The Mystery Inc. crew are at the beach. Velma, Daphne and Fred are working on a sandcastle while Shaggy and Scooby are doing their favourtite thing, eating. The pair run out of food so go off to get some more. When they get back to the beach they discover both thier friends and the sand castle are gone. As well most of the other beachgoers are all of a sudden running away from the area. To make matters worse they notice out on the wave what appears to be a sea monster of some sort. Of course, this being Scooby-Doo there will an expalnation for all of this. The one problem that will be left is that while they were chasing a sea monster their food got swept out to sea. That problem can be solved with another trip to the Snack Shack. This is a level two reader so intended for Kindegarten to Grade 2 readers, and of course all fans of Scooby-doo. Happy reading.

Got this book from our local library after my eldest daughter picked a stack of Scooby books. First off, very readable — especially for preschool readers — and enjoyable for parents who love to read aloud (like me)! The premise and journey of this whole book is a lot of fun. We ride with Scooby and Shaggy - as we do in another title by this same author - through a misunderstanding. Like with a previous review by the same author in this same series, I understand the choice to make this more of a side story instead of the traditional “mystery” in which we find our heroes — but I think there could have been more done, hence the 3 stars. Overall, though, great book! Highly recommend for any Scooby family or fan!

Excited about spending a day at the beach Scooby-Doo and the gang have their beach toys, blanket, and books packed and of course Shaggy and Scooby have the snacks ready to go. After eating all the food, while Velma, Daphney, and Fred build a sand castle, Shaggy and Scooby must go to the snack shack to get some lunch for the others. Excited about going to get more food the two set off, but when they return they realize that not only is everyone "running for their lives," but the gang is gone too and out in the ocean is a sea monster! Not sure what to do Shaggy and Scooby must now find the others and make sure they don't get eaten by the monster.

I love Scooby-Doo books and this one is no exception. This book would be great in a classroom when introducing the concept of a mystery book. The book is short and easy to read and follow along which would allow the children time to think about what they are hearing and seeing in the bold and eye capturing pictures.

This is a fairly typical book for the Scooby-Doo! Readers series. The story is short, easily solved, not too scary and has fairly basic vocabulary, which is good for young readers. We all love Scooby Doo, so these books are a particular favorite at storytime.

March 2022 update: I purchased a 12-book set (the Scooby-Doo! Read & Solve series) and read each one again.
