Vines is a simple, precise, artsy, and lyrical way of looking at everyday life through up-to-date poetry. In these poems, the framework of the complexities of every day life, reduced to simple precise artistic instruments, conveys a unique style or quality of view by the Author. The style is engaging, unique, and definitely worth a read! It feels as if you're part of the present. Take a minute and engage yourself in Vines.
Vines is an easy to relate to and interesting array of poems. Situated well both within the busy streets and trainlines of New York, and the calmer, more serene pavements of Central Park, Vines not only looks at the external, but also looks at Ram Suresh’s personal life. The personal and the setting intertwine to create some beautiful poetry.
The framing of the poems is also admirable. Simplistically styled yet speaking volumes, the form of short, interesting sentences takes over. The modern influences are clear not only in the subject matter of the poetry, but also in the wording. The bustle of a morning commute translates brilliantly onto paper in “The Commute”, but the language used delivers the view of an individual trapped within a crowd without delving into the over-complicated.
It could, however, be more polished in certain places. For example, there appears to be a typo in “Timeless”. This would be easier to overlook if it wasn’t the final poem in the collection, and therefore the poem that the reader leaves on. Another couple of proofreads would have fixed this. If it were in another place the typo could have been effective and appear to be flair and technique, however as it is in the repeated phrase: “The Ocean is murmuring, and I am thinking” the repetition loses something in its effectiveness.
Overall this is a great collection of poetry that puts you in the mindset of an observer, walking through the busy New York streets or cramped in on its trains or taking a reflective moment at an ocean or in Central Park. The situation of each poem is well thought out, contrasting the busier poems with the calmer, more reflective ones beautifully. Ram Suresh has created something to be proud of. Never compromising his style for complication or lines or stanzas that are too busy.
When I look for a new poetry book, I like to have something that's fresh and this was what I got with Vines. The book is described as contemporary poetry and this is evident from its stunning cityscape style cover. A poetry book is always something that you can dip in and out of, and each time you'll discover something new, depending on your mood. Vines has a little bit of something for everyone living in this modern world. I loved the commute, because it described my journey to work as well. However, my favourite poem was broken. Broken is about loss and how grief feels, and for me this was incredibly poignant. This is very insightful exploration of the world around us, but it is described through the beauty of poetry.
I think I've found my favourite poetry book, ever.
Vines is a delightful, but rather short poem collection that offers a nice thought about city life and we can establish a connection with our inner life. Ram Suresh offers an array of short poems focusing on different city aspects but also centered around our own feelings and expectations. It’s amazing what the author was able to deliver in such a short book. The beauty of poetry is that (most of the times) you can read a poem here and there, in the time you have left, and still doesn’t miss on the beauty of it. It’s an interesting take on ordinary events, written in a delicate way that will resonate with most readers. A really nice work here on display. I already have another book by the same author and it certainly made my interest rise to start reading it.
“I watch now from on the crowded train platform, him wondering what this self-imposed life sentence is.” This short book of poetry will cause you to lose yourself, even if it is just for the moment. The above quote was one of my favourite in the book because I can relate to it on many levels. If poetry does not capture your heart, if it can not move or alter your emotions, in my opinion, it is not poetry. This author touched my soul several times throughout the book; I felt as if I was taking a journey through the many corridors of his mind.
The purchase of Vines Contemporary Poetry stems from an earlier acquaintance with the author. Possibly, continuing from the earlier publishing, Vines contemporary poetry extends Suresh’s outlook through a set of additional poems. Suresh celebrates another perspective to viewing day-to-day events. Interesting, intriguing literary content which builds up on each other. Would look forward to Suresh’s additional publishing, hoping he would provide more depth to each poem.
Up until recently I never really appreciated the work and thoughtfulness that goes into poetry. Deciding to educate myself more I stumble across Vines, and I have to say, I’m glad I did. What a refreshing collection it is. Inspired by everyday events, this short collection of poems really puts things into perspective. A brilliant book for those new to the poetry world.
Brilliantly written! Lovely poems full of so much meaning! I simply love each one! I love the humor in some of the poems and the heartwarming feelings in the others! Brought me back to my own childhood in a positive way. Thanks again Ram!!
