Jonathan Kent is an author of Dark Fantasy and Horror fiction. His tales are predominantly told from a modern perspective where everyday folk are thrown into strange and fantastical situations. The stories can be dark, involving real life characters and are definitely not for the faint hearted!

He lives with his wife, two daughters and a houseful of pets on the wind swept Isle of Portland, in Dorset. He has a Business Degree from Manchester Metropolitan University and until recently had a successful career as a management consultant.

In September 2016 he gave it all up yo pursue his passion for storytelling and began a fledgling career as a novelist. His first Dark Fantasy novel 'Homecoming' was published in November 2016, followed by its darker (aren't they always!) sequel 'Meadowbank' - published in April 2017.

What an interesting story! I'm not particularly superstitious, but I do know people that take this sort of thing VERY seriously. As with most stories by Jonathan Kent, he has taken a simple premise and taken it to the very extreme. There are some very vivid images on show here especially *Spoiler alert* the between death stuff and the feeling of dread that builds and builds as the day draws to it's conclusion.

I tried to look for some hidden meaning in the numbers the main character keeps seeing everywhere, but I can't really see any. I think that may actually be the point. Are the numbers really plaguing him? Or has he imagined it all himself? Even at the end I'm still not 100% sure and I reckon that's what the writer was getting at. There are greater forces at work etc...

Another top notch story from this writer who seems to be getting better and better with every release. Thoroughly recommend.

I was looking forward to reading this short story because I used to wake up at 3:00am every night. It turned out to relate to a medical issue, but I wanted to see how it was explained in this story.

This story is about one day in the life of a man who wakes up at 1:49 am. He then keeps seeing those numbers over and over again throughout the day. It's making him a little crazy and he becomes obsessed with the numbers. What do they mean? Are they telling him something? Why does he keep seeing them?

Something happens to the man, and he decides he knows what the numbers mean because of it. I have to say, I did not follow his rationale at all. I don't know how the numbers led him to his fate. I don't see the cause and effect.

I've been thinking about the numbers for a while to try to figure out what the author was trying to say. 1,4,and 9 are the squares of the first three numbers 1,2,and 3. Ok. So? 149-123=26. Nothing. 149+123=272. Nothing. The next number in the sequence is 16. Still nothing.

The next night the man wakes up at 1:35 am. 1,3,and 5 are the first three odd numbers. Ok. Their squares are 1, 9, 25. Nothing.

Both sequences, the squares: 1,4,9,16,25,36...and the odds: 1,3,5,7,9,11... go to infinity. Is that the point? Do the numbers represent infinity What does infinity represent? Time? Is time infinite? Death? Will we be dead for an infinite period of time? I don't know.

The symbol for infinity is often used as the symbol for love. Is this story saying love is infinite? I don't think so.

I could go on doing number sequences forever (not infinitely), but I don't think it will tell me anything about this story.

Maybe the numbers mean nothing, but this man's life was so empty (and it was) that he used the numbers to fill it up--to give him something new to think about and to make him realize he needs to change.

That's what I'm going to go with.

I don't know how to rate this story. I was going to go with four stars because the book drove me nuts, just as the numbers drove the man nuts. Was that the point? When I click on four stars, it says, "I like it," but I didn't like it. It annoyed me.

Is this book telling me my life is so empty that I became obsessed with the numbers? Who the hell knows? Three stars just because it's in the middle, which makes just as much sense as this story.

Actually, I changed my mind again. I'm going with five stars (big leap) because I think the story was kind of a fable and fables try to teach us something. The man in the book learned what was important to him, and I learned I am obsessed with numbers and really don't know what's important to me.

Lesson learned.

A short story I enjoyed. Personally i have the signs of numbers 1747 in that order. Everyday i seem to look at the watch at that time (that’s 5:47 pm) or phone numbers with those numbers. I was intrigued and kinda spooked after reading this story about the meaning. Off coarse it’s just a story, i hope
