Charlotte Ivey and the Vanished Valkyrie

Rate this book
Charlotte Ivey is a little bit Indiana Jones, a little bit Stephanie Plum, and a whole lotta entertainment!

Pillaged apartment? Check. Mysterious Death? Check. Hot Neighbor with a Badge? Check. Charlotte’s got a lot going on for a high school English teacher. And that’s not even her area of expertise! No, she’s a professional archaeologist, and she's fallen into some international political intrigue with an arrogant, sexy, adrenaline-seeking Scot, (Just who is this guy, anyway?) while looking for an artifact of historical significance. Some might even call it treasure...

A few years ago Sherry had an epiphany. Life is what you make it- and she was ready to make it HERS. So, she grabbed the bull by the horns and quit her job at a tech startup to pursue personal passions and adventure dreams. She successfully taught herself graphic design. She hiked 558 miles through southern California on the Pacific Crest Trail. She wrote some romances and self-published them.

Charlotte is a well-educated, young woman who has traveled the world. But she isn’t some stuffy intellectual. She’s corky and fun. Her current distraction, a very good-looking neighbor who just happens to be father of twins and a police officer. She spends her days teaching ninth-graders English, but there is a part her that longs for Europe again. And she feels somewhat claustrophobic in her small town in Texas. But things are about to get really scary for Charlotte. She receives a phone call from her old colleague inviting her to a digging site in Norway and then strange things start happening, dangerous life-threatening situations change her fate, forcing her to return to a part of the world she has been longing to visit since her college days. But will she forget about her sweet neighbor when she encounters her old colleague’s handsome, rich, brother (yes Outlander fans he’s a Scottish lord!)
There is a phenomenon in reading that I can only describe as the flow. It is connection between writer and reader. In which their words flow so well that you feel you are being carried by a stream. There are no abrupt pauses or questioning eyebrow raises, just lovely flowing words. I did not intend to finish this book so early, but the MC drew me in. Not only, because I felt like I could relate to her on many levels, but because the dialogue was seamless. Four words to describe this novel: witty, clever, light and fun. The romance is not too heavy which is my personal preference and the mystery isn’t so mind-boggling that you have to stop and think too hard. It was a welcomed respite from heavy fantasy and sci-fi novels, which I read plenty of. If you need a quick read, this is the one. It has the style of contemporary with the thrill of a light mystery. A fast-paced delivery that will have readers thoroughly entertained.

Dr. Charlotte Ivey is bored. She is bored of the same daily routine of a teacher. She used to do excavations. Travel. Discover. Explore. She yearns to do it again, but with her sick grandmother she is stuck in Texas doing the norm. You know how the old saying goes: Be careful what you wish for, for it may come true? Well she should have headed the old warning. One day she gets a surprising and unsuspecting phone call from an old colleague saying he has found a long lost site and an artifact and if she would help him. It's the middle of the school year. She has to wait, but send me the information. That's when things start to go wrong. There is a break in at her apartment. Someone runs her off the road. Could these things be connected? Together with Alaric's brother, James, she will get to the bottom of this and why people are after the artifact. Why would someone be willing to kill to keep her silent?

This book has such a mix of suspense, mystery and romance that I don't even know which label to give it. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend and can't wait to read the next part releasing Aug. 3rd!

Dr. Charlotte Ivey is a brilliant woman who’s hit a slump. It happens to the best of us. While she is yearning for the excitement of her former archaeology days, she might just need to be careful what she wishes for. A phone call from an old flame starts her down a dangerous path as she gets whisked up in a world of intrigue. And we are all along for the sexy, jet-setting thrill ride! If you’re looking to escape your own living room for a few hours, this is the book to do it with. From the humidity of Texas to the hills of Scotland and the caves of Norway, you’re in for a treat!

Charlotte Ivey teaches English at the local high school, but she uses to be an archeologist going on cool adventures and digs in other countries. Life in Texas is very dull in comparison... until her hot police man neighbor starts hitting on her, and then her apartment gets robbed and more disasters happen. Before she knows it, she’s on the other side of the world searching for a Valkyrie idol.

This was a great and fast read, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Independent!

Charlotte is a person who may “think” too much on certain things, but she’s definitely not scared to take chances to get to the bottom of a situation. Mystery and romance make good partners. Can’t wait for a sequel! Great job.

A nice blending of action and hot men (some in uniform!)

I wasn’t sure what to expect but I had high hopes as I love Stephanie Plum. I enjoyed the fast pace and the hot men. Thanks for the escape from reality.

I liked the fast pace and the attractive men. The mystery kept you interested and led you along, and when you weren't too concerned about the main mystery (of the missing idol), you were engrossed in the various men who were equally mysterious.

Charlotte is a professional archaeologist, but life and family matters have her moving back to her hometown in Texas, working as a high school teacher. She misses the excitement of archaeological digs and discovering historical artifacts. That is, until she gets a call from her old colleague (and crush) asking for her help. The Charlotte Ivey series is full of fun, adventure, a little mystery, and a lot of romance! It follows her adventures and the love triangle she finds herself in. 💕

4⭐ I really enjoyed these books! They're fun and not super long, so you can read them pretty quickly.
