidhe may change all that. If he can handle independent Roz and tone down his overbearing tendency’s. In the end they must work together, if they are to be victorious over the demons they battle. I was happy to see Roz get a chance at love, she seemed so lonely in the first book.

Witches Rule

Witches Rule is the third book of the series. We followed Colleen’s story in the first book and Roz’s in the second and in Witches Rule it’s Jenna’s turn. Jenna’s always the one to get it wrong. On the heels of Roz’s and Colleen’s weddings, Jenna is headed for the U.K. when a demon confronts her. Any other witch could teleport out of the plane, but not her, making her more than a little frustrated. But the secret she discovers makes her more than she ever thought she could be. Attraction for Jenna comes in two, first Tristan a Sidhe warrior, then Kiernan a seer to the Sidhe and the attraction is mutual. Standing on the verge of Earth’s destruction, will she be forced to choose? Or will she defy convention and follow her heart?

I loved all three of these books! If you are a lover of paranormal romance and adventure, I highly recommend Witches Bounty, Witches Rule, and Witch’s Bane!

Demon hunting witches are almost extinct, with just three left: Colleen, Roz, and Jenna, and demons are stepping up their game!

I love a good demon-hunting witch story, and there is some great world building and interesting backstory. The love interest for Colleen is a Sidhe, Duncan, which is another trope I adore.

However, the story doesn't deliver in a few small ways and a few big ways. The insta-love wasn't awful, but they move from antagonism to mates-forever too quickly for my tastes. Every time something happened and I thought, uh-oh, nothing really came of it. Many opportunities missed.

My largest complaint was that the story kept telling me things that didn't deliver. These demons were supposedly so scary and nasty that Colleen tried to run when she first encountered them. Professionals were never the same after a run-in with these demons. I really looked forward to seeing it unfold on the page. What a disappointment! Duncan's horrific first encounter consisted of extreme lust, to the point that he became a liability. Hardly what I'd call traumatic. The rest of the altercation was the demon shape shifting and Colleen countering. Most of the fight was in summary, with nothing extraordinary in the fight.

I love a sisterhood story, but I didn't feel the depth of their connection.

The story entertained and I didn't have trouble finishing, but I think there were too many missed opportunities and disappointments for my taste. If you love demon assassins, however, what bothers me might not bother you!

New to Ann Gimpel I'm more than pleasantly surprised with the first book in what looks to be a three book series.

The main characters are three demon fighting witches who what is left of their kind. Each witch has a strength although I'm not sure to what those are since each book seems to focus on one particular witch. This trio of witches have an inner strength for fighting and a bond that is endearing. Colleen also has a changeling that is bonded to her. The demons attacks are becoming more aggressive and frequent. With that known Colleen is on her way to help when Duncan appears and means to get her help for his people being attacked by the demons. Well not to give to much away, these two seem to have an attraction that should not be but fate does not care about that. This is the beginning of the paranormal world having to come together to fight these demons or else none of them are going to survive. Colleen and Duncans story is only the beginning for this trio and I can't wait to see who's next to find their other half.

Great beginning and building block for what is sure to be an epic battle.

I listened to the audio and I have to say the narrator was incredible with accents. She made the book even better. It brought the book closer to 3.5 stars for me. My biggest thing with this book is the insta love. I mean within sentences the guy loved her. Someone who has been alive for centuries falls so much in love he was willing to leave everything for her. After 1 conversation. I mean they have sex twice and are already talking about it she’s pregnant. It was just super fast which made me feel unconnected to the love aspect. Also the love scenes just felt almost old times in the phrasing or inexperienced. I don’t know, it’s hard for me to explain but using words like “rut”, “nubbin” and “plumed her mouth” just had me shaking my head.
Then there was the Sidhe themselves. When he first went to the council to fight for 2 items I thought there was going to be a fight. At least more to convince them but nope. It was like one word from him and they changed their whole outlook on the magical world. Overall it was an alright book. The narrator really added to this for me. Especially the accents. There’s something about a well read accent that really draws me in.

Once again, author Ann Gimpel has created an enchanting world full of witches, demons, Sidhe, and more. This is the tale of Colleen, the first of the demon assassin witches we will meet. Colleen, Roz and Jenna are witches. They have a relatively peaceful life in Alaska, running a small shop and keeping to themselves. One dark day, the most incredible man Colleen has ever met saunters through the shop door. His name is Duncan, and he is Sidhe. He comes advising the ladies of a major problem…the Irichna demons are back and stronger than ever. Toss is a smartass changeling called Bubba, and let the mayhem begin! I am a huge fan of Ms. Gimpel’s books, and this series is no exception. I found Colleen and Duncan to be exceptionally strong characters, and the story is a delight to read. It’s fast moving, but not too fast. There’s plenty of spice, and lots of pulse-pounding action. I would absolutely recommend this novel. I would also highly recommend reading the books in order. I am very eagerly anticipating book 2!

Book 1 introduces us to 3 sister witches. Colleen, Roz, and Jenna. The book mainly focuses on Colleen and her romance with Duncan who is Sidhe. Colleen and Duncan really should not be together they should actually be enemies, but when they need to work together to save their people and themselves from a Demon uprising, their feelings for each other grow and overcome their people's differences. If they survive the Demon uprising. I have to say one of my favorite characters in the book is Bubba, he is Colleens familiar who is also a changeling.

I like how each book in this series focuses on a different witch. All 3 books are action packed, full of romance, and several hot steamy scenes. Ann gets down to the nitty gritty when it comes to the sex scenes. So if you are not into explicit you may want to find another set of books.

Instant relationship, not believable and no romance. Main character is strong female which I like. The three witches are the last of their kind. They fight demons. That is their primary purpose in front of everything else. The familiar, Bubba, is great. So you have a long lived witch who is the last line of defense against a demon incursion. A fae lord shows up at her shop and tries to magically coerce her to go with him to fight a demon. He is also long lived. Neither has been in serious relationship, but wait, they are in love and engaged within a few chapters. There are sex scenes which I didn't find appealing. I skipped through those. The word "crotch" in a romantic scene was off putting. I have the first three books in a single volume. I have started book two. I like the witches enough to try book 2.

Demon Assassins Book One.

Colleen Kelly is one of the last witches with the demon hunting ability left. When a Sidhe male shows up and tells her the Sidhe need her help, she cannot believe his ignorance. Demons are in Seattle and her duty is to protect the humans who need her most, not the Sidhe who foisted their duty off on unsuspecting witches centuries ago. Duncan is shocked to find out only three demon hunters remain and insists that the Sidhe take back their rightful duty to contain the demons. When his people agree and request the witches' presence, he is relieved. Is it truly going to be so easy?

If you're looking for a fresh take on demons, witches and the fae, this is the book for you!

*I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review.
I love paranormal romance with lots of magic and this book definitely delivered. I was pulled into Colleen's world from the first page and enjoyed all the page turning suspense. I love that Colleen is strong and doesn't let others walk all over her. I can't wait to read more of this series. Definitely recommend.
