The Quiet Series #1

Quiet & Kilted

The first book in an incredible series!

Zoe Green does her best to blend into the background of the world around her. Naturally shy and bookish all her life, the loss of her hearing as a teenager has made her far more withdrawn as a woman.

Catching the eye of the kilt-wearing construction worker doing renovations in her library throws her into unfamiliar territory.

Nathaniel Lang takes one look at the pretty librarian and sees far more than she would ever expect. She believes her deafness limits her chance for happiness and he plans to show her how wrong she is. When Zoe finally agrees to have coffee with him, Nate knows it’s the start of something wonderful for him and his daughter Amanda.

Their future is tested when someone emerges from Nate's past but love isn’t going to let either one of them get away so easily.

The gentle first book in the four-book "Quiet" series. Another hot, emotional read by Always the Good Girl, Shayne McClendon.

The title Quiet & Kilted, lured me in, but this is a big let down. The h, who is ever so good and sweet, was in a tragic accident, left her deaf and her family grieves, they don't actually help. So she completes her degree, moves to live independently in another town, and meets the H. Oddly enough in another small town, the H's mother and sister are deaf so he can sign, unlike her family, who didn't bother to learn. But I found their relationship was a let down. It is all talk, a series of long winded conversations, and so many between H's daughter and the h. Then to add to the drama, his ex deliberately crashes into the h's car, and now she's blind! It's all too much she's small, sweet, bullied by her family, deaf, now blind and an evil ow is going to get her. Well actually for me the most important issue was what happened to the kilt? The title promised a kilt - where were the good times with the kilt? So disappointing!

This came off like a cheesy romance movie on cable. Unrealistic dialogue, sugar-coated love story and a non-redeemable "evil" person to add a little drama.

I liked Nate but he was just too perfect. He never had any doubts about Zoe and the way he "romanced" her gave me a toothache. His daughter Mandy was also way too perfect, especially for a pre-teen.

2/5 ⭐️
1.5/2 🌶

Tropes:
- small town
- single dad (of 12yr old girl)
- shy librarian
- deaf heroine
- he’s working construction at her library
- crazy ex wife/baby mama

POV: third person (dual)

Type: interconnected novella *has a HFN with plot cliffhanger*

For something quite short, this was unbearably long. Took me forever to get through less than 200pgs. All for the plot to end on a cliffhanger. I won’t be continuing the series

The writing was mediocre. Some parts were good while others I skimmed.
The hero was sugary sweet. Instant love.
It is a HFN.

A sweetly told love story about a girl (woman) who has always felt not quite worthy because of her deafness. This was a lovely romance (with a touch of danger throw in) about how Zoe fell in love and become the person she always really was. Nate was wonderfully hot single father that loved Zoe right from the start. A definite must read, I cant wait to read the rest of this series.

I love her writing style so much. Her characters often have baggage or differences of some sort. And I love that too.
Nate and Zoe were adorable. I love that these characters are connected to her other books. Zoe starts out in GA with Shay and Victor. I adore victor so even a passing reference made me grin.

A really lovely book, though there is a bit of a cliff hanger going on, there is a HFN ending.

Zoe is a girl who lost her father and younger sister in a terrible accident that also took her hearing at age 16. Her mother and older sister are not very supportive about her deafness and refuse to learn sign language. They do seem to love her, but seem to have real issues surrounding the loss of part of their family and dealing with Zoe’s deafness feels part of those issues.

To get away from a town that hasn’t been particularly supportive and family that don’t understand her, she moves to a small town near Boulder in Colorado. This is a state that allows deaf people to drive whereas her home state does not. Being able to drive gives her independence along with a job as a librarian, something she is qualified to do, but there were very few openings in the field.

Three years after her move Zoe meets Nate, the owner of the construction company doing some work on the library. He falls for her. The deafness is not off putting to him because both his mother and sister are deaf and he grew up using sign language as much as English to communicate. The only other sign language speaker in the small town turns out to be his daughter (which seems obvious) who has spent the last three years loving Zoe because she is patient, kind and interested in Mandy. She wants to see her favourite woman and her Dad together and helps them to make a connection. Mandy’s mother is not a good woman and has been largely absent from her life since a few months after her birth. This means Mandy feels a lack in her life that she wants Zoe to fill.

It really is a lovely story and the characters have depth and interest to them. I love how Zoe’s deafness is treated as matter of fact by Nate and Mandy but they understand that her life is made more difficult by her deafness, treating her with empathy but no pity.

The side characters are very interesting and I’m looking forward to reading more about them in future books.

This was a nice, quick read about love simply being easy when you find the right person. Zoe is deaf because of an accident when she was 16 and has decided she needs a fresh start, far away from the small town and smaller minds she’s been surrounded by her entire life. She moves to a new town and tries to blend in, so as to avoid notice by anyone. Luckily for her, that tactic doesn’t work once Nate and his daughter, Mandy, both get to know her. I really like the sweetness of Zoe and her interactions with Mandy and Nate, as well as how easily the town accepts the change in Zoe once she bans some confidence in herself. Zoe and Nate prove that love can prevail through anything, as long as the love and support of family or friends is there for a person.

This book has an abrupt ending and we don’t get the closure expected with Nate’s ex, which is what kept me from giving this book a 5⭐️ review. I’ll still read the next book to find out what happens, but I’m not a huge fan of cliffhangers...nail-biting ones or otherwise.

First book in the Quiet Series
. After loosing her hearing from a car accident when she was 16 years old,
Zoe is learning to live in silence. The same accident also took the lives of her father and younger sister. Zoe's mom and older sister, love Zoe, but refuses to except Zoe's deafness and to learn how to communicate with her. So Zoe decides to leave town and accepts a job as librarian. She is excited but scared about the prospect of living alone.

While the library is getting some must needed renovations, she meets a kilt wearing construction worker, Nate.
Nate is a single father of a young girl named Mandy, who has a heart of gold.
As Nate and Zoe become friends, Zoe comes out of her shell. They realize that what they have is more than friendship. As love blossoms, Nate's crazy ex wife returns and want Nate and Mandy all to herself.

Beautiful, moving and one hell of a ride

The perfect introduction to a brand new series and the lovely world that Shayne has meticulously crafted over the years. I adore the insights I got to the many characters and figured out many easter eggs, having a heck of a time connecting the dots. I do adore reading about badass heroines who don't let their lack of hearing stop them from wrecking hell but I do wonder about having a male lead like that. The epilogue was brilliant and evil, leaving me wanting for more. Let's just say I finished the entire series within a span of 3 days. I'm amazed by Shayne's gift with words and her ability to always move me to tears. Dive in. You won't regret it!

OMFG!! WHAT DID I JUST FINISHED!! Quiet & Kilted by Shayne McClendon has BLEW ME AWAY and She is a New Author for me!! The story of Zoe Green had me at the Very Beginning of the Book and never let me Go!!
What a perfect introduction of the heroine's who will Not let their lack of Hearing stop them from accomplishing their missions in life. And allow them to find Love and Happiness in a World where they are Not fully human in the society World.
Zoe Green at 16yrs old loss her hearing in a tragic car accident and since then had to learn to communicate in other means. Meanwhile her Mother and Sister refuse to cope with her deafness. After accomplishing school and college, now a woman wants to find happiness elsewhere and live how she wants instead under a rock. So moving from Georgia to Colorado seem like a good start as an librarian to start Fresh.
Enter in Nate Long, a construction worker who is upgrading the library where Zoe works and is captivated by her. Little does Zoe know that Nate can communicate with her through sign language since his mother & sister are deaf as well.
Then throw in Amanda aka Mandy- Nate's 12yrs old daughter which they instantly connect.
QUIET & KILTED is So Different and Uniquely Written plus such an Suspenseful Epic story that will Leave you Speechless and wanna throw your tablet across the room!! Fair Warning, it will Leave you hanging and wanna know what was going to happen Next!!

There were definitely bits and pieces to enjoy in this book but overall it left something to be desired.

The main characters never actually spent any alone time together. As a single parent myself I understand that’s hard to come by. But it also made their love story seem far fetched. I mean the 12 year old was asking the question that Nate should have been asking. These are like get to know you questions that the daughter is asking. It was just weird.

Speaking of the 12 year old. She spoke more like a 16-17 year old. I actually thought I read the age wrong. Even someone with advanced intelligence wouldn’t speak like that at 12. It was just really unbelievable. When I read I don’t necessarily want believability but there are some aspects, like this one, that can’t be stretched.

A sweet romance.
I really enjoyed this book.
It was interesting to read a book with a main character that is deaf. I found it super easy to get hooked into and loved the characters.
Zoe wasn’t always deaf but when tragedy struck, it left her that way. She is a strong woman and decided after what was left of her family, weren’t there to support her, it was time to move on with her life.
This book follows Zoe as she moves out on her own in the world and faces her fears. She meets a wonderful man and his daughter. The story has some awesome twists and turns. I can’t wait to read book 2

So for the first half of the book I was thinking this would be a 3 or 3.5 star book for me - it was sweet but perhaps not memorable. But the second half took a sharp downturn in my opinion. It became overly cheesy and the writing started to get on my nerves. Not to mention the way the hero's 12 year daughter acted was not at all realistic - she spoke and acted like an older teen and not a preteen. There was also a weird, from out of nowhere villain arc thrown in that ultimately had no impact on our MCs - all it did I suppose was move their relationship to an even more frenetic pace than it had started. Sigh.

Will leave u stumped and wondering

This is book one if a 4 part series. This series isn't tied to but gives u brief interludes to other books by Shayne. This is a series about the Langs. Delve into their world and see why so many people are falling in love with all the characters. Each boom has it's own story to tell from Nate Caroline Zoe Amanda and Noel' s side. You won't wish to put any if the books down and will want more after u read the 4 books lol Excellent revamp on the original series from years before. Shayne truly did a spectacular job!!!

Awesome read!!! Zoe is deaf since the accident and her family didn’t learn how to talk to her. Her friend had talk her into leaving and starting over somewhere new. She left to move and started her new life as a librarian. She was so happy. She got a cat and was friendly to all the local people. She became friends with a really smart girl named Mandy and found out her dad is helping make Zoe’s image a reality in the library. It’s a sweet story. The three of them have a cute life till the Wx shows up and causes problems for them.

What a great, emotional start to a series!! Shayne McClendon is a word magician who keeps you completely invested in her books from start to finish. You will not want to put this book down once you start reading it. This story is about Zoe, who tragically lost her hearing in a terrible accident, who is a total bada$$ who doesn't let her life get her down. She meets Nate, a sexy construction foreman, who was raised by a mother who is deaf. Their story is emotional and you will love every word of it!!

This was a nice book, I was a bit confused as to how well the characters communicated, being as how they did so through lip-reading and sign language. But I'm not too familiar with either of those so perhaps it's easier than I imagine. The couple were cute and sweet together and the daughter was cute and funny. A whole lot of cuteness going on. And then there was the drama with the Hero's ex. It was well done and I'm glad they handled it easily and quickly. 4 stars

What a great start to a new series, this is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed the style of writing. I adored Zoe, despite her past she is so caring and thoughtful, her relationship with Nate was beautiful to watch, but her connection with Mandy was just as special. Nate was a great alpha he was delicate but forceful with Zoe, they brought the best out of each other. This was a quick read with depth of feeling and some drama, definitely worth a read.

This is book 1 in the Quiet series. This first book takes us on Zoe and Nates journey. Zoe is a librarian in a small town and she loves it. Nate is a construction worker that is working in the library and first meets Zoe when a person grabs her to get her attention. Zoe is deaf and never heard him. Nate knew from the first day he wanted to get to know Zoe better. Her being deaf isn't a big deal since he was raised by a deaf mom and sister. This book is really good.

I loved this story from the beginning. Zoe was a great main character and even though her story was sad with the lost of her dad and sister. She was strong and learned to live on and moving away was the best decision she made for she had a job that she loved and met Nate and Mandy. This book was sad and funny and just had me falling in love with all the characters. There was no dull moments in this book and it was well written and I just really loved the way the author wrote this book.

This story wasn't what I expected, but I really enjoyed it. It was a sweet and family-based, with a twist. I loved that Zoe and Mandy had a connection before Zoe met Mandy's dad, Nate. I could relate somewhat to Zoe's character. I loved that Nate and Mandy were able to not only relate to Zoe, but we're able to bring her out of her shell. I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series entails.

Keeps those pages turning

This captures your attention and takes you through to the end. So entertaining. It sad that deaf are treated in such a way by some and made to feel bad. This books gave love and hope to a deaf girl but she gave much more love back. Beautiful thing. Loved bada$$ Noel!

What a beautifully written story! This lovely romance with an overarching suspenseful plot thread is unique and I found the characters really remarkable. The author has created a slightly different heroine to the kind we are used to in the romance genre, and as a result the story really resonates. A wonderful read, and I can't wait to start the next in the series.

What a beautifully written story... heart wrenching, tear jerking, sweet, love story like no other. I loved this book from page one and cannot wait to read the next ones...this a new author for me but a definite new favorite. I've never read a book with a deaf character and didn't know how it would read but this author did it exceptionally well.

I wasn't sure about this book when I started, it begins a bit slow, but am I glad I stuck with it. Zack and Zoe are a compelling couple, well written, interesting, and with great chemistry. Their story moved quickly, had some twists, and surprises. Zack is surround by strong women including his daughter Mandy. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series. Great Read!!!

Quiet and Kilted: Nate and Zoe

So much more than I expected. Loved the dimensional characters, the supporting cast, and the exquisite buildup of sexual tension. A tiny bit disappointed about the "to be continued," though this book does end with the leads in a happy relationship together.
