When eighteen-year-old Ashleigh Steepleton loses her parents, she has nowhere to turn but to her male cousins, whom she has always looked to as brothers. She goes along with her cousins’ plan to move to California, hoping that life will be better there as her cousins believe it will be. But breaking an axle on their wagon near Creede, Colorado, changes their plans, and they decide to stay and try to earn enough money to finish their journey.
When chef Alexander meets Ashleigh, he is immediately drawn to her, feeling deep down inside that she is the woman who is meant to be his bride. Her cousins don’t approve of the match, though, so he has to keep trying to make it work. Being thwarted at every turn, he wants to give up. Will his love survive long enough to convince her cousins they belong together? Or will she move on to California and leave him with a broken heart?
Ashleigh and Alexanders’s romance finds them not fighting against outside interference but the actions and shenanigans of Ashleigh’s triplet male cousins who seem to think that only they have her best interests at heart… when in reality it’s their own desire to reach California that is at the center of their actions. It doesn’t really help any that Ashleigh’s guardian angel, Ernie, is as grumpy and unclear with his messages as possible.
William, Philip and Gilbert, Ashleigh’s cousins, make an interesting addition to the town of Creede, Colorado. Each one brings a distinctive personality to the mix, and it’s going to be interesting to see the ladies that these gentlemen end up with… or the angels that help their causes. To be frank I really didn’t like one and only tolerated the other two, probably because of their actions against Alexander and Ashleigh. And, yes, I know it was all necessary for the story, yet these three men are going to have to work to gain my affections as well as their intended bride in their own stories… just sayin’.
Capturing the Cook is a fun, delightful story with a puzzle to figure out and interesting characters. I enjoyed my visit to Creede once again and would definitely recommend this story and the entire series to any reader who loves Western Historical Romance.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I’ve tried enjoying this author’s stories in this series, but haven’t had much luck.
Every other sentence ends in an exclamation point. As in her other books. Ashleigh was so annoying and weak. She was a grown woman and yet she allowed her overbearing idiot cousin, William, dictate what she would and wouldn’t do. Philip was almost nonexistent in the story. Gilbert was sweet for the most part, but turned on Ashleigh with little prodding from William. And the hero of the story, Alexander…ugh! He needed to man up and actually TALK to Ashleigh. And last but not least, Ernie, her angel! UGH! I enjoyed all the other angels in this series, but Ernie was never around when she needed him, and barely “helped” Ashleigh.
95%of this book was back and forth about leaving Creede and whatnot. Very, very little romance. And when it was mentioned, it turned almost sexual in nature.
Ashleigh is such a sweet young woman who has suffered through so much loss with her cousins and now all 4 are left alone when their parents passed away. On the way to California they ended up in Creed Colorado. All get jobs. The 3 young men that are triplets in the mines. Ashleigh in the kitchen at Graham's Grubb. She meets Alexander and they are smitten with each other. The cousins are still planning on going to Ca. And taking Ashleigh with them no matter what. This is very exciting. Love it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did..
Alexander and Ashleigh could not seem to get together. Her triplet male cousins are her worst advocates in her desire to be Alexander's wife. Her guardian angel, Ernie is doing his best, but Ashleigh was having trouble believing in him and his recommendations. Although this story was very short it was quite and enjoyable read. Try reading, you will enjoy it too.
Love and meddling never go well together, except in this book! Ashleigh’s cousins have the best intentions, but sometimes things go awry even then. Alexander is such a sweet man.
Loving cousins with good intentions and miscommunication along with an ornery angel all make a great story by Mrs. Osbourne. This series and town grows on you. Wonderful interaction between characters.
Each visit to Creede takes readers on a grand adventure. This is an exciting romance filled with deception and family drama. And of course a slightly brash guardian angel who brings humor and inspiration into the story. Great characters and lots of excitement
I guess it's time to take a break from this series. They are beginning to feel superficial. Something bad happens but after a good cry and some angelic advice everything is better. It is the nature of novella to be short and sweet. I just need to remember that.
The story of Ashleigh and Alexander. Ashleigh works as a cook at Grahams Grub. Her triplet cousins (her only family left) work in the mines at Creed Colorado. I enjoyed reading this story
Alexander/chef at Grahams Grub and Ashleigh I enjoyed reading this sweet and captivating story. The banter between her and Ernie was quite humorous. This story has a satisfying and complete HEA.
