Merry Wrath Mysteries #8

Mean Girl Murder

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author, Leslie Langtry comes the next assassin-in-suburbia Merry Wrath Mystery...

The Halloween Parade is coming up, and former CIA agent-turned-suburbanite Merry Wrath’s Girl Scout Troop hopes to repeat a 1st place trophy for the 3rd year in a row. But when they find a dead woman dressed as a witch, a mysterious treasure, and face a ruthless kidnapping, it looks like Merry’s in for a different kind of triple threat.

To add fuel to her bonfire, Mom’s in town—meaning Merry has to replace all that bullet-riddled furniture in the guest room—and wither her wedding date approaching, her groom-to-be's twin taxidermist sisters are insisting on doing the decorating.

Between her family fiascoes and a dead witch who was loathed by everyone in town, Merry's head is spinning faster than an apple in a bobbing barrel. Who wanted this mean girl dead? Will this Halloween end with a treat? Or has Merry been tricked?

Another fun visit to Who's There, Iowa. Merry Wrath, her Girl Scout Troop, and supporting cast get involved in another murder case. So glad the next book comes out in January of 2019.

Oh, my, this is a laugh-a-minute book! Former CIA Agent Merry Wrath and her best friend Kelly run a Girl Scout Troop of young girls who are very fascinated with the things Merry did in her past life. They are busy working on a float for a parade they are in when Merry discovers a dead body. Things get funnier from there on out. I love funny books and this one certainly lifted my spirits. I highly recommend this book!

Succinctly put this book has the same problem as the last one and that is Merry. She and the girl scouts - as always one of the highlights of the books - are working on a float for the Helloween parade, when some lowlife deposits the corpse of a salesclerk dressed as a witch there. For once, the victim isn't connected to Merry but she can't help herself and starts investigating. This, of course, doesn't go over well with Rex.

As in the last one Merry has epiphanies about why Rex is so angry with her but still continues to investigate the murder. I know that her investigations are the basis for the entire series. These last two books made her seem more like a spoiled child than an Ex-CIA-agent and that leeched some of the enjoyment out of it. As in the Miss Fortune series by Jana Deleon Langtry is going to have to figure out Merry's and Rex's relationship for future books. Though I am still fearful that she is still upholding the love triangle and that Merry is going to leave Rex at some point to be with Riley.

The crime itself was interesting enough though the solution was kind of obvious.

It is Halloween time and the girl scouts' float is in trouble when they find a dead body in a witch costume on it.

What I enjoyed:
* The scouts and the cats are the best part of these books
* Kelly is a saint for running the troop with Merry

What could be better:
* I'm having a harder and harder time believing Merry used to be a top spy when she does stupid things and acts like a petulant child
* The love triangle won't go away
* Rex is unbelievable optimistic if he thinks Merry will ever stop interfering in his investigations

Disappointing

I chose this rating for a couple of reasons. She's a former undercover agent but she believes a simple text from her mother after her mother's been missing for several hours? Also, she's willing to give up investigating things because Rex doesn't like it? These are not the actions of a retired agent. Merry has gone from a "kick-butt take-no prisoners" ex agent to a " worried about stepping on the little man's ties" kinda gal.😕

LOVE IT! - Fun to read story, cozy mystery, crazy kids, and one over curious ex-spy.
Easy to pick up without having read previous installments in the series.
A real who-done-it that keeps you guessing and provides laugh out loud entertainment!
Fun and flowing writing style that makes you want to keep reading, and reading, and reading!
Intriguing characters that might be a neighbor in your own small town. (OK, maybe not a lot of ex-spies in my neighborhood, right? hmm)

LOVE IT! - Those Girl Scouts
The girls of Merry's girl scout troop contribute tons of fun! They have crazy ideas that only the young can conjure up and would make great spies. Really, those pinky swears CANNOT be broken!
Their dialog brings smiles and laughs.
"I didn't kill her," Andrews whined. "I wouldn't hurt a fly."
"You spanked me once, Daddy," Ava said matter-of-factly. "And last week you said you were going to kill the guy who fixed our car."

LOVE IT! - Merry and Rex
The relationship between Merry and her fiance, the cop, is both entertaining and romantic. Her tendency to explore and investigate conflicts with his by-the-book job.
"Why were you out here?" Rex asked as he walked through the barn with me on his heels.
"I've already told you three times," I said.
"Tell me again. Maybe I'll believe it this time."
I said nothing.

Merry has two outstanding job offers, one from an ex and one recommended by her fiance. Her mother is in town to help with wedding details. Add in one creepy furniture salesman and a cat that likes to wear a werewolf mask. What could go wrong?
I love this book! I am absolutely going to read more Merry Wrath!!

I received an ARC from the publisher for purposes of an unbiased review.

I loved, loved this book. This is my favourite in the series so far and one I need to add to my audio book collection. I just love the way the girl scouts got involved in this story and I had a lot of fun imagining them dressing up and decorating the float. Halloween is a fun time of year and this has really helped me get into the spirit of the season. The characters are what keeps me returning to the series, especially all the girls and the mischief that they get into. The mystery was good, I especially liked the middle with the parade. There is a lot of drama that isn't actually connected to the investigation, such as shopping for costumes but I actually found that it all blended in and I was to busy chuckling to notice and in some ways it just follows from one situation to the next. Just loved it , can't wait to see what the author has in store for the characters next.
with the Halloween parade coming up and the honour of claiming first place up for grabs the last thing Merry and her girl scouts group wanted was to find a dead body hidden on there float. One of the girls recognizes the witch and Merry is quickly following up clues. Can she find the killer and still create a prize winning float? Maybe if her mother hadn't shown up to help with the wedding plans only to disappear after a date with one of the suspects. Did Merry really send her mother out on a date with a killer? Than another body is found and one of the girls gets kidnapped. Merry will have to use all her skills and training as a Ex CIA agent if she wants to have a happy ending.

Once again Merry and Kelly are helping their Girl Scout Troop make a float for the Halloween parade. Having won first place two years in a row makes them hungry for a repeat performance. However little things lie a dead woman on their float and Merry discovering a box with four gold coins in the same barn as the dead woman, another dead woman closer to home, and a whole bunch of clues that don't make any sense get in the way of serious float building. I must say Kelly joined Merry without any encouragement, and those two jumped right in to sleuthing. Kind of an expensive hobby for Merry, but it was nice her mom benefited from her shopping spree! I enjoyed Rex's new pet and Philby's newest Halloween costume as well!

You can't go wrong with an ex-CIA spy, an emergency room nurse, and a troop of girl scouts! Obviously Ms Langtry has some experience with one of these things at least! I doubt we will ever find out exactly which one(s) it is! No matter, because she weaves a fabulous story around these facts, her animals, Rex, the new family she will gain if the wedding ever happens and even Riley. And when it is over you will want the next book as soon as possible. But content yourself with rereading the series, because Ms Langtry ignores threats and promises, and takes her own sweet time.😁But it will be worth the wait, of that you can be sure!

This is a great book; this is the eighth book in the Merrt Wrath series written by Leslie Langtry. Between her family fiascoes and a dead witch who was loathed by everyone in town, Merry's head is spinning faster than an apple in a bobbing barrel. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author.

It's Halloween time, Merry and her Girl Scouts are hoping to build another 1st place float. If they can pull it off, this will be the third year in a row. What could go wrong? The better question would be will anything go their way and help them win? Everyone associates Halloween with a witch, just not a dead one on a Girl Scout float. On top of this; Merry's mother comes to town, they may have uncovered a stolen treasure and one of the Girl Scouts is kidnapped. Rex wants Merry to leave it all to him, after all he is the police detective in town. As we all know if you've read previous books, Merry cannot help herself and that will cause problems with her and Rex. This is a laugh out loud cozy mystery that will leave you wanting more of these awesome characters. Grab a copy to see how it all unfolds. You can probably read this as a stand alone, but you would miss great stories and character background. Pick them all up, each one is as awesome and funny as the next.

Another Laugh out loud episode in the Merry Wrath series! This series has the most fantastic characters! You have to love Merry Wrath an ex CIA agent in hiding, her best friend, Kelly who helps keep her a little more down to earth, her fiance Rex, the detective in town, a strange looking vulture she uses for talk therapy, her mom who pops in to help and is a very proper state senator's wife who likes a little adventure now and then, Rex's strange twin sisters whose business is taxidermy and some of the most fun characters, Merry and Kelly's Girl Scout Troupe who are like Merry mini-me characters. Now to all this goodness, add to that a murder where the victim is found inside the troupe's Halloween float they were working on! Lots of red-herrings and craziness and a good mystery to try to solve! This series is one of the most hilarious series you can read and enjoy!

This installment of this series does not disappoint. Merry and her Girl Scout Troop need to get their parade float ready for the weekend parade. When they discover a dead body dressed as a witch on the float, Merry just can't help but try to solve the mystery regardless of what her law enforcement fiance says. As an ex CIA agent, she just can't help it. Combine this with her upcoming wedding, an unexpected visit from her mother, a job decision that has to be made and the most fun group of Girl Scouts you will ever meet, you get non-stop, whirlwind mystery that is both comical and enticing. I could not put the book down until I knew who did it. While you can read this as a stand alone, the series is so much fun that I'm not sure why you'd want to. Can't wait for the next book.

Mean Girl Murder is the 8th book in the Merry Wrath series. The characters are likable and the cozy mystery kept me guessing. There is humor, romance, and friendship. I was hoping by now Merry would figure out a job that would be fulfilling, but not yet. The whole situation with Riley is overdone although it does add humor and relationship issues. Merry and her best friend Kelly are Girl Scout leaders. There is a Halloween Parade the girls are participating in. Things don't go as planned when they find a dead woman in a witch costume, gold coins and one of the girls gets kidnapped, Merry needs to solve the case very quickly! This is an enjoyable series and I like the cozy mystery. #MeanGirlMurder #MerryWrathMysteries #GemmaHallidayPublishing

Wow! Loved this book! Ms. Langtry’s heroine, Merry, is so funny and smart and likable! Who would think to mix the FBI, the CIA and the Girl Scouts?! The storyline was easy to follow and so interesting that I didn’t want to put it down. If you like fast-moving, fun and exciting cozy mysteries, I think you would like this series. The books in this series can be read separately, but I would recommend that you read them in order to get the full story on the main characters. I was provided an advance copy of this book and voluntarily wrote an unbiased review.

I had so much fun reading this book. This story is so well written and has such imaginative characters. Merry Wrath is an ex-CIA agent, now a suburbanite leader of a girl scout troop. Those scouts are far too creative for everyone's sake! Rex, Merry's fiancee. is a local detective who thinks she needs to stay out of his cases. His twin sisters, the taxidermists want to do the wedding decorations. Merry's mother is in town to help with wedding prep. This is a really mad romp with so many suspects. This story just rolls along and I had to finish it before I put it down!

Merry and her girls are setting up a float for the Halloween parade. When they arrive to do more work on it, Merry discovers a body stashed on it. Since this involves her troop, Merry can't leave it alone.
They also find some extremely rare coins that may have been stolen from a museum.

This is another fun story from Leslie Langtry, it has well developed characters and a solid plot line along with some unexpected twist and humor.

Halloween Treats Are Tricky

Decorating a Halloween float is supposed to be fun but then a dead body shows up. Wanting to win for the third year in a row gets complicated when their chicken wire skull keeps getting destroyed. Then the gold coins are found and the hunt begins. But the entire town hated the woman so too many suspects to interview. A hunt for gold and kidnappers in the town. And Rex gets a dog. Laugh out loud series.

I have devoured this series! I just can't get enough. The characters continue to develop with each adventure. The idea of these little girls growing up just like Merry is such a hoot! You can see both the girls and Merry learning from each other - this is brilliant plot and character development. Kudos to Leslie Langtry!

The Merry Wrath Mysteries give me much-needed belly laughs, and this one was no exception. Merry and Kelly's Girl Scout Troop's quest for a three-peat in the annual Halloween parade float contest. Their efforts are thwarted when a dead body is found on their float. Merry can't help herself and inestigates, but Rex feels she doesn't trust his abilities. Will Rex call off the wedding...?

Love Merry and her Girl Scouts! Murder on a Halloween float! Add in a cat who looks like Hitler masquerading as a werewolf, a theft ring, wedding planning, and a new four legged character introduced, it left me wanting more, as usual for Leslie Langtry books! What will Merry be up to next?

Whose who.

So many twists and turns in this one knowing the good guys from the bad guys is a bit fuzzy. While it all works out in the end (doesn't it always), the getting there is full of fun, mayhem and a were(wolf)cat.

Very surprised

I can't begin th o tell you how much I love this series. This one really had me stumped. I was completely shocked by who the killer was. As much a I like to figure it out ahead of time it is always nice to be stumped once in a while. Great read.
