God's salvation of humanity, as presented in the Scriptures, will always be the highest, most sublime, and more rewarding of all theological subjects. It is a truth that is both startlingly simple and profoundly complex--as simple as knowing that "Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so," and so complex that the Apostle Paul described this intricate cosmic drama as "the mystery of godliness" (1 Tim. 3:16, NKJV). Throughout Christian history, many debates have raged about this greatest of all topics, often resulting in schisms, anathemas, and bloodshed. And the debate continues among Christians today. In this landmark volume, organized by the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University, nineteen scholars collectively present the most comprehensive treatment of this topic to be published in the Adventist world. Salvation strongly affirms Adventism's Protestant soteriological roots, further refined by the work of the seventeenth-century Reformer Jacob Arminius. Built on the Protestant principles of sola gratia et fides and soli Deo gloria, this book is organized according to the five tenets of Conditional Election, Unlimited Atonement, Total Depravity, Resistible Grace, and Christian Assurance/Sanctification. The first part of the book addresses the Cosmic Controversy, God's foreknowledge, and predestination. The second part wrestles with the problem of sin and human nature. The third part presents a biblical understanding of the work of Christ. The fourth part explores the teaching of God's grace, including His prevenient or initiating grace. The fifth and final part illumines our assurance of salvation. This is a book for our time on the great theme that will be our study for all eternity.
This is a long and somewhat heavy read but very informative and enlightening for how to relate to justification, sanctification and the process through which God saves us. If I had read this book years ago I would have been relieved from a great deal of anxiety and lack of assurance in Jesus.
This is by far the most comprehensive and beautiful articulation of Salvation I have ever read. It is a goldmine and wealth of information that has driven me to study and better understand the Bible.
Probably all Christians, might including some sincere truth seekers as well, are studying the Bible to know about the way of salvation offered by the loving Savior Jesus Christ. But how many are truly understand the real answer and essence of the salvation that the Bible is talking about? This is the question that the book here also asks and demands a clear answer and I just finished the reading recently. The book structure is mainly focused on the issues that the Reformed Christians are believed which called TULIP (total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and Perseverance of the saints), and viewing these five components by comparing both Calvinist and Arminian positions, and how Adventists should consider them at last.
But let's make no mistake about it: only the Word of God is qualified to give an "official" answer to the question of salvation (not even the book you are seeing here in the picture!) Hence, let's wake up folks! Study the Bible like never before to find out the clear answer for yourself and not depend on scholars or theologians to provide answers for you! Their views and opinions may be considered, but the Word of God has the last say. Do you think so?
This excellent edited volume provides clarity regarding the historical and contemporary differences between Reformed and Biblical theology. The process and elements of salvation are explored in depth using the Biblical metaphor of the sanctuary service, inaugurated by God when He clothed Adam and Eve with animal skins and instructed Cain and Abel to offer a sacrificial lamb to God for atonement. This service was subsequently formalized by Moses for the children of Israel and adhered to by faithful kings and priests throughout the history of the Israelite nation. However, as most clearly delineated in the New Testament book of Hebrews, this service ultimately pointed to God's heavenly sanctuary, a building 'not made with hands' that constitutes God's solution to sin and intimately connects Biblical theology with historicism, the philosophical presupposition that God acts within history and declares the end from the beginning.
Deep dive into SDA belief of Salvation. Understanding the Arminian doctrine. Christ being the hope of Salvation and the grace bestowed on mankind. The power of the Blood of Jesus and sacrifice on the cross. Very good text. Opens the door for even more investigations of SDA beliefs...
