When the person you’ve longed for your whole life suddenly sleeps by your side, how much are you willing to fight to keep that?

Jenny has a bad marriage and a long stretch of mostly nothing behind her. She’s rebuilt her life and likes what she has, but she’s lonely. Then she’s thrown into the arms of the only man she ever really wanted, and Jenny decides that this time, there’s nothing she won’t do to keep him.

Paddy has a grown daughter and a long string of ladies behind him. He has forced himself to accept that the one thing he ever really wanted wasn’t ever going to be his. Then the president of a local MC declares his interest in Jenny, and Paddy loses his ever-loving mind. Seeing her start something serious with another man one more time is not going to happen so this time, he’ll fight for what he wants.

Then Paddy gets a phone call no father wants to receive, a newly formed drug-cartel starts moving in, and the only way for them both to get through it all is by staying strong, and together.

Please note: This book contains crude words and somewhat explicit adult scenes. If this isn't your thing, then this book might not be for you.

Reread

This reminded me of Games of the Heart by KA where the original romance sucked but the secondary romance was fantastic. Unfortunately here we don't get enough of the secondary romance to save this book for me. My original rants about Paddy and Jenny stands, their story was so ridiculous it wasn't funny, she basically had no friends because he'd slept with the majority and the others wanted to sleep with him and since she was in love with him she avoided the friendships so she wouldn't get any intimate details. Their romance sucked!

Spoilers ahead, 2.5* (could've been 4 dammit! Ranty stuff ahead 😂)

Paddy and Jenny have been in each other's lives for years, as the sister of one of his "Brothers" Jenny and Paddy have formed their own close friendship. When he goes to a meet at an MC he finds out that Jenny has been partying with the club and had sex with a few of the members, thinking the club's President wants to claim her Paddy immediately stakes his claim on Jenny. Informing Jenny of his actions could prove a little tricky but surprisingly enough she agrees to go along with his plan. But faking a relationship leads to long held feelings being revealed showing them that maybe true love had been right under their noses all along. But even all these years later the road to their hea proves to be a bumpy one when Paddy's daughter arrives in trouble, a gang is breathing down the neck of the Brothers allies and Jenny's ex refuses to let the past stay buried

**********
Ok whew *deep breath*

It's clear this author draws inspiration from KA, while the writing style is different certain elements of the plot and actions of the mcs are very familiar but one thing that KA does that I'd really hope this author LEAVES alone is MISCOMMUNICATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Listen these people have been in love with each other for years and nobody said anything!!!! For fucks sake!!! Nothing grinds my bones like time wasted, I mean he noticed her at 16 and she's 50 now!!!!!!!what the hellllllllll??? And his excuses were so lame I wanted to smack.him upside the head! Then Paddy said..... *deep breath* y'all he hit me with a Keaton speech!!!!!!!!!!!! Now by now my GR buddies know how I feel about Breathe by KA and Chase Keaton so for Paddy to say that he didn't approach her about getting together because she was young and he thought he had time and he wasn't ready to settle down caused me to twitch..... That was a little too close to Keaton telling Faye he was "getting the wild out to give her the sweet" I swear my palms started sweating and my heart started racing.......unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!
Now dear Jenny wasn't much better honesty because she wanted him too and never thought too mention it but I didn't blame her...... He was a KNOWN MANWHORE!!!!!! Who slept with some of her friends and many others that she heard about!!!! Then one of is women got pregnant so he stayed with her without sex for years and after they separated he went back to his manwhoring while Jenny was married and divorced and still NO-ONE communicated that maybe they'd like to try being together....... now they want to talk about "I love you, I've always loved you" and "it's Always been you" fuck both y'all!!!! I hope your boobs sag to.your knees Jenny and your penis stays flaccid Paddy!!!!! Imbeciles!!!!!

The thing is aside from the shit storm that was the romance between the mcs the book was good, well written, good pacing, interesting plot and a side romance too! The fact that Jenny wasn't celibate, the bromance between the guys and the secondary romance of Cal (Gideon's son) and Annie(Paddy's daughter) saved this book (and my kindle) for me. I focused on those positives rather than the idiotic mcs and found myself enjoying this book.

All in all this. would've been a lot better without the mcs messy as hell history

No cheating

H was a HUGE MANWHORE
h was married, divorced and later had a few hookups
h is kidnapped and beaten

Similar to the first, and has alot of the same issues. I like the older heroes and heroines, because it’s not a demographic served often in romance, and it’s a shame. I like the dynamic between the friends, and the best scenes are usually featuring those close relationships. It allows the readers to relate to them as more than potential romantic heroes and heroines, but people.

Unfortunately, there’s alot of telling vs. showing, especially some critical scenes that could have elevated the story and really given some emotional depth to confessions of things that had happened in the past. Also, there is not a single ex who isn’t worthless trash and it’s depressing to think of these men and women never having a decent relationship that simply fell apart (as it does), as opposed to tying themselves to the worst people ever. They don’t have to be evil, just not right for the hero/heroine. It was caricature and added nothing to the story.

Yes, there’s still that Colorado Mountain series vibe and alot of potential that doesn’t quite live up to the blurb. I struggled with boredom in the last half until a rather dramatic (though not completely unexpected) bump in the road. I didn’t hate it, just didn’t particularly love it either.

If you’re jonesing for the KA vibe, perhaps you’ll enjoy it more than I did, but I’ll probably pass and/or not rush out for the next book.

Sometimes loves takes the long way around…for Paddy and Jenny, it took over thirty years, one child and one bad marriage for them to FINALLY open up and take a chance on what they had always secretly wanted!

If you mistakenly think the simmer and smolder of romance is reserved for the under thirty crowd, let me tell you, the flames only grow hotter and the experience only fuels those flames into a raging inferno! No insecurities of youth, the wisdom of life and yes, even jealousy is at least as powerful, if not more so in mature romance!

When disaster strikes and Paddy’s grown daughter is in danger, only the longstanding friendship Jenny and Paddy share can keep everyone strong. Strong alpha males, women who know what they want and who they are, once again, Mia Malone has nailed the heat, the passion and the loyalties of lifelong friends when danger comes to one of their own.

PADRAIG is raw passion in words. These two are perfect together, perhaps because of their pasts, but geez, why did they wait so long?

I received a complimentary copy from Mia Malone!

Refer back to my review of the first book in the series https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Padraig picks up with the story of Padraig and Jenny, childhood friends and secretly in love forever. There's an ongoing update about all of the characters that were introduced in book 1. The strong KA theme and details from the book Sweet Dreams continue, especially with the abduction of Jenny.
Again, I think this author has great potential and has the ability to weave a good story but needs to find her own unique voice.
While I still love the concept of the older (50's) characters, at times they acted like 20 something year olds, not the mature people they were supposed to be.
If you are not a KA addict and you're looking for a very sweet, mellow but dramatic romance, you'll enjoy this book.

Best to read series in order to avoid spoilers as couple 1 appear in this book.
This book is best friends little sister troupe.
He started seeing her differently at around 16, knew she was too young and when they got older life got complicated and they never got together.
He has a daughter, never married.
She is divorced.
Older Hero and heroine, he is 55.

He has a reputation of being a man-whore according to the heroine but things are not quite as they seem though he has at times slept around.

It was refreshing that they both admit to liking sex and they both have attended the local MC parties and hooked with other people rather than it just being the Hero who is allowed to do that.

Once they are together no cheating.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
The Hero explains some details concerning his daughter and her mother but nothing romantic
There is small other man drama but no flirting or encouraging.

A secondary story takes place regarding his daughter.

Some funny banter and close knit friend group.

There are some serious issues dealt with both physical abuse and rape, no details, off page but retold memories.

HEA in form of HFN, I'm sure this couple will reappear in other couples stories.

Umm not really impressed with Paddy and Jenny they wasted so many years like we are talking of more than 20 years of wasted time just because they are afraid to voice out their feelings..
The romance between Callum and Annie saved the book for me because of that I am giving this 3 stars.. I love how alpha Callum is and they are cute together.. The bonding between the Brothers is also fascinating and lovely to read.
This series feels like shorter version of KA's books they have the same formula
- heroine in trouble
- force to live with the hero
- little badass drama
- a lot of Babe! Calling in this case for Padraig a lot of Baby (because he is a manwhore and don't want to mistake the ladies name)
Will continue to read the series and can't wait to meet Joke

Jenny and Padraig were starcrossed friends of long standing. Initially she was too young and he was not ready for a serious relationship, then they were each otherwise involved. He’s had his eye on Jenny since she was sixteen to his twenty.

Paddy has a grown daughter and a long string of conquests, resigned that Jenny will never be his, until the president of a local MC, Doug declares his interest in Jenny, Paddy’s knee-jerk reaction is declaring that they’re a couple.

Annie, Paddy’s daughter rings her father desperate for protection after being assaulted by a delusional madman at which point it is revealed that Gibson’s son Callum and Annie have been secretly involved and Jenny’s abusive marriage is uncovered.

Each main character thus far seems to have been ensnared into premature parenthood or coupledom. If men are that gullible...the odds of unplanned parenthood is high. This one tampered with all the condoms to force a pregnancy on the H. The exes were sadly lacking in redeeming qualities.

There were few light moments dissecting Gibson’s bedroom prowess...apparently he has the stamina of the energiser bunny.

He’s fifty-five to her fifty. Marybeth, his daughter, Annie’s mother lived under his roof for ten years, during that time, from the day she unpacked until a week after she exited, he remained celibate. . . he was celibate even after discovering Marybeth deliberately trapped him into early fatherhood.

He met Marybeth in a bar, they went to her place, and…….”
“Her place.”
“Her condoms.”
“Condoms she’d stuck a needle through. Multiple times.”
He found several other packets she’d tampered with.
He'd met Marybeth, and her friends before, and–”
He stopped talking abruptly and looked uncomfortable.
“You slept with one of her friends.”
He made a face.
“More than one of them?”
He sighed.
“Paddy, really? All of them?”

Everyone disliked Marybeth because of who she was to Paddy but even more because she was such an intensely dislikeable woman. Joke had asked Jenny several times if she’d thought Paddy had gone insane, and when Gibson came home for a visit, he tried to talk to Paddy about it. Their talk ended in a fight, and it had taken weeks for the bruises to fade. And Paddy had stayed with Marybeth.
She’d not been a good mother. She'd done the bare minimum of what was expected and not one thing extra.

Realising Jenny’s nightmare during her ten years of her marriage, Gibson and Paddy share a light moment at Callum’s expense:
“Your son is a good man, Gib.”
“He used to sh*t his pants.”
“What?”
“He loved riding.”
“I know.”
“Loved it so much he wouldn’t tell me he needed to stop and take a sh*t. So, he did it in his pants.”
“On a horse?” Paddy asked. “Man, that’s gross.”
“F… yeah,” Gib said emphatically. “Always had gallons of water and a change of clothes in the car.”
“He was what? Four? Bet he doesn’t do it anymore,” Paddy murmured.
“Yeah, but it's weird hearing him saying he's someone's man when he's still that boy with sh*t halfway up his back to me,” Gibson said quietly.
Paddy grinned, recognizing the feeling. Annie was someone’s woman, but she was still his little girl.”

“Annie vowed to kill Martin, and I informed her that her dad had called dibs, after which Joke would do his bit and then apparently Gibson would urinate on the corpse. She stopped crying and stared at me. Lee calmly shared that after Gibson had relieved himself, she would pour gasoline on my ex-husbands remains but if Annie felt up to it, she could toss a match on the sorry pile of sh*t. Annie swallowed, Lee smiled sweetly, and I started laughing. Then Joke put three shot glasses in front of us with a wink, Mac and Day joined us, and after that our evening changed into something which ended with drunk-sex.”

You can live a life dwelling on regrets or enjoy the life of here and now.

Perhaps he should have made a move all those years ago. Perhaps she should have. Perhaps the time hadn’t been right back then, but it was now.

Rape, Domestic abuse, Assault, Kidnapping...elements for drama.

Loved this book. Older couple, strong strong woman. Great story. Only thing that would be better is if this author had a huge back log of already written books. I can’t wait for the next about Joke but for some reason I really want to read Mac’s story.

‘Padraig‘ is the second title in ‘The Brothers‘ series, and it is a sizzling sexy, emotion engaging, action-packed ride from beginning to the final page… and then you’ll wish for just a touch more. While I had read the complete series, when this series came up in a Facebook group discussion I realized that I hadn’t reviewed all of the titles back then – so, I fit weekend re-reads into my schedule recently, and yes, the stories are just as intense, sexy, and engaging as when I first read them. Perhaps a touch more now since I have a bit of background and can “see” those little details I might have missed before.

Paddy and Jenny have known each other most of their lives – and loved each other from afar as well. Back then Paddy saw an age difference as the reason to not pursue Jenny believing he had time. Unfortunately, he didn’t cut back on his time with the ladies, and one woman made sure that Paddy would be hers by sabotaging the condoms resulting in Paddy’s daughter, Annie. He stayed in the marriage for his daughter’s sake, a sexless, angry marriage that finally ended when Annie was old enough and he kicked the now ex-wife to the curb. But the damage to what might have been for Jenny and Paddy had been done. Jenny quickly married someone else – and that was a mistake she would pay for over the years.

I understood both Paddy’s and Jenny’s reasons, even if I always felt that if they’d only talked about their feelings for each other back in their youth then all of this could have been avoided. But book characters rarely listen to me, I try but they have a mind of their own.

Today both Jenny and Paddy are free to pursue whatever they desire. For Paddy, that’s Jenny but let’s be frank, he’s still afraid that she won’t want him. Jenny is convinced that Paddy is nothing more than a manwhore and she’s not falling for that. She might admit, when drunk enough, that she still has feelings for the jerk but admit that – not happening. Right up until Paddy has claimed her to another MC president and he has to get Jenny onboard with that fake relationship fast. Perfect chance for them each, if it all works the right way.

There is a real danger here, as well as hot, sexy, sizzling chemistry. We get to know the other friends of Paddy and Gib a bit better, and they truly are a tight-knit group of men who are now finding their own happiness with the right woman. Callum (Gib’s son) and Annie (Paddy’s daughter) are a secondary romance in this story – and I loved every moment of that romance.

I enjoyed ‘Padraig‘ exactly as it was presented to me. It’s action-packed, totally alpha men, and strong women finding love in their 50’s… and sex doesn’t stop at some magical number. There are tense interactions, times filled with sexy moments, lots of laughter, bonding between friends, and a sense of destiny as two people who were always meant for each other finally get that desire fulfilled. I enjoyed myself immensely back in this world once again, and would not hesitate to recommend this story or series.

As the author did, I’m also going to say again that there is a touch of kink, a lot of sexy times, and some intense situations in this story (series) so if that is not your thing just be aware.

I own a Kindle edition of this title.

3.5 Stars!!! This one was slightly better than book 1. It still had some of the similar issues with grammar, using the wrong words in sentences and switching from 1st person to 3rd person POV in the middle of paragraphs. However I liked the drama and action better in this one. It also really needs an epilogue just like the first book. I know that there are more books but you can still have an epilogue that focuses on the couple without giving anything away in future books. I’ll be honest though, the whole Gibson, Lee and Joke thing is what’s stopping me from continuing the series. I thought it was a one time thing in book 1, I didn’t like it but I dealt with it. To see it still continuing in this book? Yeah I’m done. I’ve read mfm and mmf books and really liked them but this just seems to be thrown in to fill some kind of check sheet the author has. Alpha male, check, fiesta heroine, check, a side/neglect, check, threesome, check.... I was really, really looking forward to Mac’s book too!

Another home run!

Just finished Paddy and Jenny's story and It again left me feeling all warm and fuzzy, just like Gibson and Lee's story did. Did it remind me in parts of KA's books? Yes. But since I have read all of KA's books and loved most of them I don't see why that should be a bad thing. In fact, I have actually searched Google to try to find similar authors to get me over the dry spells in between KA's books. I am happy to say I think I've finally found one! This book, just like the first one, made me laugh and made me cry. I love the badass heroes and love their strong independent women. I especially love the fact that these couples have each other's backs and stand strong against the challenges thrown at them by life. Now I'm off to read Joke and await the release of Mia's next book in November.

A first chance at love for these two who let life get in the way of the lifelong love they'd felt for each other since they'd become of age.

Jen & Padraig had gone through many trials over the years and time was slipping by. A fellow MC pres finally put the fire into Padraig to take the steps to bring them together.

Interesting side story with the Muerta club, though they certainly weren't too smart but it all worked out in the end. Sad, the years they lost but like Jen's friend Lee said, they couldn't live the rest of their lives mourning for the past but to embrace every moment they had going forward.

Enjoying this series about mature adults that find out later in life that it's never too late to find that soulmate love.

Oh, Paddy and Jenny. Saddest story.

But that is life. Bad choices where you have to live with the consequences... until some wise friend applies the correct amount of force to the kick in the ass that throws you out of the rut you allowed your life to become.

“You can cling to the past and tell yourself that life would have been so good if everything would just have lined up exactly right. Or you can live here and now, knowing that the life you have it’s good, and enjoy what you have while you have it.”

It takes a lot of courage, honesty, and baring of souls to even consider another attempt at that shiny gold ring.

Paddy and Jenny

Another great book from Mia Malone.
This one too is about a couple in their 50's...like the first book in this series called Gibson, about Gibson and Lee. This is a small town series about a group of close friends. Jenny and Paddy have loved each other their whole lives.... they've just never told each other this fact. A great friends to lovers romance from new author Mia Malone. Buy this book, and Gibson too. You won't regret it. I've got Book 3, Joke, on pre order already. Roll on September!!

The very first sexual encounter between the the two main characters took place out in the open, at a party at the local MC compound with strangers watching them. How sweet and romantic. 🤮

The first book also had a sexual encounter that took place in front of someone else; I guess this is something that the author thinks adds some kink to her books. Personally, I prefer a possessive MMC that would NEVER want another man to see his woman in this way.

This means no more of this author's books for me.

My review of the first book in the series : Gibson

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I'm not agree with JudyB who thinks older people have to be mature and act their age : we can be way older in term of romance novels where characters usually are between 25 -35, but we can still act like 20 something year olds :-) Love this bunch of guys who gossip more than high school girls.

Love Jenny & Padraig story. I was really looking forward to this one from reading about them both in Gibson’s book. I am a tad bit disappointed though. I feel like the kidnapping scene was just throw in & rushed. But other than that I look forward to the rest of the series.
