This new picture book for kids ages 3-7 and beyond is a touching story to show a girl all the ways her mother will help her grow and to remind her of the special bond only she can have with Mom. Featuring charming illustrations and heartwarming rhymes about the moments mothers and daughters share, Why a Daughter Needs a Mom is the perfect story to connect mother and daughter together and wonderful keepsake for a daughter at any age. From the first time I held you, so perfect and new, I promised to do everything that I could do To help you become your most wonderful YOU, My darling, my daughter, my girl. For new moms, mothers-to-be, or for that perfect mother-daughter moment at birthdays and other special occasions all year, this sweet storybook celebrates how a mother is always there for her little girl, reminding her how important she is.
A cute loving read. This book adores a daughter as much as could be. The illustrations are of different mother-daughter animals. They are so cute. My toddler loves looking at them. I love the reminder about looking at the funny side of things during those days when nothing seems to go as planned. Another favorite advice is that it’s okay to have different perspectives.
This book started with a daughter being born and the first time her mom held her. Her mom promised to do everything for her and to guide her to become the most wonderful version of herself. A list of all good qualities a girl should have, her mom will help her love herself. If there are troubles on her journey of growing up, her mom will help her stand up for herself. Anything her daughter aims to achieve, her mom will support. A rhyming read filled with advice, love, guidance, and support. Many good reminders to help motivate a daughter and for her to know that her mom loves her always.
Why a Daughter Needs a Mom was well written and illustrated. Definitely a book to read for both daughters and mom just to remind how much love is between a mom and a daughter. This book gives the positive encouragement vibes. Sometimes a mom is overworked and overloaded with everything that she takes it out on her daughter. Sometimes a daughter snaps at her mom when she doesn’t get what she wants. This book will bring them back together on the same page. There are good advices for both a mother and a daughter and that is to keep arguments rare, to cooperate and compromise. I recommend everyone to read this book!
Cute rhyming, advice and illustrations but doesn't tell a story. Pages could be in any order. Each one is basically separate advice. Also none of it really has to do with the title specifically.

Hello, friends! Our book today is Why a Daughter Needs a Mom, written by Gregory E. Lang and illustrated by Sydney Hanson, an ode to the special relationship between mothers and daughters.
Adapted from Lang’s adult-oriented gift book of the same name, this version combines Hanson’s adorable animal illustrations with sugary-sweet rhyming text that explores all the things moms give their daughters. From a shoulder to cry on to a warm hug, a sense of humor to a sense of style, these word of encouragement and advice show that moms love nothing more than to help their daughters be the best and happiest versions on themselves.
Cute yet bland. Contrary to the title, the text is less examples of why a daughter needs a mom and more a list of life advice for young ones. Yet while the lessons themselves are well-written and occasionally quite touching, nothing other than pronoun choices make them specific to the relationship between mothers and daughters; indeed, values like perseverance, empathy, and patience should be taught by any-gender parents to any-gender children. For this reason, the book feels less like it’s aimed at young bookworms and more like it was written for moms (still, there’s also something slightly off about a book being narrated from the first-person perspective of a mother to her child being written by a man). Hanson’s heartwarming illustrations are the standout, and her adorable parent-child creatures were definitely the main draw for us. Otherwise, the length was fine, and JJ liked the art a lot. Overall, a little disappointing but not bad, and we can still call it Baby Bookworm approved.
Each spread features an adorable cartoon animal parent-child pair on the recto opposite a rhyming verse: “I’ll always support you in giving your all / in every endeavor, the big and the small, / and be there to catch you in case you should fall. / I hope you believe this is true.” A virtually identical book, Why a Daughter Needs a Dad, publishes simultaneously. Both address standing up for yourself and your values, laughing to ease troubles, being thankful, valuing friendship, persevering and dreaming big, being truthful, thinking through decisions, and being open to differences, among other topics. Though the sentiments/life lessons here and in the companion title are heartfelt and important, there are much better ways to deliver them. These books are likely to go right over children’s heads and developmental levels (especially with the rather advanced vocabulary); their parents are the more likely audience, and for them, the books provide some coaching in what kids need to hear. The two books are largely interchangeable, especially since there are so few references to mom or dad, but one spread in each book reverts to stereotype: Dad balances the two-wheeler, and mom helps with clothing and hair styles. Since the books are separate, it aids in customization for many families.
It lost a star because of the title. The title has nearly nothing to do with the message of the book. The message, the heart, which I loved, can be from any parent with a daughter. It isn't just a love letter to a daughter from a mother. And that irked me. But oh did I love the message to the daughter. A book full of wishes and hopes and encouragement, everything you would want to tell your daughter is in here.
This is a really sweet book. I actually prefer the partner book- Why a Daughter Needs a Dad-, but I enjoy reading this to my sweet girl. This one is just as much for the Mamas as for the Daughters and I will be reading this one over and over through her formative years. It’s not just for small children, it’s a reminder that Mama will be here for you always and encouragement for all you can and will be.
This was a book my mom read to me and my sister when we were young so it carries a lot of nostalgia. Its a sweet picture book featuring two adorably drawn bears going through the forest while the mama bear watches over her cub. Again another book I would most likely give as gifts to family members when they have children but not one I would be keeping in my classroom unless I somehow end up in kindergarten.
I’m a sucker for series books that are wonderful for 1 to 5 year old children and this series is no exception. The illustrations are lovely, not quite realistic but not cartoons either. The strike a beautiful balance. Of course seeing happy adult animals with their children is always sweet and touching.
A very sweet book from a Mom to a Daughter on being your best self. A great reflection of how our mom taught us to find the best, challenge yourself, and know that you’re loved. “Make sure, my sweet girl, that you find time each day to dream, to imagine, to read and to play.”
Read this to my daughter on Mother's Day. I got through it okay until the last two lines and became a sobbing mess. Thankfully my daughter is not quite two months old at the moment and so was not disturbed by her mother sobbing and just continued to cuddle with me.
Each page of Why a Daughter Needs a Mom included a different note of encouragement from a mom to a daughter. I wish that the book flowed better/told more of a story, since it seemed like each page could stand alone, but it was a cute book nonetheless.
i just couldn’t not stop the tears from falling as I read this to my daughter tonight. It’s a beautiful book with powerful messages. Absolutely loved it and plan on reading it to her again and again until she tells me to stop 🩷
I think this book is super cute! My niece absolutely loved this one! She loves her mommy and it was so cute to hear her little giggles! I definitely do recommend reading this!
