Rate this book
The fight for humanity’s future will be won or lost where it all began: Earth.

Grace Gushiken and Nathan Chevell stand with the few allies they have found. They must save their Empire from the insect-like Ezeroc who control our homeworld.

The Ezeroc serve at the feet of one man: Kazuo Gushiken. Grace’s father has burned every world to ash in his ceaseless desire to have her. He controls the Ezeroc and AI militaries, entrenching his position on Earth.

An ex-war heavy lifter stands against the military of an enemy civilization. The Tyche makes one final run to face Kazuo in the heart of his power. Grace and Nate must cut the head from the snake, even if it costs them their lives. If they don’t, humanity will be lost forever.

Richard Parry has worked as a senior marketing manager in one of the world’s top tech companies, but it wasn't all cocaine parties. His debut novel Night’s Favor and its sequel Night’s Fall have been shortlisted for the Sir Julius Vogel Award “Best Novel” category.

His ever-growing list of novels spans urban fantasy, cyberpunk, and space opera, featuring flawed heroes, sharp dialogue, and a healthy dose of action. His Night’s Champion trilogy follows an alcoholic-turned-werewolf saving the world, while Future Forfeit explores a neon-drenched cyberpunk future where hacking the system is just the start. Meanwhile, Ezeroc Wars throws readers into the deep end of an interstellar war against a swarm species that doesn’t take no for an answer. Across over 20 novels (and counting), Richard delivers stories packed with heart, explosions, and the occasional bad decision.

Richard lives in Wellington with the love of his life, Rae. They have cats, who chase birds. The birds, who have the power of flight, don’t seem to mind.

“When you’re not sure what to do, you need to do the good thing. Not the smart thing.”
This is one heck of a ride. Richard Parry has written a fantastic Space Opera with exciting and endearing set of characters set in a universe of high technology and intrigue. It's a flashpoint for life and death, an instant where the inevitable can turn on a dime, where one's greatest fears or greatest hopes can be realized. It’s so realistically described I can’t help being totally immersed in the book! Top packed action and fast paced, I love the creative dialogue and writing. And very emotional! I can’t get enough and don’t want the series to end!!!
I am voluntarily giving a review of an advance copy I received from the author.

I read this in a day because it's impossible to put Richard's books down once started. Lots of new characters to add to the original team and they all add something new to the story. Hopefully not the last we see of this great series.

The Emperor and Empress and their band of loyal followers are out to save the universe--and this time, they aren't stopping until they've completely eliminated the enemy, even if it means dying in order to do so. It is a no-holds-barred, knockdown, drag-out fight--all the way to the end.

I've made no secret of my fondness for Grace and am glad that so much of this book centered around her and her father (this is one toxic relationship in need of a serious resolution). She's come a long way since the first book and so have all the others (I think October Kohl has evolved the most). They know each other well by this point, as only people who've shared the same "trench" can. I love this aspect of these books. It's not just the battle, it's the relationships and the secondary plotlines about their personal lives that carry these books.

In this book, Algernon the AI emerges as a distinctive character that's just a little too big for the role he's playing (a little like Harrison Ford as Hans Solo in Star Wars). Algernon can't help but own the screen when he's on it--and he has some of the most memorable lines in the book. I am hopeful that he will make an appearance in a series of his own someday.

All in all, it was a fine way to spend three days of avoiding housework and answering the phone.

Richard Parry has written a consistently positive, intelligent science fiction series in the Tyche universe.
The series real star is the ship itself, the “Tyche”, which means “The Goddess of Luck”.
When poo hits the fan, and it does often, then she’s always there and ready, thanks to her absolutely delightful, resolute and resilient crew.
Her helm, Elspeth, is the best pilot in the known universe, she can fly anything.
Hope is the best engineer in the known universe, she can fix and/or fabricate anything.
October Kohl is....a real bad ass there to lift heavy things and he’s the best in the universe at doing that.
Lifting heavy things means a lot more than just that. Along with the heavy stuff, let’s just say he likes to kill things, like bad people and bad aliens and the such. He’s got a short fuse, but he’s always the first out the door running toward the danger and he runs a kill tally that only one newer character, an ally in more ways than one, Al or actually Algernon, can come close to matching.
In “Angels”, Kohl and Al have become an effective team, but neither would admit to that. They’re constantly bickering with insults and comebacks. It’s wonderful humor in a horrible environment, but a little levity helps the story from being hopelessly grim.
Kohl is hilarious in his ignorance and plain stupidity at times, but none of the crew would exist without him. Al has some of the best lines in the story. He constantly makes me laugh so hard as to lose my breath from his dry, off the wall humor, mostly directed at Kohl.
Did I mention he’s a robot? He’s a sentient artificial intelligence inside an almost indestructible body the color of gold, thousands of years old, but that part is in a different Tyche story.
He never leaves a chance to tell everyone else, humans that is or “meat socks” as he refers to them, that he’s so much more intelligent than they are and is constantly expressing his surprise at how long “meat socks” have managed to live as long as they have and loves correcting people at every opportunity.
He’s a smart ass.....like Kohl!
I can only hope that Richard would seriously entertain the idea of writing a story for just Kohl and Algernon. I seriously think it would be a great tale. A sci-fi comedy maybe?!
As for Nate and Grace, they’re the glue that holds everything together. Emperor and Empress. Both excellent warriors proficient with multiple weapons and both have considerable mental powers. Together they rule the human empire.
Graces mental powers are basically what is at the center of Angels. That and her father.
Her father is and has always been a brutal leader of men, but never liked, much less loved even though Grace has always wanted his affection, but never to get it.
Ever since she ran away from his cruelty as a child he’s been pursuing her and in Angels they finally meet again.
I can’t say anymore or I’ll give away too many spoilers. I think I have already, but I’m pretty sure the beginning of the book will say much the same and the series to date has already said the rest.
I need to add that there are so many more supporting characters that are so very important to the story and the entire series. I hope you get to meet them all.
The reader really needs to start on book one of this series to fully appreciate it all.
Starting with Angels will probably only confuse and lead you to seek out answers you’ll only find in the earlier books.
In conclusion, and I know authors cringe at those words, but I’m not an author obviously, so in conclusion, I recommend reading “Tyche’ Angels” as well as the entire series.
It’s without a doubt the best science fiction series ever written in my opinion.
It’s full of great characters, fantastic environments, evil aliens of various types, evil humans also, awesome starships crewed by characters with Richard’s fans real names, with permission of course and have I mentioned action? So much action!
I thought Angels was the last in the series, but I’ve recently heard there’s more coming and that excites me to no end.
If you pick a sci-fi set of books to read then seriously consider making it the Tyche series. You won’t regret your decision.

Thank you so much Richard for this unforgettable series of tales.

Sincerely,
Alan McDonald

This book continues to deliver on the premise of family. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that it is slightly too "safe" for my taste; it does feel like most characters have plot armor.
That said, I love how Parry continues to weave a story of humanity and family together with humor and action. It's grand space opera, overlaid with touching moments of self-sacrifice and stupidity.

I did receive a copy for free, in exchange for an unbiased review. I'm glad I did; I recommend you read it!

I enjoyed this book. Not as much as I enjoyed mostly all the previous Tyche's books as this one contains more swearing than I am really happy with but this is a very subjective thing. Most would not mind it at all. Certainly the author did not. It's also a good book in that a chapter closes with it. Nate gets to make a real choice as to his future as well.

Another Space Opera, Stellar Read.

This is one of those's stellar read's, that will surely bring about a warren of many emotions, all from the marvellous imaginative mind of Mr Richard Parry.
If you've read any of this series, you'll understand, if not, then I suggest you start at the very beginning with "Tyche's Origin's" (comes in a box set) following up with Bk1 "Tyche's Flight" and go from there.
Each and every book in this series is so worth the cost and time.
There is so much more I could say, but really! read the blurb's and review's, acquire the book's, then hop aboard the Goddess Tyche, and join her crew members, Nate, Grace, Hope, Kohl and Elspeth.
Strap in for a heart-thumping, at time's laugh out loud, save the universe adventurous amazing ride, that will blow your mind.
Yes! Yes! OMG! It really is that good.
At first I thought this would be the last (what has amounted to an amazing piece of storytelling) adventure for the Tyche and her crew, but the word's at the end of "Tyche's Angels" (The crew of the Tyche will return) means that sometime in the future, we will once again get to ride the Black.
Hopefully the wait won't be to long.
Again Mr Richard Parry you Rock!
I'm giving an Angel their wing's.

Another Tyche action-fest

Richard Parry’s Tyche series is not likely to make the category of “literature”, but it is an addiction for me, and I have read all of Parry’s books for the same reasons. (Most of) the dialog is punchy, ironic, and funny. The “Bad Guys” are unquestionably hateful, and their vile behaviour does not go unpunished. The Good Guys (and Gals) all have their personal demons to deal with, but their moral compasses provide redemption.
Elmore Leonard advised writers to “leave the boring parts out”, and Parry does it well.
Downside: Needs a Glossary. The books romp forward like a stampede of kangaroos, but sometimes it is hard to tell one kangaroo from another, because details from a previous book are assumed to be “understood” the next time, in a future book, without any effort to provide a sentence that will put it into the narrative context it belongs. But, if you don’t “get it”, let it go and keep turning the pages, and let Mr. Parry know if you share that quibble with me.

The Ezeroc Wars just get Better

From a trilogy to origins and now this, Parry is making a play for an epic series and as things get even more personal this just draws me in even deeper. I wasnt sure how much we could stand of various fights with bugs if its not warship troopers but ******* spoiler means that it's still quite fresh but also quite well known and I got to say who would of thought a fave character be a machine. So it looks like there's life in his series yet and some enigmatic new characters who make this a book to read in one go. Parry looks like he's going to make a mark to stand out in scifi and as always i find its just he does so well with the characters that you just got to cry and laugh with them. Now all we need is an audio and I be even happier

I love this series. It has humor, action, great characters, a story that sucks you in and leaves you breathless. I finished it in one night! Parry creates believable world building and isn’t afraid to throw sorrow and pain into the mix. The story ends on just the right note and keeps me wanting more.

Loved this series!

I am saddened because I have finished this series. Hopefully, we will see this family together on another adventure. I really liked the interaction between the characters. You felt that you knew each one. Algernon and Kohl made me laugh at their interaction. Hope to see more of this crew!

Another entertaining romp on the Tyche with Nate, Grace, Hope, and October.
I’ll nominate Chad and Algenon for best supporting actor roles, and give Karkoski an honorable mention. We need more of her. Getting her back story and Al’s would be nice.
These books are serious page turners! Get comfortable and enjoy the ride.

I found this one particularly emotional, especially from around 70% onwards. Great great development of the overarching storyline, the beautifully complex and real characters and a strong plot. Didn't disappoint!

Wonderful

They have given almost everything they have, will it be enough to make the Earth their home again? Great conclusion to the story so far, but fortunately not the end of this tremendous series.
