I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

Although this is very similar to the Hunger games it felt harsher with the world it is set in a tougher place.
The characters are strong and the story move along at a good pace.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thrilling sci-fi novel

Noni lives on a futuristic dystopian planet. She is part of a militaristic caste which is dedicated to protecting the planet and keeping the peace. She passes the brutal gauntlet, which many young recruits don't survive. She is sent on her first assignment away from the training facility and gets her first glimpse at the real world. She arrives at her first assignment a wide eyed,  eager, young recruit. She fully believes in her mission and what she's been told. However, the perfect exterior of her perfect society begins to crack and she begins to see the lies and injustice that runs repent in society. She is forced to make a decision stay loyal to her training and what she has always been taught or fight against the corruption and injustice. This book is full of sci-fi, dystopian cliches and is similar to many other series. However, if one can look past that there is a solid plot with decent characters. It is a great start for a fledgling series. Noni is a great heroine that the reader can root for. I think what makes her appealing is she is flawed. Where many book make there character the best, the greatest, and infallible; Noni is young, inexperienced, and flawed. To be honest I did not like her at first. She was arrogant and cruel. When in the beginning she hit a plebe (the slave class); talking about how that should make her commander proud and stands by watching a young plebe girl get beaten (and thinks it's right), and talks about how the plebes should be happy their in their rightful place; I didn't like her. However, as the book went on I learned more about her character and watched her evolve; I began to grow more fond of her. I think the development of Noni's character is something that drives this book along with her call to action. I am curious to see how Noni's story plays out in future books. I would suggest this book to readers who enjoy a character driven, futuristic, dystopian, sci-fi, thriller.

Enchained is enthralling

“Enchained” by Janet McNalty is the first book in this Trilogy and the author already has me hooked. Enchained
Is a series in a dystopian setting, and very similar to the hunger games . In this series children are born and taken away fr their parental units and placed in the “occupation” their body seems “fit” for, and they are separated by color. Unlike the past of the United States where the “darker skinned” were used and traded, in this "world” it is the “lighter skinned “ who were thought of as “non human plebeians”. The main character in this series is a bad to the bone female who only had one “friend” and had a love to hate relationship with her superiors. The book was very like the hunger games in the beginning because the “children “ had to “battle” to be “placed” as their defense and through out the book so many little things made me the reader cringe as they Mistreated and killed plebeian women and infants and the violence seemed to be unbounded. It seemed that the main character could never figure out one hundred Percent if she was on the “good side” or if like in the hunger game series the political seemed to be out for themselves and not for best of citizens as they claimed. I found after a while that i as a reader completely overtaken by the characters the author created, because they seemed familiar but not in a bad way the characters were just very well written and described. As a female reader I was overwhelmed by the aspect of having a procedures done upon young women not to have children and that is when I realized why these characters were so “real” ! The things a lot of these characters were put through, even some of the more barbaric ones still happen today in the wake world and that’s why I as a reader could not
Out this book Down! I am waiting on pins and needles to see what else the author puts these characters through! I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys the dystopian reading but also over a certain age and could handle the violence and vulgarity In this but I enjoyed seeing these very real and very awful aspects of human nature and politics and so many other issues played out in this series! Highly recommended !

A new world to explore

Enchained by Janet McNulty, as described in the title, is book one of a soon to be trilogy. I gave this book a try as one who comes as a veteran of this genre. Though it has been a while since I've come back to this dystopia style novel, since I've been feeling a little burnt out by the cliches and tired political undertones (not so inconspicuous as the author usually thinks) that follow this genre. I have to say that Enchained has refreshed and rejuvenated my intrigue for these kind of stories. The author was able to build a world, though familiar, able to stand alone and be interesting. I was definitely interested in where the story was going.

She was also able to create a protagonist that had some unique qualities. This wasn't another story of some wimp rising to the challenge and overcoming personal fears and failures. Not like we've seen before anyway. Noni resembles someone who only knows a world of harsh training and consequences. She is able to rise above due to diligence, perseverance, and skill. I'm excited to see where her story goes.

Enchained is a book that grips and takes hold of it's reader. You'll surely enjoy this raw and thrilling novel.
