Mason Turner only has eyes for Lolly Honeymiller. She's vivacious and hilarious and unfortunately thinks of him as her best friend's ex. Lolly's friends cook up a scheme: pretending Lolly is making him over for a special date with his dream girl. The more time he and Lolly spend together, the harder it is to keep his feelings a secret.
Lolly offers to help Mason Turner prepare for a date with his dream girl. Through makeovers, shopping, and practice kissing, she tries to keep her distance but finds herself falling for a man she can never have. As the date approaches, both wonder if they can keep things fake or if the farce will implode and shred both of their hearts.

I love a story that shows that sometimes timing is everything. Mason used to date Lolly's best friend, but now, years later, she's the one who has caught his eye. In this opposite attracts story, Lolly is shown as a notorious flirt who bounces from man to man, while Mason is a sweet and almost bashful guy.
I know I can always count on Checketts to deliver a sweet and romantic story with some sparks and this one is just that. I enjoyed seeing characters from previous stories in the Echo Ridge series make appearances to help Mason prepare to date his dream girl, while Lolly has no clue. This setting is a place that I could settle down in, for sure.
I loved my time spent in these pages and would have loved to have more of the story.
Content: mild romance

This story hit my romantic sweet spot perfectly. I loved the chemistry that was sizzling all around. It was just what I wanted and what I was hoping for when I picked it up. Yummy.
First of all, make sure you read Change of Plans before Counterfeit Date! Change of Plans left me feeling a little sad for Mason. I was so glad to open this one and realize that it was Mason’s story. He didn’t get left out!
Lolly is a really fun character. She’s fun loving and kind. I really loved the way she was concerned that she was going to upset Kaitlyn by dating Mason. She’s a true friend at all times. It was fun to see the way she went all out trying to get Mason ready for his “date” on Saturday night. And she even agreed to go on a blind date of her own. I loved the way it never occurred to her that all of her friends were setting her up.
Mason is such a great guy. He’s the kindest person. I loved the way he was always concerned about what Lolly was going to think when she found out he’d been tricking her all along. It’s a good thing he never had to find that one out!
I loved the cute plot of this one. There were so many parts of it that left me laughing. This one is easily finished in an afternoon. It’s a perfect escape!
This book made me sad. Mason is developed as the most amazing character who you can’t help but be totally in love with and in the last book of the series his heart gets shredded. Was gut wrenching. I had high hopes that his love story would help heal the pain he suffered but I felt like his relationship was not developed enough and felt empty. So disappointed and wishing I felt more connected to lolly, he deserved the love story to trump them all.
What fun! It took me a chapter to realize that Mason was high school Mason from way back in Christmas Makeover from the first Echo Ridge anthology. It seems like I missed the story where he and his high school sweetheart Kaitlyn broke up in college (or where she meets and falls in love with Axel). Now they're all grown up and Kaitlyn is married. She's still friends with Mason who also gets along with her husband Axel.
Okay, got all of that straight? Enter Kaitlyn's other best friend, Lolly, who hasn't seen Mason in about three years. Throw in some sparks and some mistaken thoughts that it would be disloyal to like her best friend's ex and you've got a fun rom com. Lolly is determined to help Mason get ready for his dream date, not knowing it's with her! Kaitlyn keeps telling Mason to play hard to get, but all he wants to do is tell Lolly the truth and kiss her senseless.
It was so fun to see the good guy catch the girl in the end. I give The Counterfeit Date a 4 and Clean rating.
1-5 scale and what it means: 1: I couldn’t even finish it / just plain bad 2: I hope I didn’t pay for this / disappointing 3: I didn’t hate it, but it was still missing something / forgettable but inoffensive 3.5: On the line between good and ok / like, not love 4: Solid mind candy / worth reading 4.5: So very close to perfection! / must read 5: I could not put it down and I’m still thinking about it! / a true treasure
Movie Ratings in relation to my review: Clean--Hallmark movies, some kissing, no nudity, no sex on or off "screen" PG--Some innuendo but nothing kids don't hear every day, sex is all closed door PG-13--some language (swear words not related to sex), more talk about sex, heavy petting, removal of clothing on screen, but sex is closed door. PG-14—somewhere between PG-13 and R. Not erotica, but at least a paragraph of on screen sex R--swearing (F bomb, on “screen” sex, sometimes feels like the whole story is about the sex and not the relationship or some other plot, but not always
I felt so bad for Mason in Cami’s last Echo Ridge story, when Kaitlyn dumped him for Axel. I am happy to see Mason getting his own happily ever after. He deserved it! Lolly is confident and spunky. I loved how she and Mason built each other up. The romantic tension as Lolly helped Mason prepare for a date with his “dream girl” was delicious!
I’m sad to see the end of Echo Ridge, but this was going out on a high note!
Content: clean (some kissing) Series: Part of the Echo Ridge series, but can be read independently
This book was okay. Sometimes the characters in these books kind of make me cringe a little because of some of their choices. For example, "practicing" kissing with someone who thinks you like someone else and they're perfectly okay with it? Until she grows a conscience I guess?😅
It was so nice reading Mason’s happy ending, although really it was just a date and some kissing. I loved how teamwork is what worked! I was sad about how short it was.
Lolly and her friend, Kaitlyn, are partners in a lucrative on-line clothing business. On her way to a store which will actually be carrying their line of swim wear and other clothing, she bumps into Mason, a friend from high school. She's immediately attracted to him but is reluctant to start anything because he and Kaitlyn were an item until 3 years before when Kait dumped him for his best friend. What she doesn't know is that Mason really likes Lolly...a lot! With the help from Jessica and Kaitlyn, Lolly's best friends, they and Mason hatch a scheme to get Lolly, a serial dater, to fall for Mason. Will the scheme work or will it push Lolly away? Ms. Checketts has a way with words and dialogue and a little bit of humor and will keep you enthralled through the entire book.
Just remember some have to kiss a lot of frogs to find Prince charming - think that true this book is for you!
Mason if you read the other books by author Dani Checkets you already feel in love with Jason - really how could you not? How Made is all grown up and a valuable commodity, he just is smart enough not to settle. Polly best friends with Kaitlynn has always loved Jason but sisters never date ex's it's the code. Fait brings them together n chemistry heats up. A little trickery n these two have a mess to clean up. Humor, romance friendship and growing up are all worth the adventure. Violence 1 ( story) sex 1 kissing so romance not steamy.
A great romance story. Mason Turner has figured in all of the stories in the series. In the previous one, he was dumped by Kaitlan. He's come to accept that completely. Now, he has his sights on another woman, Lolly Honeymiller, Kaitlan's best friend and business partner. He turns to Jessica for help wooing Lolly. She, in turn, asks for Kaitlan's assistance which Mason grudgingly accepts. This is, by far, the best story in the series. The banter between Mason and Lolly is light and airy. The attraction is clearly demonstrated. And the conflict is only in their own thinking.
I like the message in this book, that frendship underlies the best romantic relationships. This week of dating remediation gave Mace and Lolly the chance to develop the communication channels for their own personal future. I liked Gentry, Jessica, Kaitlyn and Axel encouraging Mace to woo Lolly via a diversion. Their support of him showed their true love for him, wanting him to find his happiness. I received a free copy of this book in a series collection boxset from the author via BookFunnel and voluntarily chose to share my review.
So fun to watch these two come together with their friends trying to set them up for the perfect date. Lolly is full of spunk and Mason has a heart of gold. He is one of the favorite characters throughout this series. They drive each other crazy as they prepare for this date. Lots of laughs as other characters we know and love from this series add to the story. This book brings all the pieces together. So great to see Mason get his happily ever after.
A cute and very entertaining story about two people who are attracted to one another but aren't sure how to take the next step. She ends up helping him with a makeover so he is ready to date the girl of his dreams.
I felt bad for Mason when I read "Change of Plans" (Book 4 in the Echo Ridge Romance collection). So it was fun to read his happily ever after. And there were a lot of characters from previous books in this series.
Mason really deserves his own story but she's his exs best friend. It's a cute second chance romance . They both want to be together but everyone has an idea and he goes along with the ruse. Fun story.
So cute. A fun, quick read. Clean. Glad Mason got his happily ever after. I liked that he had a plan with help from friends, but when situations arose, he went with his gut.
I This book was really fun and enjoyable to read. This author is really a fantastic writer making each a every one of the stories in this series connecting yet individual.
I loved the way that the author played with emotions of the two main characters . It was a change the the way that she got them together without one of them knowing about it. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a different kind of romance.
