In 2002, Mark Vincent, onetime senior special agent, ran into John, a troubled little boy, at a local McDonald’s. Concerned, although it wasn’t his business, he gave the kid his business card and left.
Three years later, Mark is director of his department at the WBIS and married to Quinton Mann, the former CIA spook who now writes spy novels. They’ve settled into a life of quiet domesticity and are even considering adopting a cat.
All this changes when John, now using another name, barrels into Mark’s life with a secret no one expects and on the run from an organization that wants him despite the collateral damage.
What will Mark, the man known as “the best” in the intelligence community, do when he learns what this secret is? Will it affect his relationship with Quinn? And how complicated are things going to get when they decide to get involved?

It took me a few days to get myself together to write a review for this book. What can I say, but I LOVED it. Mark and Quinn are one of my all time couples, and that's saying something for anyone who can see my GRS feed. I haven't even added the books before I joined. It was amazing to see all the plot gems that came together in this book. The little boy Mark met at McDonalds, and his missing memory of that one night. I was surprised and saddened when I came to like some characters that were not huge characters in the other books... Delilah being the main one. I grew to like and respect her a great deal. Don't get me started about Jeanette, or I might tear up. Joe was an absolute delight, but I expected nothing less! I was kind of surprised by the somewhat science fiction-esque plot, but I rolled with it. My only disappointment was I would've liked to see a little more into the future. I'm very interested to see how Joe gets along with his genius IQ. I was so happy to see some side characters from her other books too. I hope we get another book, and we delve even more into the complicated and often hilarious/dangerous lives of these two beloved characters.

Good heavens, what a windup of the story arc that has covered so many books! I’m still hoping it’s not the end of Mark and Quinn adventures. If you haven’t read this long complex series, it begins with the Spy vs. Spook series, then The Light in Your Eyes duo, Mann of My Dreams 1-3; then The Best Laid Plans, In His Line of Work, then 4 & 5 of Mann of My Dreams. I know, it sounds like a lot but it’s such a fun and absorbing series, unlike anything I’ve ever read in the genre. Mark Vincent is the best secret agent/assassin character ever, his romance with Quinn is passionate and exciting and the plots fantastically entertaining. There’s also lots of sidebar stories and other books with related and secondary characters that appear through the series. I will admit to losing track of a few details from earlier events referenced in this story but the main plot hangs together well.

Tinnean’s signature writing style was present with just a very few overlapping scenes from Mark & Quinn’s separate POV’s. I love getting their separate thoughts and observations of each other during the same scene. I think it’s part of what’s made me fall in love so hard with these two and kept me so loyal to this lengthy tale. None of the stories end on cliffhangers, always having a complete ending. Now I’m going to go back and read the whole list for the umpteenth time because these are my comfort reads, that I will never, ever tire of reading.

Mark and Quinn. Sigh. I love these guys.

Tinnean is an author that has a style that isn't for everyone and in fact, the writing style isn't even for every book Tinnean has written. Some of them just fall apart with the the type of storytelling the author does. But the Spy vs Spook and the Man of My Dreams series' are particularly suited to the way the author does tell stories.

As a reader there is a lot of head hopping. Lots of characters get to have their say and perspectives shown. Sometimes the scenes are seen from two different perspectives in their entirety. Many of the scenes are random scenes that seem like they must mean something....but they really don't. They are just slice of life vignettes that don't move the plot or story forward but it's all part of the way Mark and Quinn think of each other and the romance in their actions.

So, when you are wondering why we are wandering around a gift shop while Quinn picks out gifts for his mom, her companion and Mark...and you're thinking, wow, he's probably going to come across something that will be important to the story later or think we must be waiting for the other shoe to drop....nope. Just a slice of daily life.

There are also always an unbelievable amount of coincidences and overlapping acquaintances in these books. And with the head hopping, half the time I wonder if I've missed books or stories because it seems like I should know a backstory...like Granger, Parker and Ms. Dinois or Melody Rayne and Sanchez or Deuce and Trig or Jackson and Tom. Did I miss those books? IDK. I'll have to research.

All of that aside, with this tale, we have a bit of an over the top villain and more coincidences that takes a lot of deliberate suspension of disbelief. I'm willing to do that for Mark and Quinn. (I don't offer that to just any characters, I have to really love them). This seems to actually end on a high note but I hope this is not the end of our journey with Mark and Quinn.

But even though the writing style has its quirks, or maybe because of it, I love these guys. I devour their story and I love to be a part of their circle.

Another Great Addition to a Great Series

My only problem with this book (Like I have with all the books in this series) is that now I’ve finished it, I want more !!!!

After reading Tinnean’s work for years, I feel I know her characters, what they think, and how they would react to the situations that happen. Then the next book comes out and I find that they end up doing what I wouldn’t have expected, but totally within their personalities. (What a great way to keep your long time readers excited)

A great addition to the WBIS World already built, answering sevaral questions that have floated in my head over the series (While adding one or two more). Also seeing the slight changing of personalities as one grows older and becomes part of a couple, but still staying true to themselves. Mark and Quinn are still Mark and Quinn, but you see the progression of their lives and how they grow closer to each other.

I hope that Tinnean never gets tired of writing in this world.... Because I will never get tired of reading about it.

*This review contains spoilers. They will be clearly marked.*

*Also, it got really long. Sorry. It basically boils down to: if you enjoyed the other books in this series, then DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. Just... don't do it.*

Let me start by saying that I absolutely adored both Spy vs. Spook and every previous Mann of My Dreams novel. Mark and Quinn are some of my favorite characters, and I have read the series more than once. Up until now, my only complaints were having to read everything twice from each point of view and how unbelievable it was that they had so little trouble getting that much time off of work.

And then I started reading Complications.

It started when I had to open up the blurb on goodreads to make sure I was actually reading the correct book. I'm not opposed to Point of View changes, and in fact had enjoyed getting to see both Quinn's and Mark's POVs. But this was a brand new point of view from a new, unknown character with no warning, not to mention the massive time jump. It wasn't my favorite beginning, but it was easily overlooked.

From there, though, we stayed with this character for the entire first QUARTER of the book! I appreciate that there was A LOT of information within that section, but it was quite honestly far too much information. We did not need that much detail of those six years, and a vaguer explanation would have been far more believable -

Finally, FINALLY, we get to our leading men. And from there, you had better be damned good at suspending belief. Supernaturally good at it, really. Now, my favourite MM genre includes everything police/spy/military. I am no stranger to suspending my belief. However, I had an easier time believing a talking unicorn as a staple of a royal castle than I did just about ANYTHING that happened in this novel. Here is a brief list, because honestly, I could probably site just about every paragraph of this novel as evidence.

Okay. My list turned into more of a rant. I apologize. But here is an actually brief spoiler free list of unbelievable aspects of this story.

Completely connected backgrounds without anybody recognizing the coincidences. Ready made family. The action taking care of itself with very little effort on the part of our main guys. READY MADE FAMILY. I know I said it twice, but seriously? And finally, an evil villain so evil she seems inhuman yet she has the backing of a very wealthy, very prestigious name/family, leaving her untouchable and free to commit her terrible terrible acts, which really? 362? Come on.

I could go on for much longer about how terrible this book truly was. Honestly though, I am just so incredibly disappointed. I LOVED this series. And this book just absolutely ruined it for me. I only hope one day I'll be able to read the other books in this series and just live in happy denial that this book ever existed enough to burn itself into my brain.

My final recommendation: If you enjoy this series and the writing involved, do not, I repeat DO NOT READ THIS BOOK. If you want to see where Mark and Quinn go with their family, just make up some cute story about Kit and/or maybe them finally adopting a child. Something like what I was expecting when I went into this. But DO NOT READ THIS BOOK.

The best of them all! On the edge of my seat the entire book. The plot is so intense, and all those story arc threads from the previous books come together, oh what a tangled web it wove around Mark and Quinn. And I absolutely loved the new key character, John/Joe... A mini Mark! What I want to see next is a spin-off series involving Joe, our little super genius. Some one needs to solve the riddle and find the Confederate gold. Let there be more books!

And here we are, the last book of the series. And for me, it was a few steps up from the disappointment of book four.
The start of the book was somewhat confusing, a bit too long without our men, but I was excited to see reactions and where this would lead.

Here all loose strings are gathered and tied together in a neat bow, and I have to say every time I read something I recognised from the other books I was delighted. It was a like a puzzle I put together while reading.
Although I could plot the story before it was written, I was still enjoying reading it.

Though we never get to know why Deuce carved up the man that was found in Mann manor, there was no reason for it at all.
And as always, I waited eight books and still Quinn never found out Mark was the man he had met on New Years eve. Though there were plenty of hints which he should have picked up on. It may not have been a big thing but it had stuck in my mind because of several hints throughout the series.

There were plenty of repeats which we didn't need. We had Joe's entrance to the house told from two perspective, word for word.
I had expected a more emotional reaction from Quinn, learning Mark had become a father, when Quinn was the one wanting them.
It felt all very easy, when things tend to not be so easy.

I found myself wishing for more action, it built up to it and it fizzed out in the end. I had hoped to see how Mark would handle fatherhood, with little sleep, crying babies and too little time for his husband.

But as the books have been lately, it was a sweet ending and I didn't feel I would have needed an extra book.

This is the last book in this series and it was somewhat of surprise for me. Considering the last three books, I was expecting mellow and sappy story. It did have such elements, but it resembled the book one the most as it brought action and mystery into plot once again. It also managed to scrounge several plot ends mentioned in previous books and brings them to a close in rather surprising and twisty end. The plot is a little over the top, but all its parts are covered and decently explained. It has a truly evil villain emerging from the shadows and Mark and Quinn trying to get a hold of surprise from the past that will bring serious changes in their lives. Quinn takes in all in stride as befitting his moniker of Ice Mann, while Mark has moment of what-the-heck?
It does end on a high note and it’s charming end to the the series!

I received copy of this book in exchange for review.

2.5⭐️

I think I would've done well to have just stopped reading this series at the previous book. Spy Vs.Spook and Mann of my Dreams were one of the best books that I read last year and have already reread them a few times since then. So I was looking forward to reading this book. It was a disappointment for me.

The prequel to this - "You Were Made For Me" was written in a way for it to give a great ending to the story of Mark and Quinton. They were married and were building a life together. This particular storyline read more like a telenovella that one would see on TV than a spy thriller. I get that the author was tying up storylines that were brought up in previous books but I wouldn't even know that needed to be done till they were. I feel the story was a bit rushed and the villain in this book was not worthy. I mean for all of the greatness of WBIS, how did a woman who has no connections to the intelligence community but is rich get access to not just one intelligence officer but two? That too for something so unrelated to anything to do with their jobs?

I am going to do with this book what I did to the 3rd Mummy movie. Act like it doesn't exist and enjoy the rest of the books in this world.

I love this series. I love the quirky way Tinnean writes and this series is a lot of fun. Mark and Quinn are a couple with a solid/concrete relationship and a fun winding road to happiness. I have enjoyed all the books and related books in this series.
While this was not my favorite, it is a favorite series and I enjoy every new entry into the adventures of these men. The trope that is used to present Mark and Quinn with a ready made family was just a little bit out there, but still....love these guys. I really love that they are a firmly established couple, with no drama and all the conflict is external. This is a very favorite type of ongoing storyline, and very very hard to find.
Thanks to Tinnean for another terrific story and I hope there are more books coming to this set of mysteries.

Another good entry in this series. I will say that this book advanced the story much further than I would have expected. It had a high "creep" factor in what was going on. It was almost science fiction like. Of course, I loved the way that Quinn and Mark handled it all. It was a deep look into who they have become together. It also tied a number of characters from past books into this story line which I enjoyed. I have to say, I can't wait to see what is next. I hope their story continues. I want to learn more about Joe and the twins.

Everything comes full circle

I really enjoyed this series. The characters were interesting and made me want to invest in them with the need to find out what was going to happen next. Even though in other books where the point of view changed it was a distraction, this was not the case with this series.
It has a good balance of relationships and drama in the storyline. Although I know a series has to come to an end, it would be great to see what shenanigans the additional characters would get up to 😉.

Be still my heart! I'm so glad there are more books out about Mark and Quinn - if you haven't read the "Spy vs. Spook" series yet, you should (absolutely should) read it before this series.

I also suggest the "Light in Your Eye" series right after the Spy series, before this one. It's about Theo and Matheson and is well worth it.
