Sometimes the storm takes you with it~ Thea Glenheim’s new next door neighbor turns her small town upside down.
Trace Della’s handsome, successful and committed to helping high risk boys. And he’s changing things in ways a lot of people don’t like. One in particular.
Bad things begin happening on Trace’s property and troublemakers compete with each other to stop him in his mission to provide a place for kids who need help.
All the while Thea is caught in the middle--between the people she’s known all her life and this new man in town. He’s a mover and shaker. She’s a quiet piano teacher. Yet opposites attract, don’t they?
But when and how will the nastiness end? And will it end before someone gets hurt? Badly?
Welcome to Steadfast, a town whose people and mysteries you may never forget~
Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances! This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category. Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.
I've been trying to figure out what I have enjoyed about this series so much, and I finally figured it out with this last book in the series. It's the small town, slow pace, normal every day interactions between well developed characters. And most of the characters in the series have had difficult pasts and less than ideal childhoods, that make the characters relatable and interesting to read about. The series being set in Wisconsin and the books in the series that have included crazy weather have also been enjoyable!
This last book is probably one of my favorites in the series. It follows Thea, a young woman with a hard past who lives in a bit of fear and being afraid to make the wrong decision. Her character is so relatable! She lives a predictable life full of routine until a man moves in next door, Trace Della. He purchased the property next to Theas to start a boys camp and shakes up the whole town. Thea starts to fall for him but she doesn't trust herself to make the right decision about him and is full of worry. She has to decide if she’s going to continue to rely on herself with what’s predictable and a life or no risks or trust God with the unknown. The mystery in this one was pretty light, as was most of the romance. But there were some deeper threads as mentioned before of living in fear, self doubt, and troubled family relationships.
I must say, I had to peek to make sure this author had other series before I finished this one because I have really enjoyed it and didn't want the series to end! Had there been more books, I would have read them all! So on to another series by this author!
Spring's Storm by Lyn Cote Have read other works from this author and have enjoyed the reads. This one starts out with Thea, she's got a lot on her plate. She's not only a lady who teaches others the piano in her house but she tends to her grandmother who'd suffered a stroke and is in local nursing center and she visits and brings treats often and she runs family fishing cabins during the summer. On top of that Trace, the next door neighbor bought the boys camp and will be starting it up again. On top of that it's a small town and everybody relies on info about him from her. A student comes and her mother has a sick dog and drops the 2 year old twins off at her house also. Within a short time the whole house is in chaos and that's when the new neighbor shows up. It gets worse over time. Her step sister has run away, she meets up with her father and finds out truth about why they sold their house...some towns people don't want anything to do with the camp and have sabotaged events and his truck and poisons her dog, never mind the whole kitchen and supplies. What I really like about this book are the ways Trace encompasses the townsfolk and talks to them at church using passages from the bible to help. There are lots of secrets-their upbringing, religious training and how much community does matter. It's so realistic with what's going on in today's world. Love how community is there to help when it's needed especially the auction and the support it gives to the boys camp. Love interjections of faith throughout this book and praying to the Lord. Misunderstandings draw them apart and she realizes who is the culprit that is harming them all...love meaning of title in this book. Author bio and other works included at the end along with an excerpt from another book. Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
The author drew me in immediately. I could relate to being shy and not liking to speak to a crowd. I could not relate to Trace's busy life and chatting up prospective donor's for his boy's camp; although I could see Christ in Trace, and love for his fellow man. Thea loved the people in her small town and learned a lot about her nearest and dearest: her stubborn, single minded grandmother, her grandmother's best friend, her absent father, her step sister she hadn't really gotten to know and the girl's mother, the stubborn retired real estate agent who was deeply mourning the death of his son and her 'secret friend' she grew up with. She understands the people in her town but tries to keep herself separate from them. I understand that, too. I've read the 3 previous book from the "Northern Intrigue" series and loved them all. Ms. Cote helps her heroines over come their own issues to be able to help others. I don't want to spoil the story so I shall stop here. Thank you, Ms. Cote.
Spring's Storm by Lyn Cote Northern Intrigue Series Book Four Thea Glenheim lives a quiet life. Teaching piano lessons to children around Steadfast. When someone buys the camp property next to hers...life changes around the quiet...but gossipy town. And, something changes within Thea as well.
Peter Della always dreamed of a camp to help inner-city kids. Get them out of their environment for a short time. Show them some love. Who knew the town's people would give him such grief when he buys the Double L?
Thea finds she was living in somewhat of a bubble—and that bubble has just popped. More importantly is she finds how the truth truly does set us free. She didn't realize how much she believed to be true...that wasn't. This is a wonderful series with great characters and mysteries. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
Thea has been trying to do her grandmother's bidding since she moved in with her. Now a breath of fresh air comes into Thea's life with Trace and the boy's camp moving next door. Her step sister, Hailey, staying with her, also helps her look at her life differently. Some small minded people in town, including Thea's grandmother, oppose the camp. Thea has been trying to stay neutral in the controversy, but vandalism at the camp might pull her in. I received a free copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I am so happy that books are being added to this series. This is a sweet Christian romance with some intrigue on who is trying to sabotage the camp. I really liked Trace and Thea. It was wonderful to see Thea gain confidence. I recommend this book and this series.
A wonderful wrap up to this series and probably my favorite book in the series. I enjoyed them all, but there was just something about Thea and Trace and the storyline that grab my heart. I felt I knew them and I wanted so much for them. I struggled with fear for a season of life and went through my own deliverance from it, so maybe that is why I connected with Thea. Our backstories are very different, but I know how Fear can cripple and keep up from stepping outside the "safe" world we create for ourselves.
I love seeing Thea gain her confidence and stand up for herself and for her beliefs. I loved seeing a fractured family find healing. I love watching faith grow. And I loved Trace's heart to help others as he had been helped.
When a boy's camp opens up outside town, things begin to change. Moving from being afraid of what other people think, learning and willing to seek the truth helps the woman changes from being scared to trusting her instincts. She finds that standing on her own gives her strength. I won this in a contest and have found a new favorite author. Writing a review is the best way I could express my delight.
How do you break out away from the quiet life you are living when your new neighbor brings challenges into the town? The town does not want Trace's camp for troubled teens. He's a determined man that can persuade some people to support his dream. But there are some in town that are as determined not to change their minds. So begins the conflict & mystery about who is threatening him & his dream. I enjoyed this story very much.
When Thea Glenhein’s new neighbor moves in next door that her, he literally turns her world upside down. His plan to bring high risk young boys from big cities for summer camp upsets many people in the small town including Thea’s grandmother who resides in a nursing home. Thea try’s to stay neutral but fairness demands she defend her neighbor, Trace Della’s dream but she also begins to fall in love with him also. This is a cute story that’s clean, wholesome and hold your attention right up to the end.
The final novel in this series was just as good as the rest of the books. I loved these two MCs who were so different from each other. I liked watching them overcome obstacles and seeing them rely on God through prayer and scripture for help and guidance. And I loved the hopeful ending. If you’re looking for a sweet, inspirational, suspense romance, then don’t miss this one.
Christian Romantic Suspense Northern Intrigue Books 1-6
Lyn Cotes kept me reading through 6 books of Christian Romantic Suspension; each book introduced me to another family of a small Wisconsin community.. Once started, this reader was hooked. Ms Cotes knows the LORD, knows where HE is needed to bring out the weaknesses & strength of her characters & HIS place in her stories.
Enjoy true to life stories with true to life touches of our LORD & SAVIOR.
Totally excellent book. Very well written. What a difference it can make to not have positive affirmation from one who raised you. Thea had so much to overcome, and with Trace moving in next door, she has the help she needs. However, it is a real surprise how this all plays out. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it. I received a copy from the author. Opinions are my own.
Wonderful story! Clean romance! Adventure & mystery! This book has it all! Held my attention from the first page to the last! So glad I finally found an author who is talented & gifted writer & who is also including God's truths & love in her creations! Thank you!!l.
Another wonderful book in this series! Lyn Cote is a relatively new author to me. I liked her first book in this series that now, I have finished books 1-4 within a week! I love the characters and well thought out plot. Mystery, intrigue, romance and above all God, makes her books so awesome!
Threats against a boy's camp, family relationships, troubled teens, faith, clean romance, and the dynamics of life in a small town combine to make this a very pkeasant, worthwhile reading experience.
I received a free copy from the author, but the opinions expressed are my own.
