ALTERNATE COVER FOR : B004ZMVREW Last year Xoe's life was turned upside-down. Things haven't improved much. With the lives of her friends at risk, Xoe forgets to worry about another life...her own. With the reappearance of a face from her very distant past, and a random string of abductions to deal with, Xoe has to fight to keep things together. Even if 'together' is a far cry, ahem...howl, from the norm.

I loved the first book that I grabbed on Amazon for free. I was tickled to see more books available in this series. So I immediately purchased this book to jump right back into the story.
I started reading to find the main female character *Xoe* absolutely whiny. I laid the book down and walked away to have the thought of how she was carring on like a fifteen year old. This was so out of character from what she appeared in the first book -for me anyways. Well when I come back and picked the book back up, it was as if S.Roethle had read my mind and at that moment Xoe says "I'm only 16."
I have a habit of comparing and my daughter gets on to me for this but it still happens. So the first book smelled a bit like Twilight in the beginning but quickly took on its on form. Now this book has reminded me of a beloved series *Anita Blake by Laurell Hamilton.*
It is a cute story of an anti-social girl coming into her powers by birth, meeting her dad, and picking up friends along the way like fleas.
The book is written with such an air that you glide through it before you realize it. I love a good quick read. ;) Bravo Sara Roethle!
Xoe and Anita both have powers that grow along the way which makes for fun. They both collect friends and would lay their life down for them. They both have vampires, werewolves, demons and humans in their lives and wouldn't have it any other way.
Difference in Anita and Xoe... well is the fact Anita Blake was a grown woman it is ADULT series. Xoe is a teen and this is written with that pure innocence.

I rarely find the 2nd book stacking up much less being better than the first, but in this case, Accidental Ashes was much better, the characters more identified and the plot taking some interesting twists....hmmmm...Xoe's dad..her mom... Chase....Jason the .... what's a heroine to do....can't wait to start 3 book....wheepie! Let's see what happens...
Xoe's life is anything but normal after all she's the daughter of a powerful demon. One of her best friends is still dealing with being a werewolf and she's dating a vampire. However, their lives are threatened when werewolves and witches are disappearing up the coast. Worried that Xoe may be in danger her father sends a young demon to keep an eye on her and protect her.
Xoe's got her plate full as her friends want to make her the alpha of their little pack so they can get set up with the werewolf coalition. She doesn't need the threat of being abducted but it comes knocking taking her friends. What's a demon to do but go against her father's wishes and hunt them down even if it means risking herself.
I love Xoe so much she's such a great character. Willing to take on the role of an alpha werewolves pack so her friends will safe. I admit that I like Jason he may be a vampire but he's the added support she needs as she risks her life for her friends. I wasn't sure about Lela as we only had a little glimpse of her in the prior book but she's proven her loyalties.
Accidental Ashes starts right after the end of the first book Xoe: or Vampires, and Werewolves, and Demons, Oh My! I actually just finished the first one a few weeks ago and haven't stopped thinking of Xoe's world. Xoe and her friend's worlds have changed dramatically in just a short time and continue to evolve. I truly enjoyed every page and actually finished the book in just a few short house. I love the characters they are easy to connect with you can't help cheering them on. The author has done a beautiful job creating a captivating story which is unique and exciting. I enjoyed Accidental Ashes it was hard to put down and I ended up finishing it in one session. I highly recommend for fans of Young Adult Urban Fantasy. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next as she's going to have to accept her demon side.
This is the second book in the Xoe Meyers series. The book picks up a little after the first one. Xoe, is building relationships with Chase, the rest of her friends and her father and facing new challenges. The author seems to be more comfortable with the characters and there are less grammatical errors. I actually enjoyed this book more than the first. I highly recommend this entire series!
The life and times of Xoe, , picks up more or less immediately after the end of the last book. And certain plot lines that weren't completed in that one continue in this one ().
Most of the important characters from the previous book continue to appear in this one (though Xoe remains the most important; and some disappeared here or there); with the addition of a few new-comers - like a fella named Chase. And another named Alexandre and . . well, you get the idea. More people).
It should be noted that the main character is somewhere around 16 to 17 and the author did a fairly good idea of creating character around that age - bearing in mind two things - 1) she's 'different' than the normal 16 year old - literally, since she's half-not-human and there are major implications of that that impact her life; 2) it has been at least 21 or so years since I was a teenager, sooo . . . maybe the main character is 'obviously' acting too young or too old, but - from my long distance perspective, they appear to be about right.
This specific story here picks up from the end of the last - a group of friends have gotten together, some are 'fantasy' creatures, or in some way 'half-creatures', and they continue attempting to just live. They aren't the Scooby bunch, here to solve mysteries and reveal controversies (here thinking back to the original cartoons I saw, not referring to the movies I hadn't seen; though working in the part where the Buffy the vampire slayer group liked using that term for themselves might work - they aren't the chosen one of this generation to vanquish evil . . . etc. etc. . . ). Or, if they are, they haven't been told yet. No, they are just trying to live their odd little lives. Interacting with each other, other outside creatures, and long lost parent types.
A good solid book. Somewhat thin. Both the previous and this book had a kind of comfortable 'fluffy' vibe, which probably says more about myself than the books since several people died horribly in both books. Fluffy deaths. heh.
I liked both books I've read so far in this series. And to think, I only tried this because the first book started with an X and I wanted an X for a challenge. Just a little random tip for authors - include a hook to get readers, could be any random thing - lovely lush covers, grim covers, pun-filled titles, or just having a title that uses a less well-worn letter of the alphabet.
This was such a genuine joy to read and yet again I demolished the story in one day. The writing had a wonderful flow to it which was why the pages turned so quickly. We find Xoe and her friends have grown even closer, and given that Xoe is a bit whiny and tempestuous in this second book of the series, we need to remind ourselves that she is a typical young teen emotionally, even if her crankiness is getting out of hand a la half demon. Her mother must have a wonderful insurance policy, because Xoe's using it to the max with the way she keeps exploding and combusting household items. The poor girl has a lot to deal with - her absent father returns to guide her in using her powers, she gets stuck with a personal demon bodyguard called Chase care of her father and she becomes embroiled in a series of kidnappings and murders of supernaturals. The novel certainly packs a punch and a lot of story into it's plot. I'm reading the third of the Xoe Meyers series now. I had to put my other book down as I was just so involved with the world of the half demon. If that isn't a sign of a seriously good book, then I dont know what is.
I'm really enjoying this story! After finishing the first book (Xoe: or Vampires, and Werewolves, and Demons, Oh My! ) I did have some doubts about whether of not I liked the story and character development, but here I am, and I love it. Seeing the characters come to life, with new ambitions and the upcoming plot twist is truly stunning. I'm very much expecting a lot from the third one, Broken Beasts. The originality in this story is so up my alley! The only complaint I have is of how short this one was, but it sure was sweet! (Get it, short and sweet?)
I honestly feel like I liked the first book better than this but it was still pretty good. So now as Xoe tried to control her powers, someone shows up to help her with that. (Spoiler, her dad!) Even though Xoe doesn’t want anything to do with him, he won’t leave her alone so now she has a “bodyguard” named Chase. Meanwhile, it is also Christmas time. But something not jolly has been happening. Supernatural beings have been disappearing. So that’s why Xoe has a bodyguard now. Also, Xoe is now the alpha of a wolf pack. I’m excited to see what happens in the 3rd book!
So cute. This is the 2nd book in the Xoe Meyers series and I really likes it. Young adult. Clean. Teenage vampires, demons and werewolves along with normal teen drama. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ Still with the obsession on what people wear though not as much as in the first book. Continues from 1st book very well. No continuity issues. I love the new characters. Wondering where things are going to go with Chase. 🙃 Honestly not a big fan of Jason tho the back-and-forth with Xoe is hilarious. His character is so immature and weak to me. Vamp up, already! 😈😄 Now, on to book 3.
I enjoyed this book much more than the first. There was more action, definitely but that isn't why. It wasn't as slow, plodding and wordy. I missed the strong-female-not-relying-on-male vibe that Xoe had before but we all change in a relationship and this was minor. I absolutely look forward to continuing this series.
Uber predictable. I was disappointed that I knew who the villain was. I read the first 2 novels on KU, but weirdly, book 3 is not available on KU even though book 4 is. Sorry, I'm not paying extra for book 3. This novel wasn't compelling or even rivetting enough. so maybe I'll skip to 4 and see if I can pick it up without being too lost. Otherwise, this is the end.
Well written and gripping. Definitely keeps you reading well past bedtime. A plot that is out of the ordinary enough to keep you guessing. Really can deliver the tension, during the action. And you feel the relationships and love the characters, but without the wrenching misery dealt out by so many. Situationally LOL funny, and a snarky little mouth on the teens.
Okay, I thought the first book of this series was terrible, but this one was much better. Still simple and not great, but I actually found myself caring about the characters and the plot more. It was okay for a Saturday afternoon of entertainment.
I actually enjoyed this one more than the first book in the series. Although, there were some places where the behaviour of the characters - especially the main character's Mother - wasn't believable, which stopped me loving it as much as I otherwise would have.
The writing quality is better in the second book. It's easier to read and it helps you connect with the characters more. There is still a lot of drama going on and we meet new characters. I'm off to book 3 to see what happens next.
A very good follow up to the first book I really enjoyed it. Loved how easy it was to reconnect with the characters pretty much immediately. Loving the additions too! Can’t wait to see what Xoe is capable now daddy is here to teach her. Recommended!!
I read the series before a while back, but it's just so good that I decided I needed to read it all again. I love Xoe's adventures and can't wait to start on the next book again. It's like having a favorite movie that you watch over and over. Absolutely love it!
I still don’t see how these are all that different from the twilight books. They’re just poorly written fan fiction. Probably will read the third one and then stop after that. There is really nothing holding my interest.
Action monsters, Demons, werewolves, vampires ... inlaws and outlaws. A bit of humor here and there. Obtained for free from Amazon on December 31, 2016, obtained 3 volume box set. The Xoe Meyers Series: Books 1-3 (Xoe Meyers Young Adult Urban Fantasy Book 0).
I enjoyed this a bit more than the first one. The majority of the characters are quite naive, they are teens, after all. They are growing into themselves. I'm here for it.
