New Year. Time for a little resolution. But where to begin?
Her body: years of cream buns have left their mark, not only on Izzy but also on the mantlepiece, the rug, the shower curtain and, occasionally, the light bulb.
Her work: plenty of room for resolution there. This term she would try not to fall asleep in assembly and urge her class (4C) away from drug abuse and racketeering towards joined-up writing.
Her love-life: what there was of it was centred around handsome, incompetent, absolutely faithless Michael - the perfect match. If only he wasn't married to the quasi-perfect Louise (or - as Izzy preferred to think of her - Louse).
Izzy Comyn was coping. But only just. And into her life lurch two orgiastic Welshmen, forcing their way into her affections and ... into her bed! What Izzy did not know was that the New Year held in store a metamorphosis beyond her wildest dreams ...

Having heard a re-run of the radio series based on this book, I decided to read the book itself. Sadly, although the radio series featuring the wonderful Imelda Staunton as Izzy was fast moving and very funny, I found that in the book the characters seemed complete stereotypes - feckless Izzy, serial adulterer Michael, nerdy Dick etc. etc. Memo to self - if you enjoy a book brought to life by brilliant radio actors, you won't necessarily enjoy the original !

I "read" or rather listened to a BBC production of this book, starring Imelda Staunton. It was very very entertaining, laugh out loud funny at times, and so well acted I felt as if I was binge-watching (binge-listening?) something rather than "reading" it as I normally do with audiobooks.
