I know this is a Wattpad story and my expectations shouldn't be too high, but this story was just so cliche that I felt like I had read it a billion times. Lea got kind of annoying too, and how lovesick she was got very frustrating for me to read, and I just think that finishing this wouldn't be worth my time.
This is one of the most cliché novels on Wattpad. Still, it feels like all of its charm lies exactly there! It's just your typical love story with everyday obstacles, but it's so adorable, easy and fun to read. It's not something that I would normally read, but it's something that I would definitely enjoy on a sad day -- to make me smile, of course.
The whole situation from the very beginning is hilarious and had me giggling throughout the next several chapters. I very much like the fact that the author based it on a Korean drama but gave it her original touch as well!
I know this book isn't really finished yet, but I've caught up on all the chapters that were published right now and it started great. I loved the whole story but through the end, it became a little too intense for me. I loved character development though. River truly changed theoughout this book and I loved Lea's personality. She was a little too nice for my taste, but I would rather have the main character to be kind than bitchy. I would've liked more High School scenes but it was a nice read so far and I've got to say I've really enjoyed it.
2.75* I read in one sitting on wattpad today and it was one of the most cliche wattpad reads, well what can I expect, it’s bloody wattpad lmao (cliche central). Anyway, this is great for when you’re in a reading slump as it’s a light fluffy cute read however very cringe worthy and I dislike lea at times.
Overall I thought the book was ok and I may read it again if I’m in a slump as it’s a very easy read, I highly recommend it if you like cliche however if you dislike cliche I highly doubt you would like it.
Okay obviously, I'm not actually done reading this since it's not finished yet, but I'm not sure how to list it on GR otherwise, since it's not a dnf either.
So far, the rating I'm giving it, is 3 stars.
Why? It's so cliché, but I still really enjoy reading it. I know, it sounds so stupid, but it's simply the truth.
This wad the first book i ever read on WattPad, and let me tell you it will forever be my favorite book (on WattPad). I loved the whole aspect of a forbidden love because in a way that's kinda what it was. Technically it wasn't but it made it feel like it!!!
The book that I chose is called “Mr. Popular and I” written by Indie, and was published in the website Wattpad. This book is found in one of the most recommended, and it called my attention due to the fact that contains drama and romance – which are my favorites literary genres. Actually, I didn’t know this author and I didn’t read none of her books before. In my opinion this author did an excellent job with this book, and this effort is reflected because the number of people who read this book was about 97.7 M. At the beginning I didn’t have many expectations about this book, because most of the time I read a book in Wattpad and I thought that this book was going to be bored. However, as I was progressing in the reading I was liking it a little more.
Almost all romance stories talk of impossible loves; instead the story of this book, start narrating about a young girl who doesn’t hang out with boys and who doesn’t think of having boyfriend. She considered herself invisible to all men, so she decided to concentrate more in school stuff instead of having a relationship.
Also, tells the story about a boy which all the young girls adored him. He was the most popular at school, and all the girls were jealous of Georgia (his girlfriend) because she was in a relationship with River. In the most unexpected moment all change, when a beautiful girl, who called herself invisible, changed the path of River’s heart. Here we can see that the typical romance story change, when the most popular boy falls in love with someone who told herself being invisible for everyone, especially one in particular.
Deeping more the book, I’m going to tell you about the main characters. Open up with River Parker, whom every girl has a crush on him. What I disliked of him was his temperament at the beginning of the book, I mean of how he treated people. However, analyzing what happened to him in the book I can understand the fact of why he was rude to all the people. Another of the main characters is Lea Wilson, who thought being invisible for men. About Lea’s personality, I disliked that every time that River talked to her she blushed. Nevertheless, I understand why Lea blushed because I think that’s a behavior that have most of the women towards men. On the other hand, what I liked of her was Lea’s noble heart, because despite of all the conflicts River had she stayed with him no matter what were his problems.
The plot of the book was unpredictable, because I thought that is was going to narrate only a story of love between the main characters and it wasn’t like that. Instead, River was adopted and he had a sister called Emily. Nick (whom River considered his brother) was Emily’s boyfriend; and one day at a party, Nick saw Emily kissing Ky (River’s best friend) and Nick piss off so he took Emily to his car. An hour later, Nick and Emily were injured due to the fact that Nick crashed the car because he was drunk and with drug in his human system. Nick fractured some ribs, meanwhile Emily stayed in coma; and a year later, Emily woke up but with memory loss. River was happy with Emily’s recovery, but at the same time he was sad of knowing that Emily was never going to remember him. Weeks later, Emily had a rare attack and the doctors didn’t know how to handle it, so she died. Nick was very disappointed of himself for what he did, so he went to River’s house with a gun to kill himself. In that moment Lea went to the wood house (another house of the Parkers), and she saw Nick. Lea didn’t know what to do to stop Nick of taking his life away, so Lea, acting impulsive, jumped to take away Nick’s gun. The gun shot causing a wound on Nick’s thigh, but Lea thought that was better a Nick with a bullet on his thigh rather than a Nick with a bullet on his head.
With the narration of the previous event, it will be understood why the plot was unpredictable. Within its main theme, I think that are friendship, betrayal, love, lies, violence, hope, and dreams.
What I was disappointed about the book was that cheating occupied an importance place, such as it is describe in the relationship between the characters; for example, River cheated Georgia with Flo (Georgia’s best friend), but Georgia didn’t break up with him because she was carrying River’s baby, but then she had a miscarriage. Georgia made River promise to never leave her, and River promised what she wanted due to the fact that Georgia was shattered because of him. Later, River met Lea and he cheated Georgia again. In the story he said that he did it, because the love between Georgia and him was over. Instead in my opinion, that is not an excuse for justify what he did.
In conclusion, I recommend this book for teenagers over fourteen years old despite of the anti-values that are presented (like to commit adultery in a relationship). I specify to read this book only if they are over fourteen years old, because maybe a girl or a boy of twelve years old can take some negatives conducts that are described in the book (for example, cheating someone in a relationship). Instead, people over fourteen years old have their own judgement, and they can think of how badly is to cheat in someone when that person is conscious that is with somebody else.
Frankly...Wattpad has better books on the same concept than Mr. Popular and I. This book may have given a reason for River to turn into a jerk but I felt like that reason wasn't good enough. So back to the story line...meet Lea Wilson, the nerd of the town whose house was just ruined due to termites. Also meet River Parker, the loaded jerk and popular guy in the town. Lea is forced to stay at Rivers house as their fathers are childhood friends. The story of the cliche of two haters turned to lovers and to rate about its cuteness is left to you guys. I always disliked dual p.o.v.s and this book didnt do anything to change my opinion about it.
The book was just alright.I was not much into the book from the beginning due the crazy personality of the main character lea. She was too lovesick and rambling to herself that it started to become irritating. But still it was ok and i continued reading.
Then came the relationship between lea and river.I just felt like the writer didn't do much into the build-up.They just came together out of nowhere. This couldn't connect to me and thus i couldn't enjoy the book much.
The character development was good.Either of the main characters could present themselves as strong individual personalities each struggling with their own problems.I really liked river's character in particular.
The best thing i found about this book was the ending.I loved how the author wrapped everything and everything turned out to be on a possible note.
So if you like to read something too cliche, then this one's for you.(Also the lovey-dovey stuff was quite good.)
Ugh, alright. I dived into this book with so much hope and interest but as I read further and further the whole thing just kind of got...i don't even know, honestly. There was no substance to it. Alright, the plot was good but the whole story could have been so much better. The writing style was okay-ish but it did no good for me to like it. But I think the character development was good, that was possibly the only thing i liked about the book. I was looking for a passion filled, soul-wrenching kind of love story but it was just- 'meh', you know? Read it if you want but I would not rec it though.
Mr Popular and I is without a doubt a Wattpad classic, and I knew this even as I was reading it while it was partially complete and the readers were awaiting updates.
In 2020 I reread this novel and was able to complete it (which says so much for a novel I first read as a teenager.) As an adult, I am a lot more critical and able to highlight errors and issues in novels that I would’ve previously overlooked. In most cases I can’t even make it through half of a novel my teenage self gave the 5 star stamp of approval.
With that being said, this novel gets the highest rating I may ever give a Wattpad novel, and is definitely up there with the greats of the era.
This is a clicheWattpad book I always reread over and over especially during my worst reading slumps.
Lea and River goes through so much together. they are realistically flawed. River is more than just Mr. Popular with a perfe t life. I think it starts off just so cute and then you enter all the life altering changes that breaks your hearts and mends it at the same time.
You really do feel for these characters.
You just need to go in with an open mind and enjoy the fluff, the cutesyness, the cliches.
Sweet, sweet young love. This was a lovely read. Very fast and fun. Good characters. Interesting plot. I waited a long time for it to be finished and I promised myself that I will only read it when it was done. So there you go, now it is done. I had fun reading this. Thank you to the author for not giving up on the story and I hope she writes some more.
