Mom of two rockin' girls, Reader of everything, Author of The Dragon Guards series and many more surprises to come!
I am a sarcastic, sometimes foul-mouthed, not afraid to drink a beer, always southern woman with 2 of the most amazing teenage daughters, a menagerie of animals and a voracious appetite for reading who recently decided to write the storied running through her brain. I read my first book, Dr Suess' Cat in The Hat by myself at 4 and was hooked. I believe a good book along with shoes, makeup and purses will never let a girl down and that all heroes of all the books I have ever read or will ever write pale in comparison to my daddy! I am a sucker for a happy ending and love some hot sweaty sex with a healthy dose of romance. I am still working on my story but believe it will contain all of the above with as much SPICE as I can work into it. CHEERS!
Well, I have to tell you that I got a bit more than I expected from this intriguing and completely enthralling story.
It is fast paced and full of thrilling events and exciting twists and turns as well as a mating that is quite literally flaming hot. Dax and J.D. is delightful characters full of snark and flames, they set the pages on fire when their chemistry comes together and they had me smiling and chuckling throughout the story, they even made me chuckle during the intense and thrilling excitement of their face off with a very deadly enemy.
And I have to say the uniqueness of the characters in this story also makes for an exhilarating change and certainly lights up my imagination while adding spice and magic to the story as well. This is a great romance to read during a break or when you have only a little time to yourself because it packs quite a sensational punch in such a short read.
Dax has never embraced her true potential, her witchy powers are ahhhh, but her Fire Horse, now that's another thing, she loves to fly around! She is also a very independent woman and loves to take off on her own which in the present situation means meeting up with a very hawt cowboy when her Daisy Mae breaks down. Can there be a message here? Dragon warrior J.D. is more than happy to help a damsel in distress and man does this damsel need to be de-distressed. Problem is as soon as he takes her home she disappears in a flash, not even his very powerful witchy mother can figure it out, but her mate can.....J.D.
Dnf due to awful writing. When 80% of the sentences begin with a dependent clause, there are serious problems. I counted 11 of 13 sentences beginning this way in one section.
Book Reviewed: Save a Horse, Ride a Dragon (Dragon Guard Series Book 33) My Rating: 5 Stars Author: Julia Mills Publication Date: 6/20/2018 Reviewed by: Tammy Payne- Book Nook Nuts
REVIEW We get Dax who is a little bull-headed, She is a dual shifter of sorts but not quite. She enjoys one side and not too much of the other so she gets picked on often by one of her closest friends.
Out for a ride and her jeep decides it's had enough a sexy, Stetson-wearing, horse ridin cowboy comes to her rescue. Now mind you Dax is all woman but hey why not be a girly girl for the time being.
J.D. is nothing short of amazing... He is strong, sexy, and downright lickable or at least Dax thinks so.
This couple is hilarious, we get some action too and 4 more sexy brothers join in. Can't wait for the next book to see who gets a story. True to form this author gives us a funny, sexy, hold on to your seat story.
WOW this story was fantastic. the character Dax was a sassy red-head who had her own way of doing things, the character J.D. was having a hell of a time keeping his hands off her. trouble showed up in the form of an ancient medicine man and it takes more than the pair to save the day but our dragon and his firehorse seem to set things on fire in and out of the bedroom. this is a book from the authors Dragon Guard series.
WOW, what a hot, explosive and fiery story this is. I'm keeping this short otherwise I'll give away too much. Couldn't put it down until I was finished!! Dax & J.D. are two very strong shifters. The two have to come together to fight an evil that wants to take over the world. This story has it all-edge of your seat adventure, magic, shifters and witches. Highly recommend this story and hope for more like this one. You'll love this one too! Fantabulous!!
Dax has always been on the believe that she doesn't need witch craft, since she has her fire horse side. JD has always been hard headed and dives head first into everything. Together they must work together to keep everyone safe. Will Dax accept the one that Fate sent her? Will JD finally get the mate he has longed for?
Was so excited for this new Julia Mills book and how it is set in a new place. I loved how both characters have firey personalities. I loved how despite being unsure at first, once Dax accepts him she goes all in. Loved how JD didn't question it and in the end was willing to work with her. Great read!

I've read a lot in this series and I'm never been disappointed with any of them. Julia Mills writes these Dragon books that are hot and worth reading. Dax and J.D.'s chemistry is hot and I mean fire breathing hot. One fire horse and one Dragon what a great combination.
I have read this series from book 1 and enjoyed each 1. Each Dragon man has its' own personality, so the story is always different. A short but enjoyable read with a HEA.
I bought this book when it was free to give it a try and read a new author. While there was nothing wrong with the author, I would definitely read something from them again. This book just missed the mark with me.
I liked the two characters. I liked the idea of them being mates and there families were a fun bunch.
The part that I had a hard time and it wasn't until I finished that I realized that this book book 33 in a series. It said it can be read as a standalone but I don't think it can. There was SO much that was going on in this book that I felt it just brought you out of the story. There is a lot of made up things in here because it is a paranormal book which makes sense but its told so fast that its expected as a reader you know what this is.
Dax was a hard character for me to understand. She was quite prickly and she could accept her horse side but not her witch side which I don't think was really full explained.
Like I said, I think the book was well written but I would be hesitant to read this as a standalone.
Fire-Horse shifter Dax is on a journey n her jeep she affectionately calls Daisy Mae when she breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Dragon-shifter JD finds her and is immediately drawn to her and takes her home so she can stay with his family until she can get her jeep fixed. Then a raised-from-the-dead Medicine Man appears and is determined to bathe in their blood - can they accept that they are chosen mates and work together to defeat him and save both themselves and the world?
This was a nice book in the dragon guard series that pulled together dragons, witches and shifters in this tale of fated mates and the danger that they hand to battle in order to be together for their forever. Well written and easy to understand. Contains some sexual content.
There was a lot of fire used in the making of this book.
Also, the description of Dax’s fire horse kind of reminded me of a Pokémon character “Rapidash”.
Dax is part witch but, doesn’t use that part very often & she’s part Fire Horse; she’s on a trip by herself when her Jeep named Daisy Mae stops working & breaks down in the middle of nowhere.
J.D. (& no he’s not named after some booze) comes out of nowhere according to Dax & gives her a compliment about her butt & says that he’ll take a look at her vehicle. J.D. finds out that Daisy Mae has a hole in her radiator & no there isn’t any automotive place open until Monday.
That is how J.D. & Dax meet. Now it’s your turn to find out what they have to do before they can get mated.
Kind of like a new series this book.we have heard of the macallen clan of dragons who live near the wolf pack we visited with a mate who is a wolf she was making alliance with, while visiting her mate was being held close by and escaped and wash up on the wolf pack lands. But all characters in this is new no contact with dragons we know. I get very confused with the epilogue at the end book 32 was not this book and now a new one on this one so not sure what is next with book 34. I do like the storyline and 33 books in the author has made each meeting their mate different (with maybe about 3 or 4 similar) it's just the mating that got ridiculously repetitive and the sex.
Oh My Goddess! .... Just blew me away! Thirty three books in and still going strong. Fate has once again decided, so this is Dakota Jane, aka, Dax( fire horse/Celtic witch)and JD’s (dragon and wolf shifter) story. There’s no pussy footing around here. Both Dax and JD are strong characters that are quite aware of each other when they meet. That’s a good thing because a warped kind of evil is coming for them.... well, not just for them, but for every living thing on earth. It’s going to take everything they can muster up to win this day. I was totally captivated with Dakota and JD... their families and friends were delightful. I’m looking forward to seeing more of them in the future.
Great book to read. This book is about Dax taking a cross country trip all by her lonesome. Dax was try to find herself and coming to terms with her fire horse and magic. She was ignoring her Celtic Witch heritage. She will need all the magic she has within her to save her and the mate she is to have that finds her when he comes to help her with her jeep. When J.D. came up on Dax she was talking to her best friend about Unktena which means Dragon in Cherokee and J.D. was going to help her fix her car jeep. J.D. was hit with the mating bond right as he saw her and as he told her she was going about to his house with him. But now is the time to buy the book to find out what happen to the people in the book. It is worth it to buy the book.
Terrific dragon/ human- fire horse shifters Romance
The dragon guard / Cherokee shifter meets his fated mate by the roadside when her vehicle breaks down. She is a fire horse / witch who has let her fire horse predominant.
The characters are unique, sexy, stubborn, and funny when encountering each other. But fate steps in with the demon inhabiting the greatest Cherokee Chief in Zombie form caused mayhem.
Stories of the Dragon guard gets more complicated and more fascinating as I've encountered over 36 books written by this author. I haven't quite read all of them but the ones I have, I've enjoyed the stories very much. Highly recommended.
Julia Mills continues to come up with different story lines that keep you glued to her books until the last page then counting the days until her next story comes out. All of her Dragon Guard series are stand alone's but if you haven't read any of the others in the series, I highly recommend reading them all. Save a Horse, Ride a Dragon combines dragons, fire horses, witches, and Cherokee mystical powers and there is prophesies and battles in alternate plains. You don't want to miss any of the action.
A nice read to a pretty standard format but it felt as if a saga was squashed into a short story. With a standard opening of a girl stranded on a lonely road and the hero riding (in this case literally) to her rescue. Of course they are soul mates and they have to fight evil together or we all end up in trouble. I'm never sure with these stories why the more experienced warriors and magic users can't help. Ah well. As I said, a nice story but very underwhelming..
This standalone novella is a quick and easy read. When Dax Spark's car breaks down in the Texas badlands, she can't even get a cell signal. Until her best friend calls and goes into a prophetic trance. Then a cowboy appears, seemingly out of nowhere, and her fire horse comes to attention. JD MacAllen, dragon and wolf shifter, introduces himself as the dragon she just mentioned in her phone call. But what he doesn't say is that he's her mate, and they have a battle ahead of them.
Dakota, or Dax as her friends called her, worked with her fire horse power, but in many ways ignored her witch side. Then her best friend Bryn has a vision regarding her and a dragon. Then she meets J.D. and she fights her attraction. Then Dax was pulled into another universe. Her friend Bryn has another vision. Then both Dax and J.D. get pulled into another universe. Can they escape? Can they save another stuck in the universe? Come on in and find out.
Awesome new story in the Dragon Guard....love the new adveture filled with drama, action, and suspense. Fell in love with this sassy family....that what it comes down to....family. Filled with love and soooo many personalities, characters and strengths, that is family. Thank you for sharing yours. Happy Birthday Julia! Can't wait for the next adveture.
BRILLIANT. Such a great fun fast paced read with wonderful characters. Loved the dedication at the front, made me teary. Ms Mills has outdone herself with this story, taking us in a different direction and giving us a very special female shifter. There is so much happening over such a short time but oh my, what a great story we get. A wonderfully interesting read with hints of native American mysticism woven through a story about a stubborn, hot headed but strongly endearing female lead in DAX, who meets a very hot cowboy dragon shifter, with just a little bit extra, JD. JD knows they are mates but before DAX can or will admit they are mates too, evil intervenes and a battle must be won. Though tied into the dragon guard series this has a slight spin off angle that just works so well. Cannot wait to read about the rest of JD’s brothers finding their mates. Loved both families, what characters. This is my honest review of this book kindly given to me but read through Kindle Unlimited.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest The characters + storytelling were very captivating Loved the interaction between Dax + JD The author pulls you into her world + she does not intend to let you go The storytelling + the character's build were awesome! It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book! I can't wait for the next book in the series!
Another Dragon Guard clan to follow and fall in love with. Although it's a prolific series it is still fresh and enjoyable. Dax and JD are all we've come to expect from Ms Mills if not more, I can't believe that we're 33 books into the series, and I have them all! I can thoroughly recommend this and the rest of the series. Thanks yet again for a great read!
Julia Mills continues to come up with different story lines that keep you glued to her books until the last page then counting the days until her next story comes out. This one kept me flipping pages with the fiery Dax a fire horse and her bronze dragon JD. It was a new adveture filled with drama, action, and suspense. Fell in love with this sassy family....that what it comes down to....family. Filled with love and soooo many personalities, characters and strengths, that is family
A female fire horse shifter and a male dragon shifter warrior!
A female fire horse shifter is on a road trip when her car breaks down. A cowboy who is a male dragon shifter warrior rides up on his horse and offers to check out the car. There is a hole in the radiator and the closest repair shop is closed. You will have to read the book to find out what all happens to everyone. Some interesting twists and turns. Happy reading!
I read everything by the wonderful Julia Mills as soon as I can. This book is just as great as every other one that I have read. Only down side is that I can never put the book down once I start reading and end up finishing them way to quickly for my liking. Looking forward to the next one!
Oh goodie we get another rare creature and a tip of the hat to Native ledgend. I love it when an author goes outside their wheelhouse and creatively tries to expand our minds. I like sassy, strong heroines and I love strong alpha males who let their mate be all she can be.
As usual, this authors latest book was fantastic. JD and Dax were thrust together and quickly had to fight for their lives, all while getting to know each other and their meddling families. The different setting, the special characteristic of the Bronze Dragon clan, and the majesty of the Fire Horses made this book one is will definitely remember.
