A man who has experience of battling the some of the most dangerous fighting men; the Taliban of Afghanistan.

A wonderful ride with a young Zeb Carter! An early look at the head of The Warriors, Zeb, as he offers himself to high-powered army for a trip to save three soldiers and kill the man responsible for hurting many. Zeb does the job by his own rules, traveling through the mountains of Afghanistan and following his senses while hunting the Taliban. Zeb notes some 'leak' from Washington, as the terrorist he is searching for seems to know that he has been sent there. Being Zeb he shows many sides to himself, 'playing' three different people to the Afghanistans. Can Zeb finish the mission and get safely back to the USA, knowing someone over there is telling the terrorists all his moves? A thrilling read by an author I have come to love since his first book! If you like adventure, military precision, and good trying to be done no matter the cost pick up this book!!
Zeb is a bad ass soldier. Of course it’s probably a ridiculous impossible scenario but sometimes we all want to believe in heroes. We want the good guys to win no matter what. We want the bad guys to get what’s coming. This book is all of that! Thoroughly enjoyed this.
This is a new series by Mr. Patterson that is quite promising. Although it may seem weird for those who are fans of the author’s main series to go back in time when Zeb Carter was a young man and not yet the head of his Warriors Enterprise, this spin off brings us deeper into Zeb’s character and straight into more suspense. Our protagonist in this return to the start is an ex- military who takes a secret rescue missing in Afghanistan and he does that single handed. Extracting three US soldiers from the hands of the Taliban alone is not an easy task. But this kind of challenge is what Zeb does best.
Reading how Zeb, the strategist, and how he goes about doing his task is a hectic read to say the least. This operative is not afraid to die and when he sets out to flush a Taliban warlord off the hills of a very hostile country there is not a minute of inaction. All hell breaks loose and there is a lot of violence as you can imagine. Fast-paced and tension laced ride we are in for from start to finish and the action never stops….who is going to be killed next….
This story may be your typical thriller where we have a mix of action, conspiracies, betrayals and lots of killing but how Mr. Patterson spins his tale is what set this story apart from all the others. “Zeb Carter” is definitely an edge-of-the seat read hard to put down. What a roller coaster ride Zeb gives us through the harsh terrains looking for the missing men while dodging the Taliban but the saga doesn’t end with the death of the insurgents there are those who conspired against him and knew of his covert mission to content with…..
Part of the beginnings of Zeb Carter. Ex military who takes on a rescue mission in Taliban territory single handed. Loads of non stop action from beginning to end with great cast of characters and awesome story line. In my top 3 Zeb Carter reads.
Zen Carter by Ty Patterson was the Barnes & Noble Nook Serial Read for July 2022. It is also the first novel in the Zeb Carter series. This was a very fast, action-packed read. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t my most favorite book ever written and I’m not sure I would pay to read the next in the series. Not because it wasn’t good, but mostly because this genre isn’t my thing. Once a group of Delta Operatives are taken hostage in Afghanistan, Zeb Carter volunteers to go retrieve them…all by himself, of course. Zeb is the master of disguise and ends up taking on 2-3 different identities while in Afghanistan. He uses the different identities to infiltrate the villages and gain intel on the terrorists and drug cartels and ultimately the location of the hostage Delta Operatives. It just so happens that Zeb makes GI Joe look like a chump, Zeb is NEVER outnumbered. By that I mean, he always is…but it doesn’t matter because he takes them all out anyway without breaking a sweat. Somewhere along the way he finds out that the Delta Operatives that were being held hostage are actually dead….side note: I could have sworn there were 5-6 captured Operatives originally, and only 3 bodies were found….but then he said they were all dead. So I guess there were only 3? I am confused. ANYWAY, Zeb decides to take out the head honcho of the terroristic drug gang that had captured and apparently killed the Operatives. Big shocker, he is successful and life goes on. What did I think of it? The novel was jam-packed with action. I did not think some aspects of the characters were well explained….example: what actually happened to his family? It was mentioned briefly that they were killed by terrorists, but that’s all that was said. Also the other US army colonel that was in cahoots with the head honcho drug terrorist guy…..apparently he got tied up in the drug trafficking due to the money involved….which he needed for his daughter…who “needs treatments.” This was explained a little bit more at the very end, but when it was first introduced I was like, “what?” I also think the amazingness that is Zeb is a little exaggerated. I doubt one man could do alllllll of the stuff in the book, BUT there’s movies made like this all the time….so maybe? Haha plus I’m not in the armed forces & never have been….nor have I been to Afghanistan, so maybe that’s why it seems far fetched to me? Either way, if action-packed thrillers in the vein of Jack Reacher is your thing, then this book & series is probably right up your alley & I recommend it!!

Zeb Carter – Zeb Carter Thrillers Series Bk 1 – Written by Ty Patterson Suicide Mission and Zeb Carter is involved with only one outcome!!!!!!
Three US Army soldiers are held hostage by Atash Mohammed, a Taliban warlord in Afghanistan. All efforts to free them have failed. Zeb Carter makes an attempt. He goes undercover to find out where in the Hindu-Kush mountains Mohammed hides, and where he’s keeping the prisoners. When the Taliban come gunning for him, he knows his cover has been blown, and suspects he was set up. In the most hostile terrain in the world, with terrorists and drug traffickers hunting him, he has to undertake what no one has done before - rescue hostages from the clutches of the most vicious killers in the region. Even if he succeeds, there's no guarantee he will be safe. Because those who betrayed him are in Washington. They don't expect him to return. And even if he does, they are ready for him.
What did I like? I have read every book that this author has written, and everyone has only been better than the last one. Zeb Carter is my hero and this book only makes this me love him more. He is a man of principle and honor. It was what made him what he was and how he did the things that he believed in.
What will you like? Well besides Zeb Carter, the action, mystery, excitement, humor, and the unknown. Ty Patterson is a master storyteller that will capture your attention from page one to the final one. The intense emotion and action will make your blood race. The details and descriptions are amazing and will bring you right into the action and the place it took place in. If you have not read any of his works, then you need to! I received this from the author as a member of his ARC team for an honest review with no other compensation.
Zeb Carter is a machine, at least in the figurative sense. In the Warrior series by the same author, Zeb has developed a team of people with certain skills. I've read volumes 1 and 10, both very good. This book is early Zeb Carter, before he became the more advanced machine in the Warrior series. And still, he is a machine even this early in his career.
Tasked with rescuing three US soldiers captured in Afghanistan alone and virtually no support, Carter adapts to the locals as he searches for where the soldiers are being held. Having to fight against the entrenched Taliban mentality provides certain challenges as he goes about his mission.
This is a fun read, or at least entertaining. There's not much in the way of characterization other than to demonstrate the title character's dogged determination and sense of justice. The author had sent to his mailing list a picture of the area he had set much of this in. Bleak, no good area. It did help to give a better sense of what a huge challenge was.
I had set out to find an entertaining spy/adventure series to go to when I just wanted something fun to read. My first attempt, L.T. Ryan’s Noble Beginnings, the first book in his Jack Noble series, was a disaster. Although the book received an overwhelming number of excellent reviews the book was unreadable. The story was completely incoherent and the characters one dimensional. I was getting wary of Amazon’s reviews. How could I rely on the reviews when this book was so horrible? Okay, I’d give it one more try. Zen Carter, the first in a series by Ty Patterson. Also highly reviewed. Thankfully, this effort was significantly better. Don’t get me wrong, this book is no work of literature. But for what it was meant to be, a wild and woolly shoot em up spy adventure, it did the trick. Zeb is your quintessential protagonist; tough, ruthless, ingenious and relentless. The story, once you allow for the expected over the top exploits, escapes and contrivances, is capable of being followed. So now I can have a series to go to when I don’t want to think and just want a little adventure.
The ultimate soldier. Zeb Carter. This is Zeb in the early days before he has set up the agency from the Warrior series. Zeb is former military. Sniper. Strategist. Undercover agent. Order taker--not so much. Zeb accepts the assignment but follows his own rules. As the blurb describes, this is a suicide mission. When it involves bringing home three soldiers held hostage Zeb will do whatever it takes--even die.
There isn't a minute of inaction. His disguises put him in multiple situations that have one thing in common, he could be killed at any time. The terrain is formidable as is Zeb. One of the best things about this super guy is that he is human and even makes a mistake every now and then and pays the price. It makes him real.
Another Ty Patterson winner that I could not put down. The start of a new series I can't wait for more. Bring them on! I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
I received a free e-copy of this book and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Zeb Carter in the early days with no attachments and no one waiting for him to return. He goes undercover on a suicide mission in Afghanistan. There’s a mole, someone is feeding info to the other side. Zeb operates with his own rules. He is a former military sniper who will kill without hesitation when the need arises. Zeb is a complex and complicated character. He can be hard, ruthless, and vicious but we also see a kinder and gentler Zeb at times. This is a well-written thriller with a great plot. The author does bring some of Zeb’s fellow operators from the Warrior series into the story. A real rollercoaster ride packed with suspense. The action never quits. Couldn’t put it down. This is a great story and well worth the read and I look forward to reading more from Ty Patterson in the future.
I had read the first book in another of this author’s series and wanted to get the background on Zeb Carter as he appeared in that book already established with a business of his own. I was not disappointed in this backstory.
Patterson has an interesting staccato style of writing that enhances the action and the suspense. There is not a lot of unnecessary scene setting but there is enough to fully get the feel of time and place. The actions of lone wolf Carter are really ridiculously over the top but somehow Patterson makes it entirely conceivable to the reader that this singular man could do everything he does on this mission. And Mission is what this reminds me of…Mission: Impossible.
The book is a quick and exciting read. I am looking forward to working my way through the two series I have begun and then checking out Patterson’s other works.
We’ve been waiting for the next Zeb Carter story and it was worth the wait!
At the beginning, the story appears to be a prequel to the Zeb Carter series then it is obvious it isn’t. It is actually the first of a new series by Ty Patterson but it mentions a couple of his fellow operators with whom we are already familiar.
Zeb agrees to a mission to rescue three Delta operatives who have been captured by a vicious Taliban drug smuggler/terrorist in the mountains of Afghanistan. While there he discovers they were awaiting his arrival. He was setup by a traitor.
The question is: can he survive the mission against opposing Taliban soldiers, find and rescue the missing operatives, and discover the identity of the traitor back in the U.S.?
Patterson maintains his record of being at the top of his game writing great books!
Another great story from Ty Patterson, this book takes us right back to before Zeb set up his own covert ops business. It gives some great background to this tremendous character, and some of his motivations, perhaps one his main being that you 'never leave a man behind' so he embarks on a mission to brinbg back some captive soldiers. There are lots of Patterson's trademark action sequences which are woven into a very exciting and believable story. For fans of Zeb Carter and the Warrior series, this is a must buy addition to the collection, but anyone who doesn't know Zeb Carter but loves action and thriller books should read this as well, and I am sure it will make Ty Patterson fans of them. I received a complimentary advance copy of the book, but this honest review is based solely on my own opinions.
While the premise is interesting, the execution of the story is farfetched. Multiply Courtland Gentry, Vince Flynn by a factor of 10 and you get our new hero Zeb Carter. The ease with which he penetrates the Afghan valley, slips into multiple covers and takes down 4 people without breaking a sweat and how hardened fighters start cowering becomes unconvincing after a while. The stupidity of villains is so unbelievable that you would think a 10-yr old could join the dots. The writing is not particularly inspired and is lazy - author takes no pains to build characters, situations or even describe the raw beauty of the valley. It's not boring but can hardly call it a novel.

A prequel to the current Warrior series. This one goes back in time to when Carter was in Afghanistan searching for three captured Delta Force operators. To find them he needs to find a Taliban warlord. Along the way he has a brief encounter with Chloe when she was with the 82nd. Also uses the skills of Broker in tracing money. All of that before they became the Warrior group.
Typical Patterson novel. Lots of action and more than just a few in the body count.
American soldiers have been taken hostage, the government has ask Zeb Carter to attempt a hostage rescue. The government doesn't plan on Zeb returning from this mission. The story draws you in and has you racing along with Zeb Carter so closely you can feel the tension and adrenaline flowing as this story takes it's twist and turns. Great read! If you have read the Warrior Series books this one takes place before those start. If you haven't read them this could be a good starting point. I received an ARC copy of this book and have chosen to leave a review.
Zeb Carter is an extremely dangerous man. He's not afraid of dying. He's on a mission in a Taliban controlled area. Everyone is afraid of the Taliban leader and his minions. They rape, blunder and kill the villagers at random to keep them in check. Carter's mission? To rescue three captured Delta operatives. He's not afraid of the Taliban leader nor his soldiers. All Hell is about to break loose.....for the Taliban. Zeb Carter isn't afraid of dying. This is an extremely fast paced action thriller. Enjoyed immensely!
This was the Nook serial read for July of 2022. I wasn't sure I was in the mindset for a book in this genre, but it ended up being just what I needed. I really liked Zeb and following the trials of his seemingly impossible rescue mission. Sometimes you just need someone to root for, and it helps that those he were against were the worst of humanity. This is the first Zeb Carter book I have read, and it looks like this goes back and depicts his earlier years. I would definitely continue this series and move on to the other books that focus on him. Just an enjoyable read all around.
3.5 stars. Zeb Carter is the first book in the Zeb Carter Thriller series. This can be read as a standalone. If you have read the Warrior series, you might recognize Zeb. There is a lot of violence.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. Zeb Carter recommended to apply for a job that requires his unique skill set. The storyline is typical but this book is worth reading. I will continue to read more of this series.
Action-filled terrorist threat elimination as one man returns to Afghanistan
There was a great deal more than opium to trade for an almost endless supply of guns, RPGs, grenades, and more to terrorists. And the leader of the worst terrorist gang in the valley seemed always a step ahead of advancing American forces. Outstanding characters, great settings, and realistic combat. Well worth the time.
Zeb Carter is sent to the Middle East to rescue 3 Delta operatives that have been captured by a terrorist, Atash Mohammed. Wearing disguises enables him to infiltrate the local communities and gather information. It's rough going but he gets the job done. Fantastic reading. With Ty's books, there's always enough action to sail on through.
This is a prequel to a series already well on its way. If you enjoy adventure read it. If you have read any other Warrior series Books this prequel will give you an insight into Jeb Carter, the main character, and others in the series. I enjoyed the book and plan to continue in the series. Some of the adventure seems a little contrived; otherwise I would have scored it with 5 stars.
This another great book by a super author. He makes the story come to life. He puts you inside Zeb Carter and you feel what he feels, smell what he smells and think in his mind. I'm always in the amazed stories. I've read all the warriors series and none of them is wanting for action, danger and hope. I truly recommend this book, get it and see for yourself.
Fast-paced, tension-laced thrill ride of epic proportions.
Typical edge-of-the seat thriller when Zeb Carter is in the mix. Action abounds, conspiracies unravel and no one should cross Zeb's dark side, it tends to have fatal consequences.
A word of caution: The Warrior series and this too, is totally addictive!
A suicide.mission, to go to Afghanistan, three americans we’re being held. He had volunteered for the job, knowing it was called a suicide.and without pay. The disguises he uses, the set backs, and the last minute formulating new plans. It gives one and inside look at dealing with the Taliban. One has read about, with this story if feels real, too real at time, .
Ty Patterson was not an author I was familiar with so this was a new series for me. I was given a free copy as I thought it sounded like some of the other series I have read. And that is the problem. It is a-by-the-numbers military thriller with little originality or personality of its own. It is a short book and I still struggled to get through it.
This was the Barnes & Noble serial read for July. It was an action packed fast reading story about an American who could speak the language like a native. He was trying to get the leader of a group of Taliban. There was fighting, espionage, impersonating a native, spies, and traitors. Highly recommended.
Zeb Carter: A Covert-Ops Suspense Action Novel (Zeb Carter Thrillers Book 1) is a Former Special Forces operative turned mercenary. He takes a lone wolf mission in Afghanistan, to rescue American hostages captured by the Taliban, but when he gets there, he finds everything he was told was a lie.
Ty Patterson has created a classic warrior whose military career prepares him for a post military life battling the evil that exist in our world today. Join Zeb Carter as he confronts those that would do harm to America and Americans.
