Phoenix Brothers Series : Hooked on a Phoenix (Book 1) More Than a Phoenix (Book 2) A Phoenix is Forever (Book 3) Praise for Ashlyn "Hot and hilarious. Ashlyn Chase has been a registered nurse for 20 years. During those years, she wrote articles for professional journals and a thesis, but eventually, thank goodness, discovered the joy and freedom of writing fiction.
Ashlyn considers herself lucky. Her degree in behavioral sciences is a combination of psychology and sociology, so she has worked with and studied people most of her life. She never has to write out exhaustive character sketches to understand her characters or predict how they will behave. That doesn't mean they don't surprise her. Sometimes they take her on grand unexpected journeys. For her, it gives "character driven novels" a whole new meaning.
Ashlyn has learned to go with the flow. To enjoy the journey is not only one of her writing goals, but also a challenge in life so she tries to follow where the story takes her. As such, she has lived in 17 different places over the years. At last, she's all settled down and comfy in New England.
Is there a grand design or do we decide our own fates? Perhaps if the powers-that-be have a plot, then they also give us the right to revise it. Ashlyn has certainly made detours on her path, but she thinks she's better for it. She's having fun at any rate and hopes that if she enjoys the journey, so will those around her—including her readers.
Paranormal shifter romance. 3rd in the Phoenix Bothers series. Can be read as a standalone. Seems to be a series wrap up.
I liked the couple. They were instantly engaging. They seemed to fit well together even though the heroine had a less than perfect past. I really liked the good karma message. I have always resonated with “what goes around, comes around” and similar sayings. I believe if you put good out into the world, that’s what you get back. The message from this book is the same.
What bothered me was the time delay on finding and rescuing the child. It wasn’t ignored, just seemed long. It was stressful!
A wonderful romantic suspense with a positive family tie in.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I purchased a copy of this to share.
Dawn Forrest is a psychic who's working at turning her life around getting away from the gang she had hung out with when she was younger. Luca Fierro is a rookie police officer in a family of firefighters. They meet the morning after Luca's first shift after he'd been dumped by his girlfriend of two years. When a woman is found killed in a car crash where it shows she'd been pursued and her young daughter is kidnapped, Luca gets involved and asks Dawn to help. The two grow closer the more time they spend together.
I loved this series and this book is no exception. It's a well-written, fabulous read with great characters who are believable both on their own and as part of a large family.
**I received this ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review**
Synopsis: Luca Fierro comes from a family of phoenix shape-shifters. Together with Dawn Forrest, a psychic, they must find a missing girl before it’s too late, a task that will require them both to use their “abilities” to help bring her home.
My Thoughts: Amazing! I love when an author can immediately start weaving a story that keeps you flipping the pages, and I was hooked from the start. The third book in this series, this can definitely be read as a standalone if you haven’t read the previous books (like myself). The mission to find the missing girl kept this a very fast-paced read. And the paranormal elements, the shape-shifting and mythical beings, were not so overbearing as to take away from the plot or completely change the “world”. In my opinion, those minor things were sprinkled in in moderation enough to make it interesting.
As for the characters, I was rooting for Luca and Dawn from the beginning. I loved their personalities and how they interacted with the people around them and each other. Their romance spawned from a friendship/partnership first and I loved it. I enjoyed seeing them grow as a couple instead of going all doe-eyed and hopping under the sheets their first week together. I envisioned Luca as a sweet, blue-eyed rookie fresh out of the academy, innocent and humorous, not yet hardened by the world. Whereas Dawn has been hardened given her past as a Keen Street Gang member. She’s been on the darker part, and she is doing everything in her power to become a better person so she never has to go back.
Again, I loved these two as well as the supporting characters. While there were many (Luca has a very large Italian family), I didn’t feel like I was drowning in a sea of nameless people. Everyone had their own quirks, their own personalities and roles in the story to keep in moving as well as help the main characters grow.
Would I Recommend: Absolutely. Different, refreshing, this book made me a fan of Ashlyn Chase’s writing style.
A PHOENIX IS FOREVER is the third story in Ashlyn Chase’s Phoenix Brothers series, and although I will always suggest reading in order, this one could be read on its own without any trouble.
Luca is a rookie cop in a family of firefighters. His family is supportive of whatever he does, but being the big, rowdy family they are he does take some ribbing. His first night on duty did not go smoothly, and the bad news continued once he was off duty. A chance encounter at a fountain with a psychic will change both their lives.
Dawn has an extraordinary gift, which at times can feel more like a nightmare. For years she’s used that gift for the wrong reasons and now that she’s turning her life around life has become complicated once again. A vision she received during a chance encounter shows her a handsome man covered in blood, a vision that affects her more than she’d like to admit. Luca and Dawn will part ways but it won’t be long before her unique talent can save a life, and perhaps lead to a life with the man, the phoenix she was meant to be with.
I was easily caught up in Dawn and Luca’s story in A PHOENIX IS FOREVER. The dangers they face and the bond that is building as they search for a missing young girl will only draw them closer. Their story has a more slow-burn buildup which feels completely natural for this couple. I enjoyed catching up with Luca’s family once again, and Dawn is a character to believe in as she changes the direction of her life by choice. If you love Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance then you’d enjoy this series and this story.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This author is new to me. I found this book to be well written and a fun read. That said, here’s my setup, I don’t do spoilers though. Luca Fierro is from a shape shifting family of phoenixes. Most of his family work as firefighters. Lucca has a passion for public safety and police work. His family isn’t happy about his choice, but he’s trying to make a go of it, and they are a loving and supportive bunch. He begins on the night shift and has a horrible first day/night on the job. When Luca calls his girlfriend Lisa, for a little sympathy, she dumps him. She doesn’t want a cop for a boyfriend and has already moved on to a richer guy. To work off his hurt and frustration he walks home. Near a fountain, he hears a woman gasp and sees her falling. He uses his supernatural speed to catch her. She’s psychic and tells him she saw him covered in blood, it made her faint. She gave him some details, but he remained skeptical. She gave him a card with her name and number…Dawn Forest. Dawn is very special and very different from what Luca is used to, but the attraction is immediate and grows. They become friends and then involved in both his work and their personal lives. His investigations mix with her past and they work well together. His family really likes her too. That’s the basic setup. That’s all I can give you. I think you should enjoy this great story for yourself. I enjoyed the characters and the reasons they do what they do. I look forward to seeing more great stories from this author.
Oh no - is this the last book of this series?! I'm sad if it is, because I loved these (mostly) firefighter, shapeshifter, family-oriented guys!
This story deals with the last of the single Fierro's - Luca. Being the youngest, and the only one who was interested in becoming something other than a firefighter (for a girl?!), he was sure to be the last to pair off. He may have been dating a horrible woman in secret, but that has recently ended, and his cop career has just started. After a rough shift, he runs into Dawn, who just so happens to be a bit of a paranormal as well. These two have an odd meeting that rapidly grows into something more.
Of course, all the characters were lovely. I especially enjoyed Dawn and her grandmother. This let us see more of Gabriella, which is always fun! Nothing is truly straightforward in this universe, so we get a good kidnapping, mystery, and HEA all rolled into this paranormal package. I'm happy to see that the entire family (extended and otherwise) gets a real nice wrap-up at the end, but I am so sad to say goodbye to all their quirks. Please, more?
Dawn was going down the wrong road until she decided to change her life. She is using her psychic abilities to do good in the world. She meets Luca, a Phoenix shifter and rookie cop, at a water fountain and sees him covered in blood. She warns him to be careful and tells him about her talents and gives him her card. When a mother is killed and her little girl goes missing, they work together to find her. The more they are together, the more they fall for each other. Can they find the little girl before something bad happens to her? First time reading this author. She’s good but some parts, not many, just wasn’t believable. It was the dialect between them that sounded stilted sometimes. Other than that if you like shifters, suspense, and a big family you’ll enjoy this story.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
I've read all the previous phoenix books and this is the 3rd. You don't have to read the previous books but it does help with some of the family interaction. Luca is the odd man er, phoenix, in his family. In a family of firefighters, he is a cop. He is determined to prove himself both to the boys in blue and to his family.
Dawn hasn't had the easiest life but she is determined to not go back to being used by the gang. I loved her relationship with her grandmother. Dawn's psychic abilities could help Luca solve a big case, one he isn't technically a part of, but he may be in over his head in more than one way.
It was a 3/5 for me. The story was solid, I just didn't connect to the characters.
Thank you to the publisher for the review copy of this book (via netgalley). I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
3.5 Stars A PHOENIX IS FOREVER by Ashlyn Chase. I enjoyed this story. I liked Dawn. I admired her for working hard to make a better life for her and her grandmother. And she had quite a bit to overcome. I liked Luca too, but he came a cross a tad immature for me. The story progressed at a nice pace, although I did have an issue or two with the missing child. I felt it should have and could have been a bit more of a priority. This is also part of a series. I have not read all the other books but was able to follow along without a problem. Also, it is a paranormal romance but that aspect wasn't in the forefront of the story so it didn't overshadow the romance brewing between Dawn and Luca. Overall, this was a quick and easy read that I enjoyed. (received ARC for honest review)
For some reason this book comes off really light in tone, even though bad things happen. I think part of that is Dawn and how she wished to have her karma changed and now it's happening. I loved the idea that when people wish for this they are given and chance to make it happen themselves, that good things can start happening to them, Dawn was very deserving of this chance.
The chance meeting between Dawn and Luca seemed just that, but that one meeting seemed to snowball into more for both of them. I loved that each of them reached out to their connection, that by working together they were able to do much to help others and themselves. I really loved how Luca's family embraced Dawn and her grandmother.
Dawn Forrest is ready for a big change. She's determined to put her criminal past behind her and only use her extraordinary psychic abilities for good from now on. Luca Fierro is a Phoenix shifter and rookie cop with something to prove. The last person he should tangle with is a newly reformed bad girl, especially one as irresistible as Dawn. But he needs her help to find a missing child, and every minute counts. This case is going to put their skills to the test and force them to keep their sizzling attraction at bay... It’s been a while, but I’ve read a few other books in this series and like the others, this didn’t disappoint. It was a quick, hot read that was really enjoyable. I really liked both main characters. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
Although in a series, you don’t need to read the others (but there are characters from the previous books)
Luca is a Phoenix shifter, all of his family are, but unlike his brothers (they work for the fire department) Luca is a police officer. And after a bad day at work, he phones his girlfriend for a little sympathy, but he gets more than he bargained for ......
Dawn can’t quite shake her bad girl image, she does t want to go back to gang life, she wants only to help people now. Being a psychic isn’t all it's cracked up to be, but wanting to help seems now to be her calling.
Luca and Dawn meet at a fountain, he spots her about to faint, catching her before she falls, she tells him that he will be covered in blood soon, and that he needs to be careful.
From there it’s a race against time to find a missing child (it’s a case Luca isn’t working on, but that doesn’t stop him) Luca and Dawn work really well together, and fighting a growing attraction between them.
The interaction between Dawn and her grandmother was fun to read, and between the Phoenix brothers was a laugh a minute.
Will they find the little girl before it’s too late?
Luca Fierro is a Phoenix shifter and Dawn Forest is trying to clean her karma. This is the last of the Fierro brothers to find their HEA and it does not come easily. I loved how Dawn worked so hard to change her life and how Luca looked at who she was now and not who she had been. Of course there is tension and danger as Luca and Dawn work to find a missing girl. Great story line as the Fierro family comes together to welcome Dawn and her grandmother.
I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.
The baby of his family, Luca is also a rebel, going into law enforcement instead of becoming a fire fighter like his brothers and father. An ex-gang member may be a little too much rebellion for him except that she's got a psychic link to a missing child case. Then there's the little supernatural secret he's hiding... Another fun installment in the Fiero brothers stories, contemporary fantasies set in not so ordinary Boston!
Loved this his book about the youngest brother Luca who meets his future mate Dan on the same night his girlfriend dumps him. Dawn helps Luca to grow as a person while he helps her to get in touch with herself and her abilities as a psychic. It was a sweet, lovely love story.
Add to a hot policeman who is a Phoenix shifter a sexy woman who is a psychic and watch the sparks as they solve a mystery and discover each other.
This is the third in the Phoenix series and part of the paranormal series by Ms. Chase. I've read them all and love them. The characters are developed to the point I am drawn to them and the stories are simple and delightful.
This was a fun quick read from Ashlyn Chase.. The characters as always are very likable and the situations that they find themselves in are funny and keep you wanting to read more to see what happens next. A nice escape from reality that will keep you smiling and entertained.
Another fun quick read that you will for sure enjoy if you have read any of the previous books from Ashlyn Chase.
Meh. Had high hopes in the beginning but it fell fast. I was hoping it would be more about the kidnapping and the phoenix aspect of things. But when "Karma" and "Aphrodite" and such were introduced, I got bored real quick. I wanted more of the mystery and less of whatever that karma clean up crap was. Ended up skimming the rest of it.
Book conference swag, the third of three without having read the previous two I gave a chance 'anyway,' not quite my speed, read/skimmed to the end because I'm always too stubborn to DNF.
The subjects are relatively weighty, the romance not easygoing, but the tone throughout has something of a jokey-banter sitcom vibe. I would have taken some relief from that, including getting serious when events were serious; it'd make both stronger. Everyone is always at the ready to cut in with a ribbing aside or get their little sarcastic barb in. (Sourcebooks --or an acquiring editor at said-- really went for those during this time, maybe still.)
He's a shifter and rarely shifts, and rarely even gets at his other self. She's psychic, sort of. Together, they fight crime.
The karma cleaner subplot took over, and wasn't the most interesting or the most promising of the plotlines. It meant the others got the short shrift and were some let down. And I never mind a little magic or allusions to greater beings, but the treatment here was shallow and these elements never quite felt of the world, or meshed.
Because I haven't read the other books in this series, the book winding down to "and everyone together and boisterous and happy in a new enclave, yay!" didn't mean much to me. That's not the book's fault, but it also meant I didn't have the satisfaction of a grand big ending, either.
Action packed, sexy, fun and emotional adventure filled with danger, mystery, magic and passion... was a great read from beginning to end an awesome shifter world. This journey had my heart hooked from the very beginning and made it so hard to put down.
A fun romance. When phoenixes mix with psychics things explode! A quick and straight forward romance. A few little twists and turns in the plot. Loved the ending.
