Could be been so much better...
Who doesn't love a good cowboy story? That's what I was hoping for when I started reading this book, but straight away, I knew I'd have difficulty. Let me just say, I don't like giving low ratings for an authors hard work, but sometimes it has to be done.
The beginning is littered with mistakes (the little boys name is replaced with the father's at one point - both begin with C), the POV frequently changes throughout (sometimes switching in the middle of one, for a sentence), and the fierce battle for the job doesn't exist - it's a tame battle that lasts a couple of chapters. These were mainly personal annoyances and I persevered past them to finish the book. A book with a fantastic concept let down by what comes across as an early draft, rather than completed. If you take the skeleton of the story; its about a girl who goes to a ranch for a job and falls for her boss, who in turn gets an immediate hard on for her. The danger she's running from isn't an issue, the battle for the job hardly exists, and most of the good stuff is rushed over. The last few chapters are its saving grace and where the most happens.
All the reasons I downloaded this read were missing other than the cowboy.
I understand lots of people enjoyed reading this, and I did to an extent, but I was disappointed. The stars are for the concept and what could have been.
