Concurrent with the first novel, but set in New York and Washington D.C., the book begins in space while the fleet approaches the Earth (the ending of the novel briefly goes into the aftermath of The Final Battle). The commander, Roger, and his subordinates, Angela and Jennifer, arrive and after the Visitors are revealed, the resistance group named White Christmas is formed to combat them. They now have to face Roger's devious plan: to surpass the human food storage by emptying one of New York's neighborhoods next to their chemical plants.
Again, there was less surprise because this group of two books is the repetition of the resistance story, this time on the east Coast. Nevertheless, it is well written, fast paced and with a great victory of those "who will not go quietly into the night"...
If you watched the series, or read the book, and wondered what was going in the rest of the world?? This book tells about what New Yorkers were up to. Very nicely written.
It's not often that I find a sequel better then it's predecessor, with East Coast Crisis I am so happy it is. The llot flows more organically then in V and the characters are much more dynamic and likable. Still 4 stars because I can't wrap my mind around the alien's real reason for coming to Earth and how ludicrous it is.
How I loved the Visitors! I remember as a young girl the trepidation with which I kept waiting every week for a new episode on TV. And what a disappointment when no news season followed the final cliff-hanger. Years later, as an adult, I happened to watch the whole series again and I loved it almost more than the first time. So you can imagine my delight in spotting this booklet in a flea market. It is a tie-in that tells the invasion from the mini-series but from the point of view of the East Coast, especially New York. Some classic characters are mentioned, even we can see Mike Donovan in a scene, but the main characters are others. It was great to rediscover the Visitors through the eyes of unsuspecting new characters. The plot is very well thought out. In the preface the author of the original series, A.C. Crispin, explains that she had outlined the story, and then it was developed by Howard Weinstein. There isn’t clearly the wonder of discovery, as the reader of this book already knows the story, but the novel is equally enjoyable. Too bad the story continues in other books that unfortunately I don’t have. It remains a real treat for fans of science fiction. If you happen to get it in your hands, read it.
I rarely re-read books as there are so many new books I want to read. However, I'm making a huge exception for the entire "V" series of books which I read when I was 10, 11, and 12 years old. I would say it's been about 35+ years since I've read any of the books with the biggest reason why is I no longer had any of them in my personal library. A lucky trip to a used bookstore is where I stumbled across almost all of the books in nearly mint condition, so I immediately scooped them up and started a year-long journey of reading a series of books I loved so much as a kid.
I truly don't remember much about any of the books, so this felt like a first time read for me. This book is set in New York City and introduces the reader to a lot of new characters. Much like the first book "V," we get the introduction of the Visitors arriving in their mammoth ships and their first meeting atop the United Nations Building but from a different perspective and a bit more in-depth. I really liked that. Soon, the many characters start realizing there are big problems with the Visitors as people disappear, die, or weird things occur in their neighborhoods. Also like "V," this book ends with the discharging of the poisonous red dust, but I won't describe how that happens here. That is something to be experienced by each reader individually. Just know it's exciting and suspenseful.
This was such a nostalgic read, and I can't wait to continue this journey through this series of books.
This book was so wonderful to read. It reads from a different perspective since the book is based on the east side of the country dealing with the invasion of the visitors. This has all new characters and all new visitors and all new situations that we never saw in the mini series or TV series. There was even a cameo by some of the resistance fighters from the original mini series. I'm only sorry it took me this long to read it.
This book has been on my bookshelf since the early 2000s and I don't know why it took me so long to read it. I finally have all of the other books and I'm gonna start reading those now. I'm glad I started reading this.
It had a lot of potential because it parallels the main story but on the east coast of the USA. It includes a story of the President ...as a Canadian I never could figure out why the main story was situated in Los Angeles and not Washington DC. However, it didn’t have have the same flare as the original story. I found the action scenes difficult to follow.
Amazing sequel and expansion on this already good universe! Would have like a bit more delving into some of the off screen stuff but it was still well written!
Gave "East Coast Crisis" 4 stars because it's "V" and wasn't horrible, or a crime against the original...its just forgettable. Although, it's a must have for any "V" completist 🙂
As you can see from the next entry, it was a V week - I even got a reference book on eBay this week I've been looking for since 1985. The books are interesting - the first one is a novelization of both miniseries, while the second has the same timeline, but an entirely new cast as it's set in New York City. The novelization seems like the author got the second miniseries as a script only and had to rush, as it's a shorter section than the adaption of the first and is missing pieces. Still, it adds some nice characterizations. East Coast Crisis also feels somewhat rushed, and it suffers from not being familiar with the cast, but the plot is good, especially the fight at the end.
Great read! The story isn’t as strong as the original “V”, lacks some of the power of the Nazi Germany themes of the original. But the characterization is better than the original. Original characters allow for more interesting exploration. Recommended!
Read this and bought other smaller spin off books, but I did not like them at all and probably never finished reading them, so I won't look for them on here
