But to inherit, she has to live there for one year. That’s not an appealing prospect for a City-girl like Mia and the fact it backs on to a beach, is not a bonus. Mia has a long-held fear of water having nearly drowned when she was six. But with her best friend, Ella and Ella’s brother, Garrick by her side, they see this as a new beginning and they’re soon embracing village life. By the time Mia’s mum, Lori arrives, Love is in the air. Then an incident means Mia has to face her greatest fear and help arrives from a surprising source. As summer ends, great-aunt Matilda remains an enigma, but one thing is clear – someone doesn’t want Mia to stay in Little Pondale and when secrets come to light, Mia wonders who to trust. Until a fortune-teller’s predictions give Mia other concerns. Is she about to lose the man she’s sure she loves?***Mia’s story continues in the next book The Cottage on Lily Pond Lane Autumn leaves and Trick or treat

I listened to this book on an audio version borrowed from my local area's digital library and borrowed parts 3 and 4 at the same time. However I have not listened to parts 3 and 4 yet but more about that in a moment.
Mia inherits her great Aunt Matilda's cottage in Little Pondale with the clause that she has to live there for 12 months. Twins, and friends of Mia, Ella and Garrick come with her to help her settle in.
It is a charming and very sweet book, set in a seaside village and with the genteel mystery of trying to discover exactly who Great Aunt Matilda was.
However, if I am to write an honest review, I did not enjoy the narration and this is why I haven't launched straight into parts 3 and 4. It may be that reading rather than listening to the book will be a better experience for me as I also found the storyline to be excessively twee with an immense sugar overload.
EVERYONE is gorgeous and attractive and handsome and desperate for sex and I found this spoiled the story for me. Parts of the book are interesting and I thought Hetty, the neighbour who cleans the cottage, who loves to gossips, and who stays in touch with her dead husband and lives with a rat, was very funny. I liked the charm of the village description and the Frog and Lily pub, and there is indeed a darker twist when a dead frog turns up on the doorstep, indicating that perhaps someone in the village is determined that Mia won't stay.
However, overall I found this to verge on the too-sweetened side for me and if I am to read subsequent parts of this 8 book series, I would need to ensure I have very frequent check ups with the dentist otherwise I could find myself in need of a set of dentures!

I'm a big crime fiction fan and Emily's novels take me away from all that into a world where love and happiness are just around the corner.

The Lily Pond Lane series are a delightful addition to the library from this author.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)
After a dismissal from her job and a break up with "The Rat," an unexpected bequest was a godsend. Twelve months in a cottage in a small coastal village, with a possible larger inheritance should she stay the twelve months.
So it seems a new start to life, hence new beginnings.
The village life and the learning of trusting new friendships is the second part of this tale.

Very interesting plot line and characters. It would be so nice to have a wonderful great aunt leaving you an estate and money, time to just do what you want to do without having to work or worry about bills and rent... Mia was also thrown in the path to finding love... what's not to like?

Listened to the audio book, really enjoyed this. Lots of mysteries going on and the character are really easy to understand and follow. One hell of a cliff hanger, so I had to download the 3rd and 4th story straight away and start listening. Really enjoyed it.

This is part 1 & 2 of the book, so it ends rather abruptly, the plot is very unrealistic and a bit all over the place, sometimes it was enjoyable and quirky, sometimes just irritating.
The narrator has a very annoying voice for some of the female parts.
I must now decide whether to buy the second half ... as if I don’t the listening to this will have been a complete waste of time....wish I knew this before, I knew there where more parts but thought they where extra stories.
