Peter Morwood was an Irish novelist and screenwriter. He is best known for his Horse Lords and Tales of Old Russia series. He lived in Ireland with his wife, writer Diane Duane, with whom he co-authored several works.

Gripping from the beginning, the books follow the trials of clan-less Aldric Talvalin as he discovers who he is and walks the balance between a strict code of honour and the need to do what is right.

Taking elements of feudal Japan in terms of the swordplay and honour system, the books gradually introduce the reader to the political machinations of the lords of Alba and the strange magic that both confronts and supports the main character.

The books are well written and the tortured main character is both credible and intriguing.

I bought these books when they were first published in the 90s. I still have them. I've kept them through many moves and clear outs. I've re-read them many times and enjoyed them each time. I've now bought the first three on my kindle which I read and enjoyed them all over again. Its a pity the final novel in the series " warlord's domain" is not available on kindle so I will have to re-read my paper back

A jolly good read

A good storyline spread over 3 books. Each of which was a good standalone story. I thought it well thought out and maintained accuracy of character and narration, so often lost these days.

A trilogy to immerse yourself in!

This read was most engaging--not a cookie cutter fantasy. It had very interesting characters and the storyline was fresh and had surprising change ups in the action and plot shifts.

A little bit formula, but what isn't. The internal struggles were just as fierce as the external quests. Some interesting premises.

A low-3. The warrior+ mage interaction was interesting then they graphted-on a female character for a while. I skipped to see the battle resolution. It was pretty cool but I'm stopping at one volume.
