Alexandria Bishop's sophmore effort is fantastic! I had every interntion of reading a few pages and going to sleep tonight, but it didn't happen because I just couldn't put this one down. I am trying to put words together in a coherent way and not fan girl gushing. I read the first book a few month's ago, and I will admit I didn't really connect with it. I don't have an explanation for that, I suppose it could be the head space I was in, but I honestly think her writing vastly improved between these two (and I can't wait for the third!) In Falling for Hudson, all of the characters seem much more mature. {{{Slight spoiler warning for Finding Flynn, but you probably aren't going to read the second book in a series, without reading the first, right?? Shame on you, read in order so things make sense!! :-)}}}
Dealing (or not dealing as the case may be) with the fallout of the accident and death of Chloe's parents may have had a big part to play in the change from very high school-ish attitudes to relatable people regardless of age. Chloe is a hot mess through much of this book, but you really can't blame her. As a testament to Ms. Bishop's writing skill, you understand exactly why she is a hot mess, and a few sympathetic tears popped up for her from time to time (and I so am not a book crier.) She has a heck of a lot to deal with at too young of an age....not to mention, I realize I've read quite a few books in the meantime, but why is this Falling gor Hudson? I would have sworn she was after his brother Jax? That, to me, was perhaps the most poignant part of this book (And I truly cannot wait for Jax's book. I am curious about Jude, but Jax is my Trey for this series. If you don't get that reference, I will explain before the review is done.) I can honestly say I was on the rollercoaster of neverending emotions with Chloe throughout the book, and her deep connection with Jax made me smile, even if they confused me as much as themselves at times. Awkward sentence, but good sentiment, trust me.
Okay, to stop my rambling, I will wrap this up after one more note. There really needs to be a sixth star option when a book pulls of an insider surprise that makes the reader laugh with glee and continue grinning like an idiot long after thatbsection of the book has been read (and perhaps again when that reader is writing a review.) Hmmm, how do I put this without spoiling anything.....Ms. Bishop pulls off the most awesome tribute to the fantastic Olivia Cunning somewhere in this book, and it absolutely rocks. If you are a fan of rockstar romance and have not read Ms. Cunning's Sinners series, do not pass go, search that little box at the top for Backstage Pass and start one-clicking. Not only will it push Falling for Hudson over the top for you, I am quite sure Ms. Bishop will agree with me in saying they are must reads.
So 5 Electrified Guitars for Falling for Hudson - electrified because it is for mature readers of the 18+ variety only for explicit sex scenes. Pick up Finding Flynn, and even if you don't fall head over heels, give this one a chance. I am definitely thrilled that I did.
