Charlotte Vallent receives a letter from Mrs Konya, formidable mistress of ‘The Estate’, inviting her to return to that daydream mill of pleasure, a place committed to fulfilling a woman’s sexual fantasies. Any woman. And pretty much any fantasy.
Now Charlotte has a choice to make. It has taken her a year to shake off the memories of her previous visit and her participation in the Calyx Programme. But has she recovered from the gorgeous Grigori, her nocturnal watcher, helper, protector and, for one incredible night, her lover? Will he be there for her if she goes back and if so, will they be able to say goodbye a second time?
Though of course, there is always the chance Charlotte will get to double her satisfaction.
Opening the Rose is a follow-up to In the Calyx, though it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone read. This sensual tale provides erotic romance with a literary sensibility in a full-length novel.
LIBRE PALEY is the author of sensual, intelligent romance and erotic romance, often with a psychological edge. She currently lives and works in England, but spent many years residing in a number of countries overseas before returning to her roots. Her home is overlooked by the windswept and sometimes wild moorlands in rural North Lancashire, a brooding and stark landscape from which she derives much inspiration. A life-long book-lover, Libre writes out of sheer enjoyment. The type of romance and erotica she prefers is honest and sensory. She believes that women need to fantasise and to cast off any sexual shame. Libre is a nickname given in childhood, deriving from her ‘Sunday best’ name of Elizabeth, used when she is not on her best behaviour.
Hotter than hot! The second book in the series and we are following our wonderful heroes again! Yay! What can I say? Characters drew me in and took my breath away...they are of course flawed but still perfect, if that makes any sense. Steamy descriptions of love making, very passionate dialogues and attention to details, ‘romantic skills of the author’ keeps you hooked to every move in the scene. This part of series (new Calyx-novel, 2) has all kinds of emotions, all kinds of sex-mystery and forbidden (dark) intrigue a female reader could want. You won’t be disappointed. Ah, you can’t be disappointed!
Paley has woven another lush erotic novel. Again, Charlotte returns to the Estate, this time to work for the mysterious Mrs. K and hopefully reunite with her elusive and enigmatic lover, Grigori. There are detailed sexual fantasies fulfilled as in the first book, but this time we learn more about Mrs. K and Grigori. Their pasts, their motivations, their heartbreaks. Again, Charlotte finds it difficult to return to her real life afterward and put Grigori out of her mind. At the same time, Grigori struggles to forget Charlotte. Love and lust intermingle. I recommend that you read the first book first. These books are much better than a certain poorly written, titillating best-seller series. Paley’s writing transports you. I received an ARC which had numerous errors. I hope they were fixed in the final version as nothing should detract from this beautiful prose. Highly recommended.
Opening the Rose is an unusual romance. It might be better described as literary erotica. It picks up where the first in the series, Into the Calyx, leaves off. Charlotte returns to the mysterious estate where women are allowed the ultimate luxury of exploring their sexual fantasies to the fullest. She and Grigori have unfinished business. Meanwhile, her need to escape the confines of wife and working mother is more and more pressing. The sex scenes are frequent, explicit, and unrepentant. I loved that. Libre Paley is an unusual romance writer in the best possible sense. If you want erotica with your romance, or better yet, if you want to keep thinking about what you have read after you have finished reading, give her a try.
