"And no, Sweet Sin...This is absolutely not another day at the office for me."
Whoa!!! I will not be able to give you the review this intoxicating story deserves typing it out on my kindle. The only comfort for me is I will be back to normal in 2019 and this series has me as drugged as our undercover heroine, Ten is drugged in captivity. I crave more of this story. The next books I read will get my full review.
The story is somewhat familiar. Two partner detectives who know each other on an intimate level few other workplace colleagues experience. Ten realizes her emotional connection has grown in an unexpected love direction. Maddox hurts her heart with his adorable shiny girlfriend. Maddox has no idea how deep his feelings go for his partner until he loses her to an undercover assignment.... Largely due to his communication blunders.
Ten finds herself captive to a beautiful, cold-hearted devil of a man, Kane. He is the genius that synthesized the addictive aphrodisiac drug, Nectar. Ten's prison is an opulent underground prison where she is pampered, drugged and caught in an ever-spinning spiral of sexual desire and release. She finds herself perversely attracted to her captor. She is not sure if it is all an effect of the drug, Nectar, to which he has her addicted.
For his part, Kane has never felt this level of obsession for a woman as he does for Tawny (Ten's cover name). She is his drug... his Sin. He cannot bear to let her go.
Oh kill me now!!! I cannot wait to get back to this series. The writing is skillful and seamless. It is a very hot and very dirty story. The plot points are revealed intelligently and smoothly through the first person POV's of the three main characters. Woven in the narrative is some fine character development. All of this evident skill contributing to an imaginative and credible tale.
I'm intrigued because Kane is that devil that calls to a dark romantic heart. At this moment, I cannot tell you why... only... that it is. Can he really fall in love with Tawny (Sin) or is it purely obsession?
Then again... I want Maddox to rescue Ten and claim her as his one true love. Can you see how beguiling and lush Ms. Oliver has written this story? This is a great beginning to what promises to be a sensational romantic suspense.

3.5 stars. A good start to an intriguing story about a detective going undercover to investigate some murders that are related to an underground club involving drugs and prostitution.
Ends with a cliffhanger. Not a fan when an author publishes 3 short books that make up one normal length story. But still a solid start to an interesting story.

Just finished my ARC of Captive...June 20th can not come fast enough! I NEED to know what happens next. I love that this book is told by several POVs, I like being inside multiple heads and know what they are thinking and feeling and this book nailed that. You get to know Detective Angela Tennyson pretty well, and I must say she's a pistol. With a smart mouth and street smarts combine she's a force to be reckoned with, that is until she meets Kane Freestone. With her addiction to him in his secret world will she ever get out again to see her partner, Detective James Maddox? This book was a roller coaster ride of emotions. Who do love, who do you root for, who do you despise? One minute you love a character, the next you are yelling at them to get a grip, only to flip back to loving them all over again. I will be counting down the days until I can get my hands on book 2 & 3

I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an ARC copy of this book.
Amazing! I absolutely loved Captive (Lace Underground book #1) by Tess Oliver. What a fantastic start to her new series. I will try my best not to have spoilers, as I truly hope you pick up Captive, and read it for yourself. Captive covers the story of Angie (AKA Ten, AKA Tawny), a police detective and her partner/ex-partner, Maddox. Angie volunteers (a gut reaction to some heartbreaking news she received) to go undercover to find out about Lace Underground, a secret club, and the man who runs this club, Kane. Kane has been under investigation, but no one has been able to get close enough to him or his secret club to find out anything…until Angie. That is all I am saying about that. Tess Oliver has such a way with character development. The story line is a little different than what Tess Oliver usually writes, with that said it is still so, so, so good. The POW is told by all these characters. There is mystery and drama that will have you on the edge of your seat; SEX, heart break, and did I mention hot, sweaty SEX that only Tess Oliver can deliver. There is so much happening that your emotions will be all over the place. I had this love/hate relationship going on with these characters. I did not know who to root for, but do not worry, there will be no confusion, you will know exactly what is going on and you too will experience the love/hate relationship with these characters. This is a must read! Really! You must read!! I am such a fan of Tess Oliver, and I love every one of her books, and Captive is no different. I read this in one sitting. Captive grabbed hold of me at page one and did not let go until the last page, which then had me saying, NOOOOOOOO! How could you do this to me, Tess Oliver? Oh my days!! My neck hurts from the whiplash and my heart aches. The signs of a truly great read!! I knew this was going to be a change from Tess' usual style and she delivered.....and some!! Angie is a Detective and after some personal heartache she requests to be assigned undercover at a secret club the Lace Underground, where she meets Kane.....my days! This man!!
There is so much more I could say about this book because there is so much going on it will have your head and your heart in a spin. But I don't want to give anything away. You honest to goodness need to read this book and you will understand!! My heart is truly torn!!

This new trilogy Lace Underground is so fantastic omg I couldn’t put the book down, each page the story just got better and better then to reach the end and NO I’ve got to wait for the next part. I will be waiting for the next book with batted breath wanting to know what will happen next in the story. What will happen with Angie? Will Maddox get there in time? And what will happen with Kane? All these answers and more I cant wait. You so won’t be disappointed in having to wait for these answers, A Must Read Book.

I have read MANY books by Author Tess Oliver and I am speechless! MANY times, while reading Captive, I stopped and reminded myself of, who the author was. Captive is like no other that I’ve read by Tess Oliver. I was anxious, on pins and needles. I wanted more of the police duo of Angie and Maddox before the bottom fell out. I reread chapter 1 and I even want more of Dr. Hoffman! I am so ready for “Obsessed”!

OMG I absolutely love this book! This series is going to be great. Angie is a police detective who pleads to go undercover after some personal setbacks. Now she needs to learn more about the Lace Underground. The what, where and who about the exclusive secret members only club. This book is filled with twists and turns. You don't know who to root for. Just when you hate someone you'll have second thoughts. I can't wait to read book 2 and 3. I need to know what happens! Tess Oliver is an excellent storyteller and this series won't let you down.

Ten and Maddox are a formidable team However circumstances will lead one of them on a journey full of twist and turns, the other taking on an undercover mission filled with danger. The book is a page turner, once you start reading it is very hard to put down. Will they find one another or does it become a missed opportunity? Book one leaves you wanting to know the answer.

I’m a huge Tess Oliver fan and love her writing! This book was a little different from her usual writing style and I thought she did a fantastic job!! This book was a fast paced page turner! This book has some mystery and a whole lot of sexiness!! The main characters are intriguing and I’m on the fence about who will windup together! I can’t wait to start Obsessed!!!

Captive, the first book in Tess Oliver's new series (Lace Underground, #1), is nothing short of phenomenal. This is a trilogy that will be released all on the same day, and after reading this one, I am glad to get all the books at once! The angst, lust, mystery and gradual build up of danger is so excruciatingly on point, I had to read this book in one sitting! This is Tess Oliver at her finest!
This story tells the story of young homeless women, living on the streets, or in the park. Every three weeks a bunch of them are picked up in a black van to be taken to a warehouse where they are able to shower, while their clothes which are filthy are picked up and laundered for them at the end of the night. When they first go into shower there are baskets full of shampoos, conditioners, soap and cosmetics and perfume, toothbrushes and pastes, as well as wonderful towels and clothes to change into. After they shower they are treated to a wonderful dinner including dessert and champagne. Then they go get dressed back in their clean laundered clothes, and are given wrapped packages to take with them. and are taken back to the park. In return they never tell anyone where they are going because if they do they won't be able to go anymore. Plus every now and then a woman receives the golden ticket as they call it where they don't go back on the van and are never seen again. Most of them know something is up however and just drink water or tea-no champagne!
No one has ever gotten any dirt on a 30 year old man called Kane Freestone, a billionaire, also a brilliant chemist, who decided to go underground and perfect a serum he made to give to women. He has been watched for a long time but hardly ever is seen. It has been hard to pinpoint anything at all on this elusive and brilliant man.
It is up to the police to find out where he is, and if he has any connection to a couple of recent murders of two older millionaires, and also a few women who have been found tossed in trash cans after being killed. They all had one thing in common, they were all supposedly spending time in the Lace Underground, which is underground and unknown to even the women who they aid from the park.
Detective Angela Tennyson, known as Ten, by her partner James Maddox, is a beautiful woman with red hair, and they both have feelings for each other they both would never admit to, however everyone, especially their boss Clark. As a matter of fact Maddox is now engaged to a young woman named Tiffany, who Ten can't stand.
On stake out they capture two wanted men and Ten gets hurt, and she is in the precinct waiting for Maddox when she sees a request he put in for a new partner on Maddox's desk. She also hears Clark talking about it. She is so hurt, she feels she has had Maddox's back for 3 years and doesn't understand. She leaves the precinct. She goes back later that day and begs Clark to let her go undercover as a homeless teen in the park so she can hopefully infiltrate Kane Freestone's warehouse and get picked to go to the Lace Underground. Clark is very reluctant to let her go, she is a great detective but she may be the only one who can find anything out, so he reluctantly agrees to let her go. This is a decision Ten has made out of hurt and confusion of her partner's actions. She will be totally out of communication with everyone.
This book was fantastic, and I loved that the author had chapters in all the main characters point of view. So much happens so fast which you will read about, it is fast moving, things spiral out of control, Maddox goes crazy to find Ten. This is just the beginning.
The characters are all so well written and all are unique, the mystery and danger increases by the chapters and I am so glad I won't have to wait to read the other two books. There is a lot more going on then anyone knows and I held my breath towards the end as I did not know what was going to happen. I read this book in one sitting! I gave part 1 of this series 5***** stars and can't wait to see what happens!

Wow. I'm still speechless. Warning it does leave off at a cliffhanger that makes you crave to jump into book 2.
(Head shake to clear head) Ok you have a couple key characters Ten, Maddox, Blake, Kane, and the Captain. Ten and Maddox have this unrequited love/lust denial thing for each other. Ten go's undercover and gets swept up in the like high end prostitute club thing.
Kane developed nectar which is a highly addictive drug that lets the inhibitions free and cares float away. He also has chosen Ten/Tawny for his owe personal toy.
So to wrap up warning on sexual slavery, drug use, some BDSM such as bondage, spanking, cuffs and toys.
Overall take; I definitely can't wait to read the next book. Character were intriguing. The confusing pull to like and dislike something all while still becoming aroused the author sis an amazing job.

The mission is dangerous and mysterious. But then Angie meets the enigmatic Kane Freestone. She quickly becomes his willing "Captive". Or is she?
It's been awhile since I've read Tess Oliver and I could kick myself because reading this book reminded me of why I absolutely adore this author! This story is full of angst, dark seduction, taboo wants and thrilling scenes. I was so entrenched in Angie's tale that I literally felt my heart thumping in anticipation. The circumstances that Angie finds herself in are both scary and strangely alluring. (And I won't explain that because I don't wanna give anything away!)
This review is going to be short because books two and three are already available and I've already dived into the next book! Let's just say that I feel like a ping pong ball, bouncing back and forth between Kane's side and Maddox's side. There's a clear line between the good guy and the bad guy but somehow, I'm still drawn to the bad boy. Hmmm...what's that say about me?!?

*Technically, this is NOT a love triangle, though Angie is torn between two men. *There are some situations that may be a trigger for some (drug use, homelessness).
*Again, this ends in a cliffhanger and is part of a series of three!

The circumstances that Angie finds herself in are both scary and strangely alluring. (And I won't explain that because I don't wanna give anything away!)
This review is going to be short because books two and three are already available and I've already dived into the next book! Let's just say that I feel like a ping pong ball, bouncing back and forth between Kane's side and Maddox's side. There's a clear line between the good guy and the bad guy but somehow, I'm still drawn to the bad boy. Hmmm...what's that say about me?!?

*Technically, this is NOT a love triangle, though Angie is torn between two men. *There are some situations that may be a trigger for some (drug use, homelessness).
*Again, this ends in a cliffhanger and is part of a series of three!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Well, honestly, I'm blown away! I have been a huge fan of Tess Oliver and her books for years. This book is very different than her other stories but it in no way changed my opinion of her writing. This dark romance sucked me in from the very first page and didn't let up until the last word !! I am beyond excited for the next book to be released so I can keep reading about Ten, Kane and Maddox. I love Ten, her strength and fierce attitude. She is genuine, real and fearless!! She goes undercover in a very dangerous situation after learning some hurtful things about her partner. I definitely thought they would be perfect together but am now torn as to who to root for. Kane Freestone is the definition of evil! Not every young homeless girl he lures underground leaves with everyone else. Some might not leave alive! Now he has his sights on Ten and she can't help being infatuated by him. Will she make it out alive ? Will she be forced to make a choice between light and dark?? Heaven and Hell?? Good and Evil?? I can't wait to get answers , to get more!!!

wow. i’m impressed, considering this novel was free on iBooks.
this follows the story of detective ten going undercover into a secret society run by the elusive kane. maddox is her partner, and he searches for her as she falls deeper and deeper into her role as an undercover agent.
i found myself rooting for ten & maddox first, then ten & kane, which usually doesn’t happen. i’m not the kinda girl who likes love triangles — the whole time i just feel like tearing out my hair & yelling, “pick one!” but it’s a little more complicated than that. i didn’t hate these characters.
aside from the romance & characters, the plot was pretty good. it was fast-paced enough not to bore me, but thrilling enough to keep me reading & not skip to the end.
with all that being said, i don’t think i’ll be reading the rest of the series. i like kane and maddox too much. (told you, i’m really not a fan of love triangles.) this definitely ended on a cliffhanger, and maybe i’ll re-read the whole series someday, but that day is not today. i’d recommend this to fans of easy romance novels with a hint of intrigue and eroticism.

I have to confess I found this totally addictive reading despite a very problematic story. It's about a police detective who goes undercover to infiltrate an exclusive club where members (wealthy men) pay a lot of money for sex with women hooked on a powerful drug. She catches the attention of the man behind it all, Kane, becoming his own personal sex slave.
Needless to say it doesn't make for the easiest reading as she effectively becomes addicted to the narcotic she's forced to inject constantly and to sex with Kane (and there's a lot of sex with Kane). It doesn't particularly help that Kane doesn't seem to have any redeeming features making the whole thing feel like long term date rape rather than a romance.
It is however well written and I found it very difficult to put down. I liked main character Angie/Ten/Tawnie and found myself rooting for her. I also really liked her police partner Maddox and the relationship between the two of them. I am very curious about where the story will go but given the story I'm not sure I should really continue with it. Will leave it a bit and see.

Insane!!
What a great story! Wlow, how do I review this?!? It is so interesting and just grabs you and you can't put it down!
You have two detectives that have been partners for 3 years, make and a female. Some stuff goes down and important words aren't shared and the female cop, Ten as she is called, goes undercover. So you kinda have 2 stories/sides going at the same time.
The undercover work is a very dangerous case. The male detective -Maddox - fines out Ten went undercover and is going crazy trying to find her.
Meanwhile, Ten is undercover and underground at Lace Underground whacked out on "nectar" what a crazy drug that is! She is in so deep, will she be able to get out? We know she does, but what happens till then? I'm off to read book 2 now. Go get this book, it is crazy good!

I am so hooked. I don't really want to say anything about this book and ruin it/give it away. The blurb at the book doesn't really tell you much which is great! By the time you are to chapter 3 you are hooked. I literally couldn't stop reading. I'm writing this quick review and then moving on to book 2. I fear I am going to have a hard time waiting on the third and final book.
