The Beyond #3

Beyond Touched

Rate this book
Four Rules. A handful of hope. Unlimited potential.

The kiss from a beautiful stranger sends actual sparkles through his body, but veteran Damon Shermansky is stumped when she refuses to see him again.

Alexa Carrington has more than one reason to hide from Damon - Her past has left her extremely fearful of men and she's nowhere near ready to try her hand at love. No matter how bad she might want the guy, there are certain things she just won't do.

Setting impossible boundaries no relationship should survive, Alexa tries to keep Damon at a safe distance, but he's convinced they're a perfect match, and determined to persuade her, he navigates the minefield of pain between them, calculating each step in the hopes of proving that he's the exception to her rules.

If you love imperfect characters, you'll adore the humorous, yet saucy Beyond Series that follows the baggage-laden romances of those living and working at a one-of-a-kind strip club as they struggle to overcome the psychological barriers of past and present to find love and hope for the future.

Each full-length novel can be read as a stand-alone, but for maximum enjoyment, should be read in order.

Really nice guy who has pretty much instant love for a very emotionally damaged woman but he helps her onto the path of healing. There is hell yeah sex, sexual tension, a little ex drama and then around the 84% mark, just before chapter 26, the story nose dives for me. It seemed silly and not interesting enough to be so drawn out.
I enjoyed Jenkins and the Naughty Nurse so much more and I might read Beyond Heat but the other books of The Beyond Series are a pass for me.

Cheers

The Lady Can Write

This the second book by Ashley Logan that I have read, both part of a series that feature damaged 20-something women (and men) associated with a very special strip club in, of all places, Buffalo, New York. In this one, Alexa, a survivor of abusive relationships, chances to meet Damon, a handless veteran on the street. Their connection to people involved with club is revealed not long after. They embark tentatively on a sexual relationship severely restricted by Alexa's fears and insecurities. Damon ever so slowly succeeds in dismantling the restrictions and falling in love with Alexa. After much backing and filling and very creative non-intercourse love-making, Alexa falls in love with Damon. The novel culmates with a night of sybaritic indulgence for Alexa, her fellow strippers, and their companions, courtesy of Damon. The climax-pun intended-comes with Damon and Alexa having intercourse for the first time, in her apartment over the club.

Ashley Logan, the author, lives iin New Zealand, yet captures the speech rhythms and behaviors of damaged yet randy American veterans with sympathy and precision. Her treatment of war-caused disabilities-in this case, the loss of the male MC's hands-is skillfully, and often erotically, woven into the developing relationships central to the romance story.

Ms. Logan writes engagingly, frequently humorously, but with some odd slip-ups. Her use of Britishisms, like "windscrenn" for "windshield" or "different to" instead "different from," can be occasionally distracting, So, too, with her grammatical lapses, like her failure to use commas where they are necessary or to put them in confusingly. ( See my voluminous examples on Goodreads.) But in general, her writing is smooth, yet punchy when necessary.

This is a wonderful story of sexual attraction and love between two flawed and frightened characters.

Treat yourself and enjoy.
