Old hostilities resurface when Jimmy Colquhoun’s boat is in collision with that of another fisherman, Craig Blackwood. When Jimmy subsequently disappears, and his boat found to have been deliberately sunk, the finger of blame is initially pointed at Craig. DI Andy Crawford is called in to take charge of the investigation, working alongside Detective Sergeant Freya McNichol. As they investigate it becomes apparent that things are not as they initially seemed. Others who have close ties with both men emerge who might benefit from Jimmy’s disappearance…not least the missing man himself. And then a body is discovered…

Fantastic 2nd novel! J A Templeman has a gift for describing every nuance of a scene, but in such a concise way; from the subtle looks, to unspoken words, to atmosphere and sense of tension. The author is also adept at creating colourful antagonists and villains that leave me feeling very fired up (in a good way) and emotionally involved.
Set on a small sleepy island, the plot of Deep Waters builds gently at first, to cleverly interweave several sub plots; all of which add intriguing layers and twists to the story. The plot evolves into a tense, thrilling and complex case, that has one of the best end scenes I have read for a long time. Just perfect.
If you’ve not read the authors work before, do check out ‘Long Shadows’, which is also a gripping read.
