I love fluffy romance, but I generally have to be in the right mood to read them. This was one of the better fluffy romances that I’ve read, and ranks right up there with Mary Poppins and all the fluffy Harlequin holiday movies you can probably think of. It’s a feel-good love story, complete with twin little girls and a billionaire single dad.
I really liked this one. I won’t say I loved it, because I don’t think I’m there yet, but I can definitely see myself re-reading this again and again in the future, because it’s just that much of a fun book to read. I really liked how this one had art exhibits, planes, and even an enormous library. Scotland was mentioned quite a bit, and as the next book may take place in Scotland, I’m definitely interested in reading the continuation of the duology? Series?-not sure how many books will be in this, but they’re definitely well worth reading.
There’s even an Alfred in this book, and he’s even compared to the same Alfred from Batman, which I found hilariously awesome.
Overall, I’m rating this a 4/5 stars for the delightful atmosphere this book had, and the perfect timing in wanting to read an entertaining and fluffy hearted romance. My thanks to the publisher/author for providing me with this light atmospheric novel, and I highly recommend it to romance and contemporary fans all.
Hearts Abroad is the first book in Skye McNeil’s Atlas series, and it’s a book that has left me curious about the rest of the series.
I will be completely honest and say I was a wee bit uncertain about this book at first. I enjoy a good single dad story, love a good nanny story, but as there are so many out there my standard is quite high. To begin with, this one did not suck me in the way I had hoped. The overall story was interesting, the individual character storylines left me curious, yet I was not sucked into the romance. There was more back-and-forth than I usually like in these stories, and it took a while before I was completely sucked in.
The above is the reason why I gave this one a three-star rating. Later in the book, it became a four-star read, yet I couldn’t quite bring myself to round up. It’s a three-point-five-star read rounded down, yet it is a book that has left me curious about the rest of the series.
You see, even though it took me a while to get into this one, once I was sucked in I had a lot of fun. I enjoyed the characters, I enjoyed the way the story played out, and was more than happy to power through the book. There were plenty of moments where I wore a silly little smile on my face, and the emotions more than came through with this one.
This is the first book I’ve read by Skye McNeil, and I enjoyed it. Thanks goes the publisher, via Net Galley, for the opportunity to read and review. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
I loved, loved Brittany and Bailey. They are so adorable and made the book so much fun to read. The dialogue is sparkling and natural. The premise is unique. Now, the pacing is a bit slow in the middle of the book and the story went on too long, but not so much that it took away from my overall enjoyment.
Londyn Bellerose’s character is endearing. Her growing love for Callum’s daughters is amazing and touched my heart. Londyn is a loyal friend and has a child-like side to her personality that is very appealing.
Callum is an engaging hero. He has a huge reason to mistrust women after what happened with his children’s mother. Most men would be hesitant to enter into a relationship with a woman who in some ways reminds him of Jessica. His character is a bit stiff at times, but not so much that it kept me from liking him.
Now, the romance between them has many lovely moments, but Ms. McNeil dragged out the physical attraction way too much, making the story much longer than it needed to be. Unfortunately, that did color my opinion a bit. Overall though, the chemistry between the hero and heroine is good, and the book has a satisfying and very romantic ending.
If you enjoy light-hearted romances with adorable children, and can overlook the sagging middle, then you will like Hearts Abroad. I do look forward to reading the next book in this series. Happy reading!
Londyn is a free-spirited down on her luck with love and work when she takes a break from New York. Her break brings her to taking a summer job as a nanny for two beautiful little girls and their busy father. Callum is still hosting a broken heart after his baby momma left him with the girls to go live her dream. When he meets Londyn he figures she is just like his ex but as he gets to know her there are some differences he cannot deny. Londyn is there to take care of his children but in the process, she gives him something he has been missing. While he travels all over the world he is missing out on time with his kids and Londyn has no problems telling him how she feels about that. All the while they flirt around with their attraction which makes for a slow buildup in the book. Londyn gets a surprise of her life when her play gets pick up and that will bring back a time in Callum’s life that he doesn’t know how to deal with. They must fight through the obstacle and let life get in their way.
The novel’s pace seemed to slow down toward the middle and it made the relationship have a slow build up. I love the story being a single dad working all the time and a nanny trying to bridge the family together. I love the scenes with the children and how interaction with them seemed age appropriate. It’s a sweet romance and how both Londyn and Callum both deserve happiness. The only negative I have is that it is very long when it didn’t need to be and Londyn tended to be on the dramatic side. It’s a sweet love story with some cute kids thrown in.
The story follows the usual premise of a poor nanny falling for a rich single dad. Londyn is a struggling playwright whose ex-boyfriend steals her play and sells it as his own. In order to get away from it all and recover from this betrayal, Londyn decides to apply for a summer job as a nanny.
Callum is a rich Englishman whose wife left him and his two kids to pursue her own dreams of becoming an actress. Callum's initial impression of Londyn makes him believe that she is just as flighty as his ex-wife.
But when he starts spending more time around her and sees how she takes care of his kids, he starts falling for her.
Will this be just a summer fling or will it last a lifetime?
Read Hearts Abroad to find out more. Read it when you want a break from the serious dramas..
I received this for free from LibraryThing's Early Reviewers.
This book was a nice light romance with a sweet story. Very fast read and a good way to end the calendar year with an uplifting tale that even involves theatre (one of my main loves).
Well, I would like to start saying that is a swoon-worthy romance, made my heart swell with romance and love and cuteness.
The whole atmosphere was epic with family vibes and romance for days. The flirting was a slow burn that reminded me how is to flirt non stop with the one you have the googly eyes for. Also for once, the novel didn't go through the span of a week and then boom soul mates, but actually kinda worked slowly over the course of a few months which was kinda nice because you go more slow burn romance that made your toes curl and thinking were is my romance like that!
Loved the story. I mean I am a sucker for romance novels and since I have read so many I am confident to say it is worth to read it.
Londyn hasn't had much luck with men or her desired career. The play she co-wrote was picked up "way" off-broadway but her co-author and now ex-boyfriend took all the credit. She'd been trying to realize her dream for so long. When the two people closest suggested she take a summer break from NY she finally gave in. The nanny summer job had two adorable, rambunctious girls, and their gorgeous but stuffy English father.
Callum loved his girls and his job. He hated that his job kept him from spending as much time with his kids as they wanted. The new nanny was just what they needed to bring some fun into the little kid's lives. She was gorgeous, sparkling with humor and sass. Her efforts to bring some of the fun into his life didn't go unnoticed nor did her beauty.
The two grownups are very different yet drawn to each other. She had a hard time keeping her interest in him hidden. Each character is unique and easy to like. Watching them fight their interest in a losing battle is fun. She has no problem speaking her mind and sometimes wishes she'd kept her thoughts inside. He likes to see her free spirit and how much his girls love her. She lets them live and have summer fun like kids should instead of the regulated time they are used to living.
He has his memories of their mother and her abandonment. Is Londyn like that woman? Is there any chance for them to have at least a summer fling or will his commitment to work keep him from her and his children?
A light humorous love story with fun and characters you will love and cheer along in their feelings. The sexual tension is ripe without strong language and a lot of actual steam. And best of all, like all good romances it ends in a HEA. Reviewed for Words Turn Me On
4.5 star review Hearts Abroad (The Atlas Series #1) by Skye McNeil
Skye McNeil is a new author to me and I have no idea why that is. I was engrossed from the first to the last chapter and frankly was disappointed when it ended. This was a fun, light hearted romance that had me smiling throughout my read.
Callum Archer is a single dad who hires Londyn Bellerose to be his children’s nanny for the summer.
What will happen when Londyn’s sunny personality and joy of life gets to the British millionaire? Callum is rather dour and serious all the time and yet there is something about the vibrant woman that attracts him. He is detached from his children and Londyn make it her business to bring them together.
Londyn is feisty and sassy and everything that Callum dislikes and she is not afraid to speak her mind when the occasion calls for it. Frankly I loved her personality and the banter between her and Callum made for some funny moments throughout.
Callum's children nearly stole the book on occasion; it just left me with a happy feeling when I finished the book.
If your looking for a fun, romantic light read then this may well be the one for you.

“I love the way you light up a room when you walk into it. I love that you sometimes slip up and say your thoughts out loud. I love how you always see the good in life and don’t give up on your dreams. I love how you think chocolate, Chinese, and chick flicks can cure everything.”
After a rough go at screenwriting Londyn Bellerose decides to take the summer away from New York and takes a nannying job in Colorado for two of the most adorable little girls and their very British, sexy and way to busy father. Callum Archer loves his two little girls more than anything but his job as a museum curator keeps him very busy having to travel all over the world. Londyn is determined to show Callum that life is more than your job and if you don’t stop to enjoy it sometimes is it really worth having.
Callum has sworn off finding love again after his ex decided to leave him and their two little girls. However, after meeting Londyn he can’t help but be drawn into her fun-loving free spirit. Londyn lost her parents at a very young age so she knows what’s it like not having her parent’s around so when she sees how busy Callum is and the very little amount of time he has for the girls she just can’t help but try and fix that even if that means speaking her uncensored thoughts.
This was a cute read especially if you have a thing for single dad books with a sexy British accent. I did find Londyn at bit annoying at times with how hard of a time she gave Callum about working. Although I do agree he certainly did not have a very good balance, but I felt like she wasn’t always showing him respect for his work which was also his passion. Overall it was a good quick read!
Are you in the mood for romance between a hot Brit and an up and coming playwright? Then treat yourself to Skye McNeil's latest novel, Hearts Abroad. This is a fast-paced and well-written read that begins in New York City, takes a turn in Denver, and concludes in the historic city of London. The plot grabbed my attention right from the start, while the characters made me swoon, smile, and even laugh from time to time. This is the first book from the author's brand new series, The Atlas Series, and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.
Londyn Bellerose needs a break from her chaotic life in NYC. Putting her probable screenwriting career on hold, she temporarily relocates to Denver, where she has accepted a summer job as a nanny. Her new boss, Callum Archer, is hot, British and quite wealthy. Although his job as a museum curator is very busy and important, his two young daughters are his pride and joy. Almost immediately, Londyn becomes the mother figure the girls truly need, while bringing fun and adventure into their lives. At the same time, she and Callum begin to develop feelings for one another.
Londyn and Callum are truly charming together. Their flirting is fun and seductive, so when they finally sleep together it is more than just lust. However, a little more heat between them would have been dynamite.
This is an entertaining read that I liked immensely. Ms. McNeil's writing style is straightforward and easy to understand. All the characters come across as genuine and interesting. This book was truly an enjoyable escape, and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Londyn has always dreamed of having one of her plays on Broadway. She moved to Queens in hope that she would get the lucky break she had been waiting for. She lives with her best friend in a one bedroom apartment, and her cat. Her aunt suggests that Londyn come back home for the summer holidays and find herself a summer job. Her Aunt has a new beau and Londyn feels a bit uncomfortable with their PDA's and gets straight into looking for work. She decides to apply for a job in Colorado as a Nanny for two little girls. Before she knows it, she has the job and is on her way.
She is amazed by the mansion that they call their summer home. She will be looking after two beautiful red hair girls whilst their father Callum is away travelling for his work. Callum is a curator at a museum and is often away for days to weeks at a time. Londyn first meets the girls grandmother, a strong-willed woman who you wouldn't want to cross. Londyn loves the little girls and enjoys the time she spends with them. She wants to build the relationship between the girls and their father.
Londyn has unlimited access to a car and money to take the girls on outings. It is a dream job. When Londyn meets Callum her heart skips a beat. He is very handsome and has a English accent that Londyn finds hard to resist. She finds herself getting more and more attracted to Callum and his beautiful daughters. But Londyn knows that she is only there for the summer holidays, then she returns to her best friends apartment and struggling Broadway career. Does Londyn take a chance for love or return home without taking the chance on her heart.
Skye has written a wonderful romantic novel that I have really enjoyed reading from the beginning. I enjoyed the humour, and I often found myself having a bit of a giggle while reading. I liked how Londyn often would put her foot in it whenever she found herself flustered when she was around Callum. I found the characters very likeable and the story and characters build nicely. I certainly enjoyed the build up of the relationship between Londyn and Callum. I loved the mention of the chick flicks in the book, as I have seen the ones mentioned, myself, as many times as Londyn. It makes a good book when you can identify yourself with the characters. I highly recommend you to read this book if you are after a romantically funny read. The best thing I will take away from this book is Londyn's three C's that cure everything. Chinese food, Chocolate, and chick flicks. I would like to add one thing to that list which I am about to indulge in now, wine!! 😊
I'm still getting my thoughts together on this one. Ok thoughts together. The author reached out to me to review this for her. Thank you. The story is probably labeled as a romance in a contemporary setting. It’s about Londyn who is an aspiring play writer and her ex-boyfriend was chosen to direct her play that she wanted to direct. So she goes on a vacation to write and figure out her next move when a job opportunity comes up with an extremely well-off family, a father with two young girls in Colorado. The father, Callum works as a curator in a museum and flies frequently back and forth from Colorado and London. Londyn comes into the picture and is this attractive, appealing women who Callum is interested it but she is similar to his ex and he isn’t sure that she’s kind of worth the effort. Then starts an extremely slow burn romance. There was this really funny scene in fact two really fun steamy scenes that stick out for me early on, so not really spoilers but there’s one where Londyn is like getting all hot and bothered by Callum’s sexiness and she takes off her sweater with I think like his mom and his daughter’s and all she has on underneath is a bra and it’s just totally second hand embarrassment and hilarious. Could happen to the best of us. Then the other scene I think is like directly after that when Callum is trying to release some of his pint up sexual energy and he goes for a swim and Londyn is in the hot tub just watching him and checking him out. It’s cute and so totally relatable.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
Londyn takes a nanny job, while thinking what to do about her play writing. Since her 'boyfriend' stole the last play she wrote, she thinks she might give up. A summer out of town, looking after two little girls, might give her the clarity she needs. She just never expected to fall in love with the girls or their daddy. Callum is a museum curator and spends a lot of time away from his family. But the new nanny makes him see, really see, what that is doing to his girls. He just didn't see Londyn coming!
This was a really great, fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
It's well told, with both Callum and Londyn having a say, in the third person. We get all of Londyn's stressing about her playwriting, and how much fun she wants the girls to have. We get all of Callum's fretting over his feelings for the nanny, and we get his dawning realisation that it might not just be infatuation.
I liked the marked differences between Londyn and Callum, it made me giggle in some places!
It's funny, it's witty, it's sexy and it's emotional. It has a little bit of everything! It's one of those books you just fall into, you know, and the book runs out before the afternoon does.
It's the first book I've read of Ms McNeil, and I look forward to reading more.

Review: An aspiring playwright, Londyn leaves New York for a change of scenery after her good for nothing ex-boyfriend takes credit for a play they co-wrote and gets a coveted spot at their New York community theater. She takes a summer job as a nanny at a posh estate in Colorado for two delightful English girls. And, of course, the single dad Callum is a scrumptious British museum curator. Both Callum and Londyn immediately have the hots for each but dance around each other wondering "what-if" and each drooling over wanting a summer fling.
All the characters are fun in Hearts Abroad. You see Londyn and Callum struggle over their mutual attraction being constantly worried if they should act and if they both feel the same way. Callum loves Londyn's free spirit and how she cares for his girls. Londyn is swept away by Callum's love for his kids (despite his constant absences) and his hot accent.
As a romance where the characters are constantly talking/thinking about jumping each other's bones, it was surprisingly tame. It is a sweet story that is a great escape- very much like a Hallmark Movie. Cute couple, cute kids, certain hang-ups, but you know when they are together they sizzle and you enjoy the anticipation.
When I first saw the cover of ‘Hearts Abroad’ I was fascinated by this book. It’s definitely an eye catching cover. So when the author emailed me about this book, I definitely was excited to start reading this one. After reading this book, I don’t necessarily think this cover fits this sweet slow-burning romance, but it’s still pretty and I’m curious to see the other covers in this series.
From the moment I started reading ‘Hearts Abroad’ I really enjoyed this read. Both main characters are really fun to get to know. Londyn, is this fun girl who keeps going after her dreams although things aren’t going the way she hoped. For the summer Londyn takes a job as a nanny and soon spends her days with two little girls. What she didn’t expect was to meet their handsome dad, the very British and rich Callum Archur. Callum is a museum curator and a workaholic. Londyn and Callum couldn’t be more different. But there is a chemistry between them from the very beginning.
The romance between Londyn and Callum was really fun to read about. It was a very slow building romance which I adored. It just had this thing about it that made this read really fun and hard to put down. I really enjoyed reading how Londyn and Callum slowly got to know each other and well.. Callum’s very British character definitely was fun too. I loved how this romance took it’s time to build, although the attraction was there from the beginning.
There where several moments in this book that made me laugh out loud. For example the moments where Londyn spoke without realizing she was saying her thoughts out loud. This book definitely had some very humorous moments.
The one problem I had with this book was the ending. To me it felt a little rushed. The rest of this book is sweet and perfectly slow.. unlike most romance stories these days you really get to witness this romance build. But the end just went a little to fast for me. I wished the author took her time more there, and maybe a little less in the beginning.
But overall, this was a great read and I can’t wait to read more books in this series. Millionaires and romance.. there’s just something about them.
Skye McNeil is a new author to me and I have no idea why she hasn’t crossed my radar before now, I really enjoyed Hearts Abroad and I will certainly be checking out her other books. Londyn Bellerose takes a summer job after breaking up with her boyfriend and this job is just what she needs to get her life back on track what she didn’t expect was her boss to be a hot Englishman with a body and an accent to die for...... Callum Archer is a single dad who needs a nanny for the summer as he spends his time criss crossing back and forth across the Atlantic for his job as a museum curator. His heart has been broken one before by his daughters mother, he needs a nanny nothing more but that’s about to change as he spends some time with the fun loving Londyn and his daughters ...... This story captivated me from the first page to the very last line and I really didn’t want to end it has everything I love in a romance, it was fun, it had characters I could relate to and it had two adorable little girls that stole a piece of my heart. If you are looking for a sweet light hearted romance look no further than Hearts Abroad because I’m sure you will love it as much as I did.
If you are looking for a sassy, funny and sweet book to read then you might have just found the right book for you!
I truly loved this book! It had a very 'light' feel to it and I read through it without once feeling that I had to take a step back and re-read a line or a paragraph so as to 'get' what the author was trying to say.
Londyn is an aspiring screenplay writer who, after a heartbreak, decides to take a break for the summer and visits her aunt so as to get some rest. But when a job opportunity comes up for her to be the nanny of 2 young girls she jumps to the chance since she loves children and she could also could use the money. I liked Londyn's character. She was funny, sassy and clever. A young woman who thrives for the best and who wants to achieve it. Skye made a point to show the reader that even though Londyn was very beautiful and clever she was not even aware of it which, to my eyes, transformed her into such a likeable and approachable person.
Then we have Callum, our alpha male of the story! Callum is a single dad and a very successful museum curator. Due to his job he travels a lot and all over the world which means he does not have as much time as he would like to spend with his 2 lovely daughters. Callum has had his heart broken in the past and since then he just threw himself into work. Callum's character was also very likeable. At first he seamed very tough and cold, if I may, but he slowly changes and you are left to see a very sweat, romantic guy who has very gentlemanly manners.
Overall the story was great. It was written at a great pace that allowed you to actually watch the whole story unfold. It was not rushed at all. I also enjoyed the ending of the book and I thought that it nicely thought out and that it was not just written to end the story. I believe that Skye took her time to give us a beautiful love story with a sweet ending.
Callum is a stuffy, single dad who needs fun in his life. Enter his new nanny, Londyn, who is a bright, sassy woman who throws his world into chaos, but is just what the doctor ordered. There's chemistry, but it's a slow burn situation, which does get frustrating at times, but it's super fun nonetheless. See there's a cast of secondaries who make up cute tiny humans, a very serious grandmother, a hot chauffeur, and a butler who reminded me of Batman's Alfred, so I was a bit disappointed that Callum wasn't Bruce Wayne undercover. However, there comes a point when Callum liked to rile up Londyn, which I found entertaining from time to time, but also wanted to choke at other times, because why?! He knows he's her employer, he knows she's taking care of his children, and he knows she wants to keep things professional. Anyway, this was a fun, feel good romance that I enjoyed a ton from the awesome Skye McNeil, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Part of what drew me to this book was the fact that it is a romance, an author I have never heard of before but the icing on the cake was the fact that the main male character was British. I don’t know about you, but when the characters have accents I tend to read them with that accent in my mind. I was hoping that it wouldn’t disappoint.
Londyn is doing what she loves. She working in the theater and writing what she hopes will be her huge break as a playwright. The job might not pay super well and it might now always be a given that she will even have work but she loved it anyway. That all came to a screeching halt when her ex-boyfriend put his name on a play that she wrote and managed to get it picked up for production. Her world came crashing down around her. She felt betrayed and hurt but what she was the most was angry. She goes home to wallow in self-pity and to utilize her three C’s– Chocolate, Chick Flicks, and Chinese food. She sees that her aunt who raised her from 10 years old has called her. She calls and tells her aunt all about her play. Her aunt suggests coming home to Iowa for the summer. Her aunt says that she will pay Londyn’s portion of the rent for her crackerbox apartment. Londyn agrees and off she goes to Iowa. While living with her aunt she feels out of place. Her aunt has recently started dating and she feels a bit like a third wheel. She finds online a nanny job which she applies for and gets. Once there she falls in love with the two girls that she is caring for. Eventually, she starts to fall for Callum, the father of the two girls. As things progress between them she begins to wonder how she can leave this family at the end of the summer and head back to New York City. Will they tell each other how they feel before its too late? Will the girls’ estranged mother, who suddenly reappears, drive a wedge between the two?
I absolutely LOVED this book. I read it in about two days. I didn’t want it to end. The book was fast paced and well written. The characters are well rounded and you can see what they look like in your mind’s eye. There is romance, obviously, but it’s not over the top and ridiculous. I honestly don’t know what else to say about this book. It is, so far, the top book I have read this year. Granted that isn’t much time but its true. This book was cute and kept me turning the pages long after I should have. I will keep an eye out for more books by this author and add the books she has written to my to-be-read stack.
Hearts Abroad is a sweet, heartwarming romance between the smart, sassy independent Londyn and the stuffy, hardworking Brit, Callum. Londyn ends up working as the nanny for his two girls for the summer and ends up falling in love with the two lovely young girls. She not only showed them how to enjoy life but she also opened the door for Callum to learn to take more time with his girls and let go a bit from his work focused life. There was an attraction between them that grew as they spent more time together but the key was balancing both of their worlds and finally giving into an attraction neither could deny. This is the first book by Skye McNeil that I have had the chance to read and I will definitely check out more of her books.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it and can't wait to read more of her books. This book was so good, it had all the feels...it was more of a light read (at first anyway) and then there was the angst and the pull at your heart strings moments (that did make me tear up a little) and then there is always the feel good moments. I really loved how much Bethany and Bailey were a part of this story...I feel so in love with these two little girls and Londyn is just perfect as their nanny.
I love getting a book that is the debut for the author which this one is. I am a big fan and look forward to book 2 in the series as it was really good. The writing flowed and the story line really worked. Sometimes it is hard to write about real life situations and be sensitive but Skye the author really handled them all very well indeed. The comedy is absolutely brilliant in it, ( I nearly snorted my tea out of my nose) and the characters are written well. I look forward to reading the next book.
Londyn needs a break from New York so takes a job working for English curator Callum. Soon she is having the summer of her life looking after his two wonderful daughters but is she falling for their father.
Aww this is such a cute story. It's fairly obvious how this story will go and yet I loved it so much. It's a nice and light read with the odd moment of drama in it. The story flows well and the ending us just beautiful. I love Londyn she's so much fun and Callum is great too. What a pairing, a lovely summer romance novel.
This is the book for you if you like the slower to get to romance story. I like how the "hero" had to work through his issues with help of the "heroine" before the romance actually came forth. The characters were well developed and I could find reason to empathize with all of them from Londyn's uncertainty of where she fit in to Callum's emotional baggage. The supporting characters were also as entertaining as the main. There was a perfect level of lust, conflict, and romance. I loved the show "The Nanny" and to me this book was an updated version with some major differences. Definitely a read again book and am looking forward to getting Book 2 in the series and see how that one pulls at my heart.
This is the first book in a new series from Skye McNeil about an opposites attract, sort-of enemies (or at least distrusting acquaintances) to lovers romance. Ms McNeil’s writing flows very smoothly throughout, is engaging and accomplished. Those pages kept themselves turning! She’s definitely an author I will look for again in the future.
The story is a slow, sweet romance that follows a well-known tale. In fact, it’s almost a standard storyline of stiff-upper lip Brit whose life is ‘turned upside down’ by a free-spirited, carefree American who’s been employed as a nanny for his children. It’s got all the elements of a Hallmark/Disney teen type movie including teaching the American to dance, realising what’s most important - job or family, after the disruption of said job by hijinks and shenanigans, of course! I even vibe felt a Sound of Music vibe with the nanny helping the children learn to have fun.
Now none of this is a bad thing. In fact, I love those types of movies and I’ve spent many an afternoon watching them and getting that same happy and comfortable feeling from them that I got with this book. However, following a tried and true pattern can only ever make this a good book rather than a great one.
I liked both Londyn and Callum - separately and together. I feel that Londyn could have easily become a cliched stereotype but instead was a well-rounded and interesting character. I was rooting for her. Likewise for Callum but I did feel, as the book progressed, that he was turning into the cliched English lord type with the family who disdained of anyone not of their rank or wealth.
The romance was really sweet and cute - but hot and steamy it was not. There were no passionate clinches, no ripping clothes off each other and no sweaty sessions. There was one sex scene which did have a little more oomph than the rest of the book - but other than that, it was very much a tame affair. (This didn’t affect my rating - just stating it so folk will know whether it will suit them or not.)
Because it is a sweet romance at its heart - I feel I have to mention the few f-bombs in the story. No problem at all for me but some folk wouldn’t necessarily expect them.
I’m always slightly wary of a Brit popping up in a book set in America. Would he Dick Van-Dyke it up or would he be slightly more subtle? Mostly subtle - I’m happy to say. Just a few ‘let’s throw in a Britishism’ to make this more legit but not enough to annoy. And only a few moments when England and Britain become interchangeable but that’s always going to be a bug bear of mine.
I very much enjoyed this book. It’s a fun way to pass a couple of hours and you’ll finish with a satisfied feeling that you’ve enjoyed a light-hearted tale of love conquering all. The adorable cover deserves its own mention and should I see something similar for the following books in the series then I’ll be sure to give them a go.
