The summer Maesyn Calhoun turns eighteen, she assumes the rest of the summer will be spent on her parents' ranch. That's until champion bull rider Grayer Easton returns home. She's warned to keep her distance, but there's something about Grayer's harsh dismissal that brings out her most forbidden desires. Giving her a glimpse into the wild and explosive life he lives, Maesyn's plans change. A road trip, a different town every night... what's not to love when you're wild-hearted and a wandering soul? Grayer Easton tames raging bulls in the daredevil world of professional bull riding. The last thing he expects is to be held hostage by untamed and reckless Maesyn. Protective to a fault, he's loyal and determined. He doesn't need unpredictability in his life. With a need to explore the unknown, Maesyn lives life like there's no tomorrow. It's something Grayer's never allowed himself to do. Up against the biggest ride of his career, he can't ignore that Maesyn ignites something deep inside him. Sparks fly between them until an injury threatens to end Grayer's career, and Maesyn's definitely the distraction he doesn't need. With rebel blood and a ruthless heart, their love is untamed, wild, and passionate. Can they hang on for longer than eight seconds? BXTCHES Gotta Warn: Not much of a warning, but this is a stand alone, though I wouldn't be mad at a BXTCH if others from this book (ahem. . .Haylee and Ty) gotta a little love with their own title. It is important to note, that once you start this crazy ride, it is gonna prove hella difficult for you to jump off, so allot some time in your schedule, if you catch my drift. Now enjoy the wild and carefree passion that is Maesyn and Grayer. Oh and on a side note, let's take a moment of silence to appreciate all of the greatness that is that cover.

Untamed will be told in two parts and both parts are told through the POV's of Maesyn and Grayer.

Let's kick things off with our leading lady, Maesyn. Maesyn is days away from turning 18 and hopefully the same amount of days away from being able to set her inner gypsy free. I wouldn't necessarily say that Maesyn has a tortured soul, but she definitely has a very conflicting one. She appreciates the work ethic her dad drilled into her, but like any teenaged girl, wants to know her dad's softer side and see pride in his eyes when he looks at her but she has yet to feel that from him. She has a reputation that is certainly not earned, but she doesn't do much to dispute either. She has some past demons that could be holding her back that she hasn't yet learned how to break free from. So when she spots hometown boy and world champion bull rider, Grayer Easton at a local party, little does either one of them know that they could very well be the missing piece to each others puzzle.

Grayer Easton has some loose ends to tie up in the town that turned its back on him and his brother years ago. Things were supposed to be simple, take care of some family obligations and head back home to Decatur, Texas to get ready for his next competition, but once he sets sights on Maesyn Calhoun, things may never be the same again. When he finds out that she is only 17, he knows he has to stay away and he does, sometimes very abruptly, but once the calendar adds another year to her age, all bets are off. He knows she's more than the bad reputation that seems to precede her and even though he has tried to resist and even though his time in town is short, not only will he have a taste of Maesyn, he's gonna be sure that she sees herself not only the way that he does, but the way in which she deserves.

Part one takes place in Ellensburg, Washington and it's also where we get to watch Maesyn begin to discover what she's worth and where she learns to not settle for anything less. It's where she realizes that Grayer may not be her forever, but he's the one that set her on the path to this discovery. Part two is a different discovery, but no less important. It's passion and carefree and the life that most 18 year olds dream about, but never have the guts to pursue. It's a road trip with your BFF, both literally and figuratively. It's the memories made that shape who you become and the heartache you experience that force you to question who you are, but most importantly it's the love you find that you realize you always deserved. Untamed is going to take you for one wild ride (all puns intended) and it is worth every high and low. . .just hang on tight, because it's gonna be a long eight seconds.

Just like with any Shey Stahl book I have read, the supporting cast that she delivers plays an almost equally important part to the characters that take on the main role. It was the relationships between Maesyn and those around her that resonated with me the most. Her relationship with her father was so strained and at times heartbreaking, but a relationship that our teenaged selves can probable relate to, and while the relationship with her dad was turbulent, it was balanced with the relationship she had with her mom and younger sister, Morgan. And speaking of Morgan, I'm not sure who Shey Stahl models some of her characters after, but the way she is able to conjure up a child is brilliant. . .in fact I should encourage you visit with Nova in Unsteady if you doubt any of what I'm claiming. I won't give away the fabulousness that is Morgan, you'll just have to make that discovery on your own. But it wasn't just Maesyn's relationships with those in her family that jumped out at me, but her BFF Haylee and even the relationships she formed that proved to be unhealthy. . .it was the way all of these relationships shaped her. . .that's what you will feel when the last page is turned and that's what Shey Stahl is a master at accomplishing.

Even though there was nothing about this story that was controversial (in my opinion), I should point out that when Untamed starts, Maesyn is just 17 years old, days away from turning 18, but it is when she is still 17 that she makes the decision to give Grayer some lovin' via her mouth. Now, in fairness, she did tell him that she was legal. . .but let's talk about the good stuff once she did in fact turn 18. We are talking about sex with a bull rider, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Grayer had the moves to do more than impress Maesyn and her lady bits and those of us living vicariously with our imaginations, but even I can say that the chemistry between the two of them was purely electric and would've set the pages on fire, if that feat was possible.

Maesyn is the epitome of what an 18 year woman should be. She represents the transition into adulthood superbly and even though her positive attributes are pretty typical of a fantastic leading lady, it's the ones that are at odds with what we deem proper. I love the flawed heroine that Stahl is so imaginative with conjuring up. . .that is what makes Maesyn so relatable. She is fierce and independent and vulnerable and feminine and funny. She's a phenomenal best friend and a wonderful big sister. . .she knows what she wants and doesn't makes no apologies and what I loved the most was the support that she lacked from her dad, she got ten times over from her mom.

As you may or may not know, my love affair with Shey Stahl is fairly new, but if she didn't have me hooked before Untamed, she would've had me after and I'm about to let you in on why. I bitch a lot about living in Texas and if you have ever been to the Lone Star state in the dead of summer, surely you understand this BXTCH's love/hate relationship with it, but not only am I a Texas girl at heart, but country music is the soundtrack of my soul and to see the songs and artists that were the inspiration behind some of the moments in this book, made that soul smile. And it wasn't the current artists that made me giddy, it was Neal McCoy and Sawyer Brown and Travis Tritt and Joe Diffie and Mighty Merle and The Judds and Patty Loveless. . .and I can't express through words how excited I was when Clay Walker was mentioned, I could really keep going, but these were the artists of my youth, some are the reason I fell in love with country music. I mean she had "Dumas Walker" by The Kentucky Headhunters on her playlist. Now, that song drove me crazy as a teenager, but mainly because it was played constantly and a little because it took me a minute to figure out that they were saying "Dumas" and not "Do Miss", we didn't have the internet back then, we had to decipher it ourselves and then hold onto hope that we were singing the right lyrics. My only negative note to Ms. Stahl is her use of In-N-Out Burger, while that chain has began to pop up in the south, it is and always will be Whataburger. And feel free to verify this with any true Texan.

Fun fact about me. . .when I was younger, like way younger, like 5/6 years old, my favorite movie was Urban Cowboy and 36 years later, still one of my all time faves. Don't be alarmed, it was the early 80's and parents back then let their kiddos do crazy things like ride around the neighborhood on their bikes with only the sun dictating when it was time to come home or watch movies such as Urban Cowboy or Porky's (a story for another day). In fact, my family could probably tell you just how much I irritated the fuck out of them when I decided anytime was a good time to belt out the lyrics to "Lookin' for Love" as loud as my tiny lungs would allow. And even today, so many, many years later, if I hear any song from that soundtrack, I'm overwhelmed with nostalgia and a time where I fell in love with cowboy named Bud and the woman who loved him named Sissy. Even at my tender age, I was enamored by that love. And even though Untamed is set in a different era and around different circumstances and no where near a honky tonk, when I really began to get into the depths of this book, is was about a girl finding her cowboy. . .a Sissy finding her Bud.

I've read five of Stahl's thirty books (Unsteady, Shade, Tiller, Love Complicated, and Untamed) and this is just the second book that I've actually put words down about, Shade being the first (see those thoughts here). It's not that I didn't fall head over feet in love with every book my imagination has had the pleasure in absorbing, it just that this BXTCH is sometimes lazy, which is why I just finished Untamed and knew I had to get my thoughts down. Each of the books by Stahl that I have read, have hit me differently, but all in a way that is toe curling delicious. And if I'm being honest, I thought Shade was gonna be the bar by which I measure her work, it had everything I love about being swept away by a book, and while I was expecting to love Untamed, I wasn't expecting for it to shoot to the top of the list, but it captivated me in a way that can only come when you find a really, really good book. There are so many things to love about the way Stahl writes. . .there aren't many authors who are able to write the characters in a way that a relationship is built between the reader and the ones leading the story, they talk to you in a very conversational manner. . .but her storytelling goes beyond that, I know not the first thing about professional bull riding, other than what I've seen in the movie Eight Seconds, but she was able to force the reader into an appreciation of a sport that they may not have ever given consideration to prior.

I very seldom read acknowledgements in a book, I'm not sure if that makes me a bitch or not, but for some reason I decided to continue with the page turning after "The End" was read and learned that this was actually a rewrite for Stahl and also learned that it was with the help of Garth Brooks and his Ultimate Hits that made this possible, which I'm happy to hear, because deep inside my country girl soul, the relationship between Maesyn and Grayer is very reminiscent of Garth Brook's Shameless and a small piece of me hopes that it's the same for Stahl. I'm not privy to the drama that seemed to surround Stahl back in 2013 and even though a part of me is super curious, I also know that I'm just grateful she was able to overcome it and still be inspired enough to share her gift. I love to read and I read a lot of good books, but there is only a handful of authors that can truly reach in and grab my soul and in our very short, albeit one-sided relationship, Shey Stahl has been able to do that each and every time and since I haven't said it yet, thank you for that.

"Life is your story and death is a sentence only to be defined by living your best life"

Have you ever finished a book and then were immediately very sad because there was not more words to read? That was me when finishing Untamed...like staring at the wall thinking.. huh well what am I supposed to read now?...Untamed was one of those books (for me at least) that I felt like some of Shey Stahl's words, quotes and this story.. I just needed and it got me in all the feels.

Maesyn has a wild heart and is more than ready to leave her small town behind her with her best girl Haylee and never look back.; she just needs to turn 18 first. The thing is Maesyn is burdened with some serious guilt and instead of facing it she's accepting way less than she deserves. She knows she's ready to be wild and free and never look back.. Meeting Grayer was never part of her plan..
Grayer also had a plan; come home, settles his father's debts and get the hell out of his home town. He never anticipated meeting Maesyn and he certainly was not prepared for a connection like theirs.

"If it sets your soul on fire, be fearless"

Untamed is a story of friendship, finding yourself, love & family and it will certainly get you in all the feels. Please read Untamed; I hope that you enjoy it as much as I did.

Untamed was a wild ride that I would take again and again! Grayer Easton is an oh so swoon worthy Pro bull rider. I mean he's determined, loyal, sexy, confident , passionate, funny, gentlemanly and cocky at the same time.....hello he's a bull rider he has to be somewhat cocky ;). Maesyn Calhoun is a radio punching, barefoot wearing rain dancing kinda girl she's wild and free, fun and sassy and just wants to experience life and see where it takes her. I felt a connection to her and her lack of shoe wearing ways. The chemistry between these two is undeniable! Not only are the main characters amazing, but Shey, you have this way of making the background ones be not so background. Haylee, the best friend, Morgan the little sister (lmao), Ty and Reid Grayers brothers, I just couldn't get enough of them! Hell, even that belt buckle had a personality of its own!!!! Hands down, this is my top read of 2018! LOVED IT!

Bullriders do it better!

“It’s not that picture I’ll remember. It’s the way his grip on my hip felt and the warmth that radiated through me when he whispers, “I have a thing for dirty mouth girls who run around barefoot.” ⠀
I kiss his raw knuckles where he got his hand pinned between the bull he rode in the short go and the chute. And then I brush my fingers over the cut on his cheek where Cochise got him with his horn. “I have a thing for cold restless eyes and battle wounds.”

“Cowboy up?” And he whispers, “Come find out.” 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥

“Untamed” is the latest release by the incredibly talented Shey Stahl. I’m a huge fan of Burn, Shade and Tiller and wondered how Untamed would compare. I mean, sexy AF bull riders, smoking hot firemen and crazy sexy motocross riders? ⠀
⠀
But, damn, did Shey deliver the goods! ⠀
⠀
Grayer and Maesyn’s chemistry is explosive, all consuming, an overwhelming force that demands to be noticed. Maesyn is wild, a free spirit while Grayer is controlled and lives his life chute to chute, ride to ride. Together, they are ignite like wild fires.

I inhaled this book over the last four hours. I just couldn’t put it down. I won’t spoil it for you but you need to read Untamed! I am now a little bit obsessed with hot bull riders and will never look at belt buckles the same way.

Title: Untamed
Author: Shay Stahl
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 5/5

ARC received in return for an honest review.

Untamed is one wild ride you’ll want to take over and over again.

Free spirited Maesyn is a young woman on the cusp of adulthood, she’s been living her live somewhat unfocused yet fully whilst dealing with guilt over the death of her first love when she meets Grayer a pro bull rider during the summer she turns eighteen.

The attraction between pair is intense, Greyer’s a few years older than Maesyn, and for that reason alone he holds back on taking things any further with her but when she turns eighteen all bets are off and it’s game on, and trust me when I say you will NOT be disappointed....

Hitting the road with her best friend and on a whim she follows he heart and Grayer as chases his dream of winning yet another championship, along the way she’s determined to prove to Grayer that he can indeed have it all, a relationship and his career.

Shay takes us on an amazing adventure where I swear to you, I could feel the rain, smell the surroundings and hear the crowds.

For me personally this has been one of Shay’s best books yet, it’s definitely worth more than “8 seconds” of your time. READ, LEARN and LOVE, 5 well deserved stars out of stars🤩

This is my first book by Shey Stahl and after reading Untamed I am a huge fan. This book is one of those stories that finds its way under your skin and deep in your heart. The only way to describe these two characters is Grayer was the moth and Maesyn was his flame. Untamed is one of destiny, connection and hearts that beat as one. Grayer is a PBR bull riding champion and a man with one vision for his life until a distraction by the name of Maesyn causes that vision to blur and see only her no matter how hard he tries to push her away. Their story will at times break your heart, make you angry, feel the pain but it will be the soul stealing love that will take your breath away. Untamed will give you the thrill like watching the bull rider reach that eight seconds, it will have you hooked, hung up and feeling like you are about to be bucked off. Grayer and Maesyn's story is about discovering your worth, finding your freedom and learning to love. This is a story that you don't want to end, you want the words to continue just to spend more time with these two characters and embrace the love and devotion that radiates from the pages.

Untamed takes you on a carefree journey, Maesyn has been counting down till she turned 18 forever then she meets the serious Bull rider Grayer. Finding out Maesyn is only 17, Grayer pushes her away and tries to distance himself. Their attraction and to each other grows with each day and they can’t deny each other any longer. When it’s time to leave and go back to his life, he is torn at leaving Maesyn behind. Will she follow him to start their journey or have they had their 8 seconds.

Shey has done an amazing job with this book, this is completely different to her previous writing style. I really enjoyed the Bull riding side of this novel as I have never read anything about it before, having parts of the sport defined at the start of each chapter was a brilliant addition.

I really hope that this is the start of a series for Shey, I would love to read more about Grayer’s brothers.

Loved it!

I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. The main characters and the way they came alive on page drew me in immediately. Maesyn is a person with a free spirit attitude about her. She lived life fully and aimlessly. I loved how she was strong willed and feisty when she got riled up in terms of defending herself or those she loved. Grayer was much the same way as being a protector so much so that he put their needs before himself. He was career and goal driven but had a serious outlook on life due to having to go through some hard knocks in life.
Even though there was a slight age difference, they balanced each other out. The chemistry was amazing and the interaction kept me wanting to read page after page. I loved reading this book and hated when it came to an end. Awesome read and two thumbs up!

Wild hearts and starry nights

Gypsy soul Maesyn, struggling with past guilt over a lost first love, Maesyn lives her life with passion and being wild and carefree. Everything changes the summer she turns eighteen and meets PBR Grayer Easton. On a whim to experience what the open road offers she follows her heart and Grayer to see what's ahead. Grayer Easton, goal driven and one thing on his mind winning another championship, will this carefree gypsy soul show him that he can have his soul mate and still be a champion
Shey has done it again, her story telling us amazing I felt that I was on the adventure with Maesyn throughout the book I honestly could not put it down. I cannot wait for the next adventure that Shey has for her readers!!!

Eight Seconds MEETS THE LONGEST RIDE 🤠🐃

I’m in a southern cowboy mood and I read this in one sitting thinking of Scott Eastwood the ENTIRE BOOK BCCC 🤤🤤

Maesyn is seventeen years old ready to leave her hometown in a few days after birthday but before that happens she meets world champion bull rider Grayer Easton

I adored Maesyn’s character and Grayer so much, it was such a sappy love story but what erked me the most was the “slut shaming” when Grayer said to her BCCC WHAAT, he’s had just as many partners 🙄
Also the whole “you’re a distraction, I don’t need a relationship “ bullshit but that didn’t stop me from reading. I was hooked and there characters personality was written great. I adore Shey Stahl and most of her Standalones and this cowboy themed did the trick for me

Warning; she is seventeen when she performs oral on him but of course that didn’t bother me but if it bothers it NOW YOU KNOW 🥱

4/5⭐️ 3/5🔥

A couple of the scenes after the detailed written scenes start to fade to black it’s a 2.5 but really 3🔥 with that bonus content we got 🤠

Experience Untamed

Shey Stahl has out done herself with this book on many levels. First, Untamed is really a book where Maesyn knows the life she has grown up in is. It what she wants but also knows she has loads of potential. Grayer and Maesyn have a love they truly have to fight for to move forward.

I have to say I love how Stahl introduces readers to the world of bull riding. As someone who grew up in the rodeo and rough stock world, Stahl allows the reader to experience it and understand the sport at a deeper level. Also, she does a great job making Grayer know age limits and respect them!

I cannot day enough to read this book well more than a 5 star read. You will love it!

Grayer and Maesyn meet out in the country at a party. The two had instant pull to each other but because of Maesyns age Grayer held back. But then she became 18. And lord have mercy do you not want to miss what happens!

As I’m read this book, I felt transported back in time. I grew up and still live in a small town and the bonfire parties that Maesyn and Hannah went too brought so many memories back. The music. Oh man the music is my high school senior year! Except for the Pistol Annies lol but dang I connected to much with the book. Felt the same way about wanting to leave this town. I left but unlike Maesyn I came back!

I feel as though Shey could give us more of Grayer and Maesyn and let me say I really hope so!!! I really liked this book!!!

Untamed is the perfect summer read— a wild emotionally-charged journey of self-discovery that leaves no part of your heart untouched! Maesyn sets out across country following the pull of youthful wanderlust and the intriguing hotness that is Grayer Easton. The story that follows Maesyn and Grayer is a non-stop tale of finding oneself while learning how love and perseverance can ultimately overcome some of life’s biggest challenges. I’ve come to realize that nobody writes extreme sports badboys and the women strong enough to love them quite like Ms. Stahl. Also, how gorgeous is the cover of this book?!

This book held me for the ENTIRE 8 seconds!!!!

Provided ARC in return for honest review.

What an AMAZING book! I felt like this was a different style of writing for Shey. This was more of an emotional love story about two characters finding out about love through each other. Don't get me wrong, there were funny and sexy moments that had you either needing to put your kindle down to get a cold drink or reading faster to find out what happened next, but in the end, I felt there were more self-reflections and love connections that drew me in. I devoured this book and hope to see more from this family but if not, I feel satisfied with where it left off. Great job Shey!!!!!

I don't think I have ever read about a more free spirited character than Maesyn. I absolutely adored her and her outlook on life. She lived life to the fullest, even if she didn't know where the road was going to take her. All she knew was that it was going to take her clear across the country to Grayer Easton. They had this connection and bond that formed in such a short amount of time, that she didn't want to live her life with the regret of not following her heart.

And what can I say about Grayer.....except that I need a real life one of him. Loved him and his buckle :)

Such a wonderful story that you don't want to miss out on!

*Eight Seconds*

There's something about girls and being seventeen, not sure what it is, but that seems to be when life hits us the hardest. I really loved this story, connected so easily to Maesyn and her feelings of how she perceived herself and life. And how can you not fall for Grayer? Those little grins and the winks, gah, so darn irresistible. But what I enjoyed the most, was the serious times were emotional and you could FEEL that, the sexy, playful times, you could FEEL all those emotions. Such a good story!

There are times I think Grayer can see through his girl, “you lyin ’ to me?” His brow arches, his slow southern drawl so sexy." Grayer really appreciate his woman's talents, "he finishes the cobbler and sets the bowl down on the tray. He reaches for his beer. “God**mn, you can cook.” I loved this book, I fell in love with Grayer, sometimes he and his woman were just a hot mess, but the best part of this book was they stuck that hot mess out together.

Eight seconds!!!

This book had All the feels!! When I first started reading this I thought Grayer was a lit older than he really was, which made him even better!! This author just had a way with books and her writing is phenomenal!! Grayer and Maesyn were so good together from the very beginning! He was a protector!! I knew that right off the bat and it made me love him more!! Love all of the secondary characters as well!!

5 Stars

What can I say other than I loved this book? Her words put you right there in the arenas, right there working the farms. She makes you feel breathless with anticipation of action scenes and quiet moments. It's warm summer breezes and stale, dusty air. Beautiful story of wanting freedom but questioning everything. 5 stars! Great read!

Amazing

This is the first Shey Stahl book I've read. I found it on Facebook and it sounded intriguing. At first I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but then a couple of pages later I was beyond hooked! I love these characters! This is a great read that I highly recommend!
Maesyn and Grayer are intriguing characters that kept me with them til the end!

Enjoyable read

The blurb drew me to the book as well as the cover. I enjoyed the story for the most part. I guess I was expecting more anguish in Grayer's character. Maesyn seemed to just go with the flow of crowd. I was hoping for more of a climax like what you normally find in the romance tropes , but this book didn't have anything like that.

I fell and hard and fast for this one. Greyer was back home to take care of business after the death of his dad. Maesyn was on the edge of eighteen and fighting for her freedom. When the two collide there are not only sparks but straight up fire. I loved this one and all of it's characters. Fantastic read.

U tell it like it should be at one time In every girls life. Then go on being wife and Mom. Be that wife first. Then mom, because then both of you will take care of those lucky kids. Give your lucky spouse a hug and kiss, tell him you love him. Make those your last words each night. God bless.

An absolutely fantastic story that I absolutely didn't want to end. I wanted to keep reading about these characters forever. I loved them. The storyline was absolutely perfect and the characters were very enjoyable to read about and loving them was easy. I absolutely recommend this book and I have my fingers crossed for more books about this family.

Love Love Love

Oh my God! Absolutely love this book. Maesyn and Grayer stole my heart. But the greatest part for me is the music mixed in to the story. Thank you Shey for sharing this story with us.

This was such a good story. I love Shey Stahl’s writing and I was not disappointed in this book. The characters were great and the plot was unique, which was quite refreshing. I highly recommend this book.

Couldn't finish it.

I found myself bored a ND the story dragging on. I did not even bother to finish the book. I did not make it through chapter 1. The characters I felt. No connection with.

What can I say! I absolutely loved it! Once again Shey doesn't disappoint. Within 5 minutes you are drawn into this story. It's complicated, it makes you laugh, cry and smile. Love the plot and characters. Hot and steamy. I highly recommend reading this book you wont want to put it down.
