Within its first year A Guide to Australian Bushranging has gained a strong following and continues to grow, approaching aspects of Australia’s bushranging history and surrounding culture that aren’t being examined or explored elsewhere. More than just a place to share pictures or news articles, the aim of A Guide to Australian Bushranging has always been to reveal many of the hidden nooks of the history and expand the knowledge of the subject so that more and more people are inspired to connect with this wide-ranging history that really binds the people to the land through extraordinary people and stories.

Within this book you will find a selection of articles from the first year of A Guide to Australian Bushranging, edited and elaborated on with new illustrations. This is a celebration of some of the most popular content and characters featured on the site as well as a mission statement for the future.

About the author

Aidan Phelan was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1986. He attended school in Greensborough and Eltham, then completed tertiary qualifications at NMIT (later known as Melbourne Polytechnic), Australian Catholic University and RMIT. He is the historian and writer for A Guide to Australian Bushranging, an online resource that focuses on the history of banditry in Australia, which he started in 2017. He also provided illustrations for Judy Lawson's book, The Clarke Bushrangers: Innocent Until Proven Guilty (2nd edition.)

In 2020 he published his first novel, Glenrowan, which depicts the final months of the notorious Kelly Gang. He has since written or contributed to many more, including Aaron Sherrritt: Persona non Grata (2022), Ned Kelly: The Bullet-Proof Bushranger (2023) and The Widow (2024).
