Change the World around You through a Lifestyle of EncouragementFrom the beginning God has been communicating with mankind, just as he did when he talked with Adam and Eve in the Garden. Yet far too many people believe that talking with God is extraordinary when, in fact, it should be an ordinary part of our Christian life. Jesus modeled this two-way conversation. He also embraced a lifestyle of encouragement, changing the atmosphere and lives of people everywhere he went. We can do the same.Full of powerful testimonies and practical application, this book will help you break out of your comfort zone and embrace a lifestyle of encouraging others--just as Jesus did. You will learn how to deepen your relationship with God, open a direct line of communication with him, and share his words with others.
Debbie Kitterman is a breath of fresh air! With a down-to-earth teaching style, she’s both accessible and fun as she unpacks solid Scriptural truths.
As a prophetic encourager, she partners with churches and individuals to realize their spiritual potential. Debbie is passionate about helping people claim their God-given inheritance as partners with Him in the work of the Gospel. Her teachings inspire faith to believe in and expect the impossible. Debbie is an ordained Foursquare pastor currently serving with her husband as senior pastors of Restoration Church in Lacey, Washington. She is the author of Releasing God’s Heart Through Hearing His Voice and an international speaker. She is the founder and teacher of D2HTraining.com, an online course designed to equip believers in releasing God’s heart. She has been married to her high school sweetheart John for 29 years and they have two grown children. Her most recent book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement: Hearing the Words of God for Others, was released by Chosen Books in August 2018.
Debbie Kitterman writes in an engaging, warm style. Her passion for her subject leaps off the pages and wraps itself around you in an encouraging hug. She digs deep into the Word to show support for everything she teaches, and only a couple of times did I feel like the verses chosen were “proof-texting” rather than reasonable examples from the Word (and one of them is just a verse that I see taken out of context in nearly every instance that it’s used, so I wasn’t surprised there).
Each chapter is well-developed and shows careful attention to aiding the reader in embracing the “gift of prophetic encouragement,” including actionable tasks and prayers.
The anecdotes shared didn’t feel stretched to make a point in most places like books so often do. I really appreciated that.
And one of the best things about The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement was that for the first half or so, I found it easy to apply what she taught by simply using the Word of God as “God’s revelation” for another.
Look, I didn’t change my understanding of prophecy in today’s time.
Although I was willing to if the book and the Word convinced me it was so, I still define it for us today as I always have. But for the first half of the book, it didn’t matter. I could learn from Ms. Kitterman fresh and important ways of encouraging others through God’s Prophetic Word—The Bible.
And at that point, I’d decided I would give this book four stars. I liked it. Used how I’d chosen to take it when my understanding of Scripture didn’t change, it was a good book that I liked.
Unfortunately, the second half I found to be harder to get through. It felt like it was dragging and more repeating as if to drive home the points a little harder. To be fair, I think that was me rather than her. The second half leans more to the practice of it rather than why.
And that’s actually where my biggest objection came. In the second half of the book, it felt like “Prophetic Encouragement” was an end in itself rather than a means of building up the body of Christ.
Perhaps this is because the author feels that it’s been so neglected that she swung a little too far on the other end of the pendulum. Or, perhaps it’s just my perception. I don’t know.
This has left me with between three and four stars for it in my mind. If I could do dead middle, I would. Because to be fair, I am not her target market. I think people looking for this teaching would enjoy The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement. As I also said, I was able to apply her teaching to the Word of God as a prophetic encouragement. This is a good thing. She should receive credit for that.
However, for those who are not a part of the charismatic “word of faith” understanding of Scripture and those who find a “sinner’s prayer” style of conversion to be concerning, this isn’t the book I would choose to read to understand it better. I also still struggle with the "release God's heart" line in the synopsis. That seriously bothers me.
I’m not sorry I read it, but I’ve donated the review copy I requested and received to our local prayer house and will wait on the Lord to show me, through His Word, if and where I am wrong
Debbie Kitterman’s class comprised a delightful balance of both brown and white faces, and when she overheard the symphony of Spanish and English conversations, her curiosity was piqued. At the first opportunity, she approached the pastor of the Hispanic congregation that was hosting her class.
“How come half of my class doesn’t speak Spanish?” she queried. “Do they attend your congregation?”
“No,” he replied. “During our joint staff meeting, I mentioned to the pastoral staff I was going to have you come teach my congregation on how to hear from God, so word got out.”
The desire to hear God’s Truth and to encourage others through His Word was strong enough to bridge the gap between two cultures, and if we were honest, this is a bridge upon which we all need to place the soles of our feet. Finding that Christians everywhere need a bit of help getting outside our comfort zones, Debbie Kitterman has shared her own journey along with the good news that God intends for us to build one another up as we speak words of Truth. In The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement: Hearing the Words of God for Others, we find Kitterman’s confidence and fervor flow from years of learning alongside biblical characters like little Samuel that the voice of God in our ears and in our hearts requires action on our part.
God the Holy Spirit is Living and Active Debbie’s ministry trumpets the “freelance nature of the Holy Spirit.” The third Person of the Trinity is living and active, through His Word and in His people. Those who put Him in a box miss out on the full display of His power at work in ordinary people. Furthermore, we are built for connection, for relationship with God and with each other. Living in harmony with the example of Jesus means embracing a lifestyle of encouragement. “Jesus had radical encounters with ordinary people every day. By listening to the Father’s voice and doing what the Father said, Jesus was able to release heaven into the situations and lives of those He encountered.” (21)
When we take the risk of sharing God’s truth with others for the purpose of encouraging them in their walk with God, that movement into obedience may have the domino effect of moving them into obedience as well. As we align our words and our actions with the plumb line of Scripture, we will find ourselves swept up into the bridge-building ministry of a God whose invitation is open and full of hope:
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:18, 19)
Many thanks to Chosen Books for providing a copy of this book to facilitate my review, which, of course, is offered freely and with honesty
This was an interesting book to read. I really don’t know a whole lot about having a prophetic gift, so it was very eye opening from that perspective. But I’m not here to debate my thoughts and feelings on the topic of the book, but rather the writing of the book. So here’s what I thought…….
I appreciated how the author used her personal experiences to teach. It made me easily connect with her and feel as if we were sitting in a group session getting to know one another. She also brought in experiences of people she knew – again another way to make me feel at home while reading. Kitterman supplies lots of bible references to look up, and allows the opportunity for you dive into God’s Word and allow Him to speak to your heart, rather than her telling you what you should believe. I think that is key in any non-fiction book to be honest. We, as believers, need to understand what God is teaching us, not man. When we take what man says to heart without backing it up by referencing our bible, we are really setting ourselves up for some scary things to happen. So this is why I appreciate her offering this to the reader. She also asks some questions that will really make you think about what you’ve read. Some may feel convicting, and some may not. But I think the goal here is to simply open your eyes to what God would have you to know.
I have to disclose that while I may not be 100% on board with the topic, I did find some thoughts and areas for me to further investigate and pray on. I certainly believe that we should encourage others, and sometimes God whispers in our ear, or brings a name to mind of someone who needs encouraging. I think this book could be beneficial to a number of people, for a number of different reasons. If the topic isn’t for you, I encourage you to try out the first few chapters anyways. You may find the Lord speaks to you about something else entirely! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Prophetic Encouragement Review *Chosen Books provided me with a pre-release copy of this book to review for which I am most grateful." I joined the launch team for this book, because I wanted to know more about the subject. I can honestly say Ms. Kitterman did a thorough job in explaining Prophetic Encouragement and how to use and not use it. Her goal was to bring more enlightenment and awareness to hearing God's voice, through the Holy Spirit, so God can connect to others, by using us. Whether it's by using a word, a vision, a dream, or thoughts running across your mind, God is using us as His vessel. And it's not something we need to be afraid to explore in our relationship with Him. I know there are many who call this hogwash or deja vu, and I know there are many fake prophets, who use this as entertainment or for a means for themselves, but that is not how prophetic encouragement is designed. As Debbie says in chapter twelve, page 120, "When giving a prophetic word we need to leave room for people to test the word and hear from God themselves." So it's not about us, it's about them. We are just the vessel. But we have to be open in our relationship with God in order for this to happen. Once again I must say, if you are at all interested or curious about this subject, I recommend getting this book.
For many people the word prophecy triggers strong visceral responses. Sometimes those responses are based on misunderstanding or experiences that were negative, confusing, or hurtful. Sometimes those responses are formed from a hodgepodge of bits of information without a foundation of biblical teaching. Sometimes those experiences create confusion or fear, but I think the Lord would want each of us to understand the truth on this subject.
Whatever your background or understanding, Debbie Kitterman’s new book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, Hearing the Words of God for Others, is a book that includes clear descriptions of what prophecy is, what the Bible says about it in both Old and New Testaments, and her own journey with prophecy. Whatever your own background, this book presents a balanced approach to this topic that demonstrates discernment and wisdom.
It speaks powerfully to the need for and God's desire to provide encouragement, exhortation, and comfort to His children no matter where they are or who they may be.
I think the balanced insight Debbie shares in this book will bless anyone who reads it and allows the Lord to reveal the truth of His heart of love and encouragement for each one of us.
I was thrilled to receive a pre-release copy of this book to review from Chosen Books! The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement is an easy read in the sense that the author writes in a very down to earth manner, including stories and examples to illustrate a theme or topic, but it is definitely not something you can, or want to, just speed read through and shelve it with a "well, that was nice" mind-frame. With thought-provoking questions and activation exercises at the end of each concise chapter, the reader is able to participate and not just spectate.
The key is to not be put off by the word 'prophetic' in the title, as Debbie says, "The truth is we are all prophetic, which simply means we can all hear from God." If you are tired of just reading about great things happening to other people; if you are looking to go to another level in your relationship with God; if you want to see things from a different perspective and do more than just tell someone "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that; I'll pray for you"; then, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, is for you!
The word prophecy for many of us causes a sense of fear and uncertainty. But after reading, Debbie Kitterman’s book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, I learned that prophetic encouragement is for all of us. God calls us into relationship with Him. As we grow deeper into knowing God, our hearts open to receiving the encouragement He has for us. The overflow is then what we have to share with others.
Debbie Kitterman takes the subject of prophecy and teaches us with simple terms as well as practical applications. Debbie shares:
“Prophecy today is not about the prophet; rather, it is about the restoration of communication between the Father and His children through the Holy Spirit. God is personal and alive.”
Ms. Kitterman shares from personal experiences and draws the reader into her process. The reader will leave knowing that he/she is equipped to embrace a lifestyle of encouragement. “We are all prophetic because we all have direct access to God.”
*Thank you Chosen Books for providing me with a pre-release copy of this book.
The world is in dire need of encouragement and this book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, brings the powerful reminder we are called to encourage one another. We can step out, not with our own strength and courage, but because of Whom is with us, in us, and going before us.
In her powerful first book, Debbie Kitterman, shares: “I pray this book would spark an awakening in the body of Christ, an opening of ears to hear the voice of God and a courage to step out in obedience to share His love with the world. It is time, Church, God is calling you. Awaken and arise!”
The gift of prophetic encouragement is explained by the author in a biblical and practical manner so that understanding and application occurs in the lives of readers. Each chapter includes a Go Deeper section. an Activation Prayer, and an Activation Encouragement - which is an action step.
Throughout the book, it is evident that the author’s heart is for all of God’s people to embrace the lifestyle of encouragement. This book was the push I have needed to be braver and step out to action as God directs.
*Chosen Books provided me with a pre-release copy of this book to review for which I am most grateful.
Throughout the past several years, no book has fanned the flame of my passion for following Jesus more than The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement. Debbie Kitterman’s powerful teaching will help you learn how to hear from God for the purpose of encouraging others. She will inspire you to step out of your comfort zone and follow God in speaking his encouraging words to others. Debbie teaches that prophecy is for everyone. You can hear from God, and this book is your guide on the journey of listening for his voice.
When I saw the word “prophecy” in the title of this book, my mind raced to times when I had been hurt or offended by people who claimed to have “words” for me but actually had ulterior motives. Debbie Biblically addresses the misuse of prophecy and provides sound teaching on how to operate the gift of the prophetic and avoid the damaging misuse of this gift. Through powerful activation activities, Debbie guides the reader in hearing from God and bringing his truth to the world. If you want to jumpstart your faith or are feeling spiritually dry in this season, get this book. You will be inspired!
Debbie Kitterman’s book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, has challenged and deepened my faith. Through the power of story, personal testimony and scripture, Debbie has woven together a guidebook and Bible study that explores perhaps the most understood spiritual gift—prophecy.
Whether you’re a Christian unsure that prophecy is a gift for today or a believer hungry for more of the Holy Spirit, this book will meet you where you are in your faith and encourage you to explore the current boundaries of your faith in the presence of a boundless God.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book for personal or group study and for those individuals desiring to speak words of encouragement into the lives of people longing for hope.
I didn’t know anything about prophetic encouragement. Honestly, at first, I felt it was “new age!” However, as I read, prophetic encouragement is about encouraging others and building each other up.
Our whole world is broken, people are broken and relationships are broken. God wants restoration and He uses us to inspire and encourage those around us. This book describes how to hear from God so we can go and encourage others. “The gift of prophetic encouragement is about making a difference and impacting individuals in a way you never thought possible.”
Are you ready to go on an adventure with God? Do you long to know His voice and be an encouragement to those around you? If so, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, is the book for you!
Kitterman’s stories and teachings are captivating, God breathed and easy to understand. She does a great job of demystifying the prophetic and shows how simple it is to walk in hearing God’s voice.
This book not only has great teachings, but is full of activations and tools to equip you to hear God’s voice and share what you’re hearing with those around you.
No matter where you are at in your walk with God, this book is a great read and will help fan the flames of your relationship with Him.
I received an early copy of this book from Chosen Books for being on the launch team in exchange for my honest review.
The word prophecy tends to send people running! And yet, the gift of encouragement is an extension of prophetic words from a loving God. Does God still speak to people today? Absolutely! He uses His Word and His followers to encourage others in their walk of faith or as they seek truth and understanding. Debbie Kitterman, a pastor and bible teacher, shares the journey God has blessed her with in the area of giftings and callings. Debbie, a true encourager, teaches us how to "hear" and how to use those words to build others up in the faith. Ms. Kitterman writes about dreams and how God uses them to show us situations and helps the reader understand what to do with the message and how to share the message with those needing to hear the words. I recommend this book to anyone who desires a deeper understanding of The Word and is looking for clarity in their gift and calling.
This was a non-fiction book about helping people to understand what prophetic encouragement really means. The stories and prayers were very interesting. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This might not be something I would normally pick up. I read numerous books but this one intrigued me. I'm so glad I was given the opportunity to read this book.
I have always believed that GOD has given me a gift of understanding and empathy. I landed up in a job that I didn't plan on but GOD knew it was the one I was destined to have. I worked 28 years as a juvenile probation officer in an inner city.
I retired six years ago from this emotionally exhausting job. I can reflect back and know that I was in the right position. I always prayed to have the right words and being able to say them at the right time. GOD was with me every step of the way.
Occasionally I have heard back from some of my clients. They thanked me and have given me assurance that I accomplished what I set out to do. GOD gave me the words. He gave me the tools. I was his servant...administering the way I could to my clients and their parents.
I appreciated this book and felt that Debbie Kitterman gave me a gift.
I received this free to review.

Guest Post from Debbie If you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer never wavered. As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a wife, a mother, and a writer. As a young elementary age girl, I always had my head in the clouds dreaming up different stories. In fact, every Sunday afternoon after church I would be found with my notebook writing creative short stories and poetry while pretending to watch old westerns or kung-fu movies with my dad. I always dreamed I would write historical fiction stories with a splash of romance thrown in. I love historical fiction and it blends the two subjects in school that I loved, history and creative writing. However, through life’s circumstances and disappointments in college, I gave up on the writing dream. I let the dreams of one day being a writer slip away. I figured it must have been a little girl dream so I set it aside and moved forward through life. However, when God has a plan, there is no running from Him. I felt a stirring in my heart to write again after taking a trip to Wyoming and meeting a well-known fiction author. I came home from that trip and started writing only to hit a wall … the dreaded writers block and an uncertainty of what to do. Then the busyness of life took over and I again shelved the dream of writing. God let me go only so far, and then He began to stir me again. This time, He had other people confirm that yes, indeed it was time I stop running and start writing. I love how God is relentless and patient all at the same time. Never in a million years did I think that I would be an author of non-fiction books. The book “The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement: Hearing the Words of God for Others,” shares my journey of faith leading me to a deeper relationship with God. God not only longs to have His children speak to Him, but He longs to speak to us. Real relationships entail two-way conversation. God longs for His people to use all the gifts He has given them. This gift of prophetic encouragement is for everyone. It is simply sharing Holy Spirit-inspired words of edification, exhortation, and comfort to people as we go about our day-to-day life. Every Christ follower needs to follow the example of Jesus and operate in this profoundly encouraging gift. The Gift of prophetic encouragement breathes life, love and hope into the dry places of our lives. I invite you to join me on an adventure as we go deeper in our relationships with Jesus and discover how God will use us as a gift of encouragement. May we all rise to the challenge and dare to hear God today, so we can be a gift of encouragement to others. I really enjoyed this book. It teaches us about listening to God and how hearing Him can empower our life and the lives of those around us. It is a book full of personal stories and encouragement, all bound by biblical truth. At the end of each chapter there is a relevant prayer and an activity to work through should you wish. This is a clear, concise guide explaining the gift of prophecy. Thank you Chosen Books for providing me with a free copy of this book for an honest review.
I knew from the title of this book that I was in for a journey that would reacquaint myself with Jesus and the gift that he has given me. I didn't know for the longest time why I would get this message and feel the need to write it down. I never shared it with anyone but my husband. I wasn't sure if it was from God or was it just my own thoughts being shared. I knew in my spirit that God had spoken to me and wanted me to share what He had said but I was scared of what people would say.
I liked the different examples the author shares of people in the bible who heard God speak to them. Sometimes we doubt that God is speaking to us and wander around lost and miss what He has for us. I remember the story of Samuel as the author talks about him in the book. When Jesus spoke to him, Samuel didn't recognize his voice. How many times have we heard God speak to us but still doubted it truly was Him?
The author does a good job of explaining what prophecy is and how it operates within each of us. The first time I heard someone speak in tongues, I freaked out. Then immediately another person interpreted what was just said. I was so confused I was ready to run out of the church. That day I was introduced to prophecy and I wanted to know more about it. One thing I have learned over the years is to be careful who wants to speak words over you. I am always careful when someone says they have a word for me from God. We all have heard about "false prophets." Yes they are out there and God cautions us to discern what is truly words from Him.
I liked that the author talked about the five fold ministry. Each one is not more important than the other, but are designed to work together as one. We are meant to work as a team to spread His word, encourage each other and operate with confidence in the gifts that He has given us.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Paul tells us we are to be eager to prophesy. (I Cor 14:39) We might wonder what that means. Kitterman helps us understand one aspect of the gift of prophecy as encouragement. We speak Holy Spirit inspired words of edification, exhortation or comfort to others. She takes readers through her own experiences of moving into prophetic encouragement. She helps us develop hearing from God, understand the testing of prophecy, and the potential dangers and misuses we may experience.
Kitterman says we all have the gift of prophecy but I am not so sure. Paul says in I Cor. 12:9-10 that it is a gift some are given, just as some are given other gifts. Paul says in Rom. 12:6-8 that we each have different gifts, mentioning prophecy as one of them and encouragement as another.
Kitterman concentrates on the encouragement aspect of this gift only. I think there are also other aspects of this gift, such as pointing out sin and an insight into the future, that she does not cover. Yes, we are to encourage one another daily. (Heb. 3:13 NIV) But Paul distinguishes the gift of prophecy from the gift of encouragement in Romans 12:6-8. To reduce the gift of prophecy to only the encouragement aspect makes it indistinguishable from the different gift of encouragement.
I recommend this book to Christians who desire to learn how to encourage others with words from God. You find many personal stories and fledgling experiences to encourage you. If you are looking for a more comprehensive exploration of all the aspects of the gift of prophecy, you may have to look elsewhere.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Have you ever experienced God moments? When someone comes up to you and says something so deeply personal without realizing it, that it can only come from God? When a stranger prays words over you that touches your deepest longings, longings you have not shared anyone? I have been the recipient of such encouragement at the most unexpected times in my life and it has profoundly affected my faith. It's as if the God of the universe reached down from Heaven and breathe life and hope into my weary bones. The truth is we all long to be known and seen by God in our every day life, but especially in our struggles.
Debbie Kitterman's book dispels the myths about what the gift of prophetic encouragement is and what it is not. Prophetic encouragement begins with deepening our own relationship with God. We can only embrace a lifestyle of divine encouragement by spending time in God's Word, enriching our understanding of His character and obediently listening to what He is calling us to do. Part of our calling is to be an encouragement to others. "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up." 1 Thessalonian 5:1 This is when God is most glorified, when we take the time to speak life into another heart and to point them towards the Father.
I absolutely love this book! I have always tried to offer encouragement to others. This book has challenged me to be even bolder, to bravely speak words of encouragement to others as prompted by the Holy Spirit. We can all be the gift to share the heart of our Heavenly Father, a heart that overflows with the amazing love of our Savior.
“The prophetic gift of encouragement is about making a difference and impacting individuals in a way you may never thought possible. “ page 80
The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement by Debbie Kitterman is a must be read Christian interest book for those who want to experience more of God in their life. This book is written in an easy format to understand the gift of prophetic encouragement by sharing a word with another to encourage, strengthen and enlighten the individual when they feel God’s spirit speaking to them to share what He impressed upon them to say. To be an encourager an individual must slow down, seek and listen for God to use them with this gift He has for each one, if they are a willing vessel. The chapters are easy to read that are followed by a section go deeper, activation prayer, activate encouragement and/or encouragement in action based upon the topic of the chapter. There’s plenty of Biblical illustrations along with the author’s personal journey and testimonies of others experiencing the prophetic gift of encouragement. Readers will come away with an appreciation for Kitterman’s passion for God’s children to be open to prophetic encouragement. This book is perfect for individuals to study a chapter for a few days or a weekly small group Bible study.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author for her book tour with Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write a positive review but have shared by honest opinion.
The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement is an amazing book that challenges you listen to God’s words and open up to what He is showing us. The author shows us the scriptures that point out the many times God uses ordinary people to change lives by a prophetic word. Sometimes, a person comes to your mind and you think about them all day, but don’t understand why you can’t get them out of your mind. Ms. Kitterman teaches us ways to listen to God, and use the words and pictures he gives us to encourage someone who might need a kind word, has a decision to make, or simply make them feel that God is with them through the good and the bad.
If you believe in God and his powerful works, this book is for you. It will challenge and equip you to do what God intends for us. It is instructive, gives examples, activities, and shows supporting scriptures for prophetic words that have been used by ordinary people throughout the Bible. It would be wonderful for individuals, Bible study groups, or classes in any setting. Debbie’s writing style makes you feel like she’s in the room with you. Her words are educational, comforting and biblically sound all at the same time.
When you read The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, you will really hear the words of God and use them for others and be blessed by it! And it is a book you will read over and over and then buy it for your friends! Helpful
The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement "by Debbie Kitterman is another tool that God has used to show me that He wants me to follow Him more closely and look to Him and not the world. The author explains what prophecy is and why we all need to operate in it, especially Encouragement prophecy. She explains the difference between the Old testament prophecy and New Testament prophecy. The author goes into great details about the right and wrong way to deliver the prophecies you hear.
This is a book that cover a lot of info but it is written in easy to follow language and isn't technical like a text book. I am going to keep this book handy to reread over again because I didn't really study and take it all in because I was reading it for the blog tour. My thoughts are; this is another book all christians should read. There is a section at the back of the book on how to enter into a relationship with God and one on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
After each chapter there is a section " Go Deeper," and an activation prayer to pray and a section to activate encouragement. These are all doable and I think they would be easy to follow. I intend to do these in the near future and hopefully be able to share some great testimonies and great results and bring honor to Jesus.
I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.
A helpful handbook for those seeking to hear from God, this nonfiction guide shares how to hear God’s message and offers a multitude of examples of listening and learning to discern God’s voice and share His words with others. I found it informative and encouraging. The author uses Scripture to support her teaching. She explains what prophecy includes—speaking God’s words. I found many great quotes within the text, such as “Discernment is not a feeling!” and “God gave us the gift of prophecy to reveal His nature.” She begins by explaining that Jesus teaches believers have direct access to the Father. We do not need others as a go-between. But we can interfere with the communication. She shares how to be clear the message is correct and how to test to make sure. I appreciated her honest anecdotes and vulnerability. Prayers are included with the stories. The book made me want to draw closer to the Lord and learn to hear from Him better. The one thing I would suggest would be not to place the “Encouragement in Action” sections on a gray background with small font and tiny print for the prayers there. It was hard for me to read. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
I just finished reading The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement and I am excited to give this book a big 5 STAR review!
The word prophecy is an enigma to many, even those within the church. In this book Debbie Kitterman takes us along on her journey of trying to understand her own intuitive-from-childhood nature and her exploration of what Biblical prophecy is all about. In the book she teaches about the four different types of prophecy, backed by Scripture, then zeros in specifically on “prophetic encouragement.” She explains clearly why ALL of us are to be prophetic encouragers.
I love all the personal stories interwoven throughout the book as well as the activation prayers and hands-on exercises that help us step out in giving encouraging words to those we come in contact with daily. So many are in need of encouragement today and what greater thing than to learn to hear God’s voice for those in need? “When we encourage others, we literally put courage into them.”
This book, filled with well-balanced Biblical teaching, is for anyone who has ever had questions about what prophecy is and how it can be used today.
Debbie’s heart to share God’s love is unmistakable throughout her book. If you’re like me and experienced hurts in the church from “prophetic” people, let me tell you - this book made me laugh, cry, and heal. Debbie unabashedly sets the record straight once and for all what prophecy is, what it isn’t, and (most importantly) what God says about it.
“The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement” is the breath of fresh air that reignites the coals in our spirit through real-life stories of those who live and operate in the prophetic. But Debbie doesn’t stop there - this isn’t just about reading! Like the old proverb, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you’ll feed him for a lifetime,” Debbie’s book challenges us to go deeper and learn for ourselves how God is speaking to us personally; teaching us how to receive daily a lifetime of encouragement from God for us and for others!
I highly recommend this book for anyone who ever has unanswered questions about prophecy in the Church, the Holy Spirit, or anyone who is ready to go deeper in their relationship with God.
Compelling, fascinating, informative, encouraging and exhorting. Simply said, here is an opportunity for the reader to learn how to listen to the voice of God and be enabled to “make a difference and impact individuals in a way you may never have thought possible.” Exciting stuff indeed! The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement is an excellent Christian resource that provides a wealth of information about the who, what, where, when, why and how of prophecy. The author offers several definitions but the simplest being that the gift of prophecy is “hearing the words of God for others” and indicates this is a gift intended for everyone! In addition, this volume includes a how-to for strengthening one’s relationship with God in order to hear Him more clearly, and for the best utilization of this specific spiritual gift to encourage others in the way best able to meet their unique needs.
I highly recommend this book and taking the time necessary to implement the Activate Encouragement sections. This one has potentially life-changing results!
I didn’t know I needed this book. I’ve followed Jesus for 22 years, I’m a pastor and a leader, and had apparently gotten so caught up in everyday life that I’ve let slip by so many opportunities to pause and listen for God to speak. From the moment I opened “The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement,” I began to listen and hear from God in ways that I haven’t in a long time. Only hours after reading the first few chapters, I was able to put into practice what I was reading and share some encouragement with a friend. I left our meeting feeling excited, and my friend was reminded of God’s care.
If you’re wanting to speak encouragement and hope into the lives of people you encounter, I highly recommend this book. You can’t read it and not be changed.
I’m so grateful to Chosen Books who provided me with a pre-release copy of this book to review.
Debbie Kitterman's book, The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement, has given me a new and biblical view of hearing the voice of God. One that I thought should be true all along. I am so thankful for her words that have opened my eyes and given me a gift. The gift of being able to see the gifts of the Spirit in a whole new light. The light of Jesus. I will forever be grateful for this!
The theme throughout The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement is; God loves you and wants to speak to you. He wants a deep and intimate relationship with you. He wants to lead you with His words. He wants to use you to encourage others for his glory.
Do you long to hear God's voice? Do you want to be used by God to encourage and edify others? Then The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement by Debbie Kitterman is definitely the book for you!
This book is a must read! It's such a great tool to demystify the prophetic. This book tackles a current buzzword and delivers it in a relevant way for everyone! It gives practical tools and testimonies on operating and understanding God's voice to encourage others.
The Gift of Prophetic Encouragement will give you the courage to slow down, listen for what God is telling you, and then to bravely share that word, that is for others with them. Debbie also courageously addresses the very realness of guarding against the dangers of the prophetic and how to walk in the truth that God desires of His people. Chosen books did provide me with a pre-release copy of this book to give my honest opinion. The above statement is my true opinion of this book.
My friend Debbie Kitterman has written the Gift of Prophetic Encouragement. It has been a blessing in my life. Not only does Debbie write about the gift, she writes about how to restore your relationship with God. This is my favorite part of the book, besides the fact that she doesn't make the gift of Prophetic encouragement over spiritual. It is just waiting on the Lord in prayer to give you an encouraging word for someone. Today is the launch day of the book. You can find it at your major book dealers near you. I pray that you would buy the book and experience being the gift. https://youtu.be/_iO50zPvTHg
