A mutilated corpse dressed as a bride, a psychopathic killer hell-bent on furthering his macabre game, and a woman detective who stands by her instincts.
When a woman disappears from a motorway service station, DI Charlie Lambert struggles to make any headway finding her. Missing person specialist DI Tanya Miller is called in to take over the investigation, but when it becomes a murder inquiry, she too is threatened with replacement.
With a suspected serial killer on the loose, DI Miller must quickly muster her ad hoc team into action. But suspicions about the outsider are rife, and any delay might end in disaster. Is the young detective, woman in a man’s world, up to the task?
After the missing woman’s body is found, mutilated and dressed in a wedding gown, the investigation closes in on the missing woman’s husband. He was certainly present at the time of her disappearance and had a possible motive. But following her instincts, Miller is not so sure. And when another woman goes missing, she takes the matter personally.
Will Miller find the perpetrator before he strikes again?
Based in Oxfordshire and the Midlands this detective murder mystery is set in the heart of England. If you enjoy crime fiction with plenty of twists and full of suspense, BROKEN ANGEL is for you.
A woman disappears from a service station. Later, her mutilated body is found, dressed as a bride. Police initially suspect the boyfriend, but when another woman goes missing under similar circumstances, it becomes clear that they are dealing with a callous serial killer.
Broken Angel is a fast-paced, well-written and suspenseful murder mystery with decent amount of twists and turns.
This book is a 3.5 rating was good but not great, didn't connect with tanya liked Charlie's character. Women go missing from service station but not many clues to catch the person behind it will they catch the culprit on time.
Another top-notch thriller from Diane Dickson. When a woman disappears from the services station on the motorway, the police are called in to investigate. What seems like a simple case of an angry girlfriend storming off, quickly turns into something much more sinister. Another woman, similar in appearance to the first vanishes and a body is discovered in a churchyard. With DI Tanya Miller leading the investigation, it soon becomes clear that the killer is on a mission and with a third woman missing, time is running out. This is a race against time, fast-paced thriller that continues to gather speed until the final page. DI Miller is a refreshingly human police officer (with an addiction to online shopping) striving to not only solve the case, but save a young woman before it’s too late. I particularly enjoyed the attention to detail as DI Miller and her team piece together the threads of this baffling case. A fascinating and beautifully written crime drama with authentic characters and attention to detail. Crime/thriller fans won’t be disappointed.
Could have stayed up all night to finish it but common sense took over and I spread it out a bit. Excellent story Diane and very well written indeed, kept me glued from the first chapter. I think you could very well do a sequel. Keep up the good standard.
I enjoyed this though too many silly mistakes, mostly punctuation issues, let it down for me. I think this has been the problem for all her books I've read. I'll stick with the series but do wish she'd sort out a decent editor or find a pal who's good at proofreading to give her books a look-over before publication. There were missed speechmarks, question marks and fullstops, too many sentences lost commas where they're needed and in others she puts them where they're not required !! She persistently left the apostrophe off when she wrote ladies' and wrote discrete and not discreet more than once, then Google earth was another repeated error, where she didn't capitalise Earth. Same with Station road where Road also needed capitalising. Print out needs a hyphen, as does hands free and hold all, too. I did like the line...."Sometimes you just know" that she put in at some very apt parts. I got pretty annoyed with Charlie's fussing over his wife-she'd only had a baby !! It's not like she had a terminal illness !! I liked Tanya and look forward to reading more of the series and hope she gets to stick with this same team and that Charlie also decides to stay around as well. I finished and THEN she has a List of Characters !! A bit late, then....this should be at the beginning, though I don't think we really needed it at all, to be honest. But it is pretty useless AFTER we've read the book, to be honest !
Tidy story with a brittle female Detective Inspector (with a sterile personal life) paired with a new dad Inspector, as a serial killer stalks young women, leaving their gown-clad bodies in bucolic settings. Solving this one might give Detective Inspector Tanya Miller the answer to a mystery that’s haunted her for years.
I don't usually read crime fiction, but I'll make an exception for Diane Dickson everytime. I suppose it's due to the characters and their interactions. I'd love to see someone turn this into a TV series, it would be perfect.
Exciting, unpredictable, and full of tension. Diane Dickson's reliable writing introduces us to more complex characters and some thrilling plot twists. I couldn't put this down, and the ending lingered with me long after finishing it.
New to this author, I downloaded this a while ago and forgot what it was about so when I started reading I thought it was about DI charlie so was shocked when DI Tanya Miller took over (I guess he might have his own series?) When I first got into reading I was loving murder mystery but lately I'm more supernatural (as there is only so many dead body's in allys you can read) plus supernatural comes with its own mystery but sometimes I go back and read a murder mystery series. But this has something missing Tanya was not likeable (it's ok to be gruff with people but you still need to see more) even in the TV series House he was not kind but you still liked him.her gruff needed to be kind of funny.(specially for a women or she just comes across bitchy) Not sure why she sent back that order? Was it because it's for when he is older but she thought she wouldn't see him? To be honest now my favourite character is gone I don't want to read on.
This is a very well written book full of twists and turns. Just when Charlie starts climbing the ladder in his career, he's thrown for a loop when his boss brings in another person who specializes in finding missing people. Sara is the first woman who has gone missing. Her boyfriend is beside himself with guilt and fear as he takes out his feelings towards the cops on Facebook. When Sara is found dead and wearing a wedding dress another woman is missing. Millie and her friend have just came back from France and waiting for her friends brother to pick them up. Will they find her in time? Get this book. You won't have time to be bored. It's a page turner. I couldn't put it down!
This is the first book in this series with DI Tanya Miller and her team; I recommend it. I love UK police procedural series, and this one looks like it will be a good one. DI Charlie Lambert was also in this book, and if he isn't the lead investigator in his own series already, I hope she writes a series that centers on him.
Newly promoted DI Charlie Lambert first case is that of a missing female. When he and his team make no progress, a missing person specialist DI Tanya Miller is called in. But then another female goes missing and a body is found. An interesting well-written crime story though I didn't find Miller to be that likeable.
Great mystery! Who's killing women & dressing them as angels? Three young woman have gone missing by someone who is posing as a police officer. Tanya is brought in to help the team figure out who is behind this. Story is written well & the characters were great. I will be reading more in the books about Policewoman,Tanya.
The story wasn't much of a mystery to me. Once the killer was brought in the story. I knew it was him. As to the why now that I did have to wait for. I felt as though the story drug on to long to get to the end. Could have had more action with twists and turns and it would have been more entertainment for me.
This tale showed how Tanta Miller will cope and move forward in her role with her new team. It was interesting to see how she developed and how she managed the difficult situation with Charlie. With Charlie deciding to look for other roles, her new team will no longer have conflict with her and Charlie and their loyalties. Enjoyable read.
This is the first in the series and I thought it was good. I started off looking tanya but then she just started to get slightly irritating. Only slightly though. Getting to know the character so I was trying to think she might grow on me. The story is good. Back ground story is good. The main character not so much.
Excellent book, very clear descriptions of police procedure. It zips along quite nicely. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and look forward to more of Miss Dickson's work.
'Broken Angel' pretty much took me by surprise. Once I started reading, I had a hard time putting it down. Well written and well played out. Great characters, creative scenarios and quite thrilling. I look forward to reading more. A great add to your tbr list.
Our "hero", against all rules, goes into the final showdown without support. Twice. I'm already tired of books like this. If I had known in advance, I could have saved some time.
I liked the cover of this book so thought I would read it & was not disappointed... Enjoyed it very much ... Will have to check out the rest of her books ..
A really good read great characters, who slowly grow the more you read, marvellous plot believable keeping you guessing and turning the pages to the very end
