Haunting Danielle #15

The Ghost and Little Marie

Rate this book
The family of Adam Nichols show up in Frederickport when Marie ends up in a nursing home with a broken hip.

Yet unlike Adam, who is trying to get his grandmother home, the new arrivals are more concerned with selling off her assets and keeping her in the questionable facility.

While Danielle tries to help her dear friend, she begins wondering, maybe not having a family has its good points after all. And it’s not just Marie’s family causing problems, Walt’s distant cousin begins making his own demands.

The Ghost and Little Marie by Bobbie Holmes
Haunting Danielle # 15

I cried a lot while reading this book. I just couldn't believe one of my favorite characters died. 😭

It is the week of Thanksgiving and Marie is in a rehab facility. Marie is Adam's grandmother and a dear friend to Danielle. Marie is not very happy happy to be there but she has no choice. She needs physical therapy and make sure that she is getting the treatment she needs. However she does not like the place.

While Marie is in rehab her family have traveled to her home to make sure is okay. So they say. However an incident happen to Marie. While her family are arguing with Adam and being verbally abusive its up to Danielle to figure out what really happened. Lucky for Danielle she has some help from Walt, Eva, and Marie.

Can Danielle figure this mystery out before it is to late?

Again another great whodunit.
I'm a little sad about the loss of a great character in one way. Didn't figure it out until it was spelled out.

I realized I missed a book (which I'm reading now) when there were some details in this one that I didn't recognize as happening. They really are best read in order.

I love, love, love this series. They are great mysteries. They do involve ghosts but they aren't kitschy or tacky like some ghost stories are. The characters, including the ghosts, are so very real and well-drawn. I've become fond of all the main characters in the series. This one could have been sad but because of the nature of the books, the people who die are not always mourned by the reader. And true to life, some people are bad characters- like the lovely elderly Marie whose son is a real jerk.

As it frequently happens with this series, I was surprised at who the murderer was.

Okay, this one got me. I think the next one is the one I’ve been waiting for. I’m attached to all the characters and I’ve begrudgingly started to really love this series. It’s cozy (and bonus! It’s free).

By the 15th book in a murder mystery series, some of the familiar characters need to be killed off. It's a shame when it's one of your favorites. Marie's family comes to visit her in rehab after she falls and breaks her hip. When her son wants her to stay there permanently so he can dissolve her estate, Marie gets angry and threatens to change her will. Is that motive for murder? Adam struggles to deal with his family while they all verbally abuse him. Danielle proves to be a good friend to both Marie and Adam, while Walt and Eva join her to help. Trouble also brews on the horizon with Walt's cousin who is also his doppelgänger. Looking forward to the next book in the series, #16.

haha Oh my heck I just realized I must've forgotten to add this on my "currently reading" because I was trying to find it and yeah. Oh well. Good thing I had it on my Storygraph account and could see when I actually started it and fix it.

Anyway, I absolutely loved this one and actually sad to see Marie Nichols die *crying internally* but I did like this story with her death and they mystery behind it. I'm seriously loving this series with each book the further I'm going with them. Even though some books aren't exactly better than the one before, it's the main story I'm enjoying and love these characters so much that I'm surprised as long this series is I'm actually committing to them, but at the same time, the audios are 8-9 hours and I can turn the speed up high enough I get through them pretty quickly and usually in less than a week if I'm not too busy.

Reading this series is like binge-watching a favorite television show! In this "episode", Danielle's elderly friend Marie Nichols has broken her hip. Until the physical therapist gives her the okay to return home, she is stuck at Seaside Village and is NOT HAPPY about it. Her son Warren and his wife Chloe (who haven't been to see her in 5 years), and her youngest grandson Jason and his fiancee Sondra (who also have not been around) have all descended on Frederickport to check on their 91-year-old matriarch. But Marie is pretty sure it's NOT her health that they are concerned about. Warren is plotting to keep her in Seaside Village permanently, so that he can start the process of getting to Marie's assets! However, none of those relatives realize that Marie has put her eldest grandson Adam in control of everything she owns, and only he has the right to make any changes! Unfortunately, someone has designs to getting to their inheritance from Marie happen sooner than later.

Oh the book was sad, one of the favorite characters is bumped of, but have no fear they hang around in death. The twists and turns keep coming and the shocking reveal to the murderer was 👀👀👀. lol Marie was actually good and hints at things to come.

3.25 (Audible). There are a lot of bad people in this town. Given that Dani has only been in Marlowe house for a little over a year + this is book 15, I'd question continuing to live there.

Marie (91) breaks her hip and has to go to rehab in a dismal nursing home. Her son arrives with his family and Warren proceeds to get her as a permanent resident. His business is failing and he wants to get his hands on her estate. Meanwhile, someone smothers Marie. All sorts of suspects, mostly Marie's family.
Marie is now a spirit and is flitting around the town. Walt says she should pass over, but she is having too much fun and all her pains are gone.
Meanwhile the murderer, sedates Danielle and plans to kill her. The murder is the nurse Sunny. She became addicted to pain killers after an accident and is stealing the meds of the residents to feed her habit. The spirits and they human "seers" spring into action and save Danielle.
Adam gives his father $100K to save his business and Marie heads off with Adam to visit his brother.
Always fun.

Ok, soooooo I’ve been following this series along and love the storyline and main characters and super appreciate the fact she does not focus on people that may have not read the other books in order. BUT this ending made no sense in regards to the police chief. I mean seriously?.. there was more than enough evidence (pill tampering, autopsy showing murder) to justify a warrant and go look for her in the last place she was at..come on.,. This made the cops not only seem like idiots but wasn’t real life like at all and kinda seemed childish. Not impressed with this one as far as the ending.

WOW. I can honestly say I did not expect this book to start out the way it did; but I was hooked and could not put this one down until I was finished. I have liked Adam for a while and it was great seeing more about where he came from and why he acts the way he does. I originally wanted to see him and Danielle give it a try but I do prefer their brother/sister vibe and love their banter.

As always, I enjoy Walt and his antics, he really makes the book! Now, Walt wants to get an email account so that he can communicate with the outside world. I don't see how this could ever go poorly. Just imagine Walt getting his first chain mail and trying to figure out the 10 people he is going to forward it to ... that would be a conversation to sit in on!

I love this series and while sad this is one of my favorites so far!

Sad, in a way

Things have a way of drastically changing in Fredricksport. Almost anything I write could be a spoiler for other readers,so I don't want to make specific comments. It is interesting to see how the situation turned out in the end. It always mystifies me about how a nice parent can have such a despicable offspring. apparently it comes of spoilage. These characters seem so real and multidimensional and that it makes this series of books a joy to read. I'm trying to read slower because I have only one book left. And then, Bobbie Holmes, what do you expect me to do? Please get started on the next dozen.

Why did they have to kill off Marie? I liked her. It was obvious what was going on at the nursing home, but that didn’t diminish story by much. Adam’s collective family is a piece of work! The author obviously had fun giving free reign to avarice in family members. Made for an interesting read as many people had motives for murder. Also makes me like Adam even better realizing how far he’s come from his family. In this book, Walt’s doppelgänger rears his head. Story ends with foreshadowing of the next book.

I was so sad when Marie got killed off. But Marie as a ghost is a hoot. She is having such fun getting around without the pain and health issues of old age. I hope that she stays around for a long time. Between The Ghost Who Came for Christmas and this book, they are my favorites.

I was borrowing the books from the library but my library didn't have this one. I felt for Marie, it was worth buying the book on Amazon. Hopefully, I will have disposable cash in the future that I can buy more of these books.

The ghost and little Marie by Bobbi holmes

I always enjoy reading the books in this Haunting Danielle series and I've read every one so far. This book had the murder of a beloved character and a whole lot of humour if you can imagine those two statements together. Bobbi Holmes has a way of combining the two and making them fit. Certainly an excellent light read.

Love this series

This is one of many series that I read and one of a few I drop everything to read. This time Danielle's friend Marie dies and she claims to have been murdered. Marie's whole family invades Danielle and Walt for the funeral and reading of the will. Did one of them murder Marie for her money? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Wonderful!!!

I have read every book so far in this series and I seriously love them! They are truly well written, keep my interest, and my only complaint is that they end too soon. I urge anyone who wants to read thoroughly entertaining novels, that are light hearted, but combine mystery, supernatural, and laughter to treat themselves to this talented author!

Omg why!!! I absolutely loved Marie. Why did she have to kill her!! Sad she's dead, but I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy her being a ghost.

I feel like Danielle and Bryan might become a couple lol. They get along better now that she saved his life. Plus he's starting to believe that a ghost just might be in the house protecting Danielle. I would love to see this relationship happen.

Still loving series

After 15 books, I still love the main characters and the mystery is always well written. I like Adam and he goes through so much in this book. I never suspected the murderer to be who it was and I never get these right. Love it. Walt's new technology interest may end up being a bad thing. I plan to get the next to see what the Marlow cousin is up to.

This was one of her best and I couldn't put it down!
At first I was so mad at Marie's fate but as the story went on, although still disappointed with the loss, I could see the adventures abounding in the future. Marie is a hoot and I think she is going to bring a whole 'nutha level to "ghosting".
I really hope to see this as a television series one day - I would love to see who would play the roles and find out if they appear the way I see them in my minds eye.
Pure excellence!

Another Ghost

I really love this series, but the new added ghost I was sad to see. Enjoying the progression this series, I love Danielle and Walt, but Chris is a lovable character as well and would be good with Danielle, we'll see how this works out. This was a very close for Danielle. I highly recommend this series, the audio narration is a great addition. Excellent narrator.
