Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home.
Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

Review:

This is soon becoming my favorite series. It has two of my favorite things: search and rescue and paranormal. Add in engaging characters, a top notch mystery and a flock of lovable animals and it is a real winner.

Harmony is a kind hearted person who loves helping people and animals. She has a whole house and yard full of animals that she has rescued. And she does her best to rescue missing people, as part of the search and rescue team. She has a special talent (or curse) where she can connect with the person she is trying to save. While connecting with them she experiences their pain and their fear. She has learned to live with this ability, but at times if is very difficult. And when she connects with a killer, she is terrified but determined to find the murderer.

The characters are well developed and well rounded. The people from the rescue team are like family to Harmony and they are all very willing to help each other and take care each other. Each one adds something special to this book. And the animals are so cute and fun to read about.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and in creating suspense with the written word. There were many scenes in this book that were tension filled. The mystery was well written and carried on well throughout the entire book. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. Even after the culprit was identified, the reason behind the killer’s actions needed to be found out.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am already looking forward to the next book so I hope the author writes fast.

Finding Courage is the third book in Kathi Daley’s awesome Rescue Alaska Mystery series. The writing in this fast-paced book flows smoothly, the characters are three dimensional and affable, and the mystery is well plotted. This series has paranormal aspects with the main character being able to make a psychic connection with people in need of rescue. As with all her books, Ms. Daley has provided readers with a clean, fun read, caring and compassionate characters, and an intriguing mystery to try to solve. This book quickly turned into a suspenseful page-turner that was hard to put down and left me craving the next installment. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.

Harmony “Harm” Carson lives in a little backwoods cabin with multiple dogs, cats, and rabbits, plus a blind mule named Homer in Rescue, which is nestled in northern Alaska. She’s a waitress at Neverland, the bar owned by her brother-in-law, Jake Cartwright, is a volunteer member of Rescue’s search-and-rescue team, and manages the daily operations of an animal shelter. Harm has a unique gift – the ability to connect psychically with people she’s supposed to help save. Even though the images and feelings often threaten to overwhelm and possibly destroy her, she knows embracing the pain and fear is her destiny. One of her cats is a large Maine Coon named Moose, who has the ability to comfort her and melt away the trauma she experiences. She lost her parents in an automobile accident when she was a teenager and her sister, Val, became her guardian. When Val married Jake Cartwright, they became a family. Four years later, Val died during a rescue and Jake took over as her guardian. The attempt to rescue Val was the first time Harm’s ability to connect with people psychically occurred. Harm’s helping Rescue’s newest resident, Hank Houston, train his recently adopted dog, Kojak. Jake has been pursuing a relationship with Jordan, a local doctor, and Harm couldn’t be happier for them.

Jake, the S&R’s captain, received a call about two teenage boys who had gone hiking that morning but failed to meet with the families for lunch as planned. With darkness and a sharp temperature drop approaching, Jake quickly gathered team members already at Neverland and they set off with two S&R dogs, Sitka and Yukon. As the search progressed, Harm had an intuition that the report of the missing teens was a hoax, but before she could tell the others in the search team, she connected with someone who terrified her. She’d just warned the others that the rescue was a trap and to pull back when the mountain exploded. She found Jake unconscious with a head injury, Wyatt was discovered trapped with a broken leg and dislocated shoulder, and Sitka alerted that he’d found Austin’s body. This wasn’t an accident, someone had lured them there, intentionally caused the landslide with dynamite, and Harm experienced a memory from when Val died, but it was his memory, not hers, and she knew the man who killed Austin was with Val when she died. After Harm discovers footsteps on her property, Jake and Police Chief Hank Houston insist she can’t stay at her cabin alone and her friend and S&R team member, Landon, volunteers to stay in her guest room. After an intentionally set fire and explosion at a local lumber mill causes multiple injuries and death, everyone is on high alert and filled with fear. The S&R team works closely with Hank to identify potential suspects and find the sick person causing Rescue’s residents to fear for their lives.

“Finding Courage” earns 5/5 Explosive Mysteries…Clever, Engaging!!

A phone call from a frantic father comes into the rescue team. Fairly routine situation has two fourteen-year-old boys, one his son, missing. The team heads off on the search, but Harmony’s ability to connect with those scared or suffering seems not to be effective. Is this a hoax, or are they purposely blocking her efforts? Are they unconscious, or are they dead? Stopping to force the connection, something painful pierces her consciousness. She grabs her chest feeling such intense anguish. “Stop!” An explosion, a team member’s death, and a memory flashed in her thoughts. Normally Harmony connects with victims, people needing to be found and rescued, but this was different…personal, very personal.

An engaging hit! Kathi Daley has penned a very engrossing third book in her Rescue Alaska series. She hooks readers right away with some disturbing emotions from the killer, and from there the search for the identity puts everyone on edge and a few in danger. There are several possible suspects, but the final reveal was a shock that also provides some closure for Harmony and Jake, her brother-in-law. Kathi’s writing style includes a descriptive illustration of the Alaskan community, the mountains and the wildlife, along with a first-person narrative to follow Harmony’s inner thoughts, fears, and joys. The entertaining dialogue helps to understand personality, relationships, and tone. A few references to pass storylines, background and character connections are made, but no spoilers. Newbies can join in here, and then go back to enjoy the beginning. I really enjoy the realism to the paranormal twist. It doesn't overwhelm the story. Harmony’s mental and emotional connections also seem to be strengthening and expanding. Top notch! Great characters! Clever thriller!

In this third book of the series the team is called into rescue a couple of teenagers who seem to have gotten lost. While searching for the boys Harmony realizes that something isn't quite right and warns the team that things aren't what they seem. Right after letting who she could reach know a blast goes off and ends up killing one of the members of the team. When she connected with the bomber an image of her sister in a cave so many years ago popped up. What did this man have to do with her sister and did he have something to do with her death? Harmony receives a phone call and it's the bomber letting her know where the next explosion will be. Another person dies trying to help put out the fire when the bomb goes off, now everyone is worried about false calls. Harmony doesn't think the killer is someone she knows but doesn't know who it could be. Why do they seem to be pulling her into their sick fantasy and why now? Follow along as Harmony tries to delve into the mind of a killer, find answers to the few clues that they have, and stay safe while doing it. This was a great whodunit with an emotional ride the whole way through. You can't help but feel bad for Harmony and hope that she finds the answers she so desperately seeks. I can't wait to see what is in store for her next.

I love this series, the characters, the mystery and touch of paranormal. Harmony has a gift/curse that allows her to sense when people need help which is helpful since she's in search and rescue. Her senses seem to be deepening when she accidentally locks in on a killer's emotions, to make it worse the killers somehow seems to be tied into the death of her sister years ago.
This story kept me turning the pages between the search for answers from the past and actions of the present. I will definitely continue on with this series.

This book had me on edge from the very beginning! I worked hard not to skip to the end to see who the killer was, and I am happy to say I managed it. It certainly makes for a better book. This murderer loves to blow things up without warning. He seems to be working around to one specific member of the Rescue team. This is an excellent book that never lets up until the end.

Finding Courage is another fantastic book in the Rescue Alaska series by talented author Kathi Daley.

Very suspenseful, this book held my attention all the way through. It even made me stay up way too late finishing it, as I couldn't wait another day to find out the ending.

I highly recommend this to all mystery lovers.

Mystery in Alaska

This is book 3 in the Rescue Alaska series and it just keeps getting better. Harmony is part of the search and rescue team in Alaska with her brother-in-law Jake and a team of searchers and rescue dogs. The team received a call about 2 teenage boys missing but Harmony begins to think something is wrong when she can't get a read on the boys. Harmony has special abilities that allow her to feel the emotions of the missing people but she can't feel anything at first. When she tried again she feels an evil sick connection to an older man and she tried to warn her team but there is a sudden explosion and landslide. Several team members including Jake are injured and Austin is killed. Mourning their team member, the Rescue team tried to figure out who might be responsible and they come up with a few suspects. Then Harmony sees some large footprints in the snow on her land and she also received a call warning of another bomb about to go off. When she figured out that the bomb is going to go off at the lumber yard she races there but is too late. A large explosion kills a couple of the firemen and wounds several others. Who is doing this and why is he targeting Harmony? Will the team along with the police be able to figure it out before someone else dies? This is a great mystery with a thrilling conclusion by one of my favorite authors, Kathi Daley.

Rescue Alaska is a close knit community. Their "claim to fame" is a local man turned star powered actor. Being a wilderness community, volunteers and rescue workers are an extremely important segment of the population.
It seems that someone with a propensity for fire and blowing things up has targeted those rescue workers. It also seems that there may be a connection to one rescuer who tragically died thirteen years before. Can the team and local law enforcement figure out who is doing this, and the motive, before the community crumbles?

Emotions are tensed to the limits with fear raging through the residents. Harmony has a flash of a memory, but is it really tied to these new disasters or just due to the emotions?
Twisting several past rescues in with present clues even when the reader and the team think they have a handle on who may be causing the trouble, questions still have no concrete answers.
It takes a village to figure this out and support each other.

Finding Courage ( Rescue Alaska Mystery-Book #3 )
By; Kathi Daley
Finding Courage is book three in Rescue Alaska Mystery series by Kathi Daley. I love the story and the characters, both were well written and well developed. The author did not disappoint. I was hooked right at the start and could not put it down. There is action, with twist and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat and trying to read faster to see what is going to happen next. I caught myself holding my breath several times. This story hits the small town , people , and The Search and Rescue Team. Harmony has a special gift that she considers a curse sometimes. She helps with the rescues, with the team. Can she help the team and herself in Finding Courage? Daley writes another exciting cozy mystery in this series and I can’t wait for book four.

It's nearing Halloween in Rescue, Alaska, and the search and rescue team are at work trying to find 2 missing boys. When tradegy occurs and it turns out it wasn't an accident, everyone is on their guard.

Harmony is a member of the search and rescue team headed up by her brother in law, she has some telepathic powers which enables her to connect with people in trouble. In this book, it seems someone wants to connect with her, and it's not someone in trouble, it's someone out to make trouble!

Kathi Daley is a prolific cozy mystery writer, I've read several of her series and really enjoy them all. As with all her series, the main characters stay the same and run through each book, so the books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.

I don't know why but I enjoy this little series of books. It could be the Alaska setting, the small-town closeness, the people who live everyday lives (except for the movie star), the overwhelming number of pets, or the rescues themselves. The book is a quick read. I read it while spending a rare evening at home alone. The action does not lag it keeps moving right along. The only part that grates on my nerves is the care of the animals. The act is repeated multiple times. If you have over a dozen pets, yes, we get it takes time to care for them. Skip it a couple of time and it would be okay.
This book is what a mystery should be. The story takes plot twists and leads you down a road to a conclusion. You may guess wrong but, in the end, you figure it out. You also learn why the killer did it. Reasoning is not always apparent in mysteries these days.
A quick, good read.

While out on a rescue mission, Harmony sudden has a vision of her dead sister who died years ago but this time she experiences the pain and grief through someone else eyes. Her sister was not alone when she died but whether it was a murder or just someone else who found her at the time, Harmony is not quite sure.

She felt the rescue was a trap as one of the rescuers got trapped in the mountain avalanche when explosives were set off at the scene as the damage could have been more. But who is behind it as things point back to the time of her dead sister’s own death during a rescue that took her own life.

This is a quick paced fascinating read.

Another Great Alaskan Mystery!

Harmony, Jake, Landon, Houston, and all the characters in these stories are down to earth people who feel real. Their lives have problems just like other people. Their team work, caring, and research always pinpoints the killer. It's how he is brought to justice that makes these books interesting. An Alaskan rescue team, the volunteer firefighters, and the crew from the police are targeted in this book but it is all designed to get to Harmony. The people in this close knit community really make the difference. In today's world it is nice to read about people working together to bring about a positive resolution. Enjoy these books. I do.

Easy to love this book & this series

As with the prior 2 books in this series I quickly settled in to read from beginning to end. There are many things that happen but the bad things occurs off stage so to speak so no worries if you are squeamish. As someone who enjoys animal companions I enjoy catching up with Harmony's menagerie and learning how the new animal rescue facility evolves. Good, strong characters, small town Alaska life, and rescues of both humans & animals. Take a mini vacay to Rescue, Alaska!

Loved this story and all its intriguing twists and turns. A very emotional and suspenseful read with Harmony and her paranormal gift right in the center. Love how the author weaves the characters lives and community spirit - makes them so true to life and you instantly become immersed in their stories. Also love the whole concept of this story -- a group who go out and rescue others in some very dangerous situations. Awesome series and highly recommend.

I'm really enjoying this new series by Kathi Daley. In "Finding Courage" the S&R team is called to rescue a pair of young boys but Harmony connects with someone just as the team reaches a mountain and realizes it's a trap. The killer seems to want a connection with Harmony so he focuses on first responders in the tiny town. "Finding Courage" is fast moving and it draws you into the story from the beginning.

Going out with a bang

Rescue, Alaska is a small, close-knit town, home to a search and rescue team. The team is more like a big family. Someone is targeting the team with explosives, and is focused on Harmony. This third book is somewhat dark, and a little scary in parts; I knew there would be a "happy ending", but it was very tense at times. Looking forward to the next visit.

Very good

Kathi Daley has a very good insight into Harmony's "gift". She is able to let the reader grasp the depth of the process Harmony has to deal with. The storyline is involved but it gets explained as it unfolds and keeps the readers interest. I never felt left out of the group as it tried to make sense of what was happening. Definitely a good read. I enjoyed it.

Suspenseful Drama

Another intriguing and exciting mystery, almost a thriller. Insane killer, explosions, and a little mind reading were all included in this story. Harmony and all of the cast of characters worked together to solve this mystery and of course all of the animals helped too. Now on to book number four.

Finding out who is doing bad things, blowing things up bad things!

This was so much more difficult to follow. The damage the bad guy was doing just hurt too much. And trying to follow the clues to identify him was interesting but still people were in danger or died. Still on the whole the group pulls together and support one another!
