Love and Libations is book two in the Holidays and Heroes series by Patricia Eddy. I loved the first book in this series, Mistletoe and Mochas, and have been so looking forward to getting to this one.

Garrett James is thirty two years old. While serving his country, Garrett lost a leg in an explosion. It took him two years to finally come to terms with what happened to him and figure out what to do with his life. A job as a bartender gave Garrett new dreams to strive for. The dream of opening up his own bar and restaurant. He’s at work one evening when the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen comes in to drive her drunk boyfriend home. It becomes clear to Garrett very quickly that this is not a healthy relationship and he vows to do whatever he can to help.

Lilah McKinney is twenty nine years old. Lilah has been with her boyfriend for several years. Little by little he has driven her friends away and also taken away her self confidence. He’s all she has now, she relies completely on him. But then his behavior escalates.

The timing of their first meeting might not have been right. But these two will get another chance. Now it’s up to them to see if there could be something between them. Another Valentine’s Day is approaching. Could this finally be a day of love to celebrate for Lilah and Garrett? Or will it be yet another one to spend alone? There is one more book in this series, book three, Targets and True Love. I can’t wait to read it.

I loved this book. Eddy does such a wonderful job with her characters, and Lilah grabbed me right away. Her motivations and reactions to stress and trauma were highly believable. I will say that it did trigger some memories, but it was worth it. I love Garrett. His kindness and respectful treatment of Lilah stole my heart. Another winner! I didn't burn dinner this time, but I found myself stealing what time I could to keep reading.

Lovely romance for the Valentine's Day season! A hero that I would want in my life and a strong and lovely heroine that works through some terrible situations. The book also has some really great drink ideas for those who love cocktails. I love all Patricia Eddy's books and would recommend them for others who love smart and sexy romances.

I am most certainly in the minority here. It is a good read and I can't exactly pinpoint what I didn't like about it. The author did a good job.

Grab the Tissues and Be Ready to Swoon

I’m dispelling the myth that you can ‘only read holiday novellas around the time the holiday in the story takes place’ right now. Especially if it’s one of Patricia D Eddy’s holiday novellas. Because, yes, there’s a theme and situations in the books that center on a holiday, but the stories told go far beyond that narrow sentiment.

After reading Eddy’s Mistletoe & Mochas holiday novella (part of her Holidays and Heroes series), I was eager to jump into the other two books. Time and work created a bit of a delay in getting to Love & Libations, but February rolled around with a reminder, and it was certainly worth pulling up on my tbr and immersing myself in, even after Valentine’s Day. This book hit hard, my friends. It is an emotional rollercoaster with a beautiful heart, and it left me wondering yet again how amazing Eddy is at pulling so much detail together in less than 200 pages.

Love & Libations is a deep and intense story of healing and learning to love. It’s about finding a place of true comfort with the person who helps you see your worth. And it’s not an easy journey for either of the main characters. Along the way they each experience true recovery from the hurt, tragedy, and loss they’ve experienced. They help each other discover the strength behind their pain, and rekindle their ability to love through the pain of their pasts. Both Garrett and Lilah endure so much, eventually understanding that the beauty in imperfections and scars ultimately make a person who they are. Watching each of them rebuild their lives and find someone to love is truly inspirational.

Eddy creates such vivid and well-developed characters I often forget they’re not “real.” But her author’s note is a stark reminder that many works of fiction spring from origins that are all too real. Lilah is not only a likable and sympathetic character, she has an emotional draw that called to some very visceral levels of my soul. And Garrett is so much more than a typical swoony romance hero, with a powerful backstory and a solid emotional investment in his and Lilah’s lives. Their story is one that will stick with me for a long time. And yes, I will definitely be revisiting this one often, and not just on Valentine’s Day.

As with all of Patricia Eddy's books, I started reading the Love and Libations ARC I received and simply could not put it down again until I had finished.

The second in her Holidays and Heroes series about veterans finding love, this is a bit of a departure from the first but in a good way. In my opinion anyway.

While the veteran suffered terrible wounds in Afghanistan, it is the lady he sets his sights on who carries the burden of emotional scars. Scars that are handled with a delicate, understanding touch that allows the reader to understand her situation, sympathize and urge her on to the loving relationship you know is awaiting her.

Another departure, from typical genre this time, is that to hero, Garrett, shows more understanding of what his would-be-love needs instead of playing macho hero and just stepping in and taking over to fix things.

While deals with his own demons and insecurities but still maintaining his status of alpha male.

As always, the writing is smooth and flowing with the necessary details to let you 'see' the characters and their surroundings as if dealing with real people face to face. They come alive on the page (or screen if using an e-reader) and you can easily find yourself feeling as if you are in a conversation with these people instead of reading a marvelous piece of fiction.

By the end of the book, I was cheering the lovers and wanted to beat the **** out of the story's villain. Forever the mark of a good book.

If you like a Happily Ever After for people who've paid dearly to survive in order to find that one person they were meant to be with, then by all means pick up a copy of Love and Libations as soon as possible.

Please note, however, that there are incidents of abuse--physical and emotional--that can be disturbing to some folks. But the characters' strength and resiliency, their ability to understand not only their situation but the other's will dissolve any discomfort and have you rooting for them all over again.

I received and ARC of this book for an honest review.

I felt so bad for Lilah. The mental abuse she suffered was almost worse than the physical abuse she suffered at the hands of her boyfriend Danny. He had her feeling worthless. She felt she had nowhere to go to get out of the relationship.

Danny chose the right bar on the right night to get drunk in. Lilah came to pick up a drunk Danny and take him home, and met Garrett James, the bartender. Garrett was a disabled veteran.

Garrett is just what Lilah needs after she ends up in the ICU. He is smart enough to give her time and space to recover from her injuries and to seek counseling. When the time is right there is plenty of heat between the two of them.

Their love story is well written and very moving. Garrett James is a hero in my book and Lilah McKinney is a survivor who dares to dream.

Love this book!! I felt my heart tugged at for Lilah right away. She is in a bad position with her boyfriend. She meets Garrett when she comes to pick up her drunk and disorderly boyfriend. Garrett works at the bar while working towards his dream of owning a bar.

Lilah his to endure a lot with her boyfriend as Garrett tries to get her to see what is happening. Things finally come to a head and Lilah has to leave her boyfriend. Garrett leaves Lilah knowing it is for the best. Both Lilah and Garrett continue to grow and pursue their dreams.

I thought that the reawakening of Lilah and the strength of Garrett were awesome things. This was definitely a tall drink of romance that you should order up for Valentine’s Day!

SUCH a wonderful book. So emotional, so true, so realistic. I have no experience with the sort of abuse the heroine endears, so if that character in this type of book is not written well, I tend to be annoyed by her refusal to change her "lot in life." That was not the case with this book. I sympathized with both main characters, and not once did I yell at the heroine (in my head) or want to throw my Kindle at the wall. All I wanted was for both Lilah and Garrett to find their happily ever - together.

This is an emotional read about two individuals who have a great deal to overcome before they can truly be happy. You will enjoy the journey, all the way to the end, and this will be one of those books you will not want to leave when you reach that last page. Well done, Patricia Eddy.

***I received an ARC for an honest review***

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I wasn't disappointed. This book hit really close to home for me. My aunt was in an abusive relationship, and it took the guy going to jail to get her away from him too. I really love how Patricia D. Eddy didn't try to gloss over the horrors of abusive relationships. The emotions in this story are so real. I found it difficult to read at times because it was so real. I found myself wanting to jump in the book, grab Lilah and just run. There were several parts where I was reading with tears running down my face.

This is a beautiful story that I think everyone should read

I received and ARC for an honest review of this book, which was SO easy to do! This story was absolutely amazing! It was heartfelt. It was REAL! The two characters, Garrett and Lilah, were both so strong. But what I loved the most was that they both had their moments of weakness, too. And when one was weak, the other was there to comfort them through the storm. I loved that both characters were wounded, but through time, trials, and heartache, they still healed each other. A wonderful happy-ever-after ending. You won't be disappointed.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I loved this story by Ms. Eddy. I think if you can definitely buy this book. It was raw and showed a lot of emotion. Lilah went through a lot and being in a situation that want the best years ago my heart went out to her. Garrett was just enough for me. Showing her what was missing but giving her space to reclaim her life. It made me cry in a good way. Great book.

What an emotional and beautiful journey with a little bit of spice! Ms. Eddy has captured the raw emotions of abuse and love. She has taken the difficult subject of mental and physical abuse and molded it into a great story of love and strength. She has you cheering and crying for the hero and the heroine from the start! If you love stories of people overcoming huge life obstacles and seeing them get what the deserve in the end, then this needs to be added to your TBR pile now!

Meek, scared, self absorbed h. H deserved better.

Well, this was the third book I’ve tried by this author and it was sooooo hard to get through! I’m going to states reasons for my extremely low review and some will be spoiler ish.
The H, Garrett, lost one of his legs in war. He’s a bartender.
The h, Lilah, is a part time librarian when they meet. But had been a graphic designer and enjoyed writing.
She was in a relationship with a guy for 4 years when she meets Garrett. The BF is emotionally and verbally abusive to Lilah, but NOT physical until their final confrontation and he is drunk and high on cocaine. She gets severely injured by a car.
Her and Garrett do not see each other for a year. The ex bf is in jail.
It takes forever for them to actually form any type of relationship. Neither one searched hard to find each other after her incident. When she sees Garrett again she nearly passes out and acts like she’s scared of him. But he had done nothing but help her before. This made no sense.
There is no sex until 75% range of the book. Really they don’t even starting dating till umm 60% range? This is slower than a slow burn book.
Lilah continues to show many weak characteristics throughout the book. The moments she seems stronger later on kind of make her more of a B than strong.
Her behaviors mimic some behaviors of battered women who were in a physically violent relationship, not just emotional and verbal. ( I myself was in a physically violent relationship at one point and I got out. I didn’t even ever act like she did. ) that being said, I find weak and overly dramatic struggling females hard to read because they make me mad. I’m like take that struggle and grow from it. Get stronger! But she remained weak and wounded bird behavior. She treated Garrett poorly at times when he had his own situations. She keeps wanting to run from him, but in the beginning of the book she couldn’t even leave her verbally abusive jerk bf she didn’t even love.
What set me over the line of not wanting to read anymore of this authors books, was finally in their first intimate moment he sees her stomach scars and he asks what happens. She casually brushes over having been stabbed and lost a baby and that she couldn’t have children. He needs a moment to process, she brushes on by that like it’s no big deal to her anymore and they have sex. Okay, wait....hold on...so having been stabbed didn’t make her act skittish, but a mainly verbally abusive bf did? And then what got me, is that Garrett was opening up to her. She knew about his leg. He admitted to being self conscious. That relationship was getting serious! And she hadn’t even bothered to tell him before they progressed their relationship she could no longer have kids. Couldn’t even be bothered to tell him about her incident so he didn’t feel so self conscious? What if he desperately wants children? She didn’t take the relationship or him into consideration in this book. It was the all Lilah show. And that’s finally what made me say, nope. This was the third I’ve tried and I wasn’t impressed with first two either. But at least I wasn’t mad at them.
While the books overall I’ve tried are not bad, well I did not like this one at all, there’s just nothing that grabs your attention and hooks you in. Nothing unique, imaginative or exciting to these stories in my opinion. Some readers might really love them. Especially if you’re just looking for a casually read. But they aren’t for me. There didn’t appear to be any bad grammatical errors or bad editing in this one. So that was a plus point. Had Lilah taken Garret into consideration more and not been so meek, I would have rated a bit higher on this one.

Not Worthy

Unfortunately, this second book in the Holidays and Heroes Series, was not to my liking. I gave it three stars only because Milan blew it for me completely. I I understood her behavior during the first half, but after that completely disliked her tremendously. Garrett was an amazing hero! He deserved so much more. He deserved a better partner to spend his life with. She was not worthy of him at the end.

I really enjoyed Love and Libations. Garrett and Lilah's story is heartfelt and thoughtful. Garrett is a veteran who lost part of his leg while he was deployed. Since back from his service, he's worked at some bars, trying to save to open his own bar. It's at his job where he ends up meeting the woman who will change his life, and whose life he will change. Lilah's boyfriend is a drunken, abusive idiot whom Lilah has to come pick one night from the bar where Garrett works. Garrett is instantly taken by the beauty he knows is far too good for the drunken ass who's yelling at her for no reason. But, Lilah refuses to accept Garrett's offer of someone else taking her boyfriend home. Nope, she refuses to accept any help from anyone, even though it's clear to the whole bar that her boyfriend is abusing her and that she doesn't deserve it.

Things come to a head one day when Garrett finds Lilah walking in the rain and he pretty much forces her to get into his truck so he can take her home. When her boyfriend, drunker than ever, and high, ends up pushing her into an oncoming car, Lilah finally ends up getting the help she needs to leave and make a better life for herself. But, will she ever see her rescuer again? The man whom she has dreamed of ever since she woke up in the hospital? The man who hasn't let Lilah leave his mind since he left her in the hospital 11 months ago?

I loved seeing Garrett gently wooh Lilah, and her accepting his comfort. I loved seeing her come into her own and blossom with each day away from her ex. I hated it when she pushed Garrett away, though, due to her insecurities and her triggers. But I loved that Garrett didn't just fall over himself to welcome her back in, he made her work for it a little when she finally got her head out of her ass and realized how she felt about him and came back for him. I felt for her throughout the whole story until she ran and hurt Garrett so badly. Thank God for Ro, though. That woman is awesome and she gave Lilah some hard truths and forced her to realize just how cruel and ridiculous she had been.

If you have abuse triggers, Love and Libations really won't be your thing. But, if abuse doesn't bother you to read, put Love and Libations on your TBR list today. It's sweet, it's sexy, and heartfelt and you'll fall in love with Garrett and Lilah, especially Garrett!

I received an ARC in return for an honest review. With that being said I did enjoy reading this book.

Lilah is your classic battered woman even though she doesn't realize it until it is pointed out to her when she comes to pick up her drunk boyfriend from the bar. The bar tender, Garrett, tried to help her but she was so repressed that she just ignored him.

It all came to a head when Garrett saw her soaking wet walking home in the rain and gave her a ride. When her boyfriend saw this he flipped and in the process Lilah was hurt, hit by a car and ended up in ICU. The boyfriend was arrested and it took Lilah a year before she was her real self again.

Happy Lilah was out with friends when Garrett discovered that she had come into his new bar. They are reunited and sparks fly. After a year of therapy Lilah understands it was not her fault and Garrett agrees.

Garrett has his own struggles. He is a veteran that lost most of his leg in Iraq. He has a prosthesis and is afraid that Lilah will think differently of him when they finally come together. He has had 3 women see his "stump" and they have all gone running. He has true feeling for Lilah and doesn't know how she will react.

They both have battle scars and triggers and are trying to cope with them in the real world. Friends of Lilah's ex boyfriend try to destroy them and their relationship, triggering Lilah's desire to run. In the end she comes to her senses and they do get their happy ever after.

With that, if you do have triggers about domestic violence or PTSD be warned. This book is very well written but put you and your health first.

I did enjoy reading this book as will as Ms. Eddy's other books.

I quite enjoyed this realistic tale of two ordinary people, living out their lives and finding love after dealing with personal hardships. Lilah is in an abusive relationship when she meets Garrett, a wounded war veteran. Events conspire that have them go on to live their own lives for a year before meeting again, this time with Lilah free and willing to give a relationship another go.

What I liked most about this romance was that it didn't sugarcoat the realities that many people face. Lilah is well written as a woman who has fallen into a difficult relationship that she can't see her way out of, until she is released from the prison of her own making and finally able to grow into the woman she wants to be. Garrett is a strong and determined man, but has difficulty finding a woman who isn't repulsed by his injury and prosthetic leg. But Lilah, having suffered her own trauma is able to see the real man that Garrett is and his physical scars match her own, such that they really see each other and the beauty that is within. It's a really sweet romance overall and perfect for Valentine's day, and a reminder that physical perfection is not what love is all about. 4 stars for this heartwarming story.

This is a wonderful story but I have to say that if you are a woman that is in a situation or have been in the situation of emotional and or physical abuse from your partner this book may set off triggers for you. This book is a story of one woman’s journey from the abusive relationship, and the man that had helped to be get herself free of it. It took her a while to get over the emotional abuse for it had happen over years add to that early on in her relationship with Danny she was in a mugging gone wrong. She was 20 weeks pregnant and the attack not only took her baby but also the ability to have any more children. Now we as women who desire children to have something like this to happen is emotionally damaging in it’s self.

Garrett himself has had to fight his own demeans. Having lost most of his leg in an explosion that took out the hummer that he was in and killed his best friend he still has to struggle with some of the PSD that had resulted from it, and the two years that he spent hating his life until a friend of his helped him to pull it together again and he started back on the road to health.

Danny her boyfriend at the time was coming on a regular basis to the bar the Garret James was working at as a bartender. Danny was a lousy drunk and they were repeatedly having to kick him out for his behavior. This is how Garret meets Lilal the girlfriend of Danny whom he verbally abuses each chance he gets. Garrett tries to tell her to leave him that she is worth so much more than the way that he is treating her. It all comes to a head however around Valentines day where Danny brings her to the bar leaves her and joins his friends to drinking. Later as Garrett is driving down the road it is poring down rain and it is cold; walking down the side walk is a figure huddled down trying to protect the groceries that she has and he recognizes her as Lilahl. He pulls the truck over and has her get in. She doesn’t have a car Danny made sure of that and for some reason the bus did not come to the stop so she was walking the 4 miles to their apartment. Turning up the heat to try and warm her they arrive at the apartment complex and Danny comes out pulls Lilah out of the truck and begins to physically beat her. Garrett comes out to try and help her and Danny turns on him in between beating Lilah. At one point she took off running but unable to see where she was going with Danny chasing after her she runs out into traffic and is hit by a car. This is the beginning of her journey to healing both physically and mentally. Garrett contacted one of the few friends that was on her phone and had her flown in to be with Liliah. He knew that it would not help her for him to stay around that she needed to find herself first.
.
It was a year before she finally saw him again and it was all by accident though she had gone back to the bar that he had worked at but he was not longer there. You see he pursued his own dream to open his own bar that served dinners as well. Libations is it’s name and it is the place that she and her friend chose to celebrate her new book being published. Now the rest of the story is for you to read. Is she able to over come her demons that Danny has instilled in her especially since he sent goons to attack both her and Garrett? It is a fantastic story if you are willing to chance your own triggers I know I had to deal with a few of my own. It is a story of healing, growth, and love. A story that needs to be read. At the end of the book if you are a woman in one of these relationships know that you are not alone, there are many of use out there that have experienced some of what you are experiencing. There are places that you can go for help, please consider them before the violence get to the point of life and death.

I am voluntarily writing this review for this book I received through Booksprouts Arc.

Garrett is ex military and that where he loss his leg. Working in the bar he liked to make specialty drinks. One of his customers Danny was getting belligerent so they told him to a ride home because he was too drunk. Danny's girlfriends Lilah shows up to pick her boyfriend up and drive him home.

Lilah takes him home but when she wakes up the next morning Danny is not there. Garrett is still bartending at the same place but wants to open a bar/restaurant in another area. Garrett still is thinking about Lilah since the first time he met her.

Garrett ran into Lilah on her way home it had been raining and she was soaked. He drove her home when Danny comes running out to her one thing leads to another ad Lilah gets hit by a car when Danny pushed her away.

Garrett meanwhile opens his new bar/restaurant. One evening he sees Lilah and he couldn't believe she is at his bar. She looked beautiful and they got to talk. Lilah had been in a mental and then physical abusive relationship with Danny until that night.

Lilah and Garrett are getting closer but each one had their own fears.
Garrett hadn't really dated after his long term girlfriend left. He was nervous about his leg and how Lilah would react. Meanwhile she was still had trauma from all the abuse.

Lilah and Garrett were at the bar when Hank Danny's friend came in and grabbed Lilah. Garrett event ballistic and throwing Hank out the door. Later that evening Hank and his friends came back looking for Garrett he wasn't there but his bartender Ro and bouncer Bill were.
They broke the door and started to trash the place.

Lilah is now feeling it's all her fault and decided to cut Garrett loose she didn't want him to get hurt anymore. Garrett's heart was really breaking all his calls and texts went unanswered. Finally his last call he let her loose and basically told him the ball was in her court.

Will Garrett and Lilah finally get their HEA. Will Danny get out and play havoc with their new relationship. Guess you'll have to read this book.

This book deals with mental and physical abuse which might be a trigger the book made me cry but it was cathartic.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is not the first story by Patricia Eddy that I've had the honor of reading, but this one hit home and stayed there for quite a while. When I finished Love and Libations, I had to breathe for a while before considering what I wanted to say in a review. I could say the book was a wonderful read. Or I could say that Patricia Eddy had woven a wonderful tale of love that you will remember after you finish the book. Instead, I will tell you that if you aren't moved by this book, then there is something quite wrong with you. This book is about emotional and eventually physical abuse. It is about the abuser trying to control the abused. It is about the worthless feeling the abused has after years of the emotional abuse and the drain on their self esteem.

Garrett and Lilah and two people Fate brought together and since I believe strongly in fate, this hit the good spot for me. Lilah, in an abusive relationship, enters the bar where Garrett works one night. That visit planted the spark that stays with them until a burst of violence briefly brings them together again. This book is about redemption because the abused always blame themselves wrongly. This book is about a love that burns so bright within these two people who are definitely deserving. Garrett, who understands abuse better than most, is written like a true southern gentleman, the one that the romantic in me loves to read about. The one you dream about at night. The guy who sends flowers just because and the guy who will always be there when you need a shoulder to cry on. I could fall in love with him myself. Thank you for writing a book that I could read while allowing my romantic heart to roam free over the pages. I love romance the way Patricia Eddy writes it! You will not ever be disappointed in this book - it is what caring and romance should be like.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is my first book from this author and I was totally in love with her writing style. Being a big military supporter this book really touched my heart with all the soldiers have gone through. They are true hero’s deserving to find happiness. I thought this story was very well written with wonderful characters and a great plot that holds your attention.

My heart really went out to Lilah and all she went through with her boyfriend. It is never easy to deal with abuse. As a reader I wanted so bad to go in and pull her through the pages to safety. But lucky for me there was Garrett who walked right in and took her to safety. Garrett has his own issues learning to deal with wounds not only of the body but of the mind. It is bad enough when a solider comes home broken but to have to deal with losing a leg really put him in a dark time in his life. He finally decided it was time to stand up and make a stand put his wants and needs first. To get back the man he used to be the strong, dependable and very manly person that has no trouble taking things on the chin. It isn’t going to be easy but he has his mind set and ready to take on the challenge head on.

I found myself yelling, cheering and demanding as each new scene come to light. At times I wanted to shake them and ask them what the heck they were doing. Other times I smiled big and was so proud of them they became my friends and family. I felt like I was a part of their world it was so very easy to get lost in these pages. I was so drawn into the story that I felt very much a part of it. I really loved this author writing style she has a way of pulling the read in holding you spellbound. I highly recommend you pick this book up and give it a read. I have not read the first book in this series but do plan on picking it up. I can hardly wait to see what she has in store for me.

This was a really good book, and really did a deep dive into the life of someone who's being mentally abused. Patricia D. Eddy did a really good job connecting her audience to her characters, especially Lilah, and how she was feeling and the emotions she went through, even towards the end of the book when she was trying to move on with her life.

We meet Lilah, who is in an abusive relationship, constantly gets verbally abused and belittled, but she stays with Danny because she thinks she has nothing and is nobody without him. Danny chose the right bar on the right night to get drunk in. Lilah came to pick up Danny and take him home, and meets Garrett, the bartender. Garrett was a disabled veteran and instantly can sense that something is off about their relationship and fears for Lilah's safety. Garrett befriends Lilah (while also secretly holding a torch for her, as he thinks she's the most beautiful woman he's ever seen).

Garrett tries to help Lilah to see that she needs to leave Danny, and is there for her when Danny does attack her. Garrett is just what she needs after she ends up in the ICU. He gives her time and space to recover from her injuries, get help and ultimately learn to start over and be the Lilah she was before she started to date Danny. Several months after Lilah's accident, she happens to go into the right bar, at the right time (which happens to be Garrett's new bar) and they instantly connect again and catch up with each other. They learn to depend on each other, face their fears together, battle the hard days with each other and lean on the other.

Their love story is so well written and very touching, there were times where I teared up, and Garrett was so patient with Lilah and never waivered from her. Garrett is the ultimate hero in my eyes, from his time in the war, and with his handling of Lilah and her past trauma and Lilah is a survivor who never gives up on her dream and is a fighter until the end of the book.

Lilah is stuck in a horrible relationship. She feels she has to stay because she can't make it on her own. She's fragile, but has a core of steel. She doesn't always let it out, but when she does it serves her well. She has a dream of being of writer. Garret is an Iraqi veteran who lost part of his leg. He is a strong, loving, caring man who stands up for those in need of help. He is working towards his dream of opening his own bar. When Garret meets Lilah by chance he loses his heart to her. They have a lot of hurdles to overcome, internal and external, but once they find love they fight to keep it.

Lilah is an amazing character, you love her, you root for her and your heart breaks for her when she is hurt and abused. You want so badly for her life to be better, for her to feel safe and loved. When she finally lets go of, most, of her fear and let's Garret in her life changes wonderfully for the better. When she is once again threatened, and lets the fear back in pushing Garret away, it takes love and forgiveness from both of them to hold on to the love and life they have.

Garret is incredible. He lost part of a leg but still had a humorous, caring, loving, protective personality. He was someone you would want in your life as a friend and a lover. Loyal, protective, caring Garret. He has found incredible ways to cope, my favorite was his tattoos. They are uplifting, creative and fit Garret incredibly well. Garret is strong, brave and intensely loving. Once you mean something to him, he will go to the wall for you.

The main theme running through this book is hold fast to your dreams. Never give up on them, they are part of who you are. Both Lilah and Garret have dreams, and somewhat of a rocky road to them, but once they achieve them their lives, both together and separate, improve drastically for the better

Eddy's work is emotional, romantic and heartfelt. Once you read one of her books you want to read more.

Lilah has been trapped in a relationship for a few years, cut off from friends and avenues of escape to make it on her own, beat down mentally and emotionally by the boyfriend into believing she’s talentless, useless and can’t support herself. When things boil over into violence and leave Lilah in ICU, Garrett takes care of things for her seeing to it she has the help she needs to heal and find herself after all she’s been through. Months later they meet again by chance and the attraction is there still and she’s in a much healthier place mentally and emotionally than she was before and a relationship begins.
Their relationship is not an easy one as they deal with the emotional scars both have and when danger strikes and triggers Lilah all bets are off on whether they’ll get their HEA.
As someone who has lived through an abusive relationship: verbal, mental, emotional, physical and more, this was dealt with very realistically and very well. This is a very emotional, intense, painful, beautiful, moving story that comes alive and pulls you into it. I was quickly caught up in the story and involved and rooting for them all the way. I really felt for Lilah and all she went through. Excellent read with possible triggers for those of us who’ve been in abusive relationships and domestic violence situations. I wasn’t triggered while reading this, I just really strongly felt for the heroine and was by her side all the way through.

Garrett is minding the bar as and Danny Brogan was at it again, drunk as usual. Garrett cut him off and made the ultimatum that he call for a ride or he would call a cab. The bouncer had to get involved, but Danny finally called someone. When she walked in, Garrett couldn't believe that sweet thing was here to pick up the most obnoxious drunk Garrett knew. In other circumstances, he would ask her out, but until Danny was out of the picture, that was out of the question. But he couldn't get her out of his mind.

Lilah was used to Danny telling her what to do, it was her lot in life or so she thought. He had never hit her even if he was never nice to her and after she lost the baby, she figured this is what she deserved. He had worn her down until she believe what he told her. At least until she met Garrett. He was the first person to let her know that she mattered. That made a difference to her, at least she mattered to someone. She was planning on leaving Danny as soon as she could save up enough money to get a place of her own, but for now, this would have to do.

One fateful night everything comes to a head and Danny lashes out at Lilah almost killing her. If Garrett hadn't been there, to help out, he might have succeeded. Can these two get past the demons and find their way to each other or will the past get in the way?
