A siren who's terrified of the ocean...with a destiny that involves a hunky shirtless dude.
Ever meet a mermaid terrified of the ocean? The closest I get to saltwater is in my bath.
As for singing? My siren heritage left me with a killer voice. Literally. Some people can charm animals out of trees. Me? They jump to their deaths rather than listen to another note.
I know I’m different. And I’m cool with it. What I’m not cool with is the meathead who decides that he’s my fated mate. Just because he’s tall, handsome, and muscle-bound doesn’t mean I’m going to fall into bed with him. We might do it standing upright first.
Don’t judge. I deserve a little fun, especially since I think my time on Earth is limited.
The nightmares are getting stronger. The mood swings nastier. The ocean is calling, but I don’t think it wants to give me a gentle embrace.
Can a misfit who doesn’t belong anywhere find a way to survive the future—and maybe even fall in love?
Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
2nd in the Misfit series. Can be read without having read the first book because there is a LOT of backstory in this one. Mostly the first third of the pages are herstory and explaining but it moves quickly and gives a good sense of who Lana is and when she first met Jory.
Lots of humor. Strong snark and personality of both Lana and Jory. Amusing and wonderful. The lesson for Lana: be the one you’re meant to be.
Excerpt of typical humor: “The kraken saw him coming and let out a sound, kind of like Bjorn the last time his wife had caught a barmaid stroking his beard before she dragged him out of the pub by the ear.” Excerpt From Siren Misfit by Eve Langlais
Read the first book before reading this one.Half of the book I felt lost what's going on because it referenced the first book heavily. Overall it was okay. 2,9/5 stars
I loved the story. Lana's sarcasm and Jory's cheeky self-assurance was a great combination to make reading an incredible fun time. It was dangerous and stony the way for Lana to find the truth of his origin but he succeeded and in the process found the love that he never expected
Y’a… the idea is there. But I felt like a tween girl was recanting a story.
I didn’t read the first one and I didn’t really feel like I was missing too much to not be able to get through this book.
I suppose the verbiage is supposed to do something for the story but if it wasn’t a quick 2-3 hour read, it would have been a DNF for me on that alone. I didn’t like the voice of the book, young teenager style, for both of them. It was jumpy in parts, sort of letting you assume how things happened without describing every detail.
The idea is good; how did Lana come to be when neither her ancestors have males of their kind. Jory was, meh, a male space filler to get some smut scenes in there. I don’t understand the need to “do it” while in the middle of a trap/sketchy moment of the story. But hey, maybe danger gets them excited. I dunno.
Felt like each sort of scene change, plot advancement, made me say “oh, have we moved on? ….oh ok we’ve moved on”. Wasn’t as fluid or smooth as I prefer to read.
Possible spoilers further down.
I mean it.
Hinting at the end here folks.
Mind your spoiler self, don’t proceed.
Ok.
You agreed to this.
First. The prophecy that was completed and then just never really spoken about or celebrated at all. Not entirely sure what that was about but I didn’t read the first book so no complaints I guess.
The entire 197 pages for her to speak with the sirens and get her memories from fertilization to current back… seems… long winded.
But…. Ugh that ending. This complaint is entirely personal choice…
But
My least favourite epilogue trope; the pregnancy. Ugh. Be warned! While it was written in a way that MAY align with the “plot” of the book, I’m not sure how she’s supposed to make good on her promise and finding her parents when she’s pregnant. But also, the next book is based another person who isn’t even in the same country anymore?
This was a quick listen, I think less than 4 hours on regular speed. This one starts out with a kidnapping and rescue that goes awry, sort of. She meets Jory during this rescue. At this point we also get the back story from the Hybrid Misfit so you can read this one as a stand alone. Turns out her best friend is a queen, kind of. Anyway it’s a little confusing what with them splicing mermaid and siren genes; bunny and werewolf; angel and demon genes to make these hybrids. But the romance isn’t confusing at all. He wants her, and she isn’t into a relationship right now, she wants to know about her heritage and why her hair keeps getting greener to the point hair dye can’t cover it up. In the end, she discovers her heritage, but it leaves her with more questions than answers, but allows her to open her heart to Jory so they might get their HEA. Also, it comes at a good point when she really could use a protector, as it seems folks may be after the misfits.
As usual Eve delivers the funny, sad, and happy HEA we all have come to expect from her. The good news is it is totally different than all the others she’s written. My only complaint is I really felt this one was too short. Although there is a HEA, there is still a bit of a cliffhanger about who created these hybrids.
Poor Lana! Half siren, half mermaid, and deathly afraid of the ocean! Her salt water tub soaks are as close as she can get to soothing herself, but still the briny deep seems to call her to her death. Her nightmares are getting worse, so when a message arrives from the Sirens wanting to meet with her, she has to overcome her fears to go to them.
After the battle in Limbo, Lana now has a new admirer in Valhalla warrior, Jory. Not that she has any interest in the hunky man who beats down her door yelling at her to “fix him”. She needs to figure out how to fix herself, and the Sirens may be able to help. Lord knows those Mermaids were no help to her before!
Jory finds himself inexplicably drawn to Lana, despite her prickly nature, and refusal to fall at his feet. He’s determined to help her figure out her story, and get the answers she needs. And if there are battles with sea monsters along the way, so much the better! And being rewarded with kisses from Lana? Perfect.
Book two of the Misfits series was really enjoyable, and I look forward to Bunny Misfit with Claire’s story. Eve Langlais is a master of world building, and submerging the reader into the story. It is helpful to read book one (Hybrid Misfit) to get the back story and flow, but it isn’t essential to enjoy Siren Misfit. Definitely a raucous good time!
Lana is half siren, half mermaid but absolutely terrified of the water. So terrified that the bathtub is the biggest body of water she ever comes near. Also, she's got a singing voice that kills things and the problems with her mermaid half are getting worse after the events in the first novel. When a brash viking ( and not just A viking) comes into her life everything changes.
Pro's: + Just as Beth in the first entry, Lana is a fierce character. Even though she has some voice problems and issues with het mermaid part, she is there for her friends. + The romance in this enty is very well written. No love at the first sight for Lana, as she thinks that Jory is just a bit too arrogant about his own abilities. But when Lana has the change to find out more about herself, Jory will not let her go alone. + The underlying story is one of conquering your fears and finding out that sometimes it is not as bad as you might think.
Con's: - If there wasn't a third entry, the ending would be kind of sudden.
I liked this one just as much as the first entry. Lana is one cool lady and this story is really a continuation of the first book. When lana conquered her fear of the ocean I was so happy for her. The cliffhanger urges me to read the third entry too ( right now!).

Heather's Notes I really wish that Lana had been a little more bad ass. I don't feel she every really came into her own. She wasn't bad, just really annoying. Jory on the other hand was a bit awesome. I really liked him.
Sometimes I feel like every time I pick up a new Langlais book I think “ooh, this one is my favorite now!” That’s at least true for The Misfits. I picked up Hybrid Misfit before I dug into this one, and both were fantastic. Langlais explores the idea of experimentation and identity, and Siren Misfit dives even deeper to look at family and belonging. Lana, the half-siren, half-mermaid, doesn’t know how someone like her can exist. Sirens live on land, mermaids in the water. But she’s not about to get any new information as long as the only living sirens refuse to talk to her, and her fear of the ocean keeps her away from meeting her mermaid kin. Enter Jory, who seems like the kind of guy who has never had a thought of self-doubt in his life until the Siren Misfit rejects him. The two of them go on an adventure in this book that will help Lana find answers and face her fears, while they both fall for each other.
We read this book for episode 71 of our podcast. We return to the Misfit Series by Eve Langlais. This is the second book and focuses on the romance between part siren part mermaid Lana and demigod Jory. Initially there is not much to bring these two together, beyond their love of donuts and coffee. But things heat up as Jory accompanies Lana to discover more about her mysterious origins. We can’t get enough of the hot oral action Jory bestows upon Lana. The plane scene goes from super hot to super scary when a kraken appears! While this was not our favorite book by Eve or even favorite of the Misfit books it was still fun. Eve’s trademarked humor is sprinkled throughout and it ends with more donuts, coffee, and cunnilingus, who could complain! For more of our thoughts, listen to episode 71 of Shhh We’re Reading Dirty Books found on any podcast platform!
Absolutely entertaining addition to this series by Eve LANGAIS. This second book brings more information about how, what, where and who that started in the first book Hybrid Misfit. It gives more light on Lana and her circumstances that make her a misfit because she's still in the dark about many unanswered questions that led her to being the way she is or isn't. You're going to enjoy the craziness and by play between her and Joey plus the surprises as you read! I'm sure going to recommend that you check out this whole series and enjoy it along with me!💟💟💟💟💟
A unique and entertaining story! As with all Eve Langlais books, there is a constant thread of humor and witty banter throughout this series that keeps you addicted to the characters and the stories. Lana meets Jory during the battle between good and evil, light and dark, and she is not impressed with the Barbarian, who turns out to be more than he seemed to be, and that’s saying a lot since Lana is part Kraken and part Mermaid, either way, a deadly combination when added to her intense caffeine and donut addiction. This one starts off with Beth’s story leaves us, and although it’s part of a series, you could still read it on its own, but why would you?
These two were a perfect case of opposites attract! They also had ridiculous chemistry and had the good sense to only make a token effort at denying themselves that part. The other part, all those feelings, they decided to ignore and pretend that just wasn’t there. Until they absolutely had no choice but to accept them. And I knew it!!! I made the guess of the possible big reveal, at least part of it, before everyone else sprung to that conclusion. A little bit of fun, partially on the edge, and lots of adventure, away from the sea if possible, made this a great listen 😊
Lana is both a siren and mermaid and she has no idea who her parents are. She meets Conan (his real name is Jory) during a battle in Limbo. Somehow, Jory now becomes Lana and Claire's third roommate since Beth is now ruling Limbo. Lana appears to despise Jory, hence the name Conan. Lana receives a mysterious message supposedly from one of the last three remaining sirens. That's when the real adventure begins for Lana and Jory. At the end, they find their happily ever after and a couple of surprises also!
I forgot how much I love Eve Langlais. I took a break from her books for awhile but came back to finish the misfit series. I listed to this on audible and I think I mainly got annoyed with the narrator because her voice isn’t that pleasing to me but Im so glad I did. This book is sooo good. I like it more than the first book. It can be read as a standalone in my opinion only because it starts from the last few chapters of the previous book. the snark is *chefs kiss* and Ive always been a fan of mermaids AND sirens. A definite must read
Even though I enjoyed this book I felt like it was lacking something. The first book in the series was amazing had plenty of action which kept you hooked from beginning to end. I also felt like this story was way too short even though we get a HEA, there was still kinda of a cliffhanger feel to it especially on who created the hybrids. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series.
Love these misfit books. What do you get when you have a half breed mermaid and siren, you get Lana, who is scared of the water and whose singing can and has killed. Jory the Viking half god half Valkyrie falls hard and fast but before they can have their happily ever after they have to figure out who is trying to kill her and why. This book was full of humor, Lana's rejections of Jory's advances are particularly funny but when she finally gives in it is hot, steamy and a wild ride.
This is such an interesting sequel. Lana was a fascinating character in Hybrid Misfit and I loved exploring her fears and dual natures in this book. There's so much mystery to her, and even a few questions still left to answer in more books. Jory was a great character too, he really complimented Lana and even had a few surprises of his own. I also love the mythology in this sequel! The crossover mix of Norse, Greek, and Roman deities is so much fun to read.
I LOVED hybrid misfit, and Siren Misfit was just as awesome. Jory and Lana are both so hardheaded, stubborn, and snarky; together they’re a hilarious, sexy, badass team. The storyline was intense and unique, grabbing hold of my attention and sucking me in until the final page. Definite 5 stars, can’t wait for Claire’s story!
A great, fun and crazy story of a misfit mermaid/siren, named Lana, who finds a sexy son of a God, named Jory, during a battle in Limbo. On the way to meet other sirens who live on an island, all hell breaks loose and these two must fight for their survival. Love it !!💘
Really enjoyed this and it only keeps getting better. Eve Langlais has been one of my favorite writers for a long time now and this book as well as Hybrid Misfit have not changed that judgement. Every time I read her books, her strong, but imperfect, heroines and humor dictate that I just cannot put them down and usually leave me hungry for more
Hmm, so the plot thickens...this time with Lana in the middle of things, with her meathead Jory (snicker). Enjoyed how Jory handles Lana. Too bad they weren't able to find her real parents yet...that seems to be Claire's task. At any rate, hehehe, they get the HEA after a few adventures.
Am reading the next book in 5...4...3....2....1....

Lana's story is one that you won't soon forget, so many revelations lead to more unanswered questions. Meeting Jory is a definite bright spot in her cloudy life and he helps in her quest for finding out about her parentage. Quirky with lots of adventure and steamy times makes this a don't want to put down read. So many interesting friends and odd "maybe" relatives to must read on to know more!
Mythical creatures are a favorite of mine, so this book is a gem. Any time you can find a way to combine mythical creatures and give them even more power than they should makes for an even better story. Throw in a hunky viking hero, and a bit of a mystery, and you have Siren Misfit.
I really enjoyed this story, and I am very anxious to read more in this series.
Really liked it! A woman who accepts who she is to a point loves her doughnuts, coffee, and sex! The man (loose term) is way more than he seems, like she's more than she seems. Although he doesn't know how powerful and complete she is. He doesn't understand the pull she has on him. A battle, a realisation, and a happy bond Steamy smut so hot it curls toes.
After reading the first book in this series, I knew that reading the second was a major option. Fun stuff and an interesting concept. Ready for the next book in this series!😀
Fabulous characters that follow through out the series! Wonderful plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series.
Loved the characters and the storyline and couldn't put it down so it's a well deserved five stars and I would recommend this book to everyone can't wait for more in this series
Good read I have amazon unlimited which means I don’t have to buy books for a good read. However if late the sample reads for those books leave much to be desired. This one however caught me from the word go.
