"I now know true love is not a once in a lifetime blessing, but something only a select few will ever know. Most people on this earth would never experience firsthand the love I felt for Karter."
description

Karter has officially been shelved in the "must read" and "why did I wait so long to read this?" shelf! What is the basis for this assessment? So glad you asked! I am still thinking about it a week after reading it. The well-developed characters and concisely crafted plot truly swept me away to another place. For a book lover, there is just nothing better!

description
"If someone didn't like what I was doing, as far as I was concerned, they could simply fuck off."
Karter is a spunky, independent heroine with the an overabundance of energy. Her Chinese Animal seems to be somewhat of a crossover between a wise old owl and a labrador puppy! She speaks her mind and remains true to her resolve every single moment of every single day. Her creative spirit was an inspiration to behold! An artist, her body, is decorated with an abundance of body art, and she drives a motorcycle with the determination to rule the world! Beyonce has nothing on Karter!

description
"Never turn over a rock if you aren't prepared to discuss what may lie beneath it."
Jak is a Navy Seal. He has served his country well. When he returns to the states, he meets Karter. Like an avalanche, the two crash into each other. Karter and Jak. Jak and Karter. When these two come together, everything that was ever wrong in their worlds becomes right.
"It wasn't even noon, and Karter had painted a masterpiece, we had sex one and a half times, she cut off my underwear, we had a visit by the police, and now she was cooking brunch. My life with Karter, it if was nothing else, would be...Perfect."
Although I would love to offer more commentary on the plot, this is a read that is most definitely best to experience blind. Every single moment is critical to the plot. Each word should be savored because when you are done, you will want to remember every single second of the text.
"The feeling of being inside Karter wasn't only one of simply having sex. As if the inner structure of her body was made to accept me perfectly, we carefully fit one another in a manner which was undeniable."
description

Told in dual POV, Karter is a tender read charged with raw, primal sexual energy. (Before you scoff at my overuse of adjectives, read the book. No doubt, you will agree!) In true Hildreth fashion, the characters are carefully constructed, and their choices are consistent throughout the read. This element makes the story believable when even the most unbelievable things happen. As each layer is carefully peeled away, I became more engrossed in the story. The emotions were intense and yet delivered at a steady rate. This delicious combination allowed my heart and head to stay connected (and buckled up tight) for the entire read. This read has a hint of mystery which only made this story that much sweeter. Karter is a stand alone and yet, for me, both Karter and Jak are two characters that are still living and breathing their dream together.

description
"I choose to love those who love me in return."
On a personal note, I met my husband when I was 21. Like Jak, he is a veteran of the military, and he is thirteen years older than me. With that personal tidbit, I will add that I agree 100% with Oscar (another lovely character in this read).
"Love Jak. A man once told me love was blind. You know what? He was damned right. Love don't see a damned thing. Not real love. It don't see color, or religion, neighborhoods, poverty or wealth. Hell, it don't even see age differences for that matter. Real love just snaps into place."
description

Overall, I cannot say enough about Karter. The characters, the plot, and the witty dialogue make this another winning Hildreth read. I feel this author is not only engaging with his "smart straight forward writing style" but additionally, he is diverse. Each book has been unique and brought its voice to broadcast to the world. Karter will forever be one of my favorite female heroines of all time. Let's face it, in reality, everyone wants to be like Karter! Until next time Mr. Hildreth. No doubt, it will be amazing!

This book.....Oh well, let me see how to explain without spoiling.

You fall in love with someone, and it’s the type of love that hits you like a freight train. Being without this person is NOT an option. They’re you’re EVERYTHING. To simply try to breathe without this person is utterly impossible. One small problem, you realize you don’t know everything about them. Oh well, who cares, right?

Wrong.

When the thing you learn about this person places them somewhere completely against the grain of EVERYTHING you believe in, what do you do?

When you’re so deeply in love you can’t survive without said person, you’re absolutely f*cked.

This, ladies and gents, is “Karter”.

Karter is a book which is extremely difficult to review. To review accurately is to spoil. I’ll say this; it’s a wild ride of emotions.

Holy.

Shit.

Jak retired from the Navy after 20 years as a SEAL. He’s sick and tired of the war and killing, and he prefers to return to a city close to the town he grew up in, but not the town itself. There’s something there (we don’t know what….) keeping him from returning. So, he returns to a big city in the Midwest. He’s muscular, humble, and a bad ass. But remember, he’s humble. The kind of guy you’d never guess was a SEAL, because he isn’t a braggart. He’s the perfect hero.

Insert Karter. She’s a motorcycle riding, foul mouthed, take no shit from anyone lady all of 21 years old. She has no family, and she has no friends. It suits her fine - she’s an artist who paints abstract art at home. She’s the ultimate strong heroine.

As the book begins (5% or so) they meet. Immediately and I do mean immediately, there’s an attraction. The explosion kind. They’re instantly drawn to one another, and it’s not some fly by night shit.

It’s BOOM!!!!

She’s brash, he’s humble. She’s got issues. He’s got demons. She’s 21. He’s 38. Neither wants to disclose their age for fear of the other backing away, so initially, they keep their respective mouths shut.

And. Then. Things. Get. Crazy.

Can you say forbidden fruit?

Sexual insanity. Lusty love to the @#$@!* degree?

This book is love and the feelings we all get when we fall head over holy fucking shit heels. And when a respective monkey wrench is tossed into the deepest of love you’re feeling, what length will you go for the one you love?

Karter is a once in a lifetime ‘this story has never been told and I think I’m going to fucking reread this son-of-a-bitch eleventeen times’ book.

It’s an absolute must read book. I can’t say any more than that. I’d compare it to other books, but…..

Wow.

Simply stated.

Wow.

This book has no cheating, DOES have an HEA, and is a stand alone. If you wan the type of love story we all seek, but never find...and told in Erotic fashion, this book is for you.

Wow.

4-4.5 "Quality NOT Quantity" stars

It's not gonna be hard for me to write a PREMISE for the review intro to capture the ESSENCE of the story, cause I can describe it in one sentence by quoting:
"You see, life is about quality, not quantity. You know that, right?

Dude, i do know it! I live it, too!
DAY by DAY, EVERY DAY...

The story we follow in Karter holds one main thing in front of its bare chest and that is CONNECTION, BOND if you like the sound of it more.

That part was very well interwined somewhere from 20% in the story cause by then we get to see the PASSION that overlapped the INFATUATION. And the passion was palpable and visible as oppose to the „LOVE at FIRST SIGHT“ notion, I very much felt like „RUSHED“ into.

And that part was the first obstacle I had to jump over. And I know that this is purely my fault cause I am NOT the one that falls head over heels at first sight. I just couldn't find it here, for some reason. I felt like I was pushed into it and I had to accept it.

BUT still the characters and the storyline kept me going. Is it fair to say that I liked JAK more than I did KARTER at certain moments in the book?

Cause you see, the LOVE aspect here, had actually nothing to do with age difference between the characters, but it had everything to do with acting the age appropriately.
“People who didn't know me may have perceived me as immature, foolish or selfish, but I saw myself as a strong and capable. I never felt I needed anyone's approval or opinion to make a decision.

And here, right in this sentence there's a point I am trying to make – my PERCEPTION of Karter. At times I felt like the jo-jo effect striking me harshly, directly across my face – I was battling between the certain points when Karter was behaving below her real age and then at times, she was more than a woman and her sassy, snarky spirit was winning me back over.

Jak on the other hand was a man who was „lifted“ by Karter's spirited ways.
„I found it to be extremely rewarding being in Karter's presence. Something about her allowed me to immediately become relaxed. I felt comfotable with her.“
She pulled him out of the potential PTSD trap that he battled after he left the active duty of a NAVY Seal of twenty years. He had his own disappointments very early on in his life plus the rigid military training and combats actually defined his status regarding relationships and feelings in general.
“To become effective in combat, a SEAL must be able to turn off emotional attachements. Therefore, I had zero experience in feeling emotion and acting upon it. My entire military career was spent without sentiment. I had been a stone-faced killer for two decades.“

So in his case I could believe that all this suppressed emotions/non-allowed were just ready to burst out of him and when he crossed paths with the spirited young woman that „enlightened“ him on so many levels, he was ready to let himself go even if the intensity of his feelings in accordance with the shortness of time he actually knew her, made him somewhat reluctant.
“I feared what I felt was an unnatural attraction based on the amount of time I had known Karter.“

I truly believe that the first thing that consumes you completely is , in fact the INFATUATION which then allows you the access to the „get to know“ part of the relationship between two people.

This story actually presents us the aspect of the actual MEANING of LOVE and of what BEING in LOVE is all about.

Although i didn't really found the attraction in the „speed“ of what they felt, I really had NO DOUBT whatsoever of them being genuine about it, no matter the insecurities they both carried along as they hoplesslly tried to hide them from each other in the process.

 photo 50cf6cba-b5c4-4706-a086-660ebc9c64d2_zpstjwzamum.jpg

The passion was undeniable and the way it was described actually was off the charts of hotness…BUT for me JAK ruled it with his words:

“I am fascinated by you. I think you're gorgeous. I want to kiss you, smell your hair, hold you in my arms, and touch every inch of your skin with my hands…
Hell, I want to fuck you sensless, fall asleep with you in my arms and wake up and do it all over again… I am here because you provide me with something I've never felt, and I don't know how I can live without it or without you for that matter.“

And yet again, Scott found a way into my mind to awake some overthinking and over analysing of my own as it happens to be the often case when I am reading his books.
And even though, for me, LOVE takes TIME, the unevitable and ultimate truth can be found in here:

 photo 21d165f4-a436-472c-87d7-878d002d2968_zpstrwut70n.jpg

And just for the sake of making myself clear on the matter of my further jumping into The Scott's books reading marathon:
„I'll be seeing you.“
*snickers*
„Not if I see you first.“
*rushing to make plans for another BR with my guuurls*

This is one of those times when it sucks balls that I'm crap with words and writing reviews. It's frustrating. It comes out awkward and makes little sense. But sod it, let's just put it out there.

How to review this book causes a conundrum for me

description

How do I rate a book when I felt nothing for the characters, but everything for the words formed by them.

I loved the whole concept of this book, I loved what was said - I didn't feel it for them but I understood it.

Before I met my other half I thought I had everything I wanted and needed, then along comes this person that fills something I didn't know was empty. They don't try and change you, they accept you for what you are. Everything is just better with them there.

I could see that Jak and Karter were that for each other.

Why I didn't feel the connection with these two I don't know. There's things in this that I love in books - the age gap, the big slab of man meat, the snarky heroine and the obsessed hero - but it frustrated me, fuck knows why. I've given up asking myself what the issue was.

What can I say here?!

description

Really, I just have no idea what to write.

Wow
Scott Hildreth.. that was magic. Loved this couple so much.

 Karter was like a
hyper goth fairy that captivated anyone's attention who was around her.

OH boy and Jak this intense protective loyal bad ass. The most tender hearted and loyal guy ever!

 I laughed out
loud and teared up quite a few times. I'll never hear the words short stroke
and not think of this book.

Every time he lifted Karter in his arms..and let
her feet dangle I have to say I swooned.

I felt like I could feel their love
touch me from the pages.

Twists,
turns and pages full of passion.

I was hooked and read this in one setting.

I
love books with men who fight for the women they love and characters who are so
layered and interesting. No weak heroine or jerk hero  here. Total goodness
and I'm so glad my girl Steph told me to give this one a go.

Scott.. if you write another with the intro of

***STAND ALONE, HEA, EROTICA, NO CHEATING***

.Oh and MF only LOL

Let me know  because I'll one click right away. Those are
like my weakness every time.

I'm really torn on my thoughts about this book. There were some things I really liked about it (the flow of the story, the writing and the unexpected) and there were some things I didn't like about this book (the way Karter talked got on my nerves and I just couldn't connect with her. Plus, .) I enjoyed some parts but overall I just didn't feel a connection with the characters enough to care about the story. I would definitely read more by this author it's just that this particular book did not work for me.

First Things First….
“Well I’ll give you my opinion about it, ‘cause I know that’s what you come for. You see, life is about quality, not quantity.” ~Oscar
Thank you Oscar for helping me start my review, which happens to be strictly my opinion. Karter by Scott Hildreth I feel could be deemed a modern day fairytale with attitude that focused on the quality of what life can offer if you are willing. The connection that was felt between Karter and Jak was immediate and powerful. Mr. Hildreth, in my opinion, has always developed his characters in a way that makes you want to know more, at the same time experience their journey first hand, and connect to it personally. Karter was no exception.
Jak Kennedy and Karter Wilson were able to truly fall in love because they understood and accepted who they were as individuals first, even the broken pieces. Neither of them needed to nor were they looking to fall in love, it was divine intervention…. “Destiny is God’s Will.”

Right from the start the their love was unconditional, even if they could not explain it.
“In the more realistic world of Karter Wilson, I wouldn’t give half a fuck what Jak thought. But for some reason, at least lately, I wasn’t living in my world.” ~ Karter
They became each other’s glue….

The story continued with the journey of Jak and Karter, which was filled with twists and turns that had had me on the edge of my seat, with scenes that I DID NOT SEE COMING!! But the suspense only enhanced this page-turner. Trust me I cannot tell you, you must read. Their mission was about progress not perfection and their ability to understand that, I felt made them bond to become a stronger couple.

Yes this story was HOT, SEXY, and EROTIC. I can honestly say that Karter and Jak are giving past Hildreth character’s a HUGE run for the money. Who needs unicorns, popsicles, or basil when paint and Harley’s are involved? But to me sex that is deeply rooted in the type of love that Karter and Jak share is “…the icing on the cake of their relationship.”

As with any book I read I love when I can walk away with things that have touched me personally. I have been told in the past that if an author puts things in italics that it might have a stronger meaning. I am not sure if that was Mr. Hildreth intent but I know I giggled when I saw “junk drawer” in italics because I was immediately back in my own mother’s kitchen shifting through the drawer next to the stove to find a tape measure.
Another idea that I related to was, “Based on my lack of experience on allowing myself to feel or act upon emotions, I now felt as if I was a thirty-eight year old high school kid.” Yep Jak and I shared this feeling, *chewing gum, blowing bubble and winking*.
The final idea that I was particularly fond of that I will mention is “… I preferred having names attached to people in the tales, which were told about them. Without a name, the story meant less and it was difficult to believe.

So, SCOTT in closing Karter was not only believable, it was strong, meaningful and for me real. Well Done…. I cannot wait to see what is next. That is it, that is all I got....

☆ I received an RC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

Karter was actually an enjoyable read for me. While I didn’t exactly hit it off with Hildreth’s debut, Baby Girl, this novel was sensual, witty, and intriguing.

In other words, it was a far cry to what I’d originally pictured while coming into it. I'd figured, that it may have had some of the same ploys or writing textures as BG, but to my pleasant surprise, it had an out of the box female lead that immediately grabbed my attention and a male lead that was a former military man, need I say more?

Karter is a story of choices, second chances, and two individuals at a crossroads coming together and completing one another…wholly and entirely.

Author Scott Hildreth writes with an array of emotions that gut you and make you realize the fragility and preciousness of love in its most purest and broken form.

Very touching story line and characters!

As a little girl I remember having a conversation with my grandmother, we were talking about the boy I liked in school. I was young, and he did what boys do at that age. He picked on me and teased me. My then young grandmother, attempted to tell me that boys that age unknowingly hurt or "tease" the one they love (or ''like" in my prepubescent state). I remember asking her "Grandma what does it feel like to be in love?" Her simple response to me? "Complete." One, very simple word. Complete. That was over thirty years ago, and that? That one word answer, has always stuck with me...

Karter. This book had it all for me. This book was an absolute roller coaster. I was hooked - hook, line, and sinker, from the very, very beginning. My heart raced, and my eyes filled. There were things in this book that not everyone will get in the same way that I did. For whatever reason, I got them, and they hit me hard. There was just something about this story. That something? Was a connection to my brain, my heart, and somehow a connection to my soul. It may not make sense to anyone but me. To me, it makes perfect sense. This is a story about overcoming obstacles and getting out of your own way. This story is about not questioning the why, but relishing in the "thank you," and the "I had no idea." This story is about finding your "true north." It's about finding your better half, that missing piece that you had no idea your soul was searching for. It was about finding the part of you, that makes you, the best you've ever been. This isn't just about the words laid out by the author on the pages. This, is about the beauty between the words. The "what" our heart chooses to see. Forbidden fruit be damned. Who exactly forbade it? Society? People who have no reason passing judgement? Even ourselves, based on the beliefs of others?

Mr. Hildreth, this in my opinion is quite simply your best work to date. As complex as this story is, the underlying message is one for the ages. The love of a good soul really can make us whole. Love, in its purest form can fix our broken, and be the very glue that makes all the nonsensical, just make sense. Sometimes, true love really does conquer our biggest demon... ourselves. When the universe presents us with our missing piece, who are we to question exactly what, or who, it is that completes us?

"Life with Jak was not too good to be true, because it was true. It was real. And it was mine. And I, of all people, believed I deserved what I was being served as a repeated meal by the hand of no other than God. I never really believed in God until after I met Jak. And now, I don't know how anyone could convince me God did not exist. Who could witness something as magical as the love Jak and I felt for one another, and believe it merely happened? Everything falling into place in the manner it had was far too complex to be anything but a plan by a being greater than man."

RE-READ 08-30-23:
RE-READ 04-22-19:
I was struggling looking for something enjoyable to read and remembered how much I loved this book. It was just as great this time as it was the first time I read it. Karter and Jak are excellent characters and the story is great. It truly is a small world.

ORIGINAL REVIEW 11-23-14:
What a wonderful story! Jak is a Navy Seal who has just retired after twenty years of service. He's lost and not quite sure what to do with himself after being in the military for so long. Driving down the road, Jak sees a motorcycle stopped in the middle lane with a woman bent working on it. Stopping to offer his help, he meets Karter. Jak and Karter are instantly attracted to each other, but it's more than physical. It's emotional. There's an immediate need to be with the other person.

Both Jax and Karter have things from their pasts that they would prefer to forget. Things they don't want to talk about. But secrets don't always stay secrets.

This is the story of finding your soul mate and proving that age is nothing but a number. I don't want to give away any spoilers because to me, this story needs to be read and experienced without knowing what's going to happen. I will warn you that there's a part of the story where you'll stop breathing, and think to yourself, no flippin way. Keep reading. It'll be so worth it.

Karter is one of my favorite female leads ever. She's hilarious and more importantly, she's strong and confident. She had a not so great childhood and has learned and moved on from it. Karter didn't let it define her. She's truly bada$$ but loveable at the same time. Jax is the absolute perfect man. He's protective and tender. The loss and guilt he lived with for years, helped make him a humble and good man. The love both of these characters have for the other was so touching. I also loved Oscar's character. That man was a trip.

I loved this book! Bought it this afternoon and read it straight through. Another great book by this wonderful author.

☆☆☆☆4 So Much Sexy Stars ☆☆☆☆

This book is sexy good time reading. I giggled and had the best time reading this sexy story.

 photo PicsArt_1429489329152_zps5stjce3b.jpg

Jak, sexy retired Navy Seal, back home after 20 years. Looking for a little normalcy after so many years of sacrificing himself for his country. Jak has a few secrets and heartache, but overall, one hot piece of male walking yum.....who really needs some loving.

 photo PicsArt_1429489393673_zpsucg9zgiy.jpg

Karter, a gorgeous, tattooed, Harley chic. She says exactly what she means and uses any all colorful words to get her point accross. She dislikes all men but Mr Jak.....he twists her tummy and panties.

Her inner thoughts were giggle worth. Karter and I would be such good friends. Loved her!

Karter is a spit fire and the moment Jak comes to his damsel in biker distress, it was over for the both of them. Destiny stepped in and that was all she wrote. What they don't know, their lives are connected in multiple heart breaking ways.

The heartache is tolerable with their honesty and sexual chemistry.

These two were on fire and they knew it and didn't fight it ever. That is why I L♡VED this book so much. Honestly, this book was sexy hottness!!

I have to admit, I was a little nervous going into this
book.  But let me say, there was
absolutely NO reason for my nervousness - this book had me devouring it in no
time at all.

I adored Karter.  She was
awesome.  I loved her spunk.  She told things exactly like they were, she
was nothing but always honest - and put everything out there.  There was so much more to her, than what you
saw.  She left me wishing I could be more like her.

Jak wasn't so bad himself either.  A sexy, retired Navy Seal, trying to get his
life in order.  He meets Karter along the side of the road and helps her with her broken down
motorcycle.  That's it - after these two
meet, nothing is the same for them.
They've both altered each other's life path, and luckily they know
it.  It's amazing how life sometimes
happen, and the coincidences of meeting certain people - and how our lives are
really are all tangled together.

I really did love how Jak and Karter were with each other.  Their playfulness together had me grinning,
and I had to laugh out loud when Karter accused Jak of "short
stroking" her.  Even with their age
difference, and some other issues - their relationship was true, and you will
definitely get the HEA as promised from the synopsis.  Don't be nervous about this book like I was,
dive right in and enjoy!

Karter is described on the cover as an erotic novel. And make no mistake about it, it is. But what makes this book a cut above the rest, is that it is so much more.

We meet Jak Kennedy, the former Navy SEAL, 38 years old, not sure where his life will now lead since his recent retirement. Helping an assumed damsel in distress by the side of the road, he comes face to face with Karter Wilson. She's all of 21 years old, has the mouth of a trucker and the looks of a super model. She doesn't like men. Yet from the very first minutes and then hours together after that initial meeting, Karter might very well be hooked on Jak Kennedy, much to her surprise. And the feeling is entirely mutual.

This story is told in alternating POV's, which I personally love. We are able to get inside both Jak and Karter's heads and explore with them, the crazy ride that is their unconventional love story. They both fall fast and hard but it never feels rushed. The 17 year age gap would seem to be the biggest hurdle they would have to face. But the author very cleverly sets about revealing secrets that both Jak and Karter know could destroy their relationship. How they each decide to handle events that might not have a place in their present or future is handled brilliantly by the author. The paths chosen kept me guessing.

Yes there are plenty of erotic moments and they are written beautifully. But overall I felt this book to be about second chances. The refusal to let go when the puzzle pieces of your life are finally setting into place. The hope that love can truly conquer all and that anything in the past that might be hurtful, deserves to stay there.

The characters are extremely well written and simply enjoyable. I found myself laughing at many of the exchanges between Jak and Karter and Karter's in your face attitude to anyone in her way was a breath of fresh air. You don't wonder for a second why Jak fell for her the way he did. No whiny heroines here, thank goodness! She a badass with a heart that only beats for one man. The man destined to be hers.

This is a great book that I highly recommend. I was completely captivated and enjoyed every word. Even the times I wanted to throw my ereader. All worth it though. A huge 5 stars.

DNF @ 70%

The writing style just wasn't for me. It felt like there were missing pages and every chapter started off in the middle of a scene and it didn't help with the flow of the story at all. Everything felt so choppy.

And the insta-love was a bit much. One week in they're declaring their love. Where did this love come from?? They met, they had lunch, she invited him over, and all of a sudden they can't live without each other? Please. It was so damn corny.

And holy shit, I did not see that twist coming. I was about to throw up. I don't want to spoil it but it did ruin things a little. It just kinda tainted their relationship for me.

“If you ever leave me, I’m going to stab you in the back. You can’t do this to me.”

I admit that I am a #coverwhore, and I judge book initially because of their cover. It’s my default and it’s an impulse, whether it be one-clinking or deciding what to read.

I’ve known about Karter, this fucking great character because of the ISC event in Shh… when I was reading through the thread so I have an inkling of her personality and that actually attracted me in the first place. I just never thought she would be hot as fuck, and I’m saying that as I have a lady boner for her, seriously.

If it’s a Scott Hildreth, I know it will be intense so I try to read his works in small doses, or as far from each book as possible as I am sure I will suffer from serious bookhangover and picking to read a next book is such a bitch.

His characters were intense and were as close to common people and appeals to me in a way that I cannot quite explain. Jak and Karter were no different. Jak is intense and straightforward and is a no-nonsense person. Karter is blunt with a weird personality and has no filter.

I've enjoyed my journey reading this book. The other that is a issue for me are dates. To be honest, they are quite important because they play an important role in the story. The problem is with me as I can't keep track of it and sometimes it bothers me. But other than that? Well, Scott delivered. That's all that mattered.

All in all, this is one book I quite enjoy. With all those hot scenes and pushing boundaries. Worth recommending. And I totally enjoyed my fangirling moment with Mommy Liz with our BGF Karter. (I’ve written the first part of the review awhile back but since kiddo wanted to use the laptop, well, I just got back to it after a couple of days and I lost track of my thoughts.)

Note: I have gotten this book free in Hard Corps.

“His cock worked some type of navy SEAL magic against my civilian pussy.”

When you pick up a Scott Hildreth book, you don't just open a book, you embark on a journey. The writing commands your attention with a death grip on your senses. You walk away from his books with something that makes you a better person. Trust me when I say, it will not leave you unscathed. It doesn't matter that it's erotica. It's erotica with a purpose.
When I met the characters in Karter, especially Karter and Jak, they seemed so tangible and so real, I almost felt a little voyeuristic. Scott has a way with his characters. They become a part of me, I become protective and overly attached to some of them. He protrays their strengths and vulnerabilities in such a light that they are complex individuals who tell their own stories. Kind of like Geppetto and Pinnochio. He brings them to life.
Karter and Jak's journey begins when they meet. I could see their walls and their hopes clearly. Slowly, those walls come crumbling down, hopes are built block by block. There are obstacles, a pretty big one only by society's standards and that is something else that has to be overcome. The conflict and plot in this story is wound up and then unraveled flawlessly. The happily ever after is very understated, almost demure. I loved this.
As always, the impressive attention to detail is a work of art in itself and something to analyze the second or third time in reading this book. There is always a lesson in these journeys Scott takes us in. Always.

What a lovely surprise "Karter" was! This was my first book by Scott Hildreth and I can assure you it won't be my last. First of all, what a beautiful cover! I understand the artwork was done by the author's spouse. Kudos! It is dramatic and eye catching and suits the book perfectly! Now for the book itself...

"Karter" had it all: unique characters, great dialogue, good pacing, a bit of mystery, plot twists, and, of course, love. Karter is such a cool girl...I would love to hang out with her. Jak is solid, loving, and oh yes, HOT! I loved how the author made the ordinary act of hugging and lifting someone off the ground into something quite special between these two characters. The sex scenes were creative and fun, and oh yes, HOT!

The backstories of the characters were so intricate and detailed, I was immediately drawn into their world. Karter's quirks and Jak's warm demeanor come together in this book to create a warm, uplifting, and surprising love story. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to sampling more of the author's works.

At first I wasn't sure about the age difference or the secrets both of them kept, but it all worked out. It was an amazing story of true love!

The very important thing I always love about Scott Hildreth book was his understanding of how love work. He never failed to give us the most wise wisdom of love and this Karter book was no different.

Spoilers!!

Jak met Karter and their attraction was natural then suddenly almost explosive. The instra-love here was so damn fast that it was borderline ridiculous but damn their chemistry was over the chart!! and when they were together, like all other Scott Hildreth's book, they were so into each other that they were not just soulmates but the missing part of each other. So much so that even with 17-years difference in age, I still felt that Jak and Karter deserved each other. And the twist!! OH MY!! I loved the twist in Scott Hildreth's books. He had the way of writing it in full circle. You had to read to understand it.

Jak was a recently retired Navy SEAL. He spent almost two decade following orders. Now that he was free, he was imaging what his life was gonna be. Would he suffered trauma like most of his retired colleague? Most retired from his type of career ended up suffered in lives and even had the tendency to suicide. Fortunately for him, a tattooed angel with big bike crossed his path. Karter was different than any women he had ever encountered. And believed it or not, he had met a whole lot from all the traveling he did in his missions. He was attracted to her as she was to him. The problem?! He did not have much experience in relationship anymore and Jak wanted a relationship... not just a warm bodies... most of all, she seemed very young. He was 38 after all.

Karter, on the other hand... well she actually wanted exactly same thing. She hated men but somehow did not hate Jak. His look, attitudes, behaviors, the way he speaks all seemed to attract him to her. Most of all, he made her so hot and bothered.. for the very first time... soaking wet! The problem?! Could he be as perfect as he look? Most of all, she was only 21. Would he mind a girl so young as her.

The answer was obviously NO! But they kinda kept the age secret from each other and decided to pursue the relationship together... which went totally damn fine and fast. There was no problem about their connection or their relationship or their love. When they were finally together, it was like they were a married couple of 3o years. They couldn't even bear to be separated for even a day. The problem?! It came from external factor... like the fact that Jak ended up knowing Karter's mother. And he didn't just know her, she was his long-time ex girlfriend before he went into military. And Karter coincidentally born almost a year right after he left her. It was also shocking that the mother insisted that Karter was... HIS DAUGHTER!!! WTF!? Jak thought his world was ending. He still loved Karter and would still love her as a woman even if it was true but he would probably pull the trigger rather than not being with her. So he went on the quest to find answers. Which he finally found and relieved. And there was a twist again... Guess what, Karter's mother was a slut and slept around so Karter's father was fortunately someone else. So Jak finally had his forever with Karter. But that was not the end. At the very beginning, Karter attended the drug Rehab program where she met a elderly man who killed a boy in his drunk drive almost 40 year ago. Karter found out another secret.

Life really came in full circle for this book. They were so perfect for each other!!

4 Stars!!

As usual with Scott's books I loved this from start to finish, written in his signature way that has you hooked! Stupid real life got in the way LOL but when I finally settled down with it I couldn't put it down.
Karter is a 'free spirit' going through a bit of a tough time where everything in her life is a bit chaotic. I loved Karter from the start, a total bad arse girl with great humour!
She then meets Jak, a HOT Navy SEAL who has just retired after 20years and now has to settle in to civilian life again.
There is an instant click between them, their banter between each other is brilliant, I loved reading it and it had me laughing out loud a lot! There is an age difference, although they both worry about it and avoid telling each other....despite them both already knowing lol
I loved the story, Karter and Jak were brilliant characters, had me hooked and I really enjoyed reading them. There was alot of love between them and they both fell hard and fast without planning on it.
As usual Scott has written some lovely quotes in this, always sending a message within the story
"The events in life we can't accept are always the toughest. And the toughest events in life are always the ones we can't accept".
Another brilliant 5* read from Scott and I highly recommend it!!

Due to life and all its complications it has been quite a while since I have done any reading. When I finally got a moment to start a new book I knew I wanted something that was a guaranteed good read.
For me Scott Hildreth never dissapoints.

Karter is a total balls to the wall, take no shit kind of girl. That's enough to make you love her right? When she meets Jak, a retired Navy SEAL she feels an instant deep connection with him. At this point in a story you think "Oh hes gonna wind up being and asshole" or "she will fight the age gap (15 years)" but nope that doesn't happen here. I love that there is not of that "I love her but I don't want to love her" or I love him but let me keep making really stupid mistakes to drive us apart." There are still conflicts in the story sure, but its very refreshing to have the conflict not be between the two main characters.

I'm not sure if I am just rusty or what but a few of the twists really caught me by surprise. Didn't see them coming at all! This was a great story that keeps you on your toes and makes your heart go pitter patter.

Another Five Star Read from Scot Hildreth!!!!!

Another hit from Scot Hildreth! A just retired from the military stud slows his truck to help a free spirit working on her broken down bike. I was hooked....I loved the smart dialog..the love story unfolding ...and the brilliant twist woven through a solid story of when you find love ...you ..just..know. Scot described that feeling better than anyone for me. I call it that "thing". You know in your soul..this who you were looking for and how they just fit. This story made me laugh out loud...gasp and say NO!!!!!...and cry my eyes out. It is about Love....when it comes...don't overthink it...fight for it and just climb that tree. Bravo Scot! MUAH!

I really got overly invested in these characters. There is a point in this book that I thought I might have a melt down even though I know in my rational head no one would write a book where these sorts of things happen but here I was reading this book and freaking out. I am sure everyone in my house thought I had finally lost it. The only thing that made me upset in the end was that the characters were never completely honest with each other and didn't come clean with their pasts. I guess that is real life though...everyone keeps a part of themselves. I can't wait to read more from this author

I think that rating might be a first for me, for a Hildreth novel. That being said, I loved Karter and I loved Jak. I loved the witty banter and the no bull-shit attitude Karter possessed. There were lots of things I loved. Maybe my issue is where my head was when this book came out and perhaps at a later date I will come back , re-read and re-review.

Hildreth I love all your work and this is no different. Keep up the amazing job and I can't wait for what's next....

Woah. So, when I see Hildreth releases a book, I get it. I don't even need to read the description necessarily, I'm just that hooked.

This wasn't your totally twisted and guiltiest pleasure Hildreth tale by any means, but it was twisty. It's proof that he's a genius beyond the pages. I highlight so much of the content of his books.

Coffee cup/broken heart analogies, clandestine DNA investigations, hot Navy Seal, etc... it was just all so good I had to read it in one sitting.
