The pale is failing. There are no safe havens. Someone is breaking the rules. After the outriders return with the unlightable lamp, the inkeepers shift their attention to the unfoldable map. The map is hidden in the distant town of Stinley - where no one is allowed. As the prince's power increases, new threats stalk the Fourtlands, and Carys is injured while on patrol. Varrick continues to evade the Orldics who hunt him, but the kingsfolk will suffer until he yields to the warlords he used to serve. While the sanguinambit weakens, Paxton battles his increasing need to cross the pale and protect his friends. But how much longer can Pax resist leaving the castle - especially when Pearl is asked to join the search for the unfoldable map? The third book in the By Eyes Unseen series, Response raises the stakes for its heroes when they are forced to face their fears and confront their pasts in the most unlikely of places.

The 3rd book in this series did not disappoint me. I love the ongoing development of the characters, and seeing them grow into themselves through out their experiences. I can't wait to read more about Pearl and Paxton and all the rest.
