Jaime Loughran is a writer, organ donor, and animal rescuer. An older friend gave 14-year-old Jaime her first romance novel and set her on the path that led to writing her own contemporary and historical romances. Born and raised in New Jersey, she calls the gorgeous rolling hills of the south central region of Kentucky home. Of course, living near the Horse Capital of the World wouldn’t be complete without horses, and Jaime is owned by (and servant to) a small herd of Arabians. And Thor, the Appaloosa, who thinks he’s an Arabian. Shhhh…don’t ruin it for him.

Jaime enjoys quilting, painting, and baking. Jaime and her teenage son also enjoy their work as "chicken tenders". (No, not the food kind. :) ) Together they raise Brahma chickens. She is obsessed with comfy pajamas, t-shirts, Supernatural, and reading.

Rick Castle has been living the rock star lifestyle for almost twenty years. In that time, he’s built an internationally successful band, kicked the recreational drug habit he developed, and married a woman he adored. In one night, that all came crashing down. His band broke up, he nearly died of an overdose on prescription medications, and his wife died. The last thing he needs is the police investigation threatening to send him to jail for drug trafficking and the murder of his wife.
Detective Elaina Wells moved to Wallowdale, California to escape the fallout of her husband’s drug addiction that cost her everything she holds dear. Escaping the past isn’t easy when her latest investigation into Rick Castle puts her on the path of another drug related tragedy.
Neither is looking for love—and both have reasons to avoid it. Can Elaina handle the pressure of an investigation that forces her to face her past? Will Elaina be the one that puts Rick in jail or be his savior? Can these two weather their storms and find love on the other side?

This book started out really good, then kinda nose-dived for me. I was enjoying the mystery and criminal investigation parts of the book until it became too predictable. Elaina and Rick were very interesting but I would have liked to feel the connection they had, instead of just reading about it. Would have liked a epilogue to see how they managed with his tour and her job.

This is my 1st read and review for this author and this is my favourite genre Rockstars/ bands etc and it’s an absolutely fantastic story. Rick is a rockstar he’s hit it big but then overnight things just fall to pieces his band splits, his wife is murdered and he nearly dies of a drug overdose. Elaina is a detective who is investigating his wife’s murder at first she believes that Rick had done it she had pegged him wrong, because of her tragic past she believes that all drug users are murderers but she was wrong. This is a fantastic murder mystery with two damaged souls finding their way to each other, this story was not what I thought it would be but it was even better and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Rick Castle is a successful rock star with the world at his feet. Then one night it all comes crashing down around him and his life will never be the same. I had the pleasure of beta reading this book for the author and I told her it was her best work yet. The plot is solid and the characters are likable. Rick is relatable even with his rock star lifestyle. I highly recommend this book for an awesome summer beach read.

I liked the suspense and investigation part of the novel more than the romance. That could have been beefed up a little more. All in all a likable read that kept me entertained.
