The Real Christ

Rate this book
The Real Christ is simply the E=MC of theology, unfolding the deepest mysteries of the Trinity with profound clarity. This is a must read book for anyone who has struggled with remaining a Christian or grown frustrated with the banality of what seems to be the “Jesus Industry” of corporate Christianity. Please prayerfully and slowly read The Real Christ. It is full of some of the most liberating and transforming ideas currently available to humankind. It is what Christianity was meant to be and, quite truthfully, must still become. We are urged to take up and read, and consider again the complete superstructure that is Christianity so to really discover and really become Christ.

This was sometimes a bit of a painful slog to get through, but it was worth persisting with. It's full of interesting ideas and a clear vision of Christian spirituality, doing away with so much nonsense and finding a core that can offer as much as Eastern systems. I did sometimes find the rigid taxonomy and ease with which Roberts declares things "impossible" or "fallacies" irritating, who could possibly know? And for someone doing away with so much scriptural nonsense, the things she keeps are strange (just 10,000 years of humanity, for example). Still, this was ultimately a very interesting read with lots to chew on. If this was the vision that most people were taught then I imagine Christianity would be viewed very differently. Unfortunately it isn't, and the vast majority genuinely believe the various ideas Roberts spends her time deconstructing.

I imagine many traditional Christians might be turned off by this book. Strangely, I think more non-sectarian Christians or even non-Christians will appreciate this. If you are looking for an alternative perspective on Christ and Christianity, then this is for you.

This book will blow your mind. The authors challenges everything you were taught about Jesus and his ministry. The book discusses who Jesus is and how can we take his message and apply it today.

Wow. Thank you Bernadette Roberts.

I don’t know what to say. I have no words. She explains Jesus, Christ, the Eucharist, and the Trinity better than anyone I’ve read. She should be a Saint.

I read part of a prepublication copy that I bought at one of her retreats. This is a good book for people interested in how Christianity got off track. Nice history; it goes into how replacing certain words with others has lead to the church being polytheistic. Her presentation of what the trinity really means is very thought provoking. Sensible, logical, matter of fact presentation.
