This is Book 3 of 4 that features Afton Morrison. She's a female psychopathic vegetarian librarian who has a thirst for violence and craves the thought of taking a human life. She also has a pet goldfish.

The small town of Wakefield is besieged by a multitude of arson fires. Afton and her friends know who is responsible and Afton fears for her friends lives.

She's been trying to ditch her dark side, but she may have to embrace that dark side one more time if she wants to survive.

This is fast-paced, action packed, and full of surprises. Less than 200 pages, it's a fast read.. one you won't want to put down. Suspense builds from the first page and just doesn't let up.

I highly recommend reading this series in order. These characters are fully defined and deserve to be put front and center.

Is evil a matter of choice, or are we born that way? And does evil seem to run in families, no matter how they are raised?

Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of this fascinating series. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

This series honestly keeps just getting better and better! I love the growth in Afton’s character. Starting out the lone wolf thirsting for blood, and slowly getting sucked into a social circle… Still thirsting for blood! I feel like she’s got her own Scooby gang going on now! I love the struggle she has with trying to keep hold of the old Afton, but as soon as someone is in trouble, her true nature reveals itself,

“Who are you, anyway?” He flopped down next to Tia and folded his arms across his hulking chest, glaring at me through narrowed eyes. “It’s like I don’t even know my own sister anymore. You want us all to believe you’re hard as nails one minute, out hunting down outlaws for the thrill of it all. The next, you’re sticking up for a guy that tried to have you killed. And you’re pleading for Clara’s clean getaway, too, when I could’ve just as easily hunted her down and shot her dead.”

Afton is really starting to flesh out as a character as she pieces together who she really is,

“Badass, I guess? Vigilante? Murderess? Accidental superhero? Oh, forget the goddamn labels. They screamed Afton Morrison, because with them on, that’s exactly who I saw staring back at me.”

And things are DEFINITELY getting exciting!! You know that blood lust you’ve been feeling reading these books and thinking “…..for a ‘serial killer’ series, there isn’t a whole lot of KILLING!” well, prepare to have that appetite satiated!!

“You’re . . . ready now?”“Ready?”“To kill, Afton.”“That’s it, isn’t it? That’s when I see you. When I’m craving a kill. You’re, like, the devil on a junkie’s shoulder.”

There are some shocking deaths in this instalment! (one in particular got me right in the feels!) You want to see some real emotion from Afton?? Make sure you get to this book!!

“Did this fill me with shame and remorse, like slaughtering Pete Albright had? After a moment, the answer was obvious. There was no guilt inside me. I mean, not even a hint of it. A soft tingle of sexual arousal, sure, at watching her struggle against the profuse leaking from her head. Not to mention the severe pain she was experiencing, I’m sure. But as far as I was concerned, I’d made the world a better place, even if my actions had made her world a whole lot worse.”

If I haven’t said this enough before… YOU ALL NEED TO READ THIS SERIES!! Brent is a master with characters and atmosphere. The more I read, the more I WANT to read!!

Wakefield is smoldering, people…CHILDREN are dying! Afton desperate to protect her friends and her town, makes a deal with the devil. The only problem is, her evil twin doesn’t answer to anyone, even the devil.

Wow! Afton takes us on a wild ride in this installment. I was so lucky to have the opportunity to read book #3 and #4 one right after the other (Jealous aren’t you?), and I can’t gush enough about these books.

In this one, Ashton’s complicated feelings for the people close to her, have her questioning her motives once again, wondering of she really is a killer. Is she as twisted inside as she believes? Having learned more about Clara’s upbringing, she is also wondering if people are born evil or do circumstances experienced during childhood make you that way. The whole Nature vs Nurture thing. The only thing she is sure of, is that she has to take Clara down before anyone else gets hurt.

"I’d climbed these stairs thousands of times, but today I hesitated. Fear of the unknown, perhaps, unsure what awaited me on the third floor.

It was altogether possible that I’d find nothing up there. Clara had visited my apartment, that much I knew, but that didn’t mean she’d stuck around, nor that she returned attacking Jared.

But somewhere in my gut, somewhere deep inside, I knew she was up there. I could feel her haunting presence. I could sense her malevolence. His too, and a cold premonition washed over me that I’d soon come face-to-face with The Man in Shadows. This time, however, without darkness to conceal him."

Like book #2, See You Soon, Afton (Read Review), this one is non-stop action! It’s thrilling, intense and absolutely gripping. It’s impossible to put down (Go on I dare you!), and I’m just thankful I had the last installment to read immediately after. I also find myself becoming more attached to Afton despite her… um… proclivities? I’m rooting for her. I want her to stop Clara, save the day, and get her man.

Like the first two installments in this series, Nice Try, Afton is an easy 5 stars and I can’t recommend this series enough.

Rating… A+

I could’ve screamed, knowing that I was the only person in the room working toward a peaceful resolution. Me, Afton Morrison, the disturbed murderess, suggesting that everyone take a deep breath, and find an answer that didn’t include violence.

Things have gone from bad to worse for Afton Morrison, the would-be murderess -- not only is she being framed for a murder she didn't commit, but didn't; her home has been violated; her understanding of her childhood and family has been shattered; and so many buildings in her town have been burned over the last few days that the police have ordered a lockdown.

Again, this is hard to talk about without spoiling Book 1 and/or 2, so I'll dodge it. Afton's pushed about to her limit -- maybe past it. And pushes herself in new ways. Ultimately, she embraces the violent tendencies that almost pushed her into her first kill back in Book 1 and sets out to put an end to the chaos that surrounds her home town and threatens to burn it all to the ground.

There is a hand-to-hand fight scene toward the end of the novella that was fantastic. I'd stack it up against Child, Sharp, Finder, or the like any day.

Beyond that there's some compelling character-focused material. There's some interesting discussion between the characters on the eternal nature/nurture debate. Afton gets very self-reflective -- and maybe grows a little as a result. The emotional beats between the Afton and her family/friends (or the closest things she ahs to friends) are deeper than I expected, and hard-earned.

I've enjoyed and appreciated the series to this point, but Jones has found a new gear here, and has produced something markedly better than the rest. I'm not sure what he did here that was better -- but every scene, every character, every thing, every theme is better written, better focused, sharper -- if part 4 lives up to this, it's going to be a great ending.

With Wakefield smothering in the smoky haze from recent arsons and oppressive humidity from the sudden downpour in the summer heat, Afton scrambled to avoid detection by the National Guard seeking a meeting with her nemesis. The dramatic conclusion to book 2 left the town in smoldering shambles and Afton's unintentional cohorts, including her brother Chris and his girlfriend Tia, Jared, and Kim, extremely vulnerable.

Afton and Chris go on a search, hoping to track down that familial connection discovered in book 2 and later find that Tia's expected safe haven was insufficient to provide the protection they thought was proffered.

In an ever-increasing tangle of deception, misdirection, and twists, the narrative continues to stump and perplex the reader. Can there be any solution to this dark plot involving a protagonist professed vigilante murderess? Is she too heinous to actually become empathetic or are we beginning to see the emergence of contrived misconception here--some kind of evolution in a psyche long forged by birth and later circumstances.

As I've mentioned before, Jones delivers his unlikely protagonist in intense and raw dialogue, adult situations, and language. It is a novella of nail-biting hard-core suspense and you won't get to breathe until Book 4 is done and won. These characters pit each other in good vs evil and we've yet to see their true colors.

Author Brent Jones calls his series an abstract of “moral ambiguity.” Indeed! A puzzling contradiction. It's a series, and really, you can't and shouldn't see book 3 as a standalone. Go back and begin with Go Home, Afton. (These are short--you'll catch up!)

I was sent this ebook novella download by the author and greatly appreciated the opportunity to read and review. This series is recommended for any who enjoy a dark plot, graphic situations, crime, adrenaline-inducing action, mystery, and suspense.

Oh my stars, Afton!! I’m still buzzing after reading this third book in the series!! This one was the most anxiety provoking, nail biting, I didn’t know if my kindle and I were going to get through it!!

Is evil a matter of choice, or are we born that way?
This is basically the thought process for the entire Afton Morrison series. But mostly we see it in this book. So much happens...holy smokes, so many revelations, so much develops and then so much doesn’t get resolved. Know what I mean? Afton is starting to learn more about herself, her feelings, why she’s the way she is. She goes through so much. I feel so bad for Afton. She really hasn’t had it easy and she only seems to know how to rely on herself and Animus (again, herself). She doesn’t even seem to be able to lean on her brother, Chris. He wants to protect her. But she doesn’t want that.

"You’re so far out of your depth, it’s not even funny. You’re out making deals with killers, and I can’t even get you to eat a steak."

As for Jared, that boy does seem to know Afton. He appears to be very good at how to handle her.

Once again I’m not at all let down by this series. It only gets better and better. I can’t wait to get into book four and find out how Afton gets out of this next jam she’s in!! I’m rooting for you Afton!!!

First off I just want to say thank you so much to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Nice Try, Afton is the third installment in the Afton Morrison series and I have read every single one. I will say if you’re not a big fan of cliffhangers like me then you probably want to wait until every book is out so you can read them back to back because each one has ended on a cliffhanger. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to read them close together so it hasn’t bothered me as much at it usually does.

This book is fast paced and action packed just like the rest of the books and it’s full of surprises. It makes for a quick read and one you won’t want to put down.

For some reason Afton was really annoying to me in this book. I think it was because she kept going back and forth between being “good” and being “bad” and she would never make up her mind. I read this book on vacation and stupid me didn’t take notes so I can’t remember exactly what was bothering me I just remember I found her to be annoying at first.

I highly recommend y’all pick up this series if you haven’t already just be mindful of the pesky cliffhangers. There’s only one more book left in the series and I am excited to find out how things end.

I didn’t think it was possible for the Afton Morrison series to keep getting better, but once again, Brent Jones has outdone himself!

I also didn’t think I could love Afton Morrison any more than I already did, but she just keeps evolving and she is such an amazing character to follow. The Afton Morrison series themes itself around the question of whether we are born with evil in us or if it is a matter of choice, but it is really studied in Nice Try, Afton. As Afton struggles with her identity, she is faced with the question, is she really an evil, cold-blooded murderess? A vigilante? Through her struggles she is becoming even more badass, and I cannot wait to find out the conclusion of her story.

I love the tension in Nice Try, Afton. It was the kind of ‘on your seat’ thrill I live for. Every book has had this so far, but Brent Jones has managed to up the ante even more. From beginning to end, there is action. I especially love the scenes in the last half of the book. I could not put this one down, I had to know what was happening.

Twists and turns, questions of morality, a badass female lead, and a story that just keeps getting better as we progress through the series, I can’t stress enough how much I recomend Nice Try, Afton. This is NOT a series you want to miss!

Wakefield is on fire, people are dying, and the town is on lockdown. Afton and her friends know who is responsible but how can they stop them. Afton has come to care for her friends and wants to protect them from The Man in the Shadows and her crazy sister. The only way she can see how to do this is to walk right into the trap set for her.

I love this series and am constantly on the edge of my seat from one scene to the next. Afton is starting to struggle with the thought of being created to kill or being born into it. Her heart is in the right place so when Afton has to kill you can see that it’s not the mindless killing of her siblings. And the meeting with her twin sister, I did not expect that one to play out the way it did.

This is an amazing series and one I strongly recommend checking out. I can’t wait to get into Time’s Up, Afton. I’m excited to see how this series is going to end.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

In this installment, we jump straight into the action, continuing from where the previous book left off. The town is in lockdown and Afton is sought by the police. She and her new friends are caught in a game of cat and mouse with her new enemies, and Afton learns what she is capable of.

The action is non-stop, and you never know what is going to happen next. One this is sure, no one is safe.

Edge-of-your-seat stuff.

Be warned, this is a serial novel, and you will have to read the rest of the series to get the complete story. I can’t wait to find out how everything is resolved.

Warnings: coarse language, graphic violence, sexual references, sex scenes.

I received this book in return for an honest review.

In this book, Afton has a ton of internal struggles with being who she is and wanting to kill people... even if they deserve it. Afton’s friends become even more involved her antics and some of them get hurt in the process. People are dying, the Man in Shadows is playing games. And it’s so good.

My favorite part of this book is internal struggle Afton has with wanting to kill. Trying not to spoil anything but once she embraces who she is, things get very interesting. Let’s just say she turns on the badass and it’s so cool to see.

And the ENDING... ugh the ending is so good. It’s what I’ve been wanting for 3 books. Definitely looking forward to book 4 to see how she takes care of the her nemesis.

This is the third book in the Afton Morrison series. It was a really good finally to the base story. That is how I took it at least. The book follows Afton while she tries to finish the fight against her rivals and attempts to not drag her growing cadre of friends along with her. I thought that Brent Jones did a good job growing Afton as a character in this book. I feel like she came into her own here.

This story was given to me for free at my request for my voluntary and unbiased review.

Another great book in the Afton Morrison Series. If you haven't read the other two, make sure to read them first.

Once again, a dark, action packed thriller. I listened to the Audiobook version of this book and it kept me sucked into the story the whole time. The narration is excellent. It was hard to stop listening. I'm looking forward to book 4.

In the third installment in the Afton Morrison series by Brent Jones, Nice Try, Afton, a series of arsons throughout Wakefield have put the town on lockdown and our main character is even more determined to put an end to the madness by stopping her tormentors from wrecking more havoc on the town and her friends.

Out of all of the Afton Morrison books, I would have to say that this one was my favorite. After a huge plot twist was revealed at the end of See You Soon, Afton (Afton Morrison Book #2), this book picks up right where the last one left off--with even more unexpected twists. Much more than the previous two books, this storyline is focused on Afton struggling morally with the line between good and evils and where she fits on this spectrum--are some people just born more evil than others or is being evil something we choose? This question remains in the background as the book progresses and we learn more and more about Afton and her shocking family history.

Similar to the previous two books, the third installment in the Afton Morrison series will definitely keep you guessing what's going to happen next. How will Afton figure out a way to protect herself and her friends while also putting an end to this madness and stopping "The Man In The Shadows" once and for all? Although each book is a short and fast read, they definitely all keep you hooked to the very end--especially this one!

Nice Try, Afton releases September 17th (tomorrow!!) and the fourth and final installment will be out October 29th! Thank you to the author, Brent Jones, for sending me a copy!

This book 3 of Afton reveals a lot about her and the other characters. Eventhough Afton does kill, I don't want her to get caught or go to jail. In my mind I can justify her actions. For example: When Afton came to the rescue of a little boy who was being severely beaten by his drunken mother, Afton killed her. I love Afton because her heart is in the right place. She is as kind as she is evil for the right reasons. I was surprised when she finally met up with her sister Clara, that she freed her instead of killing her evil twin. This Book 3 had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I am looking forward to Book 4 , and I really hope that the Author Brent Jones continues his fine writing. I have read all his books and I must say that while reading his captavating books I find myself there with the characters . It is a wonderful feeling to sit back and read a book that will take you away from reality for awhile and to another world.

Nice Try, Afton was another great read by Brent Jones. This is book three of the Afton Morrison series. This is a great series that is full of action and this book definitely doesn't't disappoint. Afton is looking to make a truce with the one person she never thought she would in order to keep everyone safe. I can't wait to read more by Brent Jones.

My apologies for not posting the past few days, and also getting to this story. I had a wisdom tooth pulled and I was in between groggy in bed and ‘where the hell am I?’ state. My mouth is still sore, but at least the problem is gone now.
Anyway…

If you haven’t already guessed, I’m a fan of this series. I’ve written reviews on both Book 1 and Book 2. The fourth book releases this month and I am a bit behind, but I’m so close now!

Afton cannot catch a break! I enjoy how these are quick reads, especially when I have to be bed ridden for a few days. I can understand at first why she was hesitant about her sister, but then I’m like ‘okay, yeah she’s gotta go.’ I’m just morbid like that, like Animus is.

And poor Twinkie!!

I won’t tell you why I say that, but damnit, I’m just as upset about it as Afton was.

It’s difficult to not review this book without giving away spoilers. But you wanna talk family drama? I think Afton has everybody beat at the current moment. Finding out she had a sister, twin sister (spoiler, sorry), and said sister hates her guts (damn!) and now poor Twinkie!

I’m anxious about the fourth book and to see what happens with Afton. So much has happened with Afton so while you could pick a series and read it, why would you want only the limited edition of Afton when you can have her awesomeness from the beginning?
