Ble ikke glad av alt der, men sikkert fin til barn. Men skjønner ikke hvordan et happy poem kan handle om en far med diabetes som amputerer beinet unnskyld meg.
Old Mr. McGuire, blind as a bat, had a rabbit, a weasel, a dog and a cat. He stroked them all as he sat by the fire, some days they felt smooth, and some days like wire. With a bark, a hiss, a squeak and miaow they demanded attention and all got it somehow. Old Mr McGuire, he loved them all - 'To me you're one creature you're all from the same sack. God brought you here and he'll take you back. You may think you're all different but, heavens above - you are all of you loved with one single love.'
Mr McGuire - Brian Patten
An amazing variety of poems, old and new, with a particular attention to growing up, family, and the natural world. And lots of accessible lyrical poetry here to enjoy with all ages!
This was a rather good selection of poems to put a smile on your face.
Like all collections of poems, there will be poems that make your heart sing, those that you enjoy but don't find spectacular, those that are middling, those that aren't badly written, but not right for your taste and those you simply don't like in any shape, way or form. The same was the case here, although there were far more poems that made my heart sing or I enjoyed than those that didn't float my boat.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this collection of poems chosen by renowned poet Roger McGough.
This book contains poetries on Humour, Happiness, Joy, Pets, Learning, Hope, Prayer and much more. Few of the poems were confusing to me as if it read like fill in the blanks or should I say match the following? The best part was that although these were presented on simple topics but composition were really written in a unique manner.
I will give 3.4 rating. I enjoyed it so would recommend to all because there is no age limit to read such beautiful poetries.
This is the type of poetry that I like: lighthearted, fun, and not too difficult to understand. Some were better than others, but overall most of them were very enjoyable. I think that the amount of poems in this book are just about right, they're not too many that you get lost in it, but not too few that it's unsatisfying.
A nice collection, but ‘Keeping Wicket’ by Valerie Bloom - whilst excellent- has never struck me as a happy poem, more a quietly devastating exploration of the different expectations placed on sons and daughters…
A really accessible collection from Roger McGough. The random order of poems and themes added a playful charm. Simple, clear language makes it easy to enjoy. Some poems are unexpectedly profound, others delightfully silly.
A wonderful collection of joyous, uplifting and inspiring poems thoughtfully compiled by McGough to remind us that happiness can be found all around us in the everyday.
I really liked most of the poems in this book, but some of them were twisting my tounge and other were to long and to boring. Other than that I really enjoyed this book. 📙
This would make a brilliant coffee table book, lots of the poems are delightful! But at the moment I'm looking for a collection to read from front to back and to lose myself in. I didn't get involved in this one and wasn't motivated to pick it up so not for me at the moment. :)
