Still hits hard after forty years

Pat Mills set out to create an anti-war saga where the heroes were just working class ordinary people. Brilliantly realised by the extraordinary artwork of Joe Colquhoun, he succeeded beyond any reasonable expectations, and the bleak, class-conscious vision of the brutal, empty and utterly pointless mass murder of the Western Front remains as shocking today after forty years as it did at the time.

Incredible to know that Battle was selling 150,000 copies a week and CW was the most popular story. The young teens who followed the horrible saga were probably the best-informed members of the public about the Worst War of the industrial era.

It's perfect. Read it all.

Gone but not forgotten

What a fantastic series, I would have absolutely loved this in my early teens & so would my dad have, he was an ex Royal Marine, later transferred to the newly formed Commandos in 1943, he used to read all my War Comics, especially Dogfight Dixon, bless him but yes absolutely first class artwork & storyline, would thoroughly recommend to anyone who likes quality graphic novels ...
