It takes a million moving parts to send a starship across the galaxy, but only one mistake to bring it crashing down. Almost five years have passed since The Pharaon left Earth's orbit, bound for a distant planet, and Technical Bridge Assistant Nathan Joffe yearns for some excitement. So when an unusual incident occurs, he rises to the challenge. But while he occupies himself, events are taking a sinister turn. The ship is in trouble, plagued by a string of system failures, and Captain Coverack is determined to discover the cause. But nothing can prepare him for the truth he's about to uncover. Skeleton Crew is science fiction with oil ingrained in its palms and grit under its fingernails. So get ready to step aboard The Pharaon, and strap yourselves in—it's going to be a bumpy ride. NB: Although Skeleton Crew is a prequel to the Colony B series, it can be read as a complete story in its own right. Colony B Reading Order: Skeleton Crew Wall Trail Control Rift

This short prequel to Campling's Colony B series is well done as have been all of Mr. Campling's books which I've read. An exciting and suspenseful tale with a building sense of foreboding, it details how Colony B was stranded on a strange planet of danger. My only quibble is that the story did not make it clear why the ship was equipped with a gas collector array which deliberately brought gas from space aboard the ship. These are events which occurred prior to THE WALL, volume 1 in the colony B series. SKELETON CREW is free from Amazon. THE WALL is available through Kindle Unlimited.
not kindle unlimited, this was one of my here's a free book, would be nice if you reviewed it but no strings attached, see goodreads for full listing of books on my reviews

Intriging Sci-Fi short story of The Pharaon, a ship full of colonists, five years into their journey to a resettlement planet. The trip has gone well. The officers suffer the normal maladies of long-term travel, but other than the Captain, have access to the sleep pods on a regular basis.
However after something foreign finds its way into the ship, systems begin to fail, one by one. The crew work to fix problems as the Captain searches for the sabatage! Can their efforts prevail? Will The Pharaon be saved? The fate of families hang in the balance.
Pick up this fast paced, exciting prequel to the Colony B series by Michael Campling. The writing is excellent. The story is great, well worth the time as a stand alone adventure, or a prelude or follow up to the other Colony B books.
Skeleton Crew is a short prequel to the Colony B serialised sci-fi series from Michael Campling. Its explanation of how The Pharaon’s crew and passengers crashlanded on the Hill top, where the colony subsequently carve out their new existence, make this a great addition to the overall series. It fills in some of the details that were left out of the other books, expanding the readers understanding of events leading to up those in book 1, The Wall.
Nice! I'm glad to find out what happened to strand Colony B on the wrong planet - I've wondered about it since I started reading the series. This short story can be read alone, but the fate of the characters unfolds in Wall, the first Colony B book. Note that this story doesn't contain any spoilers for the series, so it can be read first. I can recommend both this book and the rest of the series. Fun to read!
Skeleton Crew is a prequel to the Colony B series. This can be read as a standalone, but it is clear that this is just the beginning of their story and the series. It was an interesting start to Colony B and shows us how they ended up on the planet. This snipet was enough to get me interested in reading the series.
You can smell the fear, see the glistening sweat and the glow of the mysterious green substance, feel the tremors of the ship and crew. I didn't realize this prequel exist! I highly recommend reading this before starting the series.
